Our flights were delayed twice, each time by a day. Both times, Orbitz booked my mother and grandma on different flights. My grandma is old an cannot travel by herself. Orbitz spent 3 hours saying they would help me and then not arranging anything. Delta is telling us the Orbitz has to postpone the return flight because of the delay. They are refusing, saying they cannot move the return flight later as there are no economy tickets left on any days in the future. I checked on Delta and Orbitz and there are many flights available. Total scam! Avoid at all costs! Support was not given by Pamela.
Its a scam ridden company run by unethical and rude people. Their agents are highly incompetent and they even dont speak proper English. I made changes to an itinerary from SFO to India, spoke with 2 of their agents and once both confirmed that the total amount would be $ 231.83, went ahead and made the changes. But in the credit card statement, I was charged $460. When I called them back, I had to spend 2 more hours going over the same story again and again with 5 different people with no resolution. Their manager was very rude. And was trying to prove that I am ignorant and dont know the rules. She said she will investigate on the incident and get back within a week, but she never came back. Will never book tickets through them again, I lost $230 because of these unethical guys.
The worst customer service experience in my entire life. Took months to get an answer on the phone and then hours and hours of trying to work with them to ca result of nothing. They are using the pandemic to excuse refusing refunds. They sent me an email confirming the refund and then changed their minds! So sad a company has to do that to customers despite my spending countless hours on hold and back and forth with different representatives who had no authority. Finally the corporate rep simple refused to help me.
I'm done with them
We rented a car for Costa Rica. $249.98 including taxes and fees. We took the $91.00 insurance for a total of $340.98. Once over there at EC Nextcar rental, it was a different story. Our total came to $703.58 because EC Nextcar refused our $91.00 insurance, refused our credit card coverage insurance. We were bullied into taking their own insurance, with an attitude and with the clear statement that we paid that amount of we were not leaving with the car. Looks like this can happen anytime when you book a car through Orbitz because that is the vendor decision and Orbitz takes NO responsibility for the fact that it nearly tripled our car rental pricing. To me, that is false advertisement. The vendor shows a low rental price but make its money by charging you extra, once you are over there with no power to walk away and find another car on the spot. I am not impressed to say the very least. Orbitz did refund the $91.00. The Orbitz rep on the phone was of no help. He promised us $25.(what a joke) for the trouble... that was it and we never saw the $25! No more car rental booking on Orbitz for me.
This is a good website for locating prices on hotels and airlines. However, when I called them, the wait time was over 45 minutes to speak to a live representative. They basically do not want you to call them and do everything online; yet they say they provide excellent customer service. They do not.

Orbitz made traveling more convenient for me and my husband. We get reminders about our bookings and rebooking is usually easy too. There was just one instance that when we booked for a room at a hotel in Kansas City and on the day we went to check in, we were told we are not getting the room we booked. We asked for a refund but we were refunded a measly $4.00 for a $100.00 room! Not sure if it was Orbitz's fault or the hotel's...
I have used Orbitz for years and have been satisfied with their service. However, on Jan 9,2023, I tried to book a local hotel because of the evacuation in our area, the price went up shortly after the evacuation order was in effect! When Expedia's software detected an increase demand for hotel rooms in our area due to an evacuation, they increased the room rate! Expedia ripped people off when they are suffering life threatening and disasterous life experiences. The price gouging is extremely unethical and insensitive! Book directly with the hotel!
Their strength is probably their rental car service. You can find some great deals with Orbitz. However it appears that Orbitz/Expedia/Kayak/Travelocity have the exact same hotel prices. It's not really a bargain.
I've used Orbitz a couple of times now to find air and hotel travel combined. The choices are always too many to count. The preferences I have can be built into platform. I even cancelled once and they refunded my money. All and all it is a useful online tool that saves time searching out destinations.
