CheapOair Reviews Summary

The company has established a strong reputation for its user-friendly platform and competitive pricing, with many customers praising the efficiency of the booking process and the helpfulness of customer service representatives. However, some concerns have been raised regarding communication issues, particularly related to flight changes and refunds, leading to frustration among users. While the majority of feedback highlights a positive experience, instances of delayed support and difficulties in correcting booking errors suggest areas for improvement. Overall, the company is viewed as a reliable option for budget-conscious travelers, yet it must enhance its customer service responsiveness.

BEWARE! I wish I could give them a big zero
May 17,2016 I purchased 4 tickets
September 2,2016 - I receive an email that my reservation was cancelled and no other flights available with airline Dynamic Air.

Since September 2, I have been told to expect refund 30-60 days - 2 billing cycles.

Checked statements over and over no refund applied. CheapOair says refund was made- I asked for proof and received nothing. Chase has confirmed no refund was made to my account.
- I am very frustrated that it would take so long for a refund - for a cancellation that came from their end. Now they are saying the refund was done.
At this point I might never see my money again.

Rosalba, our apologies for the inconvenience Dynamic airlines has caused,. The airline went bankrupt that was the reason for the cancellation. As a travel agency, we have no control over the airlines operations and can only assist in getting this resolved. When the refund was processed, that means that we set the tickets up for a refund, we forward to an airline accounting firm, who then sends it to the airline for the final processing, and credit to your charge card, therefore it's not CheapOair that has the funds, but Dynamic airlines. On September 9, we did advise that the refund could take 1-2 billing cycles to hit your charge card, unfortunately when dealing with a bankrupt business, that can take alittle longer. Any travel company you would of used, you would be having the same concern, so using one over the other company, would have the same outcome. We did process the refund on our end, but ultimately, the airline has the final obligation to credit your account. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Sktechy name.
November 4, 2016

I will preface this by saying that sketchy, in this instance means suspicious (in regards to the name) The site was easy enough to navigate, easy enough to find what I was looking for (though, some of the load-times in between filters were above what I would expect from a website in 2016)

The major issue I've had with them, was that it took a very very long time and a couple of calls/live chats with customer service to finally get my flight confirmation (about 3 weeks after paying for it) They kept saying they had sent it, but when I checked my email, I had nothing. Finally, I got to someone who helped me (keep in mind, 3 weeks after purchasing tickets) They were nice and quite eager to help me resolve my issue.

The phone techs were typical call-center employees with thick accents. Not an issue, per se, its just when I hear "steve" from "missouri" attempt to help, I think to myself "Why bother with the charade?"

Other than that? We'll see.

Fees, fees, fees

Low price but $50 fee to book, $200 to add luggage, (going to a wedding. Had to have). Could not understand agent, very thick accent. Would never use again and we have not gone yet.

Dear Jill, sorry to hear of the inconvenience you are experiencing with your reservation. I do see that you are booked on Spirit airlines, and Spirit does lead the way in higher cost for extras such as bags, seating, and condiments while flying. As a travel agent, we do not have any control over the cost of the these items especially the bags. Many airlines have now been charging for bags for many years, so this isn't anything new. It seems like you had many, if you are paying $200.00 for luggage, or over the weight limit of 40 lbs. Although we do sympathize with you, unfortunately we have no control over these cost. We appreciate your business, and enjoy your wedding.

Livid customer.
October 27, 2016

The reason I give it a ** instead of * is because I have used it before and like the cheaper flight prices. But in the end, it's not worth the headache of dealing with their customer service. There are plenty of other options for discounted flights that I will now use over cheapoair. I of course tried to cancel my flight, like most of you who have also put a complaint in. Considering $#*! happens, you would think a company like this would accommodate your situation and at least offer you a voucher for a future flight. I would be completely ok with not getting a refund if I at least got the same credit towards a future flight with them. How hard is that? The airlines do it for crying out loud. I asked the representative that question and he told me that I would be charged a $400 fee if I wanted to cancel my flight and be able to get the credit towards booking a future flight- MY FLIGHT DIDNT EVEN COST THAT. What kind of nonsense is that? I got no explanation as to why the hell charging me an additional $400 would help me to book a future flight. I think asked if that was a CheapOair policy or the airlines policy... you guessed it. Blamed it on the airlines. At the end of the call after we got nothing accomplished, he had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to book a hotel or rent a car through them for this trip. Wow. Add salt to the wound. I encourage everyone to go to the Better Business Bureau to formerly write a complaint if you haven't already. Also, if they even read these complaints, I suggest they review their calls so they can ensure they are properly training their employees to give out correct information. When you outsource your customer service department, information tends to be changed up and I'm sure not monitored nearly enough.

