Note: Everything I've written is from the perspective of someone seeking a housemate to take a room in my unit, I have no idea how good or bad it is as a tenant.
I can't say that there's too much that EasyRoommate does horrendously bad but the lack of absolute basic features make it come up short when comparing to it to pretty much any of its competitors. My first issue with the site is that the search function is quite honestly garbage, the most apparent problem that stood out to me is that you can't set a price range, meaning that you can (and will) get people that have their budget set below the price that you've set, clogging the results with profiles that likely won't have any interest in your listing at all.
Another problem with searching is that the lack of requirement for people to write their own descriptions makes the site look like it's filled with fake accounts, even if that's not the case it gives a pretty poor first impression and makes identifying potential tenants so much more difficult than on places that ask users to write their own. While it's ultimately up to the users to sell themselves I'd much rather a half-assed, 5 word description of someone than a wall of automated text that makes me feel like I'm reading a list of spam.
Ultimately though, the biggest issue with the site is the way that it handles free and premium users and the features that are restricted to those who decide to spend money. Let me be clear here, if you aren't willing to spend money then the site is near-useless to you, if you don't have premium membership you can't contact people and they can't contact you (beyond "sending interest", which just sends you a notification) unless they themselves have a premium membership. The very idea of restricting a fundamental aspect of a housemate-seeking service to those who pay is ridiculous, especially in a market that relies on having as many people using your service as possible and there are so many other options that have much more generous terms for their free users (i. E. they're actually usable). Honestly, this one thing completely kills the site for me, I wouldn't recommend anyone to use it as the main place to do their search for a tenant and I especially wouldn't say you should spend money on it, there's nothing particularly noteworthy about the site and you'll have much better luck in places that have a decent user experience without having to spend money.
The company responded to my review below incorrectly. They claim they are taking action but they still continue to list a landlord who regularly makes up lies, threatens, and robs tenants. We now know 10 people she has done this to.
We sent their contact info to Easy Roommate and they refuse to contact them or believe multiple stories.
In their response below they claim to be interested in contacting other tenants, but they are not. They are insinuating we are all lying and for some reason want to list a landlord who forces tenants out for no reason, scares them and takes their money
The police helped us to get half our money back but not all. We spent hours trying to get a police report but to officially get it, we would have to go to court for multiple days and then wait 3-4 weeks for the report
This site continues to list houses which are run by criminals. They know it and they continue to list.
Air bnb, Craiglist, Faceboon Groups, and local housing agencies all banned this landlord BUT EASY ROOMMATE has all the evidence and does nothing
Please be aware that if anything bad happens to you through houses they list, they wont help or support unless you have official police reports, which in many countries can be hard to obtain.
I am indebted to the people who have bothered to report EASYROOMATES.COM for the abject scam that it is. I thank them for NOT being indebted to this thieving hustle of a website. The way I came to find out about these reprobates is this: I was looking to find a room to rent in the St Louis area and I started on Craigslist. I saw an ad that looked promising. I decided to contact supposed landlord/homeowner. Ad was for room with usual amenities and plausible rent. The catch was that it was offering a "private entrance" which ostensibly made it an apartment, but for shared/roomate prices. This was the hook. Everything else was average, showing that they know not to set the bait for Too Good To Be True. I immediately got a response stating that the room was still available, all I would need to do, was sign up for EASYROOMATES.COM. Because I'm hip to the way Craigslist scammers work, mostly attempting to drive website traffic, I knew it was probably B. S, but because I took the time to search about the legitimacy of this site only to find innumerable complaints, that were from people who have lost a great deal more than i have (I've just wasted my time, not my money or identity), I have saved myself from being hustled by these con-artists. Dear *******@easyroomates.com or should I just say VICTORIA (seriously, you thieves can't at least invest in additional names? She's the only member of your support staff? Seriously, every response from ER.com is from a VICTORIA) please don't bother to profusely apologize about the unfortunate misunderstanding, you are wasting your breath. Or maybe I should encourage you to respond, so you waste time, money and show the rest of us to what lengths you'll go to continue this rip-off?
