I had accidentally booked a flight on Orbitz I had already booked on Expedia (they own orbitz by the way). I used the cancel trip button on orbitz, thinking I was cancelling m trip. This was done immediately. I thought my trip had been cancelled, but they never received the cancellation. I called 2 days later and was told I would have to pay $400 in flight cancellation fees. I explained what happened and they insisted I have to pay. So, they are making me pay flight cancellation fees for a flight I'm actually still booked on. Same flight, same place, same time.
I can't understand why they wouldn't give a long time customer of their services a break with this. Why would I buy 2 flight at the same time to the same place? Why did they not get the cancellation? Very poor customer service, very hard to understand the people I was talking to. I'm never using this site or any affiliates again. I'd rather book myself directly through airlines and hotels now. This headache and dent in my pocket is not worth the hassle
I had a credit I needed to use. I was forced by the terms and conditions to only fly on the same airline and in the same class seating " I was in premium class" I saw that the fairs on their website were cheaper but was not allowed to book the cheaper basic seats and even had to pay over a $200 difference to cover the difference. I never got my tickets / booking emailed to me so had to call Orbitz, after a 2 hour phone call he finally found our booking and despite paying a difference on top of my credit to sit in the same seats the booking was made for the Basic seats, so I essentially paid to downgrade! This makes no sense at all! In fact this is super crazy and per their own rules and regulations let's remember I was not allowed to book basic seats and had to pay the difference for premium that I was required to re book! Why did I pay to downgrade?! After hours on the phone I was told I would get a call back within 72 hours after they review the recording to see if I agreed to pay more to downgrade to Basic, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! Terrible experience I will never use them again! EVER!
Orbitz - The Perfect Bait and Switch
I know that who ever is reading this is either trying to research whether to book through Orbitz or they already have been scammed. If you have been scammed, read this so that you don't feel alone. If you are researching, you are fortunate, as you still have a chance to not get robbed. Here is my story:
I purchased through Orbitz 4 airline tickets from LAX to the east coast (and back). I did so one month prior to the flights. During the reservations portion of the online application, I was shown the available seating and selected seats for the whole trip. However, two days prior to the departure, I tried to confirm the flights and seating and was shocked to learn that my seats weren't reserved. When I called Orbitz, they forced me to pay an additional $400 to "upgrade to available seating". This is a bait and switch to the T.
Since I was already committed to hotels to the tune of over $3000, I had no choice but to pay the extortion amount of $400.
First I reserved this car through Orbitz and the total was $162 then when I actually picked up the car it was going to be $534 and after I drop the car off and got back to the States 4 days later they charged a $200 deposit for a total of $734. When I called and asked they said," you signed for $534 we can't charge any more than that. " First they said they would credit the deposit back during the next billing cycle then by the end of that conversation they said, no they didn't owe me any money back. Then they just acted like they couldn't understand my English all together so I hung up and called the corporate office in Mississippi. I spoke to a woman who assured me that she would file a complaint and somebody would get back up with me. 5 days later I hadn't heard from anybody so I called again and filed another complaint with someone else, never heard from her either. It's been 2 weeks since I dropped the car off no one has bothered to call me back and they have not returned my $200 deposit. So I've paid $734 for a rental car that I was told would be $162 before I went to pick it up. I should have read the reviews before I book the car. This place is a nightmare, they're frauds and scam artists. If Orbitz doesn't know any better in advance that this is the way this place runs they shouldn't be using them on their website as an option.
I had a terrible experience with Orbitz. I contacted Orbtiz to rent a vehicle in Calgary. You have to reserve a vehicle first which I did. Then I read Orbitz's Car Rental Policy page including the Rules and Restrictions but I did not see anything pertaining to me. So I booked my vehicle and pre-paid for the rental. When I arrived in Calgary I was told that my car rental company was Routes car Rental and that their office was not on airport property. I had to arrange for a shuttle to take me to their office. When I arrived at the office I was told they could not rent me a vehicle because I was over the age of 74! But I had a valid driver's licence! They refused so I had to return to the airport to find another vehicle. All other car rentals informed me that they did not have such a policy just Routes! When I returned to Winnipeg I asked Orbitz for a refund but they refused. They said I should have read the page on Rules and Restrictions. I told them I had but did not see anything. They said I should have opened the link from the section saying Additional Charges or Restrictions May Apply For Drivers Under 25? I said why would I read this section when it doesn't apply to me!. I am not under the age of 25. They continued to refuse to give me a refund. I think this is terrible customer relations and I would not recommend renting anything from Orbitz again. I am totally disgusted and disappointed that I had to pay for a service I did not receive. They advertise free cancellation but they were the ones who cancelled my rental! Seems like a scam to me!
