ModCloth, founded in 2002 by a fashion enthusiast, offers timeless vintage-inspired designs and inclusive fashion. Modcloth has a rating of 1.7 stars from 302 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Modcloth most frequently mention customer service, return policy and store credit. Modcloth ranks 1904th among Women's Clothing sites.
I'm 5,05ft high so i'm very little but for the rest I have a normal body. I asked myself many times who can wear most of the dresses? They are even too short for me:(
Shippingcosts are normal, but high if you want a trackingnumber (I bought 3 dresses and for a shipping with tracking number I had to pa 14 Dollar extra instead of 16 dollar, according to me, it's way to expensive!
Some items are way to expensive, I usually save them untill they are in sale
LOVE their swimwear! And the customer service is excellent! I ordered 2 swimsuits and they arrived right on time. The colors are dazzling and the cut is flattering. However, they were too large.
I still wanted the suits, but they only had 1 of them in a smaller size. The return/ exchange process was very smooth. It had options for each item, allowing me to get a store credit +$5 for one and exchange for the other. After that, though, the suit that was unavailable was restocked. So I chatted with them and got my store credit changed to a refund so that I could order the last of my size before someone else did.
THEN I saw that there was a 20% sale happening. Although I had already placed an exchange request, I chatted with someone and she changed my exchange to a refund so that I could order the right size at the new lower price!
Even for someone as picky as I am, they were great and exceeded all reasonable expectations. Fast responses, high quality swimwear, and very easy returns/ exchanges. Love it! I'll definitely be ordering from them again!
Mediocre quality items and mediocre price point with a HORRIBLE and UNCLEAR return policy (especially on shoes). Never again will I order through here and if you care about quality from a company who stands behind their products, then keep looking.
I use too love this website but since Walmart bought it the clothes quality when way down and the price didn't went down with it. Never going to buy there anymore
Their return policy is AWFUL!. It took 10 days to get the product. AND THEN with their " free return shipping" it takes ANOTHER 14 days to get back to them. OH! And there is no mail on sundays. So if you can do the math, that is a total of 26 days in transport. So their " 30 day return policy" is a truly a 4 day return policy. And their customer service department does NOTHING to help with this except keep restating a policy that is clearly written incorrectly. I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!
I was actually a long-time Modcloth customer, for well over a decade, when I recently had to mail back a couple of expensive -- but shoddy-quality -- bags from my order. I mailed back my returns (completely unused, tags all on, etc) within a reasonable timeframe (yes, I do have a life), but obviously I have no control over the mail and how fast things are sent internationally.
Some time later I got an email from Modcloth saying they'd received my returns outside of their timeframe, and were not going to refund me anything. So I was essentially forced to not only forfeit the items I'd originally purchased, but also the high cost of return postage (those bags were heavy).
As a long-time, repeat buyer at ModCloth, having literally spent thousands of dollars over the years, I was incredibly disappointed and sad that no compromise or leeway was offered me, nor attempt made to offset my loss. Even a token "How about a measly 10% off voucher for your next purchase" would have been something. But despite my voicing my feelings to them more than once, the lovely Modcloth rep just kept saying "Too bad!" and even "I hope you have a wonderful day!"
Nice. I will NEVER purchase from Modcloth again. Considering the original reason for my returns -- the shoddy quality -- they are really just NOT worth it.
*** UPDATE -- Having read my review, a ModCloth rep assisted in rectifying the situation by providing a refund, and also explaining corporate circumstances at the time which might have affected the quality of their customer service, which was much appreciated. A learning experience all round I think.
They have some cute stuffs. Customer Service are excellent. However, they are extremely overpriced in my opinion. You can find some of their items at other store with lower prices!
I gave them a 4 star review for a jacket I really liked because it had a hole in the pocket and receive an email saying they won't post my review because it's unsatisfactory.
