When I order from the Vermont Country Store I know I can count on products being of high quality. Those who man the telephone order lines are pleasant and knowledgeable.
The former high-quality standards have dropped considerably. I bought some very expensive Mozart chocolates right before the holidays and when they arrived they were hard and starting to change color: dark chocolate should not start getting a Dusty white look or feel hard. I complained and I haven't heard a word since. Their quality after many years of buying from it, has significantly diminished. Customer service is non-existent when they ignore an email about the poor quality. Every chocolate is the same way.

Ordered the ski pajamas for women. Like the color and they are made well. I ordered size medium per the size char according to my body measurements; p. J.'s are huge!- - crotch down to my knees, waist too big and the length is at least 6 inches too long! I am 5 ft, 1' and weigh 138 lbs. Not the first sleepwear I've had to return; all are manufactured too large. Will return for exchange to small.
They have no problem taking orders/money. They DO NOT answer the phone.
The product I bought was too small and shipped without a return shipping label. For the prices they charge, it may be time to close the door and hang it up. At least with LL Bean you get consistent service and customer service when you need it. They'd get 0 stars if I could give it. As much as I dislike writing bad reviews...It seems many are dissatistfied!

Was very disappointed with my purchase of the Christmas Pudding. I thought it's gonna be the same as the Christmas pudding that my nephew brought home from a trip in England about 2 years ago.
This one tasted okay initially, but immediately turned out with a "waxy" aftertaste; not sure what is was initially but I was able to remove a white waxy sediment from behind my lower gums. I reviewed the ingredients and saw "glycerine" as one of the ingredients and upon looking it up online, I found that some bakers use glycerine in their recipe to keep their cakes moist. I followed the directions for heating it up using the microwave but it still "precipitated", for a lack of a better word, which resulted in my tasting the weird additive (glycerine)

I had purchased my second leather handbag from the Vermont Country Store. After one year one of the metal feet fell off. I sent it back hoping they could return it to the manufacturer to improve the design. Gratefully the Vermont Country Store fully reimbursed me for the handbag. I really appreciated their backing of their product!

I received a damaged item and reported it. I was told my account would be credited and no need to return the item. Despite reminding them THREE TIMES, I still have not received the credit. I'm done. I could have gotten the same item from Amazon for half the price. I am disappointed because I have been a loyal customer for many years.
They charge $20.00 for base level UPS shipping on a $139.00 clothing item a week before Christmas.
The item wasn't even close to fitting body length and sleeve length. I tried calling and sat on hold for 2o plus minutes listening to their down home old fashion messaging. No one answered customer service emails. I sent the item back. It was over two weeks before I received a confirmation of their receipt. Again I had tried calling and reaching customer service earlier.
They finally issue an item credit minus a $7.32 restocking fee?
Won't do business again with them and I have only just started recounting my experience on social. Media.

It's Christmas time. Placed order for 3 items. Never received confirmation email. Checked online account to ensure I ordered what I though I ordered, since I did not receive an confirmation email. To my surprise, my Vermont Country Store account showed me being charged for Shipping Only, No Merchandise was listed. Contacted Customer Service via Online Chat. Provided my Order No,, I informed them that I had not received an confirmation order email. I informed them that my online account only showed Shipping Charges with no actual merchandise being purchased. At some point during the chat session, I refreshed my browser. My account then showed almost $40.00 more from the original purchase price for the 3 items. Shipping which was Free initially, now it was $24.00, Chat session abruptly ended. So I phoned Customer Service. Spent almost an hour just for an individual to take down my phone number and promise someone would call me right back. No one called me back. In addition to all of this, checked my credit card account. They had charged me the correct amount, the amount I agreed to pay. However my Vermont Country Store account showed me being charged almost $40.00 more. Two more emails to the Vermont Country Store with no response from them. On day 3 I opened another online chat session with them requesting my order be cancelled. I did in fact receive a timely cancellation confirmation. During the holidays I need to get as much confirmation as possible, these are Christmas gifts. Placed and identical order online with Macy's. Confirmation email was received within minutes. Happy Holidays...
I kept getting a notification that I had an invalid credit card. I called the bank and the credit card was good. I called 4 times and finally ended up with customer service which had to redo the whole order. It was time consuming and frustrating. I won't be ordering from them again.
Your store is my favorite place to shop! The Lanz Nightgowns are the best ever, people say pricey! You get what you pay for I always say! I have 8 nightgowns including summer ones too! Hopefully this spring I will drive to your store with a Uhaul truck

I purchased and was charged for an item on November 6. When it arrived on November 8, the products were bad. I called customer service and they sent me a prepaid return label. The items were returned by USPS on November 13 and I was given a tracking number by the Vermont Country Store. The items went from USPS to UPS almost 2 weeks ago according to their customer service. I was told it would be 2-3 weeks before I received my almost $100 credit after I handed it off to the USPS. It has now been over a month and I still don't have a credit. I have called and spoken to a "live" person 3 times and called today as well. I was told that they couldn't help me and they would pass my message onto someone and that it would be 24-48 hours before someone would call me back. I was disconnected twice from their online chat after demanding my money be credited back. I have had to dispute the charge on my credit card because I don't have the product and they will not credit my account.
Tip for consumers:
They say returns are easy but they are not. They make it as difficult as possible.

I was given a gift of a jacket, wrong size. Returned for correction and received no notification after a few weeks, Tracking showed received by VCS. Called a few times before someone answered after very long wait times. Verified return, said replacement mailed on a given date and would be arriving in 7 to 10 business days. More weeks and no item. Finally a request for additional payment when card data was listed on return form. Questioned again and extremely rude attitude. Supposedly refund was issued, will have to check before filing a claim with ICC. Fairly expensive for Chinese made products anyway.
Tip for consumers:
Will not return to site for future items.