I am so sorry to hear about your experience and that you are dissatisfied with EasyRoommate!
Whilst I do appreciate you taking the time in providing your feedback I would like to take advantage of this situation to clarify better for you our website and who we really are as there seems to be a complete misunderstanding. EasyRoommate is not a scam but on the contrary, a genuine classified site that has been operating in the flat-sharing business for over 16 years and presents in more than 26 countries around the world, making us the biggest house sharing community in the world.
As far as the experience you had on Craigslist, I'd like to clarify that we do not do such practices at all as we find it completely unacceptable and it is definitely not someone from Easyroommate who tried to redirect you to advertising on our website. I can assure you that we do not need to create fake profiles to persuade users from other platforms to use us as we have been running a legit business successfully for years. We do not take part in these practices at all and it goes against our policies.
Unfortunately, these are malicious users tricking innocent users and trying to scam them through numerous platforms, but this is a complete fraud which unfortunately impacts negatively on Easyroommate. You were in reality contacted by this scammer on another website not by us and please note that the only people representing our firm are us - the customer services team- and our email is victoria@easyroommate.com.
This leads me to the next point, Victoria is only the mailbox name, however, we did have a former colleague by the name of Victoria who used to take care of our English mailboxes, and the company granted her the honor to name the mailbox as Victoria. This is just like we have Karine for the French mailbox, Antonio for Spanish inbox, Frank in the Uk etc. However, these now remain only email addresses names and we have other Customer Services Agents working for EasyRoommate respectively.
Finally, I'd like to highlight that similar to all businesses out there, we will not appeal to everyone. Scrolling through our reviews you will see people who are very happy with their experience with us and you will also surely see people who are not happy because they were not successful in finding what they are looking for.
Going forward and since you are looking for a room in St Louis, please note that we currently have 25 rooms available in this area and you can have a look at these by accessing the link below:
https://www.easyroommate.com/missouri/st-louis-roommate
In order to help you with this hardship and actually help you find what you are looking for we would be glad to offer you a Commercial Gesture such as a Free Premium Membership on our website and invite you to advertise with us so that you can see for yourself that we are a legit website and we are here to help people find their perfect room/roommate.
I hope this helps to clarify better our business to you and you can find our contact details on our website from here:
https://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/article/283-the-customer-service-team
Apologies once again for any inconvenience caused and I do wish you the best of luck in the future.
Filed my listing on here. Could not contact anyone without paying their 'Premium' fee. Did that. Contacted ALL 2 people... neither replied... 2, in a city with 110,000 residents. My mistake... went to Trulia/Zillow... free and good, even CL is better.
I am so sorry to hear that you have been dissatisfied with our services Peter, and whilst I do appreciate your feedback I would like to take this opportunity to explain better to you how our website functions to address your concern.
Firstly, I would like to clarify that subscribing to the website, posting your ad and viewing all the listings on the website is completely for FREE. In addition, contact on the website is not completely restricted to only Premium Members! As a Basic Member, you can send interest messages to both Basic and Premium Members and you can also send personalized messages to the Premium Members. The upgrade to Premium Membership is merely a contact option that grants the user unlimited contact on the website to allow the search to be more efficient and effective.
With respect to having very few matches on your search page, this could be due to a number of reasons including the search filters that you have opted for or the rental price/budget. I would need to locate your account to be able to help you further in this respect. For this reason, I invite you to get in touch with our customer services team either by sending us an email on frank@easyroommate.com or giving us a call on +44 203 695 8756 from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm UK time and we will be more than happy to help you further in your search.
Also, we are ready to grant you a free extension matching the Premium Membership you paid for previously as a token of apology for any inconvenience caused and to also make things right this time round to help you be successful in your search.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon and having you back on our website!
Fake tenant profiles set to appear to make a busy website full of tenants, quite the contrary. Its a very very quiet website, I would be surprised to even get one enquiry. I paid several times and never got a response from this website. They have no refund policy unlike spareroom. Tenants on easyroomate are either fake or not actively looking. You will waste your time and money on this site.
