  • Public Broadcasting Service

PBS offers unique documentaries and detailed reports of current affairs. I love NOVA, Nature and occasionally Frontline. However, what I can't comprehend is that lately my local PBS station airs reruns of boring British sitcoms that even the Brits don't watch. Why not Mr Bean or Baldy Man or the good ol' Benny Hill Show? No, PBS reruns garbage like "The Last of the Summer Wine" and similar. I would have given 5 starts but those outdated, boring, never been fun sitcoms just made me take one star off.

If you're a newbie in food fermenting, I highly recommend Cultures for Health. It provides very active cultures and ship them fast to you. I bought vegan yogurt culture, tempeh starter and Miso. The yogurt and tempeh starter never failed me, I can't tell about the Miso starter as I haven't had the time testing it so far. As a newbie, I was a bit unsure about the yogurt getting ready so I contacted customer service through chat (no phone support), good thing is I never had to wait for a live person. Customer service simply told me to wait 2 - 4 hours more. He was right. The yogurt was great after almost 16 hours. I had also other questions and got them answered fast. The chat support is really very responsive and professional. Also all products I received come with very easy to follow and detailed instructions so it's almost foolproof ;)

Tip for consumers:
Use live chat for quick support

  • Legerweb.com

4/19/16

Another reviewer described Legerweb as a fraud. That's not true. I am with Legerweb for almost over 3 years and received always my check. The only thing I complain is the low amount of surveys you receive. It takes a loing time to get the minimum balance accumulated necessary to request a check which is $20 as of this writing.

  • Home Depot

3/22/16

I love HomeDepot for its wide selection of hardware, tools and anything else needed for home improvement. My last order arrived timely and in good condition. The only thing I don't like is that not all products qualify for free shipping even though the order is over $49.

  • VIZIO

3/22/16

I bought a 24" smart HDTV and must say it got lots of features at the low price I purchased that TV. The shipment arrived promptly. One issue I had is the remote control. It simply stopped working after 2 months. I called customer service who told me to switch batteries twice and read aloud the expiration date of the batteries before inserting them and press some buttons. After it was clear the remote control isn't working I got promised a replacement ASAP. It took almost 2 weeks for the remote to arrive. Besides, no other issues.

BTW: I earned a little reward, a free foldable bottle withe VIZIO logo.

Tip for consumers:
Sign up for Vizio's Reward Program, FANDEMONIUM, so you earn rewards for purchases.

  • Walmart

3/22/16

I made a couple of orders and had only 2 issues that were quickly resolved with a call to customer service. The prices are mostly OK but sometimes they are higher. So, I decided once to call Walmart and make use of the Price Match guarantee. I did get the price difference but not after staying over THREE HOURS on the phone.

  • Target

3/22/16

I buy around twice a month at Target. The prices are a bit higher but the sales are often better than in similar stores. Customer service is good. However, the selection of produce is bad, overpriced and the quality is not very satisfying.

  • ScreenwiseTrends

4/19/16

Screenwisetrends is OK as long as you connect the maximum number of devices to your account and get so $3 a week simply by handing over your browsing history and habits. Of course, if you're privacy minded, then that's not for you.

Besides privacy issues, one thing that's annoying is the VERY SLOW payment process. It takes a LONG time to accumulate enough to request a reward. Even worse, it takes up to 6 weeks to receive the reward. Worst is that sometimes Screenwisetrends does not send the reward even after 6 weeks. So, you have to write an email telling what's about the reward you ordered. Until nowk I get my reward then but it's an extra hassle. I think people deserve better than that: You waited enough to get the minimum balance accumulated, yet waiting up to 6 weeks?! Kind of lame service IMHO.

Tip for consumers:
Always check your reward status and complain by email if it's over 6 weeks in order to get your reward

  • Kmart

1/4/16

This retailer is good if you need to stock up on something in a hurry and it happens to be nearby. The prices are average and customer service is quite decent. Yet, if I have time, I buy from other retailers that offer better products and more generous extended warranties.

  • Walgreens

1/4/16

If you don't have insurance I would not buy any Rx from Walgreens. Look for a local pharmacy or online one instead. Also, it doesn't offer free antibiotics like Publix.

  • Gyft

4/3/18

Careful, if you did business with Gyft in the past and had a good experience and haven't used it for a long time, I want to warn you that the Gyft of today is totally different from the one a 2 or 3 years ago. It's slow, unreliable and it kept my money on hold for almost a week even though I did quite a few orders with that now lousy company. Worse is that one payment got even declined and customer service is harder to reach than a treasure somewhere hidden deep in the jungle. No thanks, with so many companies selling gift cards, I do not recommend Gyft any more. It's way faster to buy a good old plastic gift card.

