We booked a hotel in Raleigh NC. The hotel should have been condemned! It was nasty! The rooms floors were dirtier than the parking lot, it only had one stained towel, the walls had holes and names carved into it. Wires were strung across the room for power and cable. The toilet had not been cleaned and was disgusting and this is just a small amount of things we found and photo'd. I addressed the hotel manager and he did not even try to defend it, just offered a refund and Orbitz phone number to help get the refund.
I called Orbitz and the agent put me on hold for around 10 minutes. When she returned she said the they would only refund for 2 of the 3 days and that would take 10 business days. I asked her to help us book another room and allocate the funds to it and she said no and asked if she could help with anything else. YES! Please help me find another hotel, she refused! This is not the way to treat customers and this was my first and last time using Orbitz!
The following Monday, Orbitz did agree to a voucher for another hotel stay later for the day that was not refunded. Why could this not have been done while you abandoned me to start with? Needless to say it was not what I expected from someone as popular. Today it has been 14 days since they told me that my refund would take 10 days. Just more proof that they really don't care about us!
I learned that to cancel ANY component of a $4,000 flight/hotel/car package, my refund would amount to $100. Terms and conditions call for a prepayment penalty--I was fully prepared to have to pay a reasonable amount (even up to 50%!), but this was highway robbery. I WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER USE ORBITZ AGAIN... and I write this in the hope that others will learn from my very expensive mistake.
I have always used expedia but I thought I could try orbitz for once. BIG MISTAKE!
I booked a flight, with Air France on purpose, because I knew I might have to change my return date.
I double checked every detail of my reservation to make sure it would not say non-exchangeable anywhere. I even took the insurance, thinking it would help.
Not only the insurance is a joke (they ask for such precise requirements that very rarely you match them!)
AND - and that's definitely the worst - they happen to have a "second policy" that doesn't allow me to change dates with Air France.
Second policy that is not mentioned any where any how during purchase and they are not flexible or understanding. Their customer service is useless and the people on the phone are absolutely rude and couldn't care less!
I've been bouncing back and fourth between them for days now. Not mentioning the HOURS waiting on the phone between each person. When I asked for a manager, they left me on hold for an hour and I'm still at it.
And I'm still stuck with half a ticket I won't be able to use. I will never use orbitz ever again, they are not even that much cheaper from companies directly. I'd rather deal with Delta in the future!
The room I needed didn't book for the right date. I found myself stranded hundreds of miles from home, but Orbitz called the hotel and fixed the problem in less than thirty minutes.
I have been booking several hotels using orbitz
1. I came to Midway UT to Zermatt 5* hotel they gave me cheaper room then I ordered from orbitz. They did not even had a room I ordered replying that room was not assigned correctly
2. My wife and 3 kids went to California next day and got into Best Western Oceanside INN hotel and manager kicked them out to a street not even letting them to check in

My first call to a customer service -> "agent does not know even where she works" figuratively she does not understand an issue even after repeating it 5 times to her, have to talk to superviser
It looks like orbitz does not have any good relations with hotels and do not want any business to be repeatable
Another one star for this company (A zero if I could) which is a bait and attract scheme. I booked a room through Orbitz and did not receive an email regarding the price which was listed on line for $101.00. When I checked into a room, the hotel said that I would receive a bill through Orbitz and because I booked through them the hotel could not confirm the price. When I came home from my trip, I received a bill on my credit card for $194.88! Calling Orbitz, no one could speak English properly and I was told that the price goes up and down daily through them and the hotel that I booked. However, I called the hotel and they said that the room is offered by Orbitz for the low price at another date somewhere in never, never land future... and that the price quoted was NOT on the day that I wanted to stay! The hotel offered the AAA discount and Orbitz did not offer anything... saying that "Our prices already included the discounts!" They offered nothing. No refund, a real run around with nothing making any sense at all... mumble jumble by a foreign speaking agent. Bait and bill with misleading information to lure the customer into a false reservation. Like everyone else on this Orbitz site... beware of this company and be sure to leave your bad review and sooner or later the Better Business Bureau will stop this from happening to honest people. What a scam.
I do not recommend using Orbitz for your travels. The agents are unhelpful and it takes you over 1 hour to get anyone on the phone if you have any issues or troubles.

I GOT FOOD POISONING AND THIS STUPID AIRLINE DID NOT LET ME CHANGE MY FLIGHT TO THE NEXT DAY. I GOT TRIP PROTECTION HOWEVER THEY SAID THEY MIGHT NOT REIMBURSE ME THE $200 CHANGE FEE. AN ORBITZ REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THEY WILL CHARGE ME $200 PLUS THE FLIGHT FEE. RIDICULOUS. THIS WAS A MEDICAL ISSUE YET STILL HAVE TO TRAVEL FEELING SICK.

