ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I bought a $69 Kate Spade. It was listed in good condition. It literally had dried up milk and/or vomit in it. Seriously disappointed.
I paid $197 on the website and they took 250 off my visa. Then said the items I ordered " they couldn't Find" and didn't refund me all my money back. And the best part is I just got a voicemail saying I owe more money in duty fees. This was a joke and I'll never be shopping off this site again.
It's been almost two years and my account never showed they received my stuffed full bag off what turned into "donations". They acted like it never existed which is horrible because I tracked that it was delivered to them. I placed new Nordstrom clothes in that were never worn VERY EXPENSIVE brands and I never saw a single penny for them. They scammed me and I have a very hard time getting over it. I needed money for maternity clothes at the time and they royally screwed me over. I even asked for the option to pay to return them to me and didn't even get that option. Here's what's really weird…I found my exact bunch of clothes for sale on there. I KNOW they for a FACT stole from me. There really needs to be a class action lawsuit against this company. They're running it illegally for sure.
Bought 4 faux leather jackets marked as "like new". 2 of them came with enough leather peeling that they weren't wearable :(
Skimpy descriptions sometime don't even guess at fabric type; coats don't include if they are lined and with what; shoes photos don't include whether there is wear on soles. These issues made me not want to risk paying blindly for an item, then having to pay for returning it. Didn't buy anything.
Repeatedly had to contact to get $. They were going to send ecard for a fitness Co. Disregarding when I signed up w/ Vera Bradley. I was to receive VB credit. Sent over 10lbs of brand name clothing. I took tags off some items prior to sending. Received $8 for everything. Not worth the time and energy to contact then to get $. Will continue to donate to Salvation Army.
I send a package to sell my clothes, which they got it on 7/16/2021. Untill this day, I only know they got the bag, but anything else at all.
I absolutely love the items I've found. BUT... they need to have a more dependable shipping method. I ordered a dress for an event (2wks!) in advance and they still missed the mark on me receiving it on time.
I have been having problems with them. Placed one order in may and a few in Feb or before during this year. More often that not, my big orders have issues from arriving damaged and with missing items. The box is usually broken up and if FedEx is nice enough, they put extra tape on it when it seems damaged but if not, it shows up at your door looking like it went through a tornado along the way. While I understand items missing can be human error, I feel that it happens along the way with the condition the box arrived in. Today thredup has told me they will investigate my "claimed" missing 3 items since I already had items missing this year. Maybe you should learn from your mistakes so customers can actually receive their items. I even sent them photos as proof every time.
Do not use this online clothing store if you want anything delivered less then 4 weeks. Poor customer service where they completely lie to your face that their behind and lie about the process should take 3 to 5 business days even though your package has been in transit for 3 weeks already!
I have had several successful dealings with this company, but the last few - not so much. The latest being I sent in a Burberry Jacket, A Burberry Hoodie and a Calvin Klien coat. None were accepted due to wear. I wore the Burberry items for a total of two weeks on a cruise and had never worn the Calvin Klien. Just a heads up.
Purchased a bunch of clothing end of July and returned them to find the clothes we're in poor condition and smelled like cigarette smoke. Returned the items for my money back even though they deducted $10 for whatever reason. Anyways returned the items almost two weeks ago and STILL haven't gotten my money back it's impossible to get in touch with anyone no phone number no one available on live chat and no one answers emails. Scam company I'll never purchase from them again
First of all my order took a full two weeks to receive. I asked what was going on after it had been over one week and it still hadn't shipped yet and they gave me some nonsense answer about it being good for the environment. This is their go-to response when they're doing a bad job. I've learned this from previous issues I've had with them. I should say that a few years ago I used to order everything from this company, and I loved them, but in the last 4 years I've made 3 orders, because I keep forgetting how bad they are after a year or so, and then I make an order and remember why I said I would never use this garbage company again.
Anyway, so two weeks pass, I finally get my purchase, and when I open the box everything is different from the description and pictures on the website. I ordered 6 pairs of high waist, straight leg jeans. I examined the pictures, I read the measurements, I wanted to be sure I didn't get anything uncomfortable like low rise jeggings. Well, guess what... I got 6 pairs of low rise jeggings instead of what I so meticulously ordered. Every single item was different from the description.
I have no idea what they're doing over there with descriptions. In the past I ordered shirts that they claimed were in "like new" condition and the pictures looked perfect. What I received were shirts with huge bleach stains, black tarry stains, holes... They definitely aren't using pictures of the actual product you're buying. Is this fraud? It feels like fraud. Anyway, I hope to prevent other people from making the same mistake I did.
I have been trying to get a return label since the day the item was delivered! I immediately contacted Thredup and advised them that I needed a return label... No response! Time is ticking and I need this item returned by Aug 6th. I feel like they are doing this on purpose so that I can't return it.
This company is a joke. I sent them my clothing and it not only did it take them 4 months to go through it and decide what they wanted to sell and what they wanted to send back but then they had no record of the items they kept and only sold one dress (that was 80 dollars, never worn and in perfect condition) and they sold it for &5.00. Have no record of the other 9 items they kept and no one will contact me to discuss. I might as well have thrown away the clothes. These were name brand high quality clothing. Sell your items at a yard sale or give to a thrift shop. This company is a rip off.
I did not have a great experience shopping here. The site photos were not accurate and I received jeans that were a different cut from the pics. However, I managed to FINALLY get a refund after returning them, which I do appreciate. But customer service wasn't super responsive and I had to really try to get my full refund. It wasn't quick and easy.
Before I even downloaded this app. I read the reviews. Thanks to reviews I will NOT be wasting my time, either! I have read about many customers who purchased items that were supposed to be "like new" disappointed, and how the customer service "team" is horrible and doesn't return your messages or calls.
Doesn't surprise me!
It is also a waste of time I read of trying to sell anything and make any money. As if you don't make squats, you THEN have to pay to have them sent back.
Sounds like a shoddy horrible"company"! I trust the reviews, and hopefully others will read them before proceeding as well.
So I know with consignment that you don't get much but that they don't pay at all seems criminal to me. They owe me $156 and continue to say that an email has been sent with an Athleta gift card attached but that has never happened. Scam? Maybe….
I mailed coach purses, valuable, and profitable items to Thred up. They lied and stated they never received them, never sold them, or transferred the items to UPcycle. I saw some of my items on their website for sale. Don't sell to them. They are crooks!
I loved this website for buying clothes when I first found it a few years ago, but they keep getting worse. I always get some items that are sized wrong, but that happens with most online purchases. Then I started getting items that said they were like new with noticeable stains or patches falling off or holes that weren't visible in the few pictures they post. They also reduced cart timers to only 4 hours, which is not long enough considering they have a buy more save more coupon and coupon codes that can only be used once. So while you are looking to see if there is anything else you want you lose what you most wanted.
I tried selling for the first time- I knew they weren't going to give me much, but its the worst of all worlds. You only get paid when your item sells and if it doesn't sell in a certain time, then it "becomes thredup's" so they can still sell it and give you nothing... In addition they will sell your item for $20-30 and give you $1-2 which is crazy. At least when I give my clothes away I have a sense that I did something good and didn't just make some corporate sleaze-ball richer
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