Hello Cassie, my apologies for the inconvenience you are experiencing with your recent booking. After reviewing your reservation, you had two separate airlines that you had booked, American on the outbound, and United airlines on the return. Unfortunately because the airlines charge a $200.00 change fee, you are getting hit with (2) fees because of having booked two different airlines. Sometimes it works out to your advantage with canceling and holding a future credit, in this case, it may be cheaper to purchase a new ticket because your original flight cost was less expensive than what the airlines change fee. We regret the inconvenience this may of caused, and if you wish to receive further assistance, please contact us at sm@cheapoair.com.

Ripped off via fees
October 25, 2016

(Just posted this on TrustPilot and am cross-posting it here. NOTE: CheapOAir has a deal with TripAdvisor, and as that's currently the main review site for travel, there's no way to inform would-be users of cautionary tales like mine except for on general review sites like this one.)

IF you just use them to book a flight,
AND manage to run the obstacle course / gauntlet of add-ons they try to get you to sign up for (you REALLY need to read the fine print)
THEN, MAYBE the site has some bargains.
BUT, the site has out-right LIES and misinformation. Case-in-point: change fees. The site CLAIMS that the fees are imposed by the airlines and that Cheap-o-Air (aka, rip-off-scam) has no say in those fees. That is a flat out LIE. The airline in question charges $170 to change the ticket; the flights had the same price so there was no difference in price. Cheap-o-Air's rip-off price: $370! They stole $200 from me.
NEVER AGAIN

Dear Ezra, our apologies for the recent service you received. As a travel agency we are held accountable for the rules that are mandated by the airlines in their fare rules. The airlines do charge airline fees that can be very expensive ranging from 100.00-350.00 depending on the carrier, and fare type. After reviewing your file, we have gone a head and refunded a portion of your ticket price. We regret the inconvenience, and hope this resolves your concern.

I reserved the hotel and flight. They charged for flight which I am totally fine with. That is how it is everywhere. But my problem was with the hotel. I reserve the hotel one month ahead and they took money from my account right away. Since, I was thinking I have to pay the hotel when I get there I was not prepare to pay for it and my bank account got negative. Usually, you don't have to pay for the hotel to until you get there. I called to cancel the hotel reservation after 15 min. They charged me $60 penalty. After that they told me that the money is gonna be on my account in 7 to 14 business day. I have never face with these kind of problem in my life. I reserved hotel with other website booking.com. I don't have to pay to until I get to the hotel. PLEASE DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

Thieves
October 23, 2016

I booked my flight on their website and awaiting confirmation of payment (in AUDollars)it reverted back to the flight selection saying the flight was now full and to choose another flight. The phone rang and it was a representative saying he could see there was a problem and could find me another flight and sort it all out, which he did the price even came down $50. Except I was now being billed in USDollars so the actual price was an extra $1000 Aud. More expensive than buying directly from the airline.

I made a booking but used the wrong dates. The site had quoted there would be a cancellation policy within four hours though. I called them and they told me it did not apply for my particular company. I think the cancellation policy is misleading, since it was clearly quoted which company I was travelling with.

When contacting customer support, they we're offering to change dates, but at a huge sum. They were trying to persuade me to make the booking although they knew it would be of my disadvantage and their advantage. Also, they tried to sell me additional Hotel and Car reservations, knowing that a lost a lot of money on them.

Another time, when I didn't show up at my flight to Rome, they automatically cancelled my return flight - no refund, no possibility to change.

Also, the site offers no insight in the booking with your airline company.

I booked a flight this afternoon at 2:15 PM. I got to Newark airport at about 5:30 PM for a 6:30 PM flight and the front desk informed me that I didn't have a ticket. Cheapo air charged me for a ticket, and gave me a confirmation number with American Airlines, but somehow the transaction didn't go through with the airline due tho cheapo air's negligence. So im at the front desk of AA and I call cheapo air to resolve the issue and the woman tells me nonchalantly that The transaction didn't go thorough and I will get a refund in 7 to 14 business days. That's all she had to say to me while I'm sitting in the airport with no flight, that I paid a $60 dollar cab ride to get too. She didn't really care and didn't even try to resolve the issue. Stay away from this site, I was scammed and they ruined my trip.

This site is a thief.
October 15, 2016

I would not be using this site ever again and I will make sure I pass on the word of the horrible experience I have encountered. I Purchased a plane ticket for my husband on 10/9/2016 for a flight to Leon Guanajuato Mexico and I saw the date was correct but at the time my husband shows up to the airport they informed him that the date was wrong and made him pay an extra $200.00 and another $160.00 dollars. This is not our fault that the site had a glitch in thair system, or this a way that you all get extra cash out of the expense of your customers. I also purchased the travel protection plan and that was no help because they couldn't help me. I'm so upset I paid for the flight and then some more this is a very low customer service site.

