I repeatedly order from Vermont Country Store. If there is anything wrong, they fix the problem immediately and you can have a great conversation while you're at it. I bought a ham that was supposed to weigh 8 to 9 pounds, and it weighed 7, so they gave me a refund for the pound I didn't get.
Lots of hard to find items from my childhood. They have great quality items but have become too expensive over time and I only seem to order now once a year or so. I do hope they stay in business because they do have some products that I haven't been able to find anywhere else.
I ordered my mother-in-law's favorite perfume for a Christmas gift and she forgot she told me about it, so she called and ordered it for herself. Some wonderful person on the phone with her tried to refuse her three times, because they obviously knew that same bottle of perfume was on it's way to her. She insisted on purchasing the perfume for herself, and received my gift today. Now she'll have two bottles of her favorite perfume. That's my Vermont Country Store story!
I have ordered a variety of items---candy, cookies, a dress, towels, sheets, etc.---all were of very good quality. The service was quick most of the time and courteous. The prices are high, but there are many things that are fairly hard to find.
One on the worst retail experiences ever. Order was totally botched after they were unable to fill it and back ordered some items. Then I was slapped with another unauthorized charge to my debit card. Shame on you. Your hokey Vermont accent on the long hold I was on was also annoying. Vermont Country Store will never see another cent from me. They are incompetent and dishonest in my opinion. You be the judge.
I received the robe that I ordered a couple days ago. It is exactly as described on your website. Just the right length with long enough sleeves to take one fold to be perfect. The cotton material is super soft and I know I'll get many years of wear from it. My terry, ankle length robe is too warm for all but the coldest days and my knee length cotton robe is great for really warm days. This one is great for everything in between. Thanks for the super fast shipping too.
I still like this little purveyor of old-timey products, and have ordered from them over the years. They sold untreated percale sheets, which I loved.
Their niche is the homespun and down-home household and apparel item.
My issue is the fact that their inventory at one time was strictly "Made In America"... now they are selling a lot of Chinese-made goods. So the quality has taken a dive.
But I do agree that their customer service is excellent and it is just plain fun to browse their catalog.
If you are a diehard old order type purist, I also recommend Lehman's Hardware Store and Gohn Brothers.
Four stars for VCS.
Vermont Country Store, do your customer service team a favor and change the god-forsaken hold musical you play. I spent 25 minutes on hold, listening to the deranged and unintelligible rantings of an elderly man, interspersed with the sporadic clangings of what was probably supposed to be music, all seeming recorded back when women couldn't vote. Frankly, it was more than enough to make anyone want to jump out of the window.
If I wasn't irate with my customer experience before, I certainly was after suffering through that absolute manic-nonsense hell.
If you want people to trust your company to do something as simple as accept credit card information online, stop making it seem like your company hasn't yet discovered sliced bread. Stop torturing your customers before they have to speak to your customer support team, and you'll improve everyone's experience.
Can never get a hold of anyone. Poor customer service. No response on phone or email. No idea how I would try to return the item. We are done with you
I ordered two items in November. They were poor quality, so with the 100% satisfaction guarantee, I returned them. There was a post on the website that they were "slow" about making refunds. Last month, I contacted the credit card company. They are still trying to get my $125 refunded. Very sad.
VCS used to be a trusted name in catalog mail order... now they're basically a scam. Ordered a dress, was told I'd receive an email alerting me when it shipped. I never received an email, contacted them (took a few attempts), was told their tracking showed it would be delivered that same day. Was not delivered. Emailed them for shipping confirmation and tracking number. Crickets. Reporting this to my credit card company as a fraudulent charge.