Can never get a hold of anyone. Poor customer service. No response on phone or email. No idea how I would try to return the item. We are done with you
Ordered on line. Have to return product as way too big for a medium. They dont answer the phone. Kept me on hold for over 20 minutes before i gave up repeating folksy messages how they would answer soon. Finally "chatted" from the website. It was a hassle also. They couldnt just email me a label I could print. Had to use snail mail. Then they sent a catalogue! I am trying to get off their mailing lists. Decades ago this was a great place. No longer. Overpriced as well. Dont waste your tie,
Tip for consumers:
no customer service that doesnt waste your timee. very overpriced pajamas. Size misleading.

So, I've been trying to reach you for two days...only so long I'll hold on...you are not providing customer service at all and you should rewrite your "bill of rights" for customers...to say..."customer should expect and GET quality/fast service"...and by the way...a customer really doesn't like to hear "old timey" advertisements while holding...and holding...and holding...only to hear the same ole dribble about "we love our customers...just hold on for a little bit more"...shows us you have absolutely no respect for your customer base...
Tip for consumers:
that although they have a toll free number....good luck getting anyone to answer your call...you're going to hold on for days

I never got to order anything at all...as I could not set up an account....never had anyone there answer the call from me...and spent two days trying to reach them! so...if this is how this company operates, I cannot imagine the problems I would encounter if I had ordered, and experienced a problem/issue with the merchandise....not getting in touch with a company is very important and they need to re-do their "bill of rights"...to include words ..."expect and GET customer satisfaction with the store's reps"....
Although 'nice' and 'folksy' describe the customer service of this company, having to wait 2 weeks or longer on orders is disappointing. Just not competitive when it comes to entering an order then shipping it out.
Tip for consumers:
Long list of excuses why they cannot deliver in a timely manner is never a good customer service look.

I bought ajumper for 71.00 whch was described as being of high quality denim and beautiful stenciling. It is fast fashion quality: four washings and it will shred. They say they have products form the US and this is form India. Customer service representative hung up on me.
Tip for consumers:
Customer service agent hung up on me when I said I didn't want o pay return shipping on a bad product.

We stopped into Rockingham store recently on a weekday morning. Only a couple other customers but many workers out, maybe 8 visible. My husband and I browsed separately. He and I exchanged notes on the strange, unfriendly, unhelpful, unreactive and avoidant or uncomfortable vibe of everyone there afterwards. I understand wanting to allow the customer space to enjoy the retro atmosphere in peace. Thank you. But when a customer leaves a store thinking they mightve done something wrong, theres a problem. We spent 80 bucks. A typical amount for a visit there as Ive been there on a couple very crowded days before. They do have neat stuff, however, first item I looked at was a metal ball shower ring set made in China. I looked at the price, 15 dollars. I'm sorry but, I dont support crappy business ethics anymore..
VCS used to be a trusted name in catalog mail order... now they're basically a scam. Ordered a dress, was told I'd receive an email alerting me when it shipped. I never received an email, contacted them (took a few attempts), was told their tracking showed it would be delivered that same day. Was not delivered. Emailed them for shipping confirmation and tracking number. Crickets. Reporting this to my credit card company as a fraudulent charge.
Tip for consumers:
Don't. Just don't.

I recently ordered two nightgowns from this store. I paid and exorbitant price but I accepted that because I was led to believe these items were made in America. I received the two gowns that were allegedly "made in America" and noted that one was made in Canada and the other was made in Hungary. I am unimpressed and will never purchase anything from them again. I would send them back except I don't want to spend any more money. I am disgusted.
I still like this little purveyor of old-timey products, and have ordered from them over the years. They sold untreated percale sheets, which I loved.
Their niche is the homespun and down-home household and apparel item.
My issue is the fact that their inventory at one time was strictly "Made In America"... now they are selling a lot of Chinese-made goods. So the quality has taken a dive.
But I do agree that their customer service is excellent and it is just plain fun to browse their catalog.
If you are a diehard old order type purist, I also recommend Lehman's Hardware Store and Gohn Brothers.
Four stars for VCS.
This company has gone so down hill. It took 6 weeks to get an item and then it was the wrong item. I tried to talk with a Kara Bennett about it and she was very rude. The management is horrid. They have to many chiefs and not enough Indians. I was on the phone for an hour waiting for them to pick up. Don't buy from this company anymore. They don't have enough qualified people for the job there suppose to do.
I ordered my mother-in-law's favorite perfume for a Christmas gift and she forgot she told me about it, so she called and ordered it for herself. Some wonderful person on the phone with her tried to refuse her three times, because they obviously knew that same bottle of perfume was on it's way to her. She insisted on purchasing the perfume for herself, and received my gift today. Now she'll have two bottles of her favorite perfume. That's my Vermont Country Store story!
I have been waiting for my refund for weeks. I finally received an email that it was processed. After a week, still no refund on my card. I contacted the company, and was told they changed systems so my credit card info was deleted. A check had been sent. I asked how much longer I would have to wait, and I was told to please be patient with the postal service. I called back to see if there was a tracking number. I also asked if they could cancel the check and overnight a new one. I was told the finance supervisor said they could cancel my check but it would cast ME $30. Horrible customer service. No common sense. Absolutely zero concern for the customer. And, that ridiculous conversation when on hold. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll receive my refund!