Hi, Kelli. I'm very sorry for any frustration, and I apologize that your jacket came in that condition. Per our Community Guidelines (https://bit.ly/2MzPba8), we are unable to publish product reviews regarding damage, as that is something our Customer Care team will need to look into and assist with. Please rest assured that we take the quality of our products very seriously, and our team will assist with any and all issues relating to damage or defect. You can reach Customer Care at modcloth.com/help, from 9am-8pm ET, Monday-Friday, and 10am-6pm ET on Saturdays. They will be sure to look into this and take care of the issue, right away.
I really like modcloth. I have bough numerous dresses, tops, and accessories from them and have not had much of a problem. I have returned a couple of items without any problem, and never had any issue with customer service. I do not think some reviewers understand the site fully. It is an online store dedicated to bringing together many independent and small brands and getting their names out. From what I have seen, they do not have a specific "in house" brand. Some items are quite costly, i. E. I have been salivating over a $250 dress that is designed wonderfully, only to realize it is made out of nothing more than sundress material. Other items are wonderfully priced. They have a retro edge to a lot of the designs they sell, which is why I love the site so much. Shipping has always been quick when I have placed orders. I never order stuff online that I question how it will fit and I always wait to see other people review items I may want, to make sure it is worth the cost. It is all about being smart with how you shop, and if you are, modcloth is total fashion heaven.
I used to write a fashion blog and ModCloth is very popular among many of my cohorts. With that said, I had never purchased anything from their website. As luck would have it I got a gift card from my sister-in-law for Christmas and immediately got on and looked around. They really do have an enormous selection of vintage-inspired clothing. I also really love that they display buyer reviews directly on the product page. They even allow customers to upload photos, which can prove to be extremely useful. I'm not sure why some reviewers are saying that those reviews are truncated or that they only display positive reviews… Almost all the items I looked at had 3/5 stars or less. That's not exactly stellar in my book. Most reviews pertained to fit, fabric and craftsmanship.
Anyway, I placed my first order last week and within 5 hours of placing it, they sent me a shipping confirmation email. Wow! Awesome! When my order arrived, the color was very different from what was on the website, but I was impressed with the quality of the garment and the fit seemed true-to-size.
Ultimately, I think most things on their website are pretty overpriced. Without another gift card or store credit of some sort, I probably won't go back and buy more…unless one particular dress goes on sale. ;) No matter how I slice it, I was really impressed with their quick order turnaround and rather large selection, even if said selection doesn't exactly fit into my personal style.
Over 2 weeks later and Modcloth finally issued a return on my first order but instead of returning 2 items and initiating 1 exchange, they just returned all of my items. THEY CAN'T GET ANYTHING RIGHT AT THIS COMPANY. I'm not going to even deal with this exchange and take my money and run. Do not shop here!
I've ordered from Modcloth before over the years without issues (they have such cute clothing). However, not sure what's going now, but have had terrible service with my latest 2 orders.
With 1st order, I didn't get any notice my order was shipped until a day before it arrived. I returned 3 of the 5 items (with 1 being exchanged for a different size). The return was delivered to them over a week ago with NO communication from Modcloth. Did online chat with a Modcloth rep and found out "they are behind on returns and you can call to make a 'quick return'." So tried to call customer service and the wait time was 54 minutes! Screw that. With the 2nd order, again, no communication about shipping until the item was a day out from being delivered. One of the items was completely inaccurate -- wrong item and wrong size. Will be returning since I have no more patience with dealing with their returns and exchanges. Super disappointing and I am done with this company!
I recently cleaned out my closet, and realized that the pieces I was most likely to keep were many that I bought from Modcloth over the years. The site is great because they have so many pictures of the clothing being modeled by their customers, so it's easier to tell if it's really the garment you love, or just the photo styling.
Secondly, they carry many independent lines, so if you pay attention to the maker of a piece you like, you can often find similar pieces by them again. I found a couple of blazers and dress shapes that I love, and by checking back periodically, I've been able to buy multiples of those over time, in a variety of colors, that work really well for me.
Also, I appreciate that they show separate images of their plus size (or "extended size") garments in the photo selection. We don't have to look at a single image and try to guess how a pattern or design will scale up from the small size depicted: Modcloth will show you directly.