Thank you for taking the time to review our site, Ahmad. Firstly I would like to reassure you that our website is completely genuine and we have been operating for nearly two decades, present in more than 20 countries worldwide. The users on the website are not bogus or fake profiles, they are real people actively looking for a roommate or a room just like yourself!
The mentioning of a free listing is absolutely not a gimmick, let me clarify that subscribing on the website, posting your ad and viewing all the listings is completely for FREE. The upgrade to Premium Membership is merely a contact option that grants the user unlimited contact on the website to allow the search to be more efficient and effective. I would like to remind you that the users are in total control of their search and the key to being successful on our website is by being pro-active in your search. The more messages you send out to your matches the higher the chances of finding what you are looking for! We also offer other options such as the 'Favorites' option to send messages in bulk to facilitate the user's search and the Boost Option which boosts the user's ad to the top of the search results. In addition, we send notifications by email when you send a user a message to encourage them to get back to you, however, sometimes they don't reply because they are simply not interested in that particular listing. As with regards to their inactivity, we also de-activate the ads for users who have been inactive for 14 days or more to make sure that our users on the website are actively searching and to be as transparent as possible.
Further to our phone conversation, we were able to activate a free Membership on your account, in order to proceed with your quest for a roommate.
Last but not least we're always at your disposal for any assistance regarding the use of the site.
Uses fake advertising. In my case, they pretended to be someone looking for a room on Craigslist then told me they already found a place but oh you must try easyroommate.com. Disingenous and dishonest advertising practices. No trust here.
I appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback and I'd like to apologize for this misunderstanding about our site.
Easyroommate is the world’s largest classified site, specializing in shared accommodation. We existed for more than 16 years and our service is available to users in over 20 Countries. We are ranked the first in France and the second in the UK, and I can assure you that we do not create fake profiles to pursue users from other platforms as we run a legit business for years.
We do not take part in these practices at all as we find it unacceptable. In cases like these, I advise you to contact the customer support of the platform in question and report the user that have contacted you so that they can act against him/her.
I would really like you to contact our customer support team as well at victoria@easyroommate.com so that they can evaluate your account and help you further with your search.
Thank you.
Scammer I paid $19.99 and then they do not let go in my profile.
I AM very disappointment.
Look like the site is maintained by an unskillful programmer
Not customers service, no one can answer my emails
Thank you for your feedback Kathy and we're sorry if you're having such difficulties to access your account.
Being known for our great Customer service, it came as a surprise that you're under the impression we're not replying to your emails, and we would like to make things right. Please double check the link below for all our contact options internationally and I'd like to reassure you that every email received is answered on daily basis.
https://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/article/283-the-customer-service-team
I would like to contact you at your earliest convenience so we can get this sorted, therefore, please makse sure to contact our Customer support team at victoria@easyroommate.com or at +44 203 695 8756 from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm UK time.
I’m genuinely sorry this happened and look forward to speaking with you.
Yours sincerely,
BEWARE, I was about to place an advert for a double room on the site, before completion i checked for complaints about the company on the web, as no indication of price or what is required could be found during the application.
I found 1 site had good reviews, i then found another with many complaints about the site and the company.
In the company t&c's that you must agree with, you must give authority for the site to retain and use world wide any info placed on the site, it is also clear that the site will not work unless more money is paid!
LOOK LIKE A SCAM TO ME, I AM OFF!
Thank you for your feedback Graham and we're very sorry that you did not even give Easyroommate a chance to see how it can work for you.
Similar to all businesses out there, we will not appeal to everyone. Scrolling through our reviews you will see people who are happy with their experience and you will surely see people who are not happy because they were not successful in finding what they are looking for.
The site is indeed free to use and the payment is optional, that's why you will not find any information about the fees while registration. That information can only be accessible after posting your ad, as the price will vary according to the length of time you wish to be a Premium Member for and depends on the settings of the advertiser as well.
However, as a Basic member (using the site for free), you can still post up to adverts, see all your matches for free, express interests with Basic members and contact Premium members directly for free.
You can reach our Customer support team at Victoria@easyroommate.com and we'd be glad to assist you with your experience on our site.
