January 18, 2024

They are a total SCAM - Charged me $2400 but no ticket or booking number - AND it does not show on their system!
They are a total SCAM! Beware of using them or buying tickets on their site - no matter what you might think you will be saving on tickets. I used to book through Orbitz for all my family tickets for the past 8 years, but in the last 3 years or so they have gone steadily from very lousy to downright SCAM. The past two years I had legs of my son's flights cancelled, without notification, and when my son takes the first leg of the flight he finds out the the middle or last leg of the flight was cancelled months ago! He would get stuck at the airport trying to figure a way to get home for the holidays, The chat support just says CONTACT THE AIRLINE - so NO SUPPORT Whatsoever.

THE DISASTER THAT COMPLETELY BLEW MY MIND WAS YESTERDAY, THEY CHARGED ME $2600 for four family members tickets to Greece. Charge goes through, My credit card charge alert on my mobile verifies the transaction (6 transactions in total with the extra baggage from Aegean Airlines). The window takes an unusually long time to verify the transaction (goes through 3D Secure and is verified) Window closes and I think that I an done buying the tickets - WRONG

I never get an email confirmation, and I cannot see my booking on my account. Once I start panicking and try to contact them the horror story unfolds - YOU CANNOT get through any of their phone numbers without the itinerary number - which I did NOT get. Spent 2 hours trying all options,
Then comes the live chat support - SCAM UNFOLDING - the chat agent (Jojo L) said that there is NO record of my airline tickets booking. AT FIRST SHE SAID SHE SAW A TRACE OF THE CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION BUT THEN SHE SAID THERE IS NO RECORD. She said I should contact Aegean Airlines, which I did, but there was no ticket booked on their system because the transaction was done through Orbitz, So Aegean said I should go back to Orbitz, which I did, and the agent again said there was nothing she can do because there was no record of the flight itinerary
Meanwhile $2400 just disappeared from my account and got charged to my account. THEY did the transaction through Orbitz system, at least they could give me the transactin details so I could go back to m y bank or airline. NOTHING, NADA They were as cold and bad as they come. TOTAL SCAMMERS! NEVER BOOK WITH THEM AGAIN! You are far better of buying directly from the airline sites.

Paid reservation is lost and when hotel contacts Orbit they choose to text me a website link
September 30, 2021

The day before the title happened: I had booked with Extended Stay thru Orbit (also paid in advance) and arrived to find out the place had no vacancy. I returned home and put in for a refund and still needing a room, booked the next night with MyPlace and when I arrived they had no word of my coming. So I happened to have my confirmation page from Orbit right there to show the hotel, so they contacted Orbit to straighten things out. Orbit rather than address the matter then, instead chose to text me a link to their help page on their web site.
My hero. Not.
How much lamer can you be? Well I just told MyPlace to rent me a room (thus now having paid a second time) which they were happy to do. I don't blame MyPlace, and I never put in for a refund for the second rip-off because frankly my time is worth more and i had already wasted plenty of it on Orbits mickey-mouse approach to business.
I would save you, the reader, my frustration.
Was it worth it to save $5? Or $15? Total lost: about $200.
I didn't do anything out of the ordinary, and I am not savvy enough to upload an image but here is what they wrote me:
And all Orbit had to do was look up my history and see I have never put in for any refund for any reason, why would i lie about this one particular situation?

Dear Steve,

I spoke with Extended Stay America Suites Kansas City Overland Park Quivi and they decided to follow the terms and conditions of the booking and not issue a refund. They had stated that you were tagged as No show

Sincerely,

Catherine R
ILOCrosete
Orbitz Customer Support Team

Of course I don't have proof I showed up. Why would I? Until now i have never had a reason to think I would need proof: let alone that my word would not be taken on merit alone. Would be different if I had any sort of history of this.

Then came the next day when my reservation didnt show up at MyPlace but Orbits had the gall to send me an email asking for my review of the hotel.