So I look at it as much as a style resource as a clothing shop. It's one of the best sites for functional online clothes shopping, in my opinion. (And though some of their prices are steep, they have a great sale section, and will notify you if something you love goes on sale.)
I was going to be a modcloth customer for life until they posted false return times for their return policy. I got horribly misshapen clothes and returned them within the time frame of the policy. They have had the cloths back for 2WEEKS! AND I STILL DONT HAVE MY MONEY BACK! The representative spouted something about "its out of our hands and in visa's now" are you kidding? Thats what you call customer service? When your policy clearly states 5-7 business days on your website? NEVER WILL WASTE MY TIME AGAIN!
Hi there, Samantha. I sincerely apologize for any trouble with your previous refund. We do process returns within 5-7 business days, but it can occasionally take a bank or card company a little more time to receive and process the funds on their end. I do hope you received your funds back, but if not, please reach out to our team right away, at modcloth.com/help. We will be glad to provide any information needed, so that you can show proof of refund/return to your bank or card company. In the meantime, please rest assured that I have shared your feedback with the appropriate teams.
I really can't fathom how this site has so many good reviews... you pay $100 for a pair of shoes or a purse that's not leather made out of some disgusting material that smells like plastic, I have ordered 12 different things from shoes, dresses, bags, swimsuits, bras, everything I have ordered has been disappointing except one bra. It takes 2 weeks for anything I order to get here and literally A MONTH to be refunded. Their "details" lie one of my swimsuits said lightly padded, um there wasn't even cups in it like a normal swimsuit it as so cheap and flimsy! Their customer service is absolutely wretched and I am a customer service supervisor. Once I had a $25 off of total order coupon and all swimsuits were on sale %20, note, ALL, and the one I wanted for some reason was the only one not showing up on sale. They offered to give me a %20 off coupon. I said "No, then I cant use my $25 off the swimsuit is supposed to be on sale. Cant you just refund me $13 I would be saving?" They told me they would put in a request about it and were so incredibly rude about it! Your clothes are outrageous already people come on now! I have had nothing but problems with this website.
Careful what you buy. Most of the products they sell that do not have a designer mentioned are very cheap things that are made in China. They tend to be flimsy and high-priced. THEY CENSOR NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF PRODUCTS. They claim to be democratic, but are actually a dictatorship. I left a negative review about the All The Buzz Satchel because it is cheap and not worth the price and they omitted my review but only posted the positive reviews they received. Very deceptive.
I always use to peruse and dream about all of the one-of-a-kind dresses I would buy when finally I broke down and signed up for an account (which was free) so I could really start to get involved in the community. (Side Note: you'll definitely want to check out the blog if you visit the site. They've got a lot of great info and unique stories)
One of my favorite features is the restock notification. When there's that one piece to your ensemble that would be perfect and lo-and-behold its out of stock, modcloth gives you the option to sign up for a restock notification and they sent you an email when the dress is back in your size!
That's how I ended up buying my first dress. It was this red lace ensemble that (thank God) modcloth let me know ran small to size. Honestly if I hadn't known that, the dress would have been more appropriate for a street corner than for the wedding I had the following weekend. I bought a size up and placed my order and the dress arrived within the week! It fit perfectly and even came with an additional accessory as a gift for my first purchase with them.
Love this site and look forward to buying from them again!
Wow! What a site! Love It! 50's style? Yes... Modern style? Why Yes! Vintage? On track! Style, Grace, quality! Have spent some serious money at this site! Dresses to die for!
I am writing this and I never write reviews on places BUT this is so CRAZY! I ordered a dress on April 29th 2018 and I opted for the 7-9 business day shipping because I have a wedding on May 12th to go to! I track the package and it says that it will be here on Wednesday 5/9/2018 and I am thinking great! Then it changes! Now it is not going to be here until the 12th in the evening time! This is so crazy I called Mod Cloth and they handled it terribly and they said! Well there is a warning in fine print and I said well I would have NEVER opted to buy it had I known you guys don't speak the truth don't trust them just get everything you buy somewhere else and the quality of what they provide is NOT good. Mod Cloth is a scam and they don't care about their customers at all.