They didn't email me my flight was canceled, the airline said they didn't have my email to tell me but I signed up with orbits with an email so why would the airline not have it? Terrible system.
I usually always book threw Hotels.com, but this time Orbiz had the room cheaper so I decided to give them a try. My plans did change so I couldn't make it to the hotel on the scheduled date. I tried to call to inform Orbiz but couldn't get an answer so I had to wait until the start of the business day. Only to have gone threw 3 reps that wouldn't even consider calling the hotel to try and rearrange the dates. I was even willing to pay for for the extra night. Basically, they wouldn't negotiate just stated since I didn't make it they cancelled it and I couldn't get my money back. They also kept stating that the hotel was responsible for keeping my booking fees. I contacted the hotel and they stated that they do charge a one night cancellation fee. So if they charge one night, where is the other two nights I paid for go? I asked Orbiz. Yeah, they keep it. Although they could refund it but they choose not to because it's a company that had its own best interest in mind. Which is not the mentality at Hotels.com. They always no matter what try to get you a refund or reschedule or whatever to make sure YOU the consumer are on top at the end. I can't be upset with Orbiz for their policy you have some companies/ corporations that take and every now and then you have companies/ corporations that really cares about you the consumer and I promise you this is not one of those caring companies/corporations. If you are absolutely sure you will make your planned trip go with them, I guess. But if you understand that sometimes life happens. Go to Hotels.com
Orbitz is terrible and impossible to cancel even with coronavirus. They will not answer and keep hanging up. I have spent 2 days and about400 minutes on hold to be hung up on. DO NOT book with orbitz
Reserved a car online thru Orbitz. Itinerary states to pick up car at USAV car rental. Spend (1.5 hrs) here and due to complications I ended up not renting car. The next day, Orbitz charged me $132 for insurance and USAV charged me a an unknown service of $25. That same day, I wrote Orbitz online customer service to explain situation, look up email confirmation, itinerary #, etc and to request a refund of both charges (20 min). Frustrated and With no response after 3-days, I phoned Orbitz rep who informed me that the reservation should have been automatically canceled without charges if car was not picked up. Unfortunately, we were cut off before he could assist me further (15 min). I called back and had to explain the issue again. This time the Orbitz rep placed me on hold while she contacted USAV to verify that I did not rent with them. Then she informed me that she had to send an emai request to the "on-line team" to process the Orbitz insurance and this would take 2-4 days. She further stated that I had to call the USAV supervisor to resolve the $25 charge. As I waited while she composed her letter, I though to myself, Why do I have to follow up? Orbitz does business with USAV and should do the follow up. I also thought, Why can't I contact the "on-line team" directly to expedite my refund? I expressed my concerns so she had to revise her email to also follow up with USAV. I was quite upset at this point so I was offered a $25 coupon for my next visit which I declined. I told her that I did not intend to use ORBITZ in the future. (33 min). Rating 2: The phone representatives were courteous
I had booked a flight from Madison, Wi to Seattle, Wa in September. Plan was to leave Madison on Dec. 22nd and be with my daughter and grandchildren in Seattle for Christmas. I received a confirmation email from Orbitz on Sunday Dec. 20,2015, confirming the flight. So, I showed up at the airport on Dec. 22,2015, and was told I no longer had a flight. American Airlines told me that Orbitz had switched me to United. The United flight had left sometime around 8 AM and there were no more flights. United told me that Orbitz had canceled me on the flight. Subsequently, I spent about 3.5 hours on the phone with Orbitz, crouched in a bent position because there was no where to sit, trying to find a way to get to Seattle. Orbitz just continued to blame ME for my not having a flight, saying they had emailed me in October telling me my flight had been changed. Wrong. Orbitz emailed me in October telling me my flight on American had been moved from 1:30 PM to 12; 30 PM on Dec. 22nd. Nothing else. And I have all the emails to prove this. I was devastated that I couldn't get to Seattle for this long-planned-for Christmas celebration. Ultimately, I left the airport with no resolution, just blame of me, went home, and spent the next 2 days attempting to get resolution from Orbitz. Nothing. My sister then joined in attempting to get something from Orbitz. Orbitz just continued to blame me. And, then, they blamed United. Suffice it to say, there has been no resolution. Christmas with my family was ruined. I will NEVER use Orbitz again and I highly recommend no one else use Orbitz again.