Tip for consumers:
Do you need a gift card fast, look somewhere else or go to a store. It looks like Gyft is using now dial-up modems.

I stumbled upon a new cashback site recently and thought to try it out as it offered pretty hight cashback rate for one of my favorite stores. Unfortunately, my order did not register. Good thing is iConsumer lets you report missing transactions. The bad thing is that my order is still listed under missing and peding transactions since March 9th and I guess I won't see any cashback soon.

  • Surveytime

8/5/19

Update 2019-09-05: After months I got an email with an Amazon gift card code that's already been used. That shows they not only scam survey taker, they have to joke about it too.

Here's my experience with Surveytime: I used to be a GiftHulk user but this site closed and instead Surveytime comes along sending me a couple of emails and telling me that there's no minimal payout. Yet, before I could take my first survey, I had to answer many profile questions. After 30 minutes, I took my first survey and it took me about another 30 minutes.so, it took me roughly an hour. At least, so I thought, I don't have to wait for the payout. Indeed, I got offered a meager $1 for Amazon, Target or Walmart. Oh wait, it now asks me for my mobile number in order to cash out that lousy dollar. I entered my number, received a text with a PIN which I promptly entered. "Finally," I thought I would get my "way below minimum wage" payment. Nope, it looks that Survey(Scam)Time is so stingy, those scammers won't even pay out one buck. That's the email I got from this dirt cheap thugs: "Account didn't pass security checks and was flagged." What security checks?! I just signed up, logged in with my Google account, entered my mobile number, my personal information. The kicker is I still get survey invitations from these penny stealers.

I have been with lots of survey companies and many don't pay much but at least I get some items to test and keep. That's the first time I experience such BS.

My tip: Filter their emails to your Junk folder. That's what SurveyTime is.

Tip for consumers:
Wastes your time, emails from them belong to the Junk folder! Update: they may generously send you an already redeemed gift card code, those low-life thugs

  • Circle

5/4/18

A few weeks ago, I learned about Circle.com and its app. It offers free payments among friends and even free overseas payments. There is also a $5 bonus for signing up through a referral. So, I signed up but initially didn't use it much except for a small sum I transferred to a friend. Little did I know that a little money would alarm Circle. It began to ask me for my ID and a selfie. I provided that but then got a message that after a "careful" review my account got closed. And indeed, when I logged into my account, I could only see my profile pic, a message that my account is closed and worse, I didn't know what happened to my payment. I asked my friend if she got it. She didn't. I checked with my bank and see it's no more pending. So, Circle closed my account and kept my money. Fortunately, I got my money back but not after a week long struggle. Really, that company is a Circle of scammers you better stay away from.

PS: My friend's account got closed too but she says after

Tip for consumers:
Don't even try it for the $5 bonus as you will lose a lot of time to recoup your funds. I recommend Zelle as an alternative.

  • PayPal

10/31/17

It's unbelievable how PayPal always finds a reason to limit my account for security reasons even though my account is verified. I got 2 bank accounts linked, one debit and credit card and also gave this joke of a "company" my SSN. Nonetheless, PayPal limited my account due to a sudden and "suspicious" increase of sales volume - $230 instead of the average of around $100 a month. Of course, there were much more issues I had with PayPal. Yet, what brought me to close my account for good is a buyer who after almost 6 months filed a claim about missing an order and the thugs of PayPal gave her right.

I switched to alternative payment methods like Cash.me, Thanks to PayPal I am accepting now even Bitcoins.

In retrospect, I regret having given these PayPal crooks all my personal info, who knows what they're doing with it...

Tip for consumers:
Use it as little as possible and never have lots of money in your PP account as they can freeze your account whenever they like.

Very inflexible, the lineup of channels is OK but overpriced taking in consideration the buffering. It says free trial but somehow got charged anyways. Sling TV is as bad or worse as cable. No thanks.

Huffington Post is like Breitbart: Opinion pieces disguised as news. The only obvious difference is at the very left or whatever side (a side I don't want to be for sure).

Quality
  • Breitbart

4/3/17

My impression is that's a click bait site with opinion pieces disguised as news. Even as a conservative, I don't get it why to visit this site more than once. It's worse than NaturalNews and Alex Jones because their articles are at least more entertaining (yet still kind of fake LOL).

My final note: I was bored, got curious, stopped by and got bored again.
