ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Impossible to reach when there's an issue. I have ordered from them once before and had no issues. However, this time is different. I ordered some beach dresses one week in advance of when I wanted them. They shipped within two days and I thought everything was fine. My package is sitting on the other side of the country for the last three days with no updates. There is no expected date of delivery. I cannot find a way to reach anybody at threat up to get answers. I would not order from them again and do not recommend them
I feel thread up is just a broad day robbery! All they shipped to me in Canada is torn used clothes. I feel really hurt and robbed. I will never buy from thread up again. Pls Run!
I've ordered dozens of items the past several years from ThredUp. Many were excellent, a few were horrid. I always donate what I don't like because someone else will find it wonderful. I just now started the Goody Box (you know, personal shopper). Epic fail - I literally hated every single thing chosen so I won't be doing that again. I trust my own ideas much more than a strangers. Lesson learned. Also, some items the past year have been disappointing - wrong size, wrong quality, etc. Once covid is past, I'll go back to local shopping in thrift stores. But - all in all - it's a decent site. -merri
Thread up is an awesome concept and has tons of cute cloths at great price points but the customer service is so disappointing it ruins the whole experience. I made my first order with them 4 weeks ago. When I checked out I made sure to check that the order was UPS as USPS can not be delivered to my house. The package ended up being UPS but then switched to USPS on its final delivery. The package was not delivered and sent back to the sender. I got in contact with Thread Up customer service right away to tell them to redeliver to my PO box. The agent said no problem at all. They told me it may take up tp 3 weeks to be redelivered, I was fine with that. So I patiently waited three weeks. On the third week I emailed them again to check in on the status. The agent then told me they don't know where my order is and will just have to chalk it up to being lost. The package was NOT lost, I know this because I found all the dresses I had ordered listed back in the shop again. This was my first order with thread up so I was given a 50% code for being new. I asked the agent to please send me a new code so I can try to order again. She sent me a 15% off code... are you kidding me? I asked again for a 50% and received one but it doesn't even work. So needless to say my thread up experience was very frustrating and I definitely will not be ordering from them again and I urge everyone else to avoid them as well.
Having previously worked in retail, I acquired a closet full of upscale clothing. Most of which I never wore. I was pulled into ThredUP's lures of reselling my items and making a small profit on the side. Little did I know how small, if any, profit there would be. My first bag sent on May 24,2021, had numerous high-end items, including a Pierre Cardin Paris Couture dress, most of which never made it to their listing (including the Pierre Cardin). Five items were listed, of which 4 I would receive any payout on. From my second bag, 4 items were listed, of which only 2 I would receive any payout. When contacting customer service, I was told that the items that were listed for sale, but not under my sales, were not worthy of a payout. In other words, ThredUp is making a 100% profit from the items I sent in. Oh, and the payout of items they do list for you, mere pennies. You will not make enough to buy a cup of coffee. I learned my lesson the hard way. From the top on down, they are only interested in making a profit off your hard-earned items. It's the old "bait and switch" tactics. They bait you with promises of making money from your items, only to switch the tables on you and keep the profits for themselves. I write this review hoping to spare others from the misery I went through with ThredUp. Oh, and another catch. They won't return your items until after a certain length of time, a very long time, and then you have to pay for the return shipping. There are many other avenues you can pursue in reselling your clothing. Local consignment shops, eBay, Poshmark, to name a few. But, please, save yourselves the heartache and expense and do not use ThredUp.
I have sent 3 bags over a 1 month period just to get my closet cleaned out. These clothes were all fairly new … the last bag contained an authentic Prada backpack purse. No record of it being in the bag …
It is impossible to reach these people by phone
The internet chat is a joke with palliative answers
No one has ever called me back
The Prada backpack was authentic… I believe it was taken for resale somewhere else.
I will not use this company again.
Beware of the scam!
UPDATE… I finally did receive an email after I contacted the Media site. The email says they reserve the right to not accept any items. Yes. But the Prada is not even listed as not accepted. Theft? Yes in my opinion. Scam artists. Live and learn!
I have spent thousands of dollars over the past year on thredup. I LOVE buying second-hand for a variety of reasons, and have always found exactly what I needed... and then some. In the course of my 50+ order history, I have grown very accustomed to everything being shipped within 48 hours and received ALWAYS within 10 days. However, they have recently implemented a new shipping change without any customer communication. I have a $200+ order that has still not been shipped and it was purchased 7 days ago. This is such poor customer service and customer communication. For a company as well-established as Thredup, I'm not sure how this change got approved without the proper departments weighing in on the impact it would have on their customer's shopping habits. I will really be thinking twice about ordering from now on.