I booked a vacation package with orbitz for a thanksgiving trip to Cancun, mexico. They switched my flight, it is a one stop flight, they changed one flight one day later the original date, while the second flight still the old date, means when we take the first flight, the second fligh has been long gone. Such a simple questions, it took me and my husband lots of hrs holding on the line and kept getting same answer: they have contact the fligh company, within 48 hrs will give a response. Then either we don't have any response or same email notice our flight has been changed.
Last time, I insisted to speak a supervisor, the guy called Mirk, won't gave me the last name. I on the phone with lots of holding up to 3 hrs, he promised me to have a resolution within 48 hrs, and give me a case number, but results are the same, no information for 5 days already. Now need another couple hrs holding...
DO NOt USE THIS $#*! COMPANY, full of lie! JUST a SCAM,!

I have used this site to buy plane tickets. Never had an issue and I can now earn some type of rewards for booking through them.
You will never be able to unsubscribe. Use a dummy address or stay way. They will send multiple junk emails every day.
There are so many travel comparison sites. I used to use orbitz, now I might grab it out of an add banner...
Have good experience with Orbitz. No problem at all. Definitely a go-to site for me when shopping for airline tickets.
Thrifty Rental Car company cancelled my reservation most probably because they were running low on cars and decided the could make more money renting it to someone else.
I booked it through Orbitz-which I shall NEVER used again. The only way I found out my reservation had been cancelled is because I called Orbitz to change the pick up time. They admitted that the reservation had not been cancelled by me through their site so the only way it could have been cancelled was by the local franchise.
Orbitz called Thrifty and they basically said "tough"! They offered to give me the difference between what I paid at another rental company. But no apology and no explanation as to why they cancelled.
Getting some money wasn't the point. The point is I made a reservation for a car through a booking site and neither Thrifty or Orbitz would take responsibility for the action. I had to spend a lot of time complaining to no avail. I had to scramble last minute to get a car-and at a hight price.
I STRONGLY urge you NOT to use Orbitz nor Thrifty as they don't stand behind their reservations. Book with them and maybe you have a car... maybe you don't!

Orbitz (Expedia Group) scams people. DO NOT USE ORBITZ! I have been trying to get the refund for the cancelled flight back in 2020 due to COVID 19. Since, their excuses and stories for why they can't refund me or validate a voucher have been changing. They first blamed the airline company, then they said the voucher has been expired (the voucher they issues was not usable hence I am still fighting for my money back). Now they tell me the airline directly refunded me already, which is not true because the airline company emailed me with a statement saying that they NEVER transfer a refund directly to customers because the price of a ticket fare for refunds, penalties or fees are calculated by travel agencies. The last response from Orbitz I just received is to check in with my bank because that is the "best place to address my concern." People purchase tickets online with credit cards, not with bank transfers. Orbitz's agents must be hired and paid for being dumb or not caring at all for complicated matters. Why would I check with my bank? The airline company informed me last year that Orbitz collected the refund on Feb. 13,2021 and Orbitz refuses to refund me or issue a voucher that I can use. E-Dreams (I also had another booking through E-Dreams in 2020) took my case seriously and refunded me 100% months ago whereas Orbitz has stolen my money and tells me to check in with my bank. Orbitz DOES NOT HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY ONLY SUCK MONEY OUT OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.
I purchased travel insurance. My husband got hurt and I tried canceling the flight online, they canceled insurance but not the flight, they keeped flight money.
The hotel reservation I placed with them went the way I expect WITH some help of customer service. The price wasn't cheap as I hoped to be but availability of the rooms is in wider range
I have recently purchased a non-refundable Lufthansa ticket for 3 adults from Brazil to Japan, via Frankfurt. Orbitz did not mention that seats reservation are paid with Lufthansa. More than that, the site accepted my seats reservations for all legs of my trip. I have a print of my reservation with seats reserved and a BIG advice: "your reservation is booked and confirmed. There is no need to call us". Surprisingly, a few days latter I entered in the Lufthansa site and NO SEATS WERE RESERVED! The company says that the seats were initially reserved, as I said but, as NO PAYMENT WAS DONE those reservations were cancelled! In other words, I´ve paid for a non-refundable product and received a different one. To keep what I paid for, I have to pay an additional fee to the airliner Otherwise, I can just risk a very long trip in family without seats reservation. Very bad experience with the duo Orbitz/Lufthansa. Just one more comment: contacting Lufthansa in Brazil, Barbara (the Lufthansa employee) said that I should not have used Orbitz, because only their web site informs everything properly