I'm sorry but my time is worth more than the $100 I got cheated. To chase after something from a company that has as much as called me a liar already... when there is only evidence to the contrary if any at all.
Because at some point you have to say... you had your chance. Orbits had theirs, I'm not wasting more of my time to fix their mistakes but I will warn others what to expect.

Tip for consumers:

Don't count on them to be either competent or helpful.

Do not book with orbitz! Terrible customer service
March 4, 2021

DO NOT USE ORBITZ TO BOOK FLIGHT!

Cannot believe my experience. I booked a flight with orbitz on may 26,2020 for a week in April 2021 for my moms 70th birthday I wanted to take her to Ireland. Because of the pandemic and my moms preexisting condition we decided in august 2020 to push the flight to the following year.

I have called every month since then to make sure I would be able to change the flight. I also paid more when booking to confirm i could change the flight.

I was told to wait till March 2021 so that it was closer to date and "would not at all be a problem"

I called yesterday to change flight and Was told very rudely by Ariel that the flight couldn't be changed my only option was to cancel. They Could care less they were going to be loosing the cost of 3 flights (over $2000) and doesn't try to offer me any help with finding new flight or rebooking. Terrible sales person. Ariel told me the supervisor would be calling me back never did. Doubt Ariel even told supervisor to Call me.

Spoke with supervisor this morning John. He told me my options were to cancel and rebook after April passed.

Cannot believe this I paid more money for my flight for the insurance, I called every month (spoke to a lot of misinformed employees). It's is my moms birthday and the date really matters so she can be in Ireland for her birthday and this booking agent could literally care less in helping me. Also offered to pay more money if needed. I will NEVER be using orbitz again in my travel. I will make sure to tell everyone I know how terrible this experience was. Contacting corporate directly and in every way I can. DO NOT USE ORBITZ

I contacted United directly and a very nice woman helped me, credited my account with a discounted promo code. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE AT UNITED DIRECTLY! ( TERRIBLE customer service from Orbitz)

Tip for consumers:

Don’t use orbitz ever!!!!

OBLIVIOUS ORBITZ
June 30, 2020

Absolute worse NIGHTMARE come true. Orbitz is HORRIBLE/HORRENDOUS/INCOMPETENT! Save yourself the headache and DO NOT USE Orbitz! You will be left stranded with absolutely no help or competent representative from front line to leadership level to help. Take a guess how I spent my 35th Birthday on June 19,2020 at 6am?!?!:: NIGHTMARE ALERT:: Alone in the middle of Newark Airport missing every flight to Tampa because OBLIVIOUS ORBITZ' ticketing department Never issued me a ticket after flight was booked, confirmed and payed for WEEKS IN ADVANCE!.-What I thought was going to be a special birthday shared with my family in Tampa turned out to be a true nightmare as I'm an hour ahead of schedule before my flight starts boarding at 7:14am and as I check in with the airlines they informed that their system shows that I have not been issued a ticket and the travel agency (HORRIBLE ORBITZ) canceled my reservation! I immediately jump on the phone with HORRENDOUS ORBITZ and stood on the phone with the most incompetent representative for OVER 2 HOURS! YES, 2 HOURS on the phone with a representative, missing every single flight leaving out of that airport. She could not find my reservation after completely giving her the itinerary information OVER and OVERRRR again. Then during the second hour of the phone call she finds out that the ticketing department at OUTRAGEOUS ORBITZ neglectfully never issued me a ticket but took my payment! HOW INSANE! I have spoken to 5 representatives from front line level to lastly a woman named "Elizabeth" in "corporate" on June 20,2020 who kept me on hold for 1 hour and 45 minutes to then disconnect the call. ORBITZ YOU GUYS ARE HORRIBLE AND NOT ONLY STOLE MY MONEY; YOU STOLE MY PRECIOUS FAMILY TIME AND MY BIRTHDAY AWAY FROM ME. I Suggest someone from corporate get in contact with me immediately. ORBITZ itinerary number#*******301. AGENT: NT Booking REF: P928Q7. Hopefully you have enough competency to look up my contact with the info listed. FOLKS DO NOT USE THESE INCOMPETENT IMBECILES UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE STRANDED IN AN AIRPORT FOR TWO HOURS WITH A CANCELED TRIP AND ORBITZ TAKING YOUR MONEY FOR IT.