Thanks again for your feedback.
I believe this is a scam website. The website does not work well. It keeps frozen and not easy to swip pictures. Most likely, the site is maintained by an unskillful programmer. All profiles look suspicious. Its set up to scam landlords who are hoping to find the right tenants.
Thank you for taking time to share your feedback about Easyroommate Connie, and we're sorry if you are having technical difficulties browsing the website properly.
Easyroommate is a classified site that has existed in the flat-sharing business for more than 16 years! We're surely not a scam. The issues you have mentioned sound more technical, they either related to the internet browser or device being used.
To be able to help you have a better experience using the website, make sure to contact our Customer support team at Victoria@easyroommate.com. We'd be more than glad to find where the issue is and fix it as soon as possible.
We're looking forward to hearing from you.
Scam! That's all you need to know. Bio's are fake. I posted in the Hollywood Hills. Here's the first and only response I got:
Description
"I am a right-paralyzed in a wheelchair. I take of care myself. I love music and art and great books and great restaurant food."
Thank you for taking time to share your feedback with us and I appreciate this chance to address your concerns.
None of the profiles on our platform are bogus or fake, they are real people like you looking for a flatshare. We aim to provide a successful experience that's why our site is being monitored regularly by a large team of agents who ensure that the platform is up-to-date and safe to use. That's why we have integrated an automatic system which takes down ads if they have not been updated within 15 days.
So the description in question belongs to a someone who's using the site and who ha manually typed in a brief description of who they are and what they are looking for.
You can always contact our Customer support team directly at Victoria@easyroommate.com or call us at 0044 203 695 8756 - open Monday - Friday, 9 Am to 18.30pm GMT
As much as they claim not to be, many of the people are scams, they all have the same copy and paste bio, never edited, and unless you pay to use, you won't be able to communicate with anyone, even though most are bots.
Maybe 1/10 adverts are actually real, use other websites, this one's useless.
Thank you for taking the time to review Easyroommate.
I can assure you, that none of the profiles on our platform are bogus or fake; They were posted by real members like yourself.
All of our customers control and manage their accounts independently. To make it easier for our users to register on our site we ask them for their name, location, age and their budget as they are the main criteria when looking for a room. Based on this information our system generates a description to fit the profile.
Detailed description and posting of photos are not mandatory criteria for posting an advertisement. However, we systematically ask Members to take a few minutes to describe their search and add photos.
We aim to provide a successful experience that's why our site is being monitored regularly by a large team of agents who ensure that the platform is up-to-date and safe to use. If any of the accounts are deemed to be fake or suspicious it gets blocked. We have also integrated an automatic system which takes down ads if they have not been updated within 30 days.
Further to your review, we would like to check these profiles and look into this further to help you in your search. Kindly contact us by email at Victoria@easyroommate.com so that we can discuss this further.
I hope to hear from you soon!
EasyRoomates is just ne of the sites I advertise my many rooms for rent. In the years I communicated with their customer service team regarding site improvements too many times to mention. Imploring them to improve safety, as well as making the site more user friendly and provide better value for both parties. These improvements would-be childs play to even a novice web master. In the 10 years we been renting we have picked up more than one stranded, scammed individual from the Airport via this site. Not due to any action on EasyRoomate part, however it would have been effortlessly preventable with a few precautions, which should be provided to users traveling across continents in many cases. Be that at very least a basic safety protocal / warnings.
Its a business! OK I get that. Add a fee to be verified or find a least labouring option to some level of security. - Its clear ER is very much apposed to anything that remotely spells work. Be that site improvement - being user friendly, update, adding a service option... etc. As a landlord who has several listing, design is so poor I NEVER know which listing the possible tenant is interested in. After countless emails - ZERO results.
What I don't get is how ER remains to be NON responsive to such a consistent level of BAD REVIEWS from people across the board. I read the ERreplies to the reviews from users and sadly it's consistent with how they deal with any suggestions, recommendations or complaint via emails from users. "were sorry" & some lame excuse and that's that!
