I booked a hotel for work. $105 per night at the Holiday Inn, 3 nights. I got my hotel bill after my stay, $335. It wasn't until I saw my credit card charge of $485 when I realized something was up. Apparently this was due to GetARoom's "tax recovery charges and service fees." They offered me $35 off of this bill as "a sign of goodwill." Now I have to explain to the boss why I paid nearly $500 for a 3 night stay at a cheap hotel. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

We booked a room at the Scandic Front Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark for three nights, August 22 - 25th, 2019. Having never been to Copenhagen nor having any familiarity with the hotel, we opted for the Free Cancellation rate, which was more expensive than the standard rate. We spent one night in the hotel. We were not happy with the room as there was a loud party going on across the street. The next morning the front desk agent accepted our check out no problem and said the booking agent would handle the refund. While it took longer than I hoped, GetARoom did refund our money for the unused nights. In the end I was satisfied with the outcome. I thank the organization for their attention to our situation.

I had a similar experience as others. I called an Australian booking number on the Novotel homepage, not aware I was dealing with Getaroom.com instead of Novotel callcenter. I was after a booking for a Novotel hotel in Bali, which we discussed on the phone including all details and at the end was quoted for a Novotel in Mexico! I had this corrected and quoted with a price of AUD 114.95 per room which makes AUD229.90 for two rooms and ended up paying a whopping AUD357.30! When I called back within the hour it was said I would have to pay a penalty charge for cancellation, or they could give me a 10% discount. I did not agree. No manager was available for further discussion and was left with a service request number and the reassurance I would get an answer after 5-7 business days. Misleading, bad service. Only after escalating to Twitter, Trustpilot and this review site a full refund and cancellation was provided within the same day.

I booked a hotel room in Punta Cana in February 2020. Upon booking I was sure, that I was dealing with a hotel website. It turned out though, that it was actually a Getaroom booking website. Upon booking I was charged with additional service and tax costs, which were not mentioned in the system upon booking. I then decided to cancel my reservation. Initially Getaroom Customer Care and Escalations service refused to cancel the booking. But recently I have got the full refund of my reservation for which I am thankful to Getaroom.

I did not know that I was making a reservation with a 3rd party agency- They did not identify themselves as "getaroom" staff- My charge for a two night stay in a hotel was inflated by about $100. I feel like a fool. I have notified my credit card company and filed a fraud claim.

I was very disappointed when we put in the search 2 adults 2 nights in York which came up with a hotel advertised at £138! Even if that was per night that would only have been £276! I was charged £418:81 I rang up to be told there was nothing they could do as it was tax's I was not aware of this and feel cheated, that's £142:81 tax that's even more than it was advertised at! What adds salt to the wounds is that breakfast wasn't even included in this price, I will never use this company again

I reserved a room at an AmericInn. I thought I was contacting the AmericInn company, but some how got switched to GetARoom. They charged me $85 more than the regular rate at the AmericInn I stayed at. They would not give any refund after I discovered what had happened. When I talked to customer service there was so much background noise that I could hardly hear the representative. A very unpleasant experience. I suggest NEVER USING THIS COMPANY. And be careful that you don't accidently get switched to them when trying to make a reservation.

I booked a room for the wrong night for my sons wedding. I immediately called to change the reservation to the next night and was told that I could not. I had no idea I was on a third party site when I booked, That was my first mistake, my second was being distracted at work and not paying attention like I should have, I truly do not understand how I cannot change this to the next night. I cannot believe with how many times I have booked events online that I just got taken the way I did. The service charge is an incredible ripoff and the customer service is pathetic. I booked a hotel in Montreux, Switzerland, thinking I was booking directly with the hotel, only to discover that I was booking with a 3rd party booking company. A few days later, I wanted to book one more day onto the existing reservation and "Getaroom" said I had to book a separate reservation and couldn't add onto the existing reservation, which was a refundable cancellation reservation. I booked the separate reservation and then, due to circumstances beyond my control, had to cancel in less than 24 hours of making the reservation. I was told I would not get a refund.
Kristen from Getaroom called me and apologized profusely, saying that she did her best with the hotel manager to get us a refund, but the hotel would not budge one bit, even though the reservation is 3 months away! So, just to help us out, Kristen offered us a 50% refund of our $307 and we gladly agreed to it.
Kristen said it would take 3-5 days for the refund to show up on my credit card, so I will be looking for it.