I WILL UPDATE THIS POST.

Horrible customer service
June 23, 2020

Hello Orbitz. I never write review but this time i will because your customer service is horrible. Am going to book with again never. Am going to tell everyone not to book with you definetely. Here is my story. Im Olga. We booked tickets to Tampa. On june 10th orbitz sent me email to say my returning flights hours was change. I looked and said that okay as it give me one hour between each flight. On june 21st we came to tampa airport we trying to print tickets we can not. We came to counter and american employee tells us our flight was changed call orbits. I spent 6 hours on phone. I was crying, very upset, stressful. I have 4 year old with me. My sister works in CICU in hospital needs to be at work. Orbitz employee tells me that i should call airlines and talk with them. She is not solving issue. I talk to manager and she is not helping either. There is no flights to seattle or spokane until 26 th of june. I called alaska and alaska said that they notified orbitz on 15 th, and i was on 21 st at airport. Should orbitz notified me. Yes they should. I bought tickets with them de should notify me.?! Yes they should. They notified me that hours was changed of flights but they did not notify me that it was cancelled. Cancellation is more important that changing hours. When i told this to 2nd manager, he did not submit orbitz mistake. He made me feel that it is my mistake and i should check with airlines directly everyday if my flight would be cancelled or not. If orbitz just notified i would have plenty of time to change flights in advance and not be on phone for 6 hours, stressing out, crying, my sister was stressing out. My child was hungry, tired. Should orbits treat customer like that? No. We trust orbitz buying tickets through you and they are blaming airlines. If i bought tickets through them yes i would blame them. They treat us horrible. Could not find any flights. Told me that they are not going to pay extra for flights if there is difference. Manager offered me ticket and told me to pay $1000 difference for each tickets to fly one way for each person. I said gave me refund. I wish i said that it beginning but i waste my health, my time, and they stressed us so much. Of coarse tickets is so expensive to buy on same day but they could get find us tickets as it was their mistake they should cover the expenses. I am hoping to get refund in 30 days. I will not recommend to use orbitz to anyone especially if u buy flights. Use expedia. Or buy directly with airline. Service is horrible. They treat their customers horribly. They stressed me so much. I am very sad with customer service. I will definetely tell my relatives who fly a lot, friends, coworkers not use your company.

Crooks, "plane" and simple.
March 2, 2020

It's taken me a bit to write this review mainly because I'm still hot in how this company can get away with straight up robbing people then hide behind nomenclature of a policy that no one knows about and is hidden on their website.

I recently was going to go on a long overdue Vacation and booked my flight through Orbitz. I had used them in the past and thought their services were good. Yep that's all changed now.

I work for the FED as a contractor and part of my job is maintaining qualifications to keep my credentials current and in good standing. Sometimes there might be a class or seminar that accepts contractors that will enhance my standing career wise with the FED. It is rare that this happens but more on this later as it factors in.

So I book my flight for some long overdue downtime. I choose to take the insurance option and pay the extra money in case I have to cancel or reschedule as my job with the FED can be demanding and it's happened before. A couple of days later after booking my flight my supervisors inform me that there is an opening for a training class that I've been trying forever to get a slot. Like I said it's rare this happens and it would best to delay the vacation and take the slot because who knows when the next opportunity will be?

So I agree and begin the process of canceling my flight and starting the insurance process to recoup my money which is a little less than a $1000 bucks. Now keep in mind I've booked this trip 6 weeks in advance and we're about 1 week after booking.