The store sent two 200 thread pillow cases but the description and photos led me to believe I was buying a 400 thread queen sheet set. They'll refund only the item, not the expensive shipping costs for sending it to me. It's false, phoney and not a " country store". Will never do business with them again
It's Christmas time. Placed order for 3 items. Never received confirmation email. Checked online account to ensure I ordered what I though I ordered, since I did not receive an confirmation email. To my surprise, my Vermont Country Store account showed me being charged for Shipping Only, No Merchandise was listed. Contacted Customer Service via Online Chat. Provided my Order No,, I informed them that I had not received an confirmation order email. I informed them that my online account only showed Shipping Charges with no actual merchandise being purchased. At some point during the chat session, I refreshed my browser. My account then showed almost $40.00 more from the original purchase price for the 3 items. Shipping which was Free initially, now it was $24.00, Chat session abruptly ended. So I phoned Customer Service. Spent almost an hour just for an individual to take down my phone number and promise someone would call me right back. No one called me back. In addition to all of this, checked my credit card account. They had charged me the correct amount, the amount I agreed to pay. However my Vermont Country Store account showed me being charged almost $40.00 more. Two more emails to the Vermont Country Store with no response from them. On day 3 I opened another online chat session with them requesting my order be cancelled. I did in fact receive a timely cancellation confirmation. During the holidays I need to get as much confirmation as possible, these are Christmas gifts. Placed and identical order online with Macy's. Confirmation email was received within minutes. Happy Holidays...
I wanted to place an order and tried "chatting" to inquire as to whether or not they offered promotion codes for first time customers. I was told they offered free shipping; however that was an offer made to everyone. I then asked if the prices were to reduce prior to being shipped for the holidays, if they would honor the sale price. They would not. So, basically, they do nothing for first time customers, which is okay; however, there was no incentive for me to purchase from them. I never received a welcome or any willingness to assist me. The chat person either left or disconnected before answering my final question. I was not impressed and will place my order elsewhere. I am not sure about their products because I never even got to that point.
I will never buy another gift from the Vermont Country Store. Your reimbursement policy for returned gifts is absurd. I bought a surprise gift for my sister that did not fit. It was promptly returned. I was never reimbursed the $60 to my credit card - your billing person told me that she reimbursed the third party who delivered the gift to my sister. She explained the reason was that your company likes to make sure that "nobody's feelings are hurt if their gift doesn't quite work out", for whatever reason. In a nutshell, it is impossible for me to recover the third party check so I am out of $60 because the Vermont Country Store wants to be Emily Post. Not good company policy, not good customer service.
Quite sincerely,
Patrice Chisholm
This company has gone so down hill. It took 6 weeks to get an item and then it was the wrong item. I tried to talk with a Kara Bennett about it and she was very rude. The management is horrid. They have to many chiefs and not enough Indians. I was on the phone for an hour waiting for them to pick up. Don't buy from this company anymore. They don't have enough qualified people for the job there suppose to do.
Really disappointed with the red plaid flannel blanket and gray underside. Super thin blanket. I expected better quality than this for the 100.00 blanket. Lots and lots of fabric but not a quality blanket.
I do not recommend these blankets and I will not buy another one from here. I bought cute flannel sheets from resale, sandwiched them together and got super nice blanket.
I bought 2 pairs of 63 inch plain white tie back curtains with lace on the edges. They cost $148. When I received them the lace was the cheapest lace money could buy. I sent them back immediately and it took over 2 months for them to refund me AND They charged me $26. This package was so small I put it in my mailbox. Never again.
This is my second time to buy from their website. I ordered 2 items on 9/12/2022. Today is 9/20/2022. It took VCS 3 days before UPS was updated to shipped status. Item is now been stuck in Illinois for 2 entire days. It's been 8 days since I ordered and this stuff was for a birthday gift.
Horrible experience. Do not recommend anyone use this business for anything. I was looking for the Vermont Country Store in Shelburne, cannot believe they are out of business? This website is some crooked outfit that monopolizes the internet. Wanted to get to the real Vermont Country Store in Shelburne Vermont and buy something specific I know they have, my family has gone to that store for generations. Ended up buying from this website and found they are nothing more than a giant scheme trying to sell everything you would normally find in any Vermont Country Store. Bad customer service and slow shipping.
