ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I personally own 4 businesses and I've never seen a business that does NOT want to sell anything. They would rather kill their own sales than make a profit. I'm not sure what kind of moron came up with that, but any knowledgable business owner would fire them immediately.
You are very limited to what you can add to your cart. (They do this in a poor attempt to create urgency and pressure to buy right then.) But if you try to compromise and just add to favorites so that you can buy everything you want into multiple transactions it's also limited.
And even worse it doesn't actually warn you. Instead, it will continue to let you add to your favorites while just automatically deleting things when it gets full when no warning. Then to top it off, their categories are poorly sorted so you have no choice, but to go through pages trying to find what you're looking for only for them to turn around and delete them from your list, wasting your time.
Then you have the audacity to delete things off my list? They would rather have items sit and collect dust for months or years instead of just allowing people to conveniently buy. The joke's on them. I, and many others who have had this issue, will be more than happy to take their business elsewhere.
Awful Awful condition of shorts. These shorts should have been thrown away. This company should go out of business. Don't buy. I'm on my way to garbage disposal.
This is an update to my original review of ThredUP. After over 8 days of waiting, worrying about my package, and contacting at least 5 customer service reps; ThredUP notified me that my package was lost and they issued me a full refund. I am satisfied with my getting my refund. I am not satisfied with the dirt poor shipping and handling. I spent hours searching for those clothes and I really wanted them! Wasted time! I will no longer patronize this business. ThredUP doesn't seem like a competent nor efficiently-run company. I definitely don't recommend ordering from them if you are counting on receiving your package by a certain date. I have given them an extra star for refunding me quickly.
I am very NEW customer of thredUP. My very first order was on Saturday, September 18. I decided to try thredUP based on the TV commercials, a few YouTube reviews, and the prices I saw while browsing Google shopping. I wish I had found this website prior to ordering from them, then I most likely wouldn't have gone through with my order. I desperately needed a capsule wardrobe of good quality work clothing for new job starting Monday, September 27, but I don't have a large budget. Since shipping time was very sensitive, I was very careful to only select items from my home warehouse which is supposed to be located in a city only an hour's drive from where I live. On Monday, September 20, thredUP sent an email notifying me that my order had been shipped and was on it's way. I was hopeful! There was also a link to get the tracking info. After clicking the tracking info, I was taken to their shipper's (Veho) website and a message reads, "Your order is still in thredUP's possession." It didn't really alarm me on Monday, because they had just "shipped" the order; but now it's almost Friday (4 days later) and the shipper's website still says, "Your order is still in thredUP's possession." There is no estimated delivery date at all. I have now spoken with two thredUP reps via chat. One rep blamed the shipper for forgetting to update the tracking info and to wait 5 more days for an update. Another rep said they would investigate into my order further and update me in 24-48 hours. I also contacted Veho, the shipper, and their rep told me the package is indeed still in thredUP's possession. I don't know who to believe, but I just want my clothes NOW. This is a disaster. ThredUP seems so unprofessional and unreliable. This makes me extremely wary of ever ordering from thredUP again. I most likely won't recommend them to anybody else either.
Just wanted to pipe in with my recent experience with the ThredUp subscription box.
Was not a fan of the first box I recieved. I felt items were over priced and also found quality of the items to be lacking.
I cancelled my subscription box from ThredUp before my shipping date, only to find out that they shipped my next box anyway and also refused to refund me shipping cost. Customer service took days and days to respond to me. I am not pleased.
I returned an item I bought (which smelled of the previous owner's perfume). I received an email saying the refund had been made but I never received it. I discovered it's sitting in my account as a credit. Tried to get in touch with their customer service - which is only a chat function - and my question went into a black hole - no status message, no "you're x in the queue", just crickets. I will never buy from them again. Gave two stars because the return actually process worked well.
First time ordering and after over a week I'm informed my pkg which was only clothes was damaged and couldn't be delivered. I chatted with csr and was informed the seller said it was best not to reship. What could be so bad to clothes to where they could not be shipped again? I'll stick to posh mark where I've had excellent service since day one. Good luck folks
Stay clear of this company. Their customer service is horrible. They threw out a new Michael Kors bag of mine with no explanation other than "We cannot disclose this information". I have seen other similar stories about valuable bags. They also use incorrect descriptions on their clothes. I have received Items that were described as new, but were almost unwearable.
They offer a " up to 50% off coupon for new customers that sign up. I signed up …entered the code and barely got 5%. When I messaged them I just got a generic response without explaining anything. Wow.
I Ordered a goody Box and the items came and I picked a couple of things that I liked and so when I want to go return the items my mail people would not let me return them so I tried to get ahold of thread up and they would just not answer me for weeks I'm tried to get ahold of a real person because I'm talking to a bot the whole time And they would just end conversation so I could never get ahold of an actual person and so eventually I was charged $200 for things that I was trying to return because I couldn't get a real person to talk to and when I did finally get ahold of them they still just said no too late and ended the conversation. Never using this app again.