I wanted a reservation for 2 nights. I thought I was very clear about that. When the e-mail came about the reservation, just one night was listed. I called back to reserve the other night but it sounded like we'd have 2 separate rooms. My husband called back and I'm hoping that we're clear now.

Booked a hotel room at a Hampton Inn. I thought I was booking on the Hampton Inn site but this site directed to the GetARoom site unknow to me. When I arrive at the hotel about one hour later the GetARoom company had not paid the hotel. The front desk person at Hampton Inn had to work 45 minutes to get the payment. The call goes overseas and then those people had to contact a third party to issue the payment. It cost more than the hotel would have charged. Be careful. Make sure you are on the Hampton/Hilton site before you book.

Yesterday I booked two rooms in Tifton GA at a Quality Inn. I was quoted on the phone 58.00 per room, and even asked if that is for sure the price, except for taxes of course, a the person confirmed that is was. These folks acted as if they were the property and the phone number was associated with the property, not the GetARoom. This was a non refundable rate they advertised. After giving them all our info, they said we would get a confirmation email shortly. After the call, I opened my email and saw I was charged 100.50 per room. I immediately called my credit card folks who attempted to get them on a three party call, but they would not pick up. So calling them back, I finally got someone, who said the difference was GetAroom's service charge and offered an 11.00 refund to help with our unhappy condition. I said forget it, I will dispute the charge with my credit card folks. When we arrived at the hotel, the clerk told us that they were paid 49.00 plus tax of 13.00, total 62.00, per room by GetARoom. That meant that 38.00 per room was GetARoom's service charge, 61% service charge. Does that seem like a bit much, dah. They acted falsely as if they were the hotel, they lied about the price. There should be a law against this level of deception. Beware! Five minutes after posting this a representative from GetARoom called me to resolve the issue. Though she could not explain just why it happened, as "third" parties are involved, she offered a 60.00 refund which she says I will see on my credit card in 3 to 5 business days. I accepted that and thanked her. So we will see if that happens.

I made reservations on this website accidentally. I actually thought I was on the Raddison website making a reservation for their Minneapolis location. I was surprised to see that the taxes and fees were ridiculously high but I assumed it was because of the proximity to the airport and mall. When I checked out we received an email copy of our bill from the hotel, I was very surprised to see that it was almost $200 less than the expected price. I assumed that would be the actual charge, but was again shocked to find out that our credit card was charged the higher price. Upon research we realized that it was the GETAROOM site who was making a fortune on our reservation! The hotel was beautiful and their staff very helpful in discovering the problem. My mistake, admittedly but seriously... GETAROOM did absolutely NOTHING to warrant charging that amount of money over the actual cost of the room. I will definitely NOT make this mistake again. Go directly to the hotel website, don't rely on the highway robbery policies of this website!

I was quoted one price and when I received my confirmation it listed and charged my credit card a higher price. When I called and complained I was told they would refund the tax not the prices that were quoted. Also I could not get a credit on my card till I checked out in August. You had no problem charging my card why could you not credit it right away

The agent seemed a little confused although tried to be helpful and when the reservation was complete he said I would get a confirmation within 15 minutes, I still have not received it.

I called the number for a Wyndam Hotel, on a Wyndam website, and the automated answering service even said it was a Wydham hotel. It took me 46 minutes on the phone to book the room with a woman that could not understand my name or email. I had to go through all of my information letter by letter. She booked my room, and then charged me a $48.03 tax recovery charge? I ended up paying $191.13 for one night in a room that should have been $143.00. I thought I was speaking to the hotel, and not a third party reservation company. Not once did anyone, or any recording say that they were a third party, or getaroom.com. I was deceived into thinking that I was speaking with a Wyndham member. I have spent thousands on hotel rooms through Wyndham. I called to see why I was overcharged, and the lady at getaroom was not helpful at all. She finally just put me on hold and never picked up the phone again. I had to hang up. getaroom.com is a very poor, unethical, and dishonest business. They need to tell people that they are speaking to a third party reservation company. They also need to clearly state, in English, that they are adding a $48.03 charge onto an already inflated hotel room price. getaroom.com offered me a $14.00 discount for all of my trouble. I wanted to cancel my reservation. I could have booked 2 rooms for the price that they charged me for 1. I am very disappointed that Wyndham allows this to happen. I am definitely changing my personal, and business hotel choices to a company that will help its loyal guests.

Wrong room. I specifically called to get a room with two queens and a pull out sofa and when I arrived they only had a king with a pull out sofa. The gentleman at the front desk was kind enough to give me a free rollaway bed for our stay.
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