ER is so poor in preformace and devoid of life force, I had to see if I can find ANY sign of leadership, ownership, any info at all who are the people behind ER.
The company is W3 Ltd. Founded in 1998 - It sure looks like they have not changed much since. YET, Around the globe their usuers have transformed significantly. Bloomberg has some info: https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapid=*******.

On this site we can read the responsibility of each leader in the team.
Here is a snippet from the IT (CTO)
"As Chief Technology Officer, Ben is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of W3 Ltd. He manages an extensive team of Developers, Project Managers and QA Analysts as well as a large network of vendors and consultants who support the infrastructure and maintenance of each brand. As part of the Leadership Team, Bens input and recommendations are extremely valuable and is therefore involved in many product development projects."
WOW... that sounds great! If this is so... How come ER can't make the simplest of improvements to it's site? How come NOBODY is willing to GROW and GIVE A DAMN about it's users needs? Well it looks like we need a hero with passion in this industry who is hungry to REALLY fill the void in providing service in a world where HOUSING IS BECOMING A CRISIS!
I was contacted yesterday (11/2/17) by someone working with easyroommate.com offering to show me a studio apartment in an upscale area of Chicago for a monthly rent far below what I thought would be a market rate for the area, which immediately made me a little suspicious, but otherwise he seemed OK. He told me that all I would need to do to hold the apartment would be to transfer the $500 security deposit to a Bank of America account, but I told him that I would not be able to do so until the following Monday or Tuesday, which he did not say one way or another would be a problem. We made arrangements to meet there this afternoon. I e-mailed him again early this morning to ask again if the delay would be a problem, and a few minutes later I received an a-mail from a *******@easyroommate.com informing me that I would need to make the transfer to a Bank of America account owned someone with an African name within six hours or the booking would be canceled. She also told me that the person who contacted me was a "verified landlord' with their service, even though their site clearly says that they do not represent or maintain a registry of landlords, "verified" or otherwise. The requirement that the payment be made before even seeing the apartment and signing the rental agreement made me even more suspicious. An Internet search for information on the site revealed that it is notorious as a source of rental scams, and it became very clear to me at that time that the contact I had received was fraudulent. I could not imagine a legitimate rental offer would require making any payments until the prospective tenant had seen the apartment and a rental agreement had been executed. I declined to pursue the rental any further.
Thank you for your feedback, Daniel.
We're sorry to hear that you were contacted by a scammer and we appreciate this opportunity to address your concerns!
Unfortunately, some scammers use our logo, name and fake email address to contact our members and even people who are not members of the website claiming to be us.
Easyroommate is a classified site, we are not an agency and we do not interfere when it comes to booking or viewing or any financial arrangements between the landlord and the tenant.
You can find our contact details on our website from here https://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/article/283-the-customer-service-team. Any other contact other than mentioned on the page does not belong to us.
We are aware of this scam and we are doing our very best to fight against it. You can read more about this on our help page from here: https://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/category/245-scams-and-safety. We always advise on our help page to never transfer any money without meeting the landlord or seeing the room first.
I apologize once again for the inconvenience caused and if you need further assistance do not hesitate to contact us on our official contact details mentioned above.
I just signed up with easy roommate and very quickly learned that I signed up for a scam. The people on the site are 99 percent fake and after googling their pictures they show up as legit people which identity is stolen or misused. I contacted them to report several scam pictures, however, the next day I still found them in my email box. I was being so dumb... to think that any roommate want's to pay over $2000 was being naive on my part. I had to cancel after two weeks... do not go there
Thank you for taking time to review your experience on our site Luise!
We are very sorry to hear that our service did not fully meet your expectations and I can assure you that none of your matches are bogus, they are real people who are looking for flat-shares and house-shares.
Easyroommate is the world’s largest classified site, specializing in shared accommodation. We existed for more than 16 years and our service is available to users in over 20 Countries. We are ranked the first in France and the second in the UK and we're happy that you have taken the decision to join our platform.
We aim to provide a successful experience hence our site is being monitored regularly by a large team of agents who ensure that the platform.