So of course Orbitz customer service hotline is in India - so it takes me about 2 hours of dropped calls, disconnections and language barriers to finally cancel my reservation. I inquire about the insurance clause and get told that's another number and company that I have to file a "claim" with. Are you serious? Why do I have to file a claim? That should be automatic with the cancellation! Orbitz had no problem taking my money on the website for the "insurance" option. But NO! I have to file...

So I start the process. Then this is where it goes all wrong. I have to file with AIG... fill out a very long and cumbersome form on line, submit, then "wait" for a decision. DECISION!?!?! FOR WHAT!?!?!

2 weeks go by and then I get an email that says that not only is the claim denied, but I will NOT BE GETTING A REFUND! What the hell is insurance for then!?!?! According to AIG "the reason stated is not covered by the insurance policy". BTW on Obritz website cancellation policies are not even MENTIONED.

Rounds of emails begin and still nothing. I get there should be a additional charge or fee for a cancellation... but complete forfeiture of full price of the ticket is completely unacceptable. That is why it's called INSURANCE. I should have gotten at least a partial from this at the very least, or been given the option to reschedule my flights. But no, nothing, nada, zilch.

So now I'm dealing with Orbitz on the matter and getting nowhere 6 weeks later. The flight and vacation dates has come and gone and not only am I bitter about the entire experience, Orbitz and AIG just stole a grand from me without blinking an eye. I might have well been held up at gun point in the street and it's taking everything I have not to write experlitives or swear on this review because I'm still hot, hot, hot about the whole thing.

False information and overcharging
September 3, 2019

I tried to change a ticket return date for a ticket booked with Orbitz and then told I would be charged more than quoted, found out even the original quoted price was higher than it should be, called to fix it and was told it would be fixed then when I asked for it in writing was told it would not be able to be fixed as previously stated.

1. *Changing the amount charged without authorization*: I authorized the change amount to be charged. I later complained that I was overcharged and then was told the change price actually went up. Orbitz stated prices sometimes changed, but I was never told that when I agreed and when I said I did not authorize it, they would not reverse the charge. You cannot change the price after it has been told and charged.

2. *Lowest price option*: The 1st agent I worked with said that she was
Looking for the lowest price option for the change that I requested. In
Fact, I found out later, a lower price option would have been to completely
Cancel the ticket and pay $130 then buy an entirely new ticket, as the fare
Did not go up at all and $130 is less than the $233 that I was charged (claiming a fare increase).
Additionally, I found out from the 2nd agent that the 1st agent actually
Canceled my return flight and rebooked it, meaning I paid much more than
Was necessary to change, the fault of the 1st agent. In fact, I have flown
On this airlines over 40 times per year for the last 2.5 years and have changed
Many tickets and never paid this much. I checked and they would not have
Charged me this much if I had bought and changed directly with them.

3. *Misinformation*: The 2nd agent I spoke to, after talking to ticketing,
Then told me that I could cancel the ticket for the $130 charge and the
Pending change fee would be canceled and I would be refunded the rest of my
Ticket (minus the $130 charge). I asked if she could put this in an email
As my recent experience with Orbitz I did not fully believe what I heard on
The phone. She then went off and came back with a different story, that the
Pending charge would still go through, that I would get a refund of the
Ticket + taxes, but still about $60 more than what she had just quoted me.
This is now the 2nd time I am told something by an agent to find out later
That it is not true.

Again, I am extremely disappointed by Orbitz and even more disappointed by
How they handled customer dissatisfaction, just saying that it is out of your hands and the airline sets the fees. If indeed this was the
Amount that the airlines would have charged me and you accurately quoted me the lowest price option, that would not be an issue, but I have seen that
Not to be the case.

Beware using Orbitz! Do your Homework!
May 9, 2018

I made reservations for a stay at Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun in Cancun through Orbitz for the dates Dec 17,2017 - Dec 22,2017. I realized immediately that the dates I chose were incorrect and called Orbitz. While making the reservation there was wording on one of the pages that said 48 hour cancel policy through Orbitz.