They canceled all my orders after I spent over 1000; it was done out of spite after I sent an email when they canceled my first order. They have no phone service to call and over priced items. Horrible company, you would be better off to shop with a different company
I am highly disappointed! I got my items today and the items smell bad and look nothing like the pictures. Its clear they try to make photos look good to sell the items but this is definitely being dishonest. I have never in my life been so disappointed in getting my products. I will never shop at this place again.
Overall, I really like ThredUp, but have been so frustrated with their shipping lately. I love how environmentally conscious they are and they have a huge selection. However, their shipping times are just flat out ridiculous. For purchases, expect at least two weeks for delivery (which does not include the time it takes ThredUo to process the order before shipping), and sometimes even longer than that. For returns, expect up to a month. Perhaps they should renegotiate their deal with FedEx because given how quickly other companies are able to process and ship out products, ThredUp falls way short.
Basically, shop at least a season in advance because that's about how long it takes to deliver a package to you.
**Screenshot is of a package that I purchased on August 17th. The expected delivery date still shows as Sept. 9th. It is now Sept. 14th and there are literally no updates on where the package is after almost a MONTH after purchasing. Completely ridiculous.
Do not use this online clothing store if you want anything delivered in less than 4-5 weeks. I ordered shoes from threadUP three weeks before a wedding thinking that they would be here on time - the wedding happened last week and I still don't have the shoes.
In the past I've had some good purchases and some not-so-great ones - I highly suggest zooming in on product photos to detect wear and tear. It looks like some people have had some terrible issues with smell and cleanliness though.
And I would never try to make money off of sending clothes to this site. Like many resell shops it looks like they will pay an extremely minimal amount for anything that you send them.
No place on their website to give a specific review on my purchase - probably lots of good things there but these beautiful trousers stink! Ill try washing them in strong soap!
I ordered what I thought was a goody box, only it turned out to be a garbage box. The items inside were OLD, covered in dirt and dog hair. A pair of pants had noticeable wear and pilling. I didn't like any of it, so I returned the box. It sat at the warehouse 2 weeks for processing, and when they finally cleared it - they charged me for the MOST EXPENSIVE item saying I kept it.
I reached out on chat and they only offered me a refund after I told them I was disputing with my credit card company. They claim 'Our warehouse teams sometimes make mistakes when processing returns.'
I think it's because someone called them out them in their shady business practices and they hoped they wouldn't get caught.
Avoid them at all costs!
The seasons will have changed several times and your kindergartner will be headed for college by the time you receive your order. Still haven't received my order. Shop other online consignment shops... but DO NOT purchase from Thred-Up. Cannot rate their customer service because There Is None!
I ordered items nine days ago. They have still not shipped. After going back-and-forth with a customer service rep who is disinclined to tell me what to expect, she finally explained I would probably not get my items until 3 to 4 weeks after I ordered them. They have a new bundling shipping model which takes time because it moves things from warehouse to warehouse before ship to the customer. I ordered something and it still has not shipped nine days later. I will likely receive a shipping email in the next seven days. After I receive that email it can take up to 12 days. I have been a customer for years and years. I stopped using them for a while because shipping was so slow and hoped that it would be better. It is, in fact worse. They used to be a stand out because they were the only online consignment and they had a very good filter system for shopping. Now they have competitors who have the same attributes, but ship much faster. No reason to stay with Thredup.
I have had pretty good experiences until recently. The measurements have all but disappeared I am guessing because they were often not very accurate so now they just don't give them to you. It's a win win for Thred up but now for me.
I have found out that some things are not available to everyone only the ones they have selected. I tried to look at some jeans under my acct and the brand was not available. I looked at the name brand under my daughter's acct and lo and behold there were tons of that brand of jeans. Shame on you Thred up for deciding for me what I can and can not buy!
Not everyone gets the same price? What? Same as above prices are different on the ads than they are under my acct. Shame on you Thred up for not offering me the same discount. Oh and yes I am 100% sure it was the same thing because there was only one like it. Not a popular brand. GRRR I am not sure I will continue to be a customer.
I have sold many items on second hand sites so I thought I'd give this a try thinking it would be a bit more high end. WRONG! Sadly, I had saved all of my higher priced items: Michael Kors, Coach, etc. sent them to Thread Up in March, heard nothing until July when I received an email stating that my item has sold and paymeny was $2.38. They listed prices on all of my items VERY low. Then when sold, they apparently can take ANY % they so choose leaving the seller with a payout (mine anyway) from 22%-12%. NO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! There are WAY better companies out there. Poshmark, Tradsey, etc. So sad to see these items go not they will not give them back to me.
I never write reviews and believe this is my first in 50 years. First, I love ThredUp and hunting for bargains! I have used this service for years and spent way too much over the years! The issue is there is no way to talk to anyone live as seems they do not have a Call Center. The only way to communicate is through Twitter as used to be able to chat on their website. The other major issue is their change in shipping as one order can take up to 2 weeks with absolutely no way to expediate. There is a new change as they ship from multiple warehouses and consolidate and then ship your package which adds many days/weeks. This is a new policy and have reached out to them many times over Tweeter (unbelievable) and have been told there is no way to expediate. I am certain this new shipping and consolidating decreases their cost however the delay is not good. I have (2) orders I would like to receive by this Friday/Sat at the latest and no way to do this. Needs major improvement and look at customer salinification.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