Having to get bitcoin[smells like fraud]. Bitcoin is untraceable and about impossible to get. Why do you do it? I won't so forget it.
Thank you for your feedback Brian and we appreciate the opportunity to confirm that Bitcoin payment is a scam indeed!
Matter of fact, any money sent to Easyroommate under the claim of booking a room is a scam as we will never text or email you to book a viewing, organize a key delivery or collect a rent and deposit payment. We are not an agency, we are a classified site and the only people representing our firm are -us- the customer care team, and you can only reach us using the email addresses and phone numbers available under "Contact us" section on our homepages: https://easyroommate-uk.helpscoutdocs.com/article/13-the-customer-service-team
Unfortunately, some scammers use our name and logo to contact Members and non-Members of the site, but we are doing our best to aware all of our users against this scam and you can keep track of that on our FAQs as well!
Thanks again for your feedback Brian, it's always better safe than sorry!
Very legit looking and feeling website - but it's a complete scam! They ask you to pay a deposit of $500 and say it's refundable... they almost had me until they asked me to go to a moneygram place!
Thank you for your feedback.
I am sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience. I would like to ensure you that EasyRoommate is a classified website and it functions as a host for room ads and people searching for rooms. We do not take part in any financial arrangements between the landlords and the tenants.
In rare occasions, scammers tend to use our email format and name with a fake email address to impersonate EasyRoommate. This allows them to trick the users into placing payments that are not authorized by the website.
We do have a team of moderation team that checks the accounts on the website around the clock but unfortunately some of the slip through the moderation process. This is one of the reasons why we have the flag option on our website so that our users can report them if they notice any suspicious activities to our moderation team.
I would really like you to forward us the emails you have received to our customer support team and contact us on of the following details below.

You have to pay in order to contact anyone and get a full list of potential renters. I payed, hoping to contact lots of people and they kept showing me the same people over and over again. It's expensive for just 30 days and I didn't see the benefit at all. I also feel like it's a huge scam to get your money. I had my ad on Kijiji as well for free, with people message me for free and I finally found someone to rent. Easy roommate in my opinion was a waste of money and time.
Thank you for your feedback Sheri and I'm sorry if you were not successful with your search!
I wish to inform you, Sheri, that you can indeed use the site for free, you can post an ad for free, search for flatmates and view their profiles for free, communicate with all your Premium Matches for free and send your Basic Matches interest messages for free as well.
The Premium Membership is an optional feature which will give your ad a better visibility and enable you to communicate with your Basic Matches. However, the Premium membership is not related to the search results, as these latter are directly linked to your ad criteria "Rent price and search area". The Premium membership does not enhance the quantity or the quality of your matches, you can see all your matches for free without having to pay and you only pay to gain access to contact them, not to see more of them.
I do understand that paying a membership fee when you are looking for a new roommate can seem to defeat the savings purpose of flatsharing. But what the membership does is really give you the best chances to find a flatmate in the shortest delay and not risk having your spare room empty for a month.
Our goal is simply and purely to help you fill that spare room the fastest possible and we're ready to activate a free Premium membership on your account to help you achieve that.
I’m happy to discuss further feedback by email at victoria@easyroommate.com
I look forward to speaking with you further.
Before I paid, I couldn't find out that they have very few people looking for tenants in my city, and I live in a large city. And then after I paid, I got only three or four inquiries and zero rentals, over a TWO month period, even though I have a killer location. I get more inquiries than than from Craigslist in a day, and they are free!
I got a few other inquiries, but they were all scammers. I even took the time to initiate contact to some people on the list, but no one bothered to even answer, so not sure if they are real or shill tenants.
All in all, this site is a scam.
I'm sorry if you were not successful finding a roommate on our site William. I appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback and I'd like to take the chance to address your concerns.
When you create your account and post your ad, you get to see all of your matches for free without having to pay, as the site is free to use and the payment is linked to the contact options only. It's not linked to the quality or quantity of your matches, as these latter are related to your ad criteria and can only be controlled by you!
I understand your frustration at not receiving enough interests in regards to your room offer, but, our customers independently manage their accounts, the advertisers they’d like to contact and the room they want to live in.