Advertised fares for flights with stopovers were $685 - the stopover happened to be appx 3.5hrs, so I opted for the $785 fare with a 2 hour layover as I had flown this leg before & chose not to put my daughter travelling alone on such an arduous journey. SOMEHOW - we were given the 3.5hr layover at the the higher price. Orbitz refused to stand behind the advertised prices and explicitly said there was NO GLITCH in the system... well, the glitch is there - and I am being charged for flights I am now being told never existed - so why would I spend the extra $100? This was my 2nd and LAST negative experience with Orbitz. There are plenty of other travel sites and apps or engines that can do a much better job...
Their "travel insurance" is a scam. You WILL lose your entire trip plus the travel insurance cost if you have to cancel. We can to cancel due to medical reasons and still couldn't get a refund.

Rented car with Orbitz - Started with Hertz and got switched to Greenmotion? Rental was for the UK, so paid for collision coverage with Orbitz and the P/U and drop-off locations were listed at London Heathrow Airport. Get to Hertz and no record of rental - FINE Print - Greenmotion. The collision coverage premium was not honored and additional charge of $116. Greeenmotion is not at LHR, but a 20 minute bus ride when there is a bus, there was no service - cab fare $36. Location is at closed Hotel due to COVID. Orbitz will not make adj. For double ins. Charge and fraud with listing Greenmotion at LHR.
On hold In India for over 3 hours. 3 customer service reps. Asked for someone in the United States. Never came back on the phone. I a not going to use them ever ever again.
I used the Orbitz automated system to book an early morning flight with United Airlines. When I recieved my confirmation it was not the flight I had chosen and take off was 12 hours later than I needed. I called customer service and they were very nice about cancelling the first flight and booking the flight I originally desired. Was given discounts and credits in consolation for my troubles. Was very pleased with the experience...
Upon checking my bank account I find three separate transactions for the same amount, two from United and one from Orbitz! I accepted the second charge would be for the cancelled flight and would be refunded shortly... The third charge is a mystery to me and is now causing NSF charges to my account because I'm just a working man supporting a disabled vet wife, and a young pregnant daughter on a budget.
After calling customer service twice on this matter I have come to the conclusion that I have to eat the NSF charge myself and quit whining

They and Expedia were at least initially owned by the airlines themselves, and so they are the worst sites to get discounts. Or refunds. Go to the airline site directly, for the best deals.
SIX PHONE CALLS! "No sir, you must cancel your reservation directly with the airline." NO NO NO! The Airline siad you are wrong and YOU, the travel agency that booked the flight, must cancel the reservations... BACK AND FORTH. NEVER AGAIN will I ever use ORBITZ! PERIOD.
I book round trip flight and I made insurance on it, I had emergency I called them according to the insurance policy They had gave my money back, they refuse to pay a penny I lost the whole price of the ticket plus insurance.
The prices on the hotels tend to be low-balled, and several times I have checked into my hotel that i booked on orbitz and there have been problems with my reservation, even with confirmation.
If I could give less than one star, I would. I've used Orbitz for years and always had a great experience until this one. After this, I will never again use them. I booked a family vacation months in advance. And received text messages stating that the flight coming back is canceled and I need to contact them. I finally called customer service just to double-check. It took several days to finally get through as each wait was hours long and I had to eventually hang up.
When I did get through after a 3 hour hold one night, the gentleman on the phone was extremely rude and threatening. We went around on the phone for 2 hours. I asked for a supervisor and was told that the supervisor is not available and will tell me the same thing. I left my number for a callback but never received one. Because of that, I had to cancel my son's flight and the agent after 2 hours said that she is processing refunds, in few weeks I called and had to go through 2 hours horrible experience, and looks like the refund has never been processed and the agent was processing a refund. So, the customer service person told me she would process the cancellation. She told me to be patient and that the cancellation was being processed. Then, after about 40 minutes, she just disconnected I see that it is not processed It was an awful experience, and the customer service was horrendous. I've never been treated more rudely. Avoid them at all costs. I've read other reviews stating similar experiences where the service used to be good but is now the worst.
Recently we booked a flight to Dublin, Ireland that is a dream trip for my wife. The happiness came to an end when Orbitz charged me three times for two tickets, quickly taking every dime from our account. After 4 hours 3 customer service reps, one supervisor, and a corporate manager, I was basically told I am wrong, stupid, lying, there was possibly a system error, or a possibly a glitch. Every Rep was rude, unable to be understood, or just in plain denial. Upon reaching corporate after they had identified the mistake was theirs and that they had charged us twice for the same ticket, I was advised that there was nothing that they could do. I explained to them that there had to be something and I was told that I had to wait three days for anything to happen. I then told them that I had no money to feed my family and that they needed to figure out a way to expedite this. The corporate manager responded that " your family is of no concern to us". Way to go Orbitz by showing us that we don't matter and that all you care about is the bottom line. As a US servicemeber my time with my family is very important to me and something I should not have to waste correcting an error made by you. Myself, my family, my friends, and anyone else I can get to will no longer use your service because just like you have no concern for my family, I have no concern to ever support this business
