The site has bugs, bots and underhanded billing practices. My bad for not reading reviews prior to signing up. Please save your hard earned money and do not sign up on this site.

Sorry, that you found a bug on our site. Did you report it so it could be fixed? No idea what you mean by "Bots" and no issues with billing. Straight forward billing at roomster. You can cancel your billing at any time with one click! Roomster is a great site for finding rooms and roommates since 2003!

Absolutely worthless

1) you can create a free room listing - yay!
2) you have to pay to see any messages, far more than the competitors for less duration
3) I received ZERO leads from my area for 3 weeks with a free listing
4) I had to pay to see one bogus lead 1.5 hours away including a ferry ride
5) Finally I received not a lead but a listing 5 hours away in... Canada!
6) They denied any problems and gave no refund

I was surprised...rather, naive.
Fake accounts made it seem so much like those dating apps.
The really tricky, disingenuous action they've taken is to make you think you have lots of messages. And, of course, the only way to see those messages is to pay. So, you open the messages and THEY ARE NOT MESSAGES. They're basically posts of units, etc that are available. No one is reaching out to you. The same info is free if you just type in your parameters.
And to further make it seem like you're going to be making contact with a potential roommate, there's a screen that pops up asking you to agree to be careful in your pending negotiations. Such deception.
There may be a righteous site or app out there that really has everyone's best interest. Roomster is definitely not such a set.up.
I also failed with roomies.com and Craigslist. Bogus agendas offering credit score info, "Hurry, don't miss out" strategies...
Be careful, friends.

Second, it looks like you receive megaphone messages, they are not posts of units but real people who want to let you know about their listings.

Sent several messages, none were responded too but then a random man with no photo that neither of us contacted sent both me and my daughter private messages that we then find out we have to pay to read the messages. Get the feeling if we pay to read the message that it is just spam and nothing real, which makes you wonder are any of them real or current because we sent a lot of messages that not one person responded back on. Only spam bot/guy. Kinda scummy business practice.

Absolutely disgusted with this app as my boyfriend was scammed out of $1200 in "rent" after trusting that someone by the name of Savannah had a room to rent for him. After sending the money he was then told she needed an additional $500 to "send the keys" we will be taking legal action however it is unacceptable that this app and these people are taking advantage of innocent people looking for a place to lay their heads.

You don't always get a timely response to a booking request. Many will not respond if you call to inquire if the room is still available when it's been rented, but it's not indicated on the site anywhere (option doesn't exist, ad not taken down). A few of the folks with ads were just trolling to see who would show up. Once you received an address to go meet with the Renter/landlord and see the room, no one was home or they wouldn't answer the door. One guy gave me a time to come by his home, then emailed that he had to go pick up his car which was parked elsewhere, so I just cancelled. I don't like playing games- don't make an appointment and then decide you need to do something else. The homes that had more than 1 room to rent had multiple people using 1 bathroom. One entry in an older home had a loose handrail going up the steps to the front door and crumbling concrete; it was obvious that regular maintenance and repairs weren't being done. Add to that the weird oddities cluttering his small yard and on the porch that diminished any welcoming aspect to the home. There were many steep stairs to the upstairs rental. Many are not handicap accessible. I quit using Roomies.com because of these problems. Morristown and Johnson City, TN areas.
Due to privacy issues and the fact that I did not rent at any of these places, I have no photos or receipts.

The one thing I will say is make sure to confirm with someone that your subscription has been canceled. Despite what they say - deactivating or suspending your account does not stop them from charging you. They also say you can cancel just by clicking cancel but no such button exist. I do not recommend.

You've been warned….shiesty shady $#*! company. I hope every one of you in your fraudulent company are born with some sort of terrible condition or under awful living environment in your next life that causes extreme physical pain and emotional damage that makes you want to die every day of your miserable life.

Mark my words, scumbags like you will receive their karma and sometimes it doesn't show up in your current lifetime. I assure you, your conning lifestyle will surface!

Extremely bad site. Not only in the zero results that you get but in customer service. I am a landlord trying to advertise a unit to lease and subscribed for one month $$29.99. I got the weirdest requests from Roomster's clients and from all over locations that did not relate to any future residents for the unit's area. I used the service for 2 days only and immediately realized the mistake. I requested refund or partial refund but Roomster customer service rejected. Roomster is not worth your time or your money.

An absolute joke!

Roomster has good site infrastructure and is easy to navigate and find rooms, however the services requires that you pay before you can even communicate with anyone on the site which is an absolute joke. Just use Roomies or Spareroom and forget this nonsense.

I signed up for a 7 day trial period and had to pay for that to even try the service which probably should have been a red flag ($11.99). During that trial period they had servers down so the site was non-functioning for part of this trial. In addition, I never had responses to any of the inquiries made about rooms listed. This morning I received notice I was charged for the full book amount for the service (same day I had noted on my calendar that I needed to cancel by). I emailed asking for a refund on that charge of $29.99 (and describing my experience) and was refused - I told it was not their policy to make any exceptions, even when the experience of the customer is negative --- and their own site/servers had issues. I understand. I also think it is worth warning others about this so this is what I wanted to do here. This "service" had no value, was a waste of time and money. I paid over $40 in total in less than 8 days. It's not about the money as much as the principle involved.

Roomster practices a clickbait sort of business where in order to open your "messages" where you see like 7-10 of them, you need to buy a membership. Thank God I only bought the cheapest one for $11.99 for 1 week only. Then I get to see these "messages". These are NOT directed to my listing at all. The so called mesages are just other people writing that they are looking for a room (some of them at the other end of the state), so they weren't directed to me at all, just general postings. I am not sure why they were in my inbox, probably to make me buy a membership. Well, I complained about it and let's see what the answer is going to be...still waiting. Overall, I would NEVER recommend as a landlord to post your place for rent. Roomies.com is waaaaaay better.

I've found more than one person on that site throughout the years. The roommates weren't bad either. HOWEVER customer service has always given me HORRIBLE HORRIBLE assistance THERE IS NONE! They will reply to you. However whatever it is that you need, that can't assist with you. You will be charged with no refunds. Even if you contact them ahead of time or even if you so happen to get the same representative. Once you no longer have a subscription you seem to get MANY MANY messages. When you have a new subscription NO ONE SEEMS TO MESSAGE YOU AT ALL. Odd huh? BUT VERY VERY TRUE. Would i recommend the site yeah. They filter your messagez & post though.

Upto 20 responses a day for all bogus

Say 500 inquiries over 2 months only 4 showings all no shows. Tried to cancel. But they keep charging me. When I tried to sign in to complain they keep trying to sign me backup. I've noticed same complaint from other people. DONT use Roomster.com
