ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

If you want to send them high end clothes and get pennies for them- this is the company to send to, They take forever to send you payout, and they do not respond to e-mails. I sent over $3,000 in excellent condition or new with tag clothes and I am still waiting for my $160.00 payout.
They are running exquisite scam and nobody can hold them accountable for it or prove anything.

As a seller this website is a total rip off. They over charge people for your clothes and you make practically nothing in return. My max payout on a shirt sold for $13.99 would be $0.70 if that gives you an idea. I sent a bag and when you do they offer to send back your clothes or donate them but with the items they didn't accept they "recycled" them without my consent when I intended to have them sent back. I'm stressed because these were nice items (some still with price tags) basically robbed from me. I highly recommend selling on sites like Poshmark or even a yard sell is better than ThredUP.
I have been a customer from ThredUp for a few years so I know exactly what they send, so I prepared my box about 30 items in perfect condition, things that were not my style or to formal for a SAHM, but since I know my items were all great didn't request the return. So the result is that they only accepted 9 items, rejected things NWT, and a 100% silk Massimo Dutti blouse and other things that I have seen in their site countless times. If I had chose to pay for the return fee, the final cash (if my items ever get sold) will be less than 2 dollars. I wish I had donated instead and made a pillowcase with the silk blouse. Don't sell to them, also it took 4 months for them to process my clean out box.
I sent 15 lbs of clothing - some items barely worn, some brand new. They were selling my items for a fair amount and offering me .50. Because I asked for my unwanted items to be returned (10.99) shipping to return to me - I made only $2.53. I can get a higher write off on my taxes! I got fed up and asked them to send me back my remaining items that hadn't sold - which cost me additional shipping. So, not only did I not make any money - this entire thing has cost me money. This is a total scam and rip off.
I thought the idea of an online clothing consignment company was a brilliant idea, and still do-- this, however, is not a good company to send high-quality consignment clothing to. My first box contained a beautiful, embroidered Citizens of Humanity denim jacket; an item I paid $300 for. It was barely worn, as it only just barely fit and I quickly outgrew it. I hesitated to sell it, but needed the closet space. I know it was in perfect shape when I sent it off. The box was processed, but my jacket was not posted! I couldn't believe there was any way that they would reject what is easily the most expensive thing I will ever own! Unfortunately, because I was so sure they were going to post my jacket for consignment, I opted out of the return assurance; a move I now deeply regret. As I see it, one of two things happened: either they really, truly believed the jacket was un-salvageable, or someone at their processing facility took the jacket for themselves and didn't give me any credit. (I don't know how likely the latter scenario is, but I have a hard time believing they turned a designer jacket into pillow scrap too!) Either way, I find it incredibly frustrating as now the jacket is gone, and there's zilch I can do about it.
As it is, I still use their services to buy and sell things on occasion, if I don't hope to get much for my items. I still find the company helpful, as I am a far drive from my nearest thrift store. For this reason, I gave them two stars instead of one.
BUT, if you have top-quality items you know you can still get a good payout for, I strongly advise that you sell them ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE! Or, if you do send your stuff to them, use the return assurance!
I finally da receive my order and I was told he "initiated return" status is when ThredUp activates the return label when they get ready to ship it to you. That being said the Goode Box is supposed to be when one of their stylists puts together a box of items that possibly you would never have picked out for yourself and to surprise you with items. Well I was surprised for 75% of the items I received were items that I had marked as "favorites" I paid $10 to have ThredUp send me items that I already liked and had considered buying but hadn't yet. Basically I paid $10 to style myself. I wouldn't waste your money on the subscription boxes.
It's important to note that ThredUP no longer provides an upfront payout. It used to be where they would give you the option for them purchase items you sent in upfront and therefore provide you with a payout. Not a great deal of money but at least something. Now it is TOTAL consignment and you receive a payout ONLY if your item sells. If it doesn't sell then your items are recycled and you are left with nothing. You currently receive on average 5-9% of what the item finally sells at and that is less if they offer a 20% off sale. For example if an item does sell for $11.99 you receive approximately $1.08. Problem is that there are so many items for sale on the site you may only have one of 20 items sell. It would be better to try to sell on FB Garage Sale or Poshmark.
I tried to call customer service and there is not a phone number to call. So, I used the email support option and got an auto reply that said they would get back to me In 1 WEEK! As a result, my 3 packages were delivered to the wrong address and there was nothing I could do about it. I even called Fedex and they told me to get in touch with the shipper (which I should have been able to). I have no idea if I'll ever even see these items.
I will never order from Thredup again,
On June 29th I requested a Cash Out. It took a week later that on July 7th I received an email that the card had been sent. On July 25th I emailed Thred Up that I had yet to receive my card. On August 1st, I received an email from Thred Up that I needed to contact the Discover Card Company myself. I made that call and they could not even find record of it. Discover Comany said I would be contacted in 24 hours. As of August 12th I have not heard from Thred Up or the Discover Card Company. I would suggest to use another company if you are using the consignment feature. Their Customer Service Department is of no help with their automatic emails and no follow up.