Your matches may not check your emails right away, therefore we advise you to ring those who have provided a phone number for a quicker reply, and please be assured that none of our members are “shill tenants” or bogus, providing a reliable service is our goal and that's why we have established a system that deactivates each unavailable ad within 15 days of the last update.
We aim to satisfy the needs of our members, that's why you have been given a free month right after the expiry of your membership to help you have another chance contact the members on the site and find a suitable tenant. However, the membership does not guarantee you a tenant, it's a method that helps you get in touch with your matches but if these latter have better or cheaper offers on the site they might not get back to your offer. For this reason, our customer support team have emailed you and tried contacting you over the phone to offer help but to no avail.
We'd be glad to help you out with your search on the site William, so make sure to contact us at Victoria@easyroommate.com.
I rarely write review, but this website just pissed me off.
My listing was not even searchable through the website.
When I emailed several times to their email adress, I received zero response.
Requested for refund but they couldn't do it.
Don't use the website. Go use gumtree or craigslist.
Hello Kenji,
I'm sorry if you were unable to locate your ad on the site and we're glad we were able to sort this misunderstanding out on the phone. What happened is that whenever you edit your advert on the site it goes straight to the moderation process and that takes about an hour time maximum. While the ad is being reviewed you will not be able to locate it on the site. Your ad is live and active on the site, and we have also restarted your membership again for free to make up for the confusion and inconveniences caused.
Thanks again for your feedback and best of luck with your search.
Do not use Bitcoin for anything related to renting, it is a scam! Scammers got my informTion from this site and contacted me directly! I lost $400 today.
Thank you for your feedback Katy,
First and for most I'm sorry if you have been a victim of a scam and I'd like to take this opportunity to clarify Easyroommate's position regarding your concerns.
Indeed, unfortunately, in rare cases, scammers use our name and logo to contact and prey on Members and non-Members of the site. We are not an agency, we are a classified site and we will never text or email you to book a viewing, organize a key delivery or collect a rent and deposit payment.
The only people representing our firm are our customer support team, and they can only contact or be contacted using the contact options available on this page: https://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/article/283-the-customer-service-team
Any other email addresses are just fake and belong to fraudsters who claim to be part of Easyroommate. To bring awareness to our users and help them stay safe, we have dedicated a whole section on our website FAQS to scams and safety and we also send safety tips via email to all of our users where we clearly advise them not to wire money and not to make any financial agreements with anyone they haven't met in person.
We are extremely sorry you had to go through this unfortunate experience as part of Easyroommate and if you can contact us at victoria@easyroommate.com we'd be glad to help you further.
Thanks again for your feedback.

Answer: I am so sorry to hear that the person you were trying to reach turned out to be not advertising at all Karen! Firstly I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused you. There are a number of reasons why this might have happened Karen, it could be that a malicious user created an account fraudulently using this phone number on our website. Also, bear in mind that this might also have been due to a typo mistake either by yourself when ringing her up or by the user herself when inputting her phone number on her account. To assist you further with this and gain a better understanding of the situation would you please get back to us by sending us an email on frank@easyroommate.com providing us the Listing ID of this user in order to check this further. Answer: I am so sorry to hear about your situation and I would be glad to help you. Firstly I would like to clarify that Easyroommate does not interfere in the landlord/tenant business. As we are a classified site and not an agency it is entirely up to the user to contact and agree on all the terms of the contract. Since we do not handle the rental process or interfere in the communication or arrangements between members, we will not be able to mediate at this stage. However, I do advise you to go to local police station and file a complaint if you wish and we will be glad to provide any further information that may be required by the authorities, also kindly get back to me at Frank@easyroommate.com with the listing id of this user in order to take the necessary actions. Also, what we can do at this point is to help create a new search ad and we can activate a Premium Membership for you free of charge to help you speed up the search for the ideal room. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and hope to hear from you soon.