Erika, very sorry to hear of the inconvenience your husband went through. We have looked over the reservation, and see that the dates in the initial search for travel was for June 2017 and not for October. We did send out the email confirmation and when we checked it, it appears the email was never opened on your end, but it did contain travel dates for June. We regret that this was not opened immediately because you do have upto 24 hours from the purchase date to notify us of any discrepancies, and receive a refund, or make the applicable changes. The additional cost that was paid, was the airline change fee, and the actual fare difference for travel in October. So they did accept his old ticket, and applied that towards the new travel dates. We again, regret the inconvenience, and will be in contact to discuss further.

I booked a flight at noon and had to cancel the flight 5hrs later. CheapOair charged me an extra $90 for canceling my flights, even though it was advertised as free cancellations. Customer service is an Indian call center, not much help there. Stay away from cheapoair scam.

Hi John, sorry to hear you had to cancel your reservation. Glad you referenced the free cancellation policy. Yes indeed we do offer a "free cancellation" if you call within the first 4 hours of making the reservation. As you mentioned, you called within 5 hours, so there is a cancel fee, but let us look it over, and see how best we can resolve this. My apologies for the inconvenience.

Cheap o Air is a scam
October 9, 2016

After booking a flt, it turns out to have been booked under flexible dates tab. We immediately call and attempt to resolve literally in minutes. Now they customer service are trying to charge us additional $50 from the quoted price on online. The customer service rep said and I quote "That online price is not available", this while I am looking at the advertised online price.

I booked flights and my credit card was declined because I originally put in the wrong address. In the meantime, I went in to revise my credit card details, hit submit and it froze up after processing for over 5 minutes, so I closed out the page and went in and it still showed not complete. I then reopened a new webpage and booked an entirely new flight to avoid any mistakes and the booking was successful. Meanwhile. Now, both bookings are confirmed as they updated the original booking with the correct credit card information. Rather than calling me and stating the there are two bookings for the same flight, same time, same day, and it looks like a mistake, they tell me the tickets are non-refundable and they cannot do anything about it. It is not right to do this. They should refund me for one of the bookings. Instead, they tell me to call the insurance carrier because I bought travel insurance they promote... that's a mistake too, it's not even in house travel protection so I have to run around now and call another company that I paid $30 to reimburse me $484 because of CheapOAir double booking me. I doubt they'll refund me.

If you need to change your itinerary and dont mind paying the super high extra charges Cheapoair is not the company you want to go with. They really suck with customer service or caring for the customers and even listening to customer concerns. I needed to leave Greece to Barcelona couple day early because of a family emergence and I called them I was put on hold or transfer and the call hung. They didnt bother to call me back. I called several times and I told them I am using a 20 euro calling card so to please rush and to book the earlies t flight back- just put me on a long wait and hung up. Then I tried to reach them online through Cheapoair's state of the art "chatroom" it took me 2 hours to get someone to respond back with a quote and couldnt even book anything. The person that I chatted with promised that someone will contact me back and no one did I waited 24hours. Than finally I emailed them with my concerns and asked them to change my flight date and again no response. So I ended up having to book my flight with a different company SO DISAPOINTED never using CHEAPOAIR to book any of my trips again. WORST SERVICE

Use at your own risk!
September 29, 2016

I had significant problems with Cheapoair this summer. They issued a ticket in the wrong name. I had to buy new tickets on one airline and pay a service fee to change the name on another airline, adding over $600 to the cost of the trip. Cheapoair assumed no responsibility, claiming it was all my fault which was not true. They actually have a link on their issues page to fix this problem which you pay a fee for, suggesting this happens often and is a way they regularly cheat customers of extra money. When I returned from my trip, I tried to send a complaint, but letters and emails were returned as undeliverable. Phonecalls ended up transferred to busy signals. When I finally did get someone to talk to me, she said it was simply all my fault which of course was impossible to disprove. Wished I had checked reviews on the internet as they have a really bad rep, which is well deserved! PS: Their response to this review is typical of their way of doing business. Emails for ticket confirmations were sent to correct names. Also, I made numerous attempts to contact them which they simply ignored. They accept no responsibility for their actions.

I am a reasonable person who has been in customer service for 13 years, currtly works as job developer, so I know the industry and I am sympathetic to employers BUT never have I received such poor service. They have no idea what they're doing. My flights got cancelled. So I shifted my whole vacation by 1 day. Now they have yet to confirm my new fights with the airline and my account reflects the original flight... It's about 3 weeks before my trip. Just got off the phone after being transferred 4 times with total call time lasting over an hour with no resolution. The call center rep refeused to put me on with a manager and said someone will email me Monday. Never Again!