Simply great. I use orbitz for car rentals, which is great as they do not require credit car. Flight reservations be careful as airlines may require a bit of a circle around to get changes or cancellations done since orbitz has no full control. Hotels do require payment but if you book with 24 hour cancellation, then you have nothing to worry about :)
The customer service representatives, almost by design, are trained to frustrate you. You ask a simple question and they will respond with a completely irrelevant and unrelated answer. Either they are all completely incompetent or are trained to mislead and cause confusion. Every call can eat up 45 minutes to an hour. The hotel coupon offers don't work for most of the hotels or seem to stop working well before their expiry date. Lots of gimmicks and diversions to give you the false impression that you are getting good deals. Most unpleasant experience overall!
Booked a long round trip with this service including 2 connections. Got the exact trip i wanted at a price that was $200 cheaper per person compared to other sites, and was $400 cheaper than my local flight agent.
Well, seems like many have the issue I had. I purchased insurance when I booked my flight and hotel package, in the event of cancellation. I had to cancel and all orbitz will tell me is that I can schedule another trip within a year, which is the same thing delta offered without any insurance purchased. And their vacation waiver terms do not specify this policy at all, they actually imply a refund for cancellation.
So all they do is make some money off their customers for no insurance offered at all.
Keep away if possible
I have used Orbitz for many years without much trouble but my most recent experience was so bad I will avoid them in the future. I tried to use airline credits with them and at first they wanted to charge $500 ea more than my credits even though I found flights for $100 ea more. I ended up making a reservation to reserve a price, which I had 24 hrs to cancel. After 5 more calls I ended up paying full price for my flights with the credit never being applied. Additionally there hold times were 2-3 hrs and one time they called me back 3 hours later only to put me on hold for another 30 minutes. Absolutely horrible.
We tried to change our flight schedule 72 days before departure. They wanted $250 per ticket (family of 4) on top of the fees that the airline would charge. I am currently disputing the original charge for the tickets with my bank in hopes that I can get my cash back from Orbitz. I am willing to pay a fee to reschedule my flights. It's only fair. But, $300+ per ticket (Orbitz plus United's fees) is insanity for what amounts to a few clicks on a computer screen. For a family who gets but one vacation every 1-2 years, this is upsetting. I can say with 100% certainty, that I will NEVER use Orbitz again. I learned an expensive lesson.
These people are scam. They will take all your money and won't help you if you are in problem. They think we got all the money now, you go to hell. I booked my flight for 2 people worth 2600$ but airline cancelled my reservation when I arrived at airport (pissed me off totally). Then I called them so they told me, "we are sorry, you can use this money in future". Since I had no other option I said OK. Now they are saying NO to everything and telling me there is an investigation going on. This investigation went for about 1 month and now they are saying we have nothing for you. They took all my hard earned money and gave me tears in my eyes. I am sure this company will fall soon. Fraud. Dont waste your time and money with them.
My Visa card was used fraudulently to book a two-night stay in a hotel using Orbitz Worldwide as the booking agent. Orbitz have a system (quite common place in online travel agencies apparently) whereby online customers pay for travel services using credit details that do not have to match the person who books into the hotel. Orbitz take payment from customers, charge commission and then pay the hotels. Guests can book into hotels without being asked for ID to prove that they have used their own credit cards to make the bookings. Orbitz have so far not taken responsibility for their lack of security and have accused me of making a fraudulent claim. My advice is be very careful when using their services.
My husband and I drove 2 hours to key largo to be turned away by the front desk. The front desk told me that orbitz over booked by 5 rooms. I sat in hotel parking lot on phone for 54 minutes on hold with orbitz while my husband searched for rooms on his phone. There were no rooms because of lobster season. So we drive back home. Wasted our night, ruined our weekend. Will never book with orbitz again
We've used Orbitz for many of our international flights until 2013. Never had major problems with our tickets except for seat selections. What we thought were confirmed seat selections made online with Orbitz.com for our family of 4 traveling together were not at all confirmed with the airlines. We've started using Travelocity.com since and have been more satisfied. They may be a little more expensive and does not always offer seat selections but at least it is not false advertising.
Answer: Depends where you are flying from and where you are flying to