Hi, Kasey. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience with your previous order. I know that waiting for a package to arrive can be frustrating, if it is taking longer than expected. Please rest assured that I have shared your feedback with our team, and we are always working to make the shipping process easier for our customers. If you have any other questions or concerns, our Customer Care team would be happy to assist. You can reach them at modcloth.com/help.
ModCloth has been a very helpful company. Their goods are of HIGH quality. They commit CS reps CS STYLIST HELP, whoever u NEED. 2 YOU! They have CHAT which I love & they respond quickly. Shipping can be slow. They say its bc they use small artisans who can only fulfill so many orders. Otherwise, they hav helped me immensely. Just make sure your signed up 4 "notification" so ull b alerted as soon as an item u wanted comes back! Then, grab it immediately! They even say "order in 2 sizes if your not sure, we have FREE SHIPPING BOTH DIRECTIONS". And it IS trye!
I purchased a huge wool coat and a few other items. I only bought the coat bc I saw that they offer free returns. When the items came, the coat was HUGE. It is not at all what I expected. In the box was a fedex return label. I called customer service bc where I live, there is no fedex drop off aside from drop boxes, and this is a HUGE box. She said that within 24 hours the warehouse would be emailing me a usps label. It never came. Two days later, after emailing to say never receiveced, someone emailed me the "label" only when I opened their attachment, it just took me to their website about how to return via fedex. So now it appears that I am going to have to pay over 20 to send back this item due to their apparently being unable to provide a return label that I can use. It is a shame because they have some really cute clothes. I was hoping this would be a long-term relationship, but that cannot happen now. Had I known I would have to pay the large shipping price for the coat, I would never have taken the chance. I emailed the csr back and said that the attachment didn't work, but I am very doubtful that I will ever get my usps label from Modcloth. So unless my item will fit in a fedex drop box, I cannot order there again. Not worth the additional expense and all the trouble.
Hi, Jennifer. I apologize for any inconvenience! I hope that you were able to get in touch with our Customer Care team to receive that label. We are always able to provide free USPS return labels, if FedEx is not an option, so it sounds like there may have been some technical difficulties here. In any case, please know that I have shared your feedback with the appropriate teams.
Answer: The quality is about 80% rubbish (based on 10 purchases and only keeping 2 items). Hardly any of the dresses are lined and they're made with very cheap fabric, they're also way more expensive than they used to be but the quality hasn't improved. The stitching is usually uneven and the cloth cuts are terrible. You have to pay to return things, and from Australia it often costs more in postage to return something than the item itself, so I wouldn't bother.
Answer: Hi, Priscilla. We do not currently send out a physical catalog. I'm sorry for any disappointment!
Answer: Hey, Leslie! No need to worry- returns are pretty easy, especially if you're in the U.S., where we can provide a free return shipping label. At this moment, we are just a little behind on getting returns processed, due to heavy volumes during our recent sales, but we're working on getting caught up, ASAP! Our Customer Care team can also always help with any returns questions you have, as well as checking on returns statuses. You can reach them from 8am-11pm EST Monday-Friday, and 8am-9pm EST Saturdays, at modcloth.com/help!
Answer: Yes, there are full cash refunds and online store credit for the returns. It is annoying, but you would go into the purchase history and there is a section to return whatever items you want. Then when you have completed that section there should be a return Label paper that you print out from your email. It is a fedex paper. The returns should be free.
Answer: Used to be great. Horrible now. Never true to size. Cheaply made from China.
Answer: Be sure to refer to the sizing chart for your size. Also keep in mind that some items are in European or Asian sizes. Be sure to read the full desription of the item to know if you need to size up or down.
Hi Janice! Thank you for this feedback. I am so sorry for any frustrations and disappointment with our return policy. For international returns, we need to receive the package within 60 days for a refund to the original payment method. After that, we allow up to 90 days for returns for Store Credit.
That said, this certainly does not sound like the customer service we are accustomed to giving. We'd be happy to take a closer look into your order and make this right! Please don't hesitate to email support@modcloth.com with your order details. Thank you again for review!