Every time I tell Threup that they need much better website programmers, they get even worse! I just call them FedUp.com now. I just checked in to see how badly they currently are doing. The site could not retain my size, although I tried many ways to trick it into saving my one size. It gave me all sizes of cargo pants. I'm not size 2. They just don't care that people give up and leave. I guess they make plenty of money anyhow. I see you want my order ID below. What order? I can't find anything on this site. I worked for the FAA as a programmer - if the programmers of FedUp did that work, you would be hearing of many airplane crashes daily. I only come for the laughs, in the beginning I could place an order. Not any more.
Bought several items 9 shirts 5 pair of pants have not received any of it tryed to contact them but no one there but they sure got my money
I believe this was my 2nd or 3rd purchase with thred up. I know I didn't have any complaints the last time I used them. If you don't have any issues with your purchase or questions about a certain article of clothing then you may be just fine. I however bought a size 10 dress, they don't give you a great description of the thing you're buying. There is basic chest measurement and length. This dress I purchased at a size 10 said 24" bust, I googles the actual company of the dress to get more accurate measurements and it definitely should've fit me, so trusted the actual size chart and ordered it. I had to pay $5.99 for shipping and the shipping was incredibly slow. It finally came, I tried it on and I couldn't even zip it up. I know I gained some weight but a size 10 definitely shouldve fit. To return it I would've had to pay $8.99, so opted for the credit and free return. It took over 15 days for them to finally process my credit. I go back on to order another dress and im just seeing the sizing is very off. How could a size 12 have a 30" bust? Every dress I looked at had weird measurements. I wanted to ask a question about a certain dress, so i don't make the same mistake twice, but you can't. You can email them but it takes a few days for a response. I don't have a few days for a response, I need a dress for a wedding. Anyway I did order one, no idea if it will fit and not even sure it will arrive before the wedding. Very disappointed in the customer service and will never use them again.
I tried to return an item I bought. There was no way to talk to an agent. No phone number or email. They said to do chat, but the chat only generated canned responses that did not address my problem.
I have filed a complaint with my credit card company.
It is a flat out lie, that you get a free return shipping label to return unwanted or items that don't fit! They make it sound that easy, which it should be, but instead they make you buy a return label for 8.99 and then you ship it out and wait for a refund that never shows up. Or you have to pay return shipping yourself and wait forever for the refund! It's such a hassle that you end up just keeping the stuff you don't want! They are a dishonest company and I don't recommend doing business with them. Plus the clothes cost as much as new clothes. It says right on the sign up page that you can return anything with the free label, which is a huge reason many sign up. But that is false. Beware!
When I placed a rather large order, I made sure my address was updated before placing it. They sent it to an old address anyway and are telling me they will only refund my money if the package happens to get returned. I have no way to get the package returned when they left it on a porch somewhere. Fed ex said they would have to request for the package to be picked back up and taken to the right address. That is what they should have done.
They lie on the website about how long it will take to ship your order. When you reach out to customer service, they lie multiple times about when they will contact you with a resolution. Dismal and pathetic.
They just happen to have no record of the most expensive items I sent them. I took photos of everything luckily but they still gave me pennies for some of my lost items and told me too bad for the rest. Stay away.
I am a first time seller here on TU! A pair of my True religion jeans sold on their site for 58.99 and I made $15, TU gets more than 50 percent of the earnings! I am selling my high end items on Mercari or Posh, at least they allow you to set your own prices! Oh yeah, they set the price extremely low only to make all of the money! NOT for me at all! BE AWARE BEFORE YOU SELL HERE!
I ordered a cross body purse this was the details that was provided by Thred-Up

This was not leather at all started peeling off within 24hours. I tried contacting Thred-Up and got no response. Very Disappointed! Took a picture after I took the purse out and started to peel.
If you want to make 5-10 cents on the dollar on selling your clothes, this is the place for you. AWFUL!
Will not let you browse unless you give them your email. No right to my privacy just to look. No store does this, why should you be so privileged. I will not shop nor recommend this company
I ordered over 650$ worth of merchandise after the 30% new signup bonus after spending 3 hours picking out stuff they canceled my order the next day i contacted them no reason given their response we dont have to give a reason it is false advertisement contact your attorney general in your state class actions are following so get on board since it is owned by Walmart they were caught in the 90s with David glass(deceased) ceo changing tags from made in central America to made in usa during the buy America campaign and got caught same thing here deception at its best fraud is fraud and should be shut down immediately contact google to have them removed if you have had the same problem. I had to give a star before it would post but it is truly no stars
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