When I caught my error I called Orbitz and they said no problem just cancel the flights and call the resort and that it shouldn't be a problem. After Cancelling the flights, I called the next day and they told me they cannot cancel the room I would have to call the manager directly and that it should not be a problem. I cancelled the flights and called the resorts and the desk person told me I would need to call the manager and they were not there. I called 2 days in a row to next to catch the 48 hours and could not reach a Manager. I called Orbitz again and they called the resort and said they talked to their manager and the rooms could not be cancelled or changed. I asked about the 48 hour policy which was now expired and they told me that was for flights only and they conveniently failed to tell me this before the 48 hours was up. I cannot find the reference to this 48 policy anymore on their site. And to make it worse Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun has changed their policy to a 10 day cancellation notice... They still won't budge... Orbitz now claims there is a 24 hour cancellation policy only applicable to airfare when I most recently spoke to them on the phone.

I tried to re-book the flights and they were filled up and the only flight available was very expensive. I called the resort again before the booking date and asked for help. I asked if I could change the reservation dates and was told I could not. I asked for fewer days with a penalty and they would not work with me. I asked Orbitz to change the dates or charge me a penalty. Between them and the hotel they were completely unwilling to help in any way. They took my $2400 and gave me NOTHING in return.

Discover Card supports their "policy" and will not dispute the case. I have called them and gave them all of the supporting documents and still nothing. Love the card, had it for 23 years, probably cancelling it.

Be very cautious and do your homework. It is very disturbing that we as consumers have to do our homework on big companies that we blindly feel like we can trust. Since then I've googled and found a staggering number of issues very similar to my own.

Google your travel company before you buy and consider buying direct!

Do NOT book your travel with Orbitz
August 25, 2017

I used Orbitz for the first time to book a vacation for my family. I took their recommendation for the "luxury" hotel and accommodations ( it was advertised as a suite). The package I bought was for the hotel and airfare. Unfortunately I did not think to ask for the breakdown of cost between the airfare and hotel at the time. Note I was traveling with my spouse and three minor children. When we arrived at the hotel it was, to say the least, horrible. The air conditioning was not working (we were in a very hot climate), there were puddles on the floor from windows leaking, mold on the walls, the kitchen area was grimy, dirty, and appliances broken, the rest of the place was not clean and there was an inappropriate, poster sized picture on the wall by the door of a woman pulling her pants down showing her bare bottom. We complained to the hotel manager. He offered us another room but it wasn't any better. I called Orbitz and told them we were not going to stay there. I was in a foreign country with no place to stay and was transferred around Orbitz customer service, which was terrible. Also, after seeing this hotel I did not trust them to find me decent lodgings somewhere else. I called other hotels at my own expense, and found availability. After much delay/debate, Orbitz offered me a credit of only $1,700 for the hotel - my total bill with them was $6,300 for airfare and hotel. So that would mean my airfare was $4,600. The new hotel cost me $6K for two rooms for the week (last minute booking so expensive).
I didn't have much choice but to take the credit and go to the new hotel, thinking I would get in touch with Orbitz when I returned to make it right. I mentioned above that I was traveling with three minor children and we needed a decent place to stay. I checked online and found the same flights for $2K less than what I paid for them. I only searched for about 10 minutes to find better fares. I called United and confirmed the same prices I found were available at the time I booked.
When I returned home I called Orbitz customer service and was on hold/transferred around for hours. I asked for a full refund to cover the additional $6K I had to spend for the new hotel, but at the very least, a refund of $2K for the discrepancy in airfares I found. Orbitz was not helpful in the least. I received nothing and the customer service personnel, even when transferred to a supervisor, were not helpful and at times rude.
Please use this as a discretionary tale to not use Orbitz for your travel. Do not trust the hotels they recommend or what they have on their sites, and expect nothing in terms of customer service or remediation. They do not have the lowest airfares as advertised - quite the opposite. They do not check the hotels they recommend and customer service/remediation is non-existent.

They have lost a customer (they didnt seem to care) and I will tell as many as I can to warn them against using Orbitz for their travels.