Answer: Hi Lilian, Could you kindly ask you for your email address to be able to check the account if the transaction went through? You can also drop me a line at Frank@easyroommate.com Hope to hear from you soon

Answer: Thank you for contacting Easyroommate Sue. I'd be glad to help you with your search and how to have a safe experience while using an online website! First, to be able to check the ad for you I'm going to need the full listing ID, as the one you have posted is missing a number and it did not allow me to find the ad in question. However, the good news is that there is a really easy way to ensure that you are not scammed - First and fore-most - Do not make financial agreements or arrangements with anyone you have not personally met. You can read more about online safety on our FAQS from here: https://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/category/245-scams-and-safety and you can also contact our Customer support directly by email as well from here: Victoria@easyroommate.com Thanks again for contacting us and I'm looking forward to helping you further.
Answer: People looking for accommodation are not the only ones at risk. Landlords are also targeted by scammers. Scammers con money from members advertising rooms by sending payment meant to secure a room remotely, usually by cheque. This will seem above board until they ask you for all or part of this payment back. Once you have partially or wholly refunded the payment, you will discover that the initial cheque you received has bounced. Rental scams do not always involve fake payments directly relating to the rent, they may use associated moving costs as another method. For instance, if your new tenant is moving from another country and claims that they have paid for some belongings to be shipped/relocated to your property - they may invent some convoluted story about needing to make a final payment when their shipment arrives, but have unfortunately (and conveniently) had their credit card stolen. We have a strong knowledge of these scams and we have a dedicated team on Easyroommate that works 24/7 to keep the site safe to use. If you encounter any malicious user again, you can go ahead and flag their accounts using the flag option at the bottom of their profiles, this way the moderation team will take action immediately. We are always here to help you if you would like to check any accounts or if you need any assistance using the site, our email address is: Victoria@easyroommate.com
Answer: Dear Adam, Thank you for your message. To be able to check the interests in your area you need to go to the section for posting a room. This section appears in green on the right-hand side, at the top of the Home Page. From there you will need to enter the address, to select some details about the room and to register your email address. Once your ad is created, you can go to the Search section and see all the profiles for potential flatmates. This is absolutely free and does not commit you to anything. You can also access to the section by clicking on the link below. http://www.easyroommate.com/content/have/profilehave.aspx?id=1&opt=H If you prefer, I can also do the search for you. If you send me in which city you are, I will be able to send you the number of potential flatmates that are currently looking for a room in your area. I would also like to draw your attention that we do have a Customer Service email address, in case you have other questions, or if you want to get back to us directly: victoria@easyroommate.com You can see our FAQ by following the below link: http://easyroommate-us.helpscoutdocs.com/ I hope you will find this helpful. I wish you best of luck on our website. Customer Service Team Easyroommate
We are very sorry to hear that you are not happy with your experience on our site, Luke, and I appreciate this chance to address your concerns.
Easyroommate is a matching system, so when you register as a landlord, we already do half of the search for you and provide you with profiles that we call "Matches", as they match your location, rent price, and by the help of set of filters we have provided, you get to narrow down your search and make it more accurate in terms of distance, age range, gender and occupation as well. Also, as most of the users are ready to compromise on their needs when running a room search, that's why you will find a slight percentage of profiles with budgets higher and lower then your rent price. But you can always adjust your search results and set them either by nearest, lowest budget, higher budget or newest.
On the other hand, the profile of the roommates can only be what the users make them. If the user is in a rush to start a search and they leave their description blank, we automatically add their name, budget and search area on their behalf.
But, trust that we are working hard to make it more appealing and easy for these members to come back to their account to write a detailed description, as profile and ad quality are very important to us. We are also working on adding more features to encourage all users to provide more and useful details to help them with their search and help us as a portal.
Last but not least, regarding the contact options, I confirm that the site is indeed free to use and most of our users are Basic. With a Basic membership, users are able to see all of their matches, send interest to other Basic ads, but they are still able to contact and be contacted by Premium advertisers directly for free.
We'd like to discuss the matter further with you and see how we can make things right for you. You can email us at victoria@easyroommate.com we will get back to you promptly.
We look forward to hearing from you and earning you back as a happy Customer.
