English Elm processed my credit card and told me they were out of stock as well as the maker. I have checked every supplier known who carries this chair, and ALL have been out of stock. If you look online, they still do not advertise that chairs are out of stock. Completely misleading and corrupt. Plus they don't answer phone or messages. Big lesson. They suck.
Getting a desk right now is next to impossible with everyone working from home. They had the perfect desk for my room, but the reviews here were pretty bad so I was hesitant. I spoke with "Doreen" and "Candice" prior to buying the item. Sure enough, it was out of stock, but you could still checkout, which was concerning. Doreen emailed back within the hour letting me know it is out of stock, but coming in a few days and was able to reserve it. Keep in mind this desk is out of stock everywhere, so I was thinking this is shady. I purchased and it came 5 days later. Felt I should give them some props for coming through. Maybe my bar was very low, but a lot of other places didn't even respond to my email asking if it was available.
I ordered a chair on Saturday and emailed the company to cancel on the next day. Not only did I get an reply on a Sunday, my card was immediately refunded. Based on reviews, I was expecting a disastrous experience and that is not how things turned out. Maybe I got lucky. Maybe they are making improvements. I will never know but I do owe them a decent review for handling my cancellation in a quick manner.
Customer service was very prompt and informative with my email inquiries regarding shipping and deliveries. You also have the best pricing by far that I could find for the brand of bar stools I was needing.
Hard to even explain. Tried ordering a piece of furniture, received a bizarrely worded email about it being out of stock and that I should order again to be waitlisted on back order, did so and received the same email, with other strange emails in between. Just bad and sketchy. Will not be using them again.
I waited for an item on back order, it came and had missing parts, then they shipped me a new one that was completely stained. I asked to be refunded and that I was done with this order, terrible quality item and in bad condition and they refuse to refund me. Spare yourself and order from anywhere else.
I ordered a print from the website on 10/4/22. After waiting 7 full business days I emailed to get status. My response came quickly, indicating they do not have it in stock and and don't know when they will be getting more. I would add a pdf of my order number and date but this won't take a pdf. I read many reviews just like this (unfortunately I read them after my order was placed), I would tell anyone not to waste their time with this company. I will not order from them again.
HI Connie! We understand your disaapointment and we sincerely apologize with this one. But we really have no control with regards to abrupt stock availability changes. On the other hand, we make sure that our customers will be updated through their email and will be given the option for placing their order as back order or activate the refund process.
Most complicated return process I have EVER dealt with. I would not recommend purchasing from here if you are on the fence about an item simply because of the return process. You lose out on $15+ dollars depending on the size and weight of your item when sending it back (I am losing out on $15 return fee for a comforter PLUS whatever I end up paying at a shipping facility). You also have to create your own shipping label to send it back. Way too much of a hassle!
Bought a coffee table from English Elm. Was not happy with the item and payed $150.00 to ship it back. The package was damaged in transit and an investigation was supposed to be performed by ups but English elm denied ups the inspection. And would not refund my $460.00 for the table. I followed all the requests for the inspection process. They promised they would hold on to the item until the inspection was completed. But they lied and did not. They would not let ups inspect the package. They would not return my call to discuss the matter. Apparently they have a long history of screwing over their customers. They're unethical! Save yourself time and money. Buyer beware from English Elm!

I ordered a dining table and a console table. I was very excited. They took the $1500- just to email me days later saying- the console table actually sold out. I could wait months and they'll hold the money and ship it out then. Okay. I'll take the refund now. The next day. The dining table is actually also sold out. I could wait months and they can hold my money or I could wait another few business days for a refund. I said that's crazy that everything I ordered happened to be sold out and they said "there is no way we can keep our website updated with what's out of stock" what! They will hold your money, not give you products, and not update what they're sold out of. Don't shop here and get excited about a piece that you'll pay for but never get just to get refunded later.
Hi Paige, we're immensely sorry for what happened. There are certain cases when products suddenly get out of stock on the supplier's warehouse, but rest assured that you will be updated and will also be given the option to cancel or wait for the restock.
I ordered two wing chairs - which by the way took almost 8 months to receive when I promised it would take 4 months. When I received the FIRST delivery, one leg of the chair was completely cracked in half. I was issued a new chair - upon the SECOND delivery the chair was severely stained and appeared to have been used prior.
English Elm will not replace the chair! In fact, no one will have the decency to even call me. And it is clear that they do not empower their front line employees to make appropriate decisions to rectify the situation. I was offered a $175 credit so that I can 'pay for professionally cleaning myself' or personally pay shipping charges to send back the stained chair! This is absolutely absurd - I simply want two chairs that are in NEW condition - which is what I paid for.
I would NEVER recommend buying a single item from this company. They clearly do not provide products in new condition, lack customer service, and the owners will not even call me back!