Costumer service is horrible. Still waiting for replies to emails regarding my clean out bags and the fact I cant log in to my account.
Missing = 1 cleanout bag it's Been over 2 months.
2 dresses I ordered never arrived
The "returns page" on website conveniently freezes up everytime I attempt to process a return for a refund.
Been over 2 months I have had issues and zero follow through on customer service. So if you want to waste your time and hard earned money please do visit this website. Greedy GREEDY people. I used to spend at least $500 plus each paycheck supporting this company and they repay me by stealing my clothes and never following through when I did reach a customer service rep on the "chat app" so dissatisfied and disappointed. Will invest elsewhere where the company cares about consumers and clients.
I originally was excited to start doing business with them. I have sent in only 3 bags, however, the amount of clothing/shoes/accessories that were contained in them, were 20 - 30 pieces. My last two requests for a clean out bag have gone unanswered. I 'cashed out' the first bag and received $21.00. Received a gift card in 2 weeks. I 'cashed out' a second bag, and have not received my payout yet. (over $50, and its been over 3 weeks). I decided to buy one item to see how the service was on that end of a transaction. Just as disappointing. I have received several emails saying that my item was on the way. It has not arrived yet. (2 weeks). I'd rather donate my items locally, get a receipt for tax purposes, or donate them to a local church where they can resell them and use the money. At this point I don't care about making any money. I'm so sorry I tried this once, let alone twice. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! YOUR CLOTHES EVEN DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS.
Thred up is a great way to let an online company steal your clothing. They claim to pay you for your clothes and then they pay you 50 cents for brand new pants that have never been worn had I known they would not pay me I would have donate my pants to people in need. Thred up is run by greedy theifs don't support their business.
I needed to write an update on my last review. The company has since been in contact and has made resolution to correct my issue.
I have been contact via email the support center for a week, receiving only a canned email reply that they will review my complaint and contact me. I placed an order which was to arrive in four shipments. I still have not received the last shipment, yet have been charged for the entirety of my order. I strongly discourage anyone from using this disreputable company in the future as there is no way to rectify a situation with them. I would say the entire company is completely inept at customer service and obviously does not care about repeat business.
This company is a complete rip off. They will sell your brand new, brand name items and give you (literally!) 44 cents. I would rather donate it for free than know these criminals are selling it and making a profit. Absolutely unreal company. Don't send A THING here. Better going to a local reseller or donating it for free, than being offended with their 50cent per item.
I recently send in 32 items. All were name brand, some with tags. They accepted 12 of my items and offered me $3. I had 3 of the same shirt in different colors, they took one color but not the other. Please don't send them your clothes.
I completely regret using Thredup and would never recommend it to anyone. I sent in 5 big boxes of nice designer clothes including leather skirts, blue jean coats and many items with the tag still on them. When they finished processing my boxes they offered me less than 10.99 per box and then they deducted the 10.99 per box for return assurance so I made 0.00. They got all those clothes for free. I have emailed them 3 times and still haven't heard back from anyone. I am so disappointed.
Placed an order on July 4th and paid expedited shipping. The order was divided into 4 packages for shipping. One of the packages never arrived although I was charged for it. After MANY unsuccessful attempts to contact by email, facebook messenger and the nonfunctioning "chat" feature, this is where I am today, Called FED EX myself, the missing package is in Memphis, empty... Can't reach anyone so I guess I'll return entire order and then contact my credit card company to eliminate the charge. I've never been so disappointed in a company!
I sent them a Tommy Hilfiger blazer to sell that I never wore, and it was dry-cleaned. I noticed they didn't list it. I sent them an email asking why, and they told me it had an odor, and was dingy, so they couldn't accept it! I'm sure they sold it somewhere else. I've bought clothes from them that weren't in the best condition, and this blazer was fine. Never again!
Zero Stars. They changed their payout and its BS. They take nearly all of the payout. Like WTF why would I send several huge bags of clothes to then have only 20% accepted. Then I get like. 55 cents for selling an item for $11. Thats 5% people. Criminal! They should be shut down. Don't send your clothes to them!
First time to thredup... I should have had never started! They put so much money to "sponsor" a lot of YouTubers I guess and they all made thredup sounds so great.
So I have placed two orders, one around late June and one early July... You know what?! I have never ever received them yet! I logged into my account and both orders are still processing more than a week after I placed my order and I emailed to the support team and asked for updates, they said the first one has been shipped without sending me any notification. So I check with the tracking number they provided and it shows that it's delivered... However I have not yet received it. I went to them again asked for a proof of delivery cuz only sender can request that from FedEx. I have been waiting for days but thredup still hasn't replied.
Another order is still processing and I email them again and again to ask for the tracking... They never replied...
I spent nearly $200 for 2 orders and I have still gotten nth! What the hell they are doing... I'll never use thredup again!
I wish I have had read some of the comments here earlier than I don't have to go through pain now.
So watch out sis!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