2/3 items, they didn't have. Very poor customer service. Will not buy there ever again. Still waiting for them to adjust the order and refund my CC.

I purchased about $10k worth of deck furniture and incorrect items were delivered. All of the sudden English Elm are ghosts. Can't get in touch with anyone live on the phone, noone responds on chat, nor do they acknowledge emails in a timely fashion. Wish me luck!
I wish I would have read all the other reviews before I ordered. This is one pathetic operation. I have never been spoken to by customer service like this before. They want you to keep the damaged merchandise and they will give you a discount! That's professional! The worst experience I have ever had ordering online. There's a reason no one has ever heard of this company before. Just go to wayfair- they know how to treat their customers. THE WORST!
Hello! I am sincerely sorry for the poor experience you had. We do offer discounts for minimally damaged items if customers would rather have that, but we never force customers to keep damaged items. I see that after you declined to keep your item for a discount your item was scheduled for a free return and full refund. Again, our apologies.
Radio silence for weeks out of the nearly two months we waited for the product. Expected delivery December 18th and it arrived a full month later. No updates for four weeks. Then the chair arrived damaged.
This is the worst online purchase experience I've ever had. We ordered a swivel glider for nursing and it arrived weeks after our baby was born leaving us with no place to nurse during that time. English Elm is absolute garbage customer service and the products are either used or getting damaged in their incredibly slow shipping.
I purchased something from this site back in February only to be told it was no longer being sold and asked if I wanted a refund. I of course said yes but it was days after my credit card had been charged and the refund took forever... I should have known better because a few months later I ordered another item from the item and again was told it was out of stock. I told them to cancel it again and then it showed up in the mail a few days later... I had already purchased the EXACT same item from another site and now I can't get a hold of anyone at customer service to return it...
I ordered an item and was then told it was back ordered and had to email multiple times to get updates on it only to have one sentence response back of " the date is now x to deliver". Moving months at a time. Very disappointed in the lack of preemptive emails to customers to let them know of issues.
Bought a green rug from them and was sent a blue and grey rug. This company is the worse. If they make a mistake in your order u have to eat it. They did everyone they could to not me a happy customer in the long run after probably 50 text they told me they would not do anything for me. I have to keep the rug I don't want and did nothing. I ordered 2 dining benches; before delivering them, they advised me they were damaged; 2 months later, when I tried to cancel the order, they insisted I pay a return fee. When I spoke with Customer Service, they insisted they were within their rights to charge a return fee per their return policy, totally missing the point that over months is an unacceptable amount of time to wait for an order. Incidentally, I ordered 2 different benches at Overstock.com and they came in less than a week; no hassles.
I ordered 20 barstools for my restaurant and waited 3 months for delivery. They finally arrived and they came in two pieces, a seat and a base. As I unboxed each one, it became clear they were all defective. The wooden pieces on the barstool seat were over 1" off from the metal base where they were to connect via screw. There was no way to assemble even 1 stool.
I contacted English Elm within an hour with a photo and they said they did not see how the stools were defective. I documented each stool base to seat in a photo, which shows that they don't line up and cannot be assembled. English Elm says that that manufacturer does not see how they are defective and will not acknowledge my claim. I have attached a photo here of #20/20 stools, all with the same problem.
I will do more research in the future and only order from reputable companies. I hope consumers see this review in time and think twice about doing business with this duplicitous and unscrupulous company.
