When you make a purchase of items over $70, which you are notified shipping is free, they still charge you anywhere between $13 to $20 in fees. Also, their products are nothing like the pictures advertised in their catalogs. This business is one big scam.
Recently I purchased Vermont's XL flannel, white robe with cardinals for women. I had previously purchased the exact same size in a pale blue w/cardinals so I fully expected the new robe to be the Same Size as the older one. It is NOT. The new robe is much smaller than the previous one and it barely wraps around me. I am very disappointed in this purchase but it would cost more money to send it back and I don't want to bother with it. So, Buyer Beware! I seriously doubt that I will purchase anything from this store ever again. Especially after looking around & finding the exact same robe for $40 cheaper than Vermont's price! I am NOT impressed with this one. The site won't let me upload a picture but it's the same one as in their current catalog. It even says that the robe runs Large - this is false advertising. I do NOT recommend this product and furthermore, now I would be very suspicious of sizing on all their other items for sale. Too bad - I was a loyal customer too.
I still like this little purveyor of old-timey products, and have ordered from them over the years. They sold untreated percale sheets, which I loved.
Their niche is the homespun and down-home household and apparel item.
My issue is the fact that their inventory at one time was strictly "Made In America"... now they are selling a lot of Chinese-made goods. So the quality has taken a dive.
But I do agree that their customer service is excellent and it is just plain fun to browse their catalog.
If you are a diehard old order type purist, I also recommend Lehman's Hardware Store and Gohn Brothers.
Four stars for VCS.
Poor Customer Service, Overpriced, Free Shipping is a SHAM. I made two orders for b'day gifts, with each over $65 to get the free shipping... Free shipping means--wait 2 - 3 weeks, and maybe then you might receive. Very disappointing and poor customer service response.
The order screen is very confusing. It's easy to order multiples of an item, but difficult to back out to a single item. And customer service isn't much help. I waited for 15-20 minutes for an agent to get back to me online. I finally called on the phone and found an agent who helped me.
I returned an item unopened immediately after it arrived because they would not cancel the order. It's been over a month now and I still have not been reimbursed even though they received the item. DO NOT DO BUSNESS WITH THEM! They act like they're an old established business but they are frauds.
Ordered the ski pajamas for women. Like the color and they are made well. I ordered size medium per the size char according to my body measurements; p. J.'s are huge!- - crotch down to my knees, waist too big and the length is at least 6 inches too long! I am 5 ft, 1' and weigh 138 lbs. Not the first sleepwear I've had to return; all are manufactured too large. Will return for exchange to small.
Your store is my favorite place to shop! The Lanz Nightgowns are the best ever, people say pricey! You get what you pay for I always say! I have 8 nightgowns including summer ones too! I could go on and on on everything I order! Your customer service girls are so nice and helpful and NEVER rush you off the phone. The desserts omg delicious! Hopefully this spring I will drive to your store with a Uhaul truck
I ordered a patio door curtain that was listed as in stock. That was on April 8th. Today is May 12th! I have called at least 3 times and was told our item was on back order. When I asked why was it listed as in stock, their answer ( the page just wasn't updated)! As of this morning I was told our order would ship tomorrow! What a run around! Will never order from Vermont Store again!
They lied to me about a product and when it would be delivered since site said 12/6 on Nov11
I called CS about the ship date prior to ordering-and she assured me delivery prior to Christmas! I wouldn't have ordered otherwise so that's really bad customer service to lie to get a customer to purchase! I am thoroughly disgusted by being lied to-like the lie in the email that I had emailed you when I had in fact spoken with CS prior to ordering. Don't look for any great reviews about your business but plenty of social media posts about the blatant lie!
Pissy company who cares more for their profits than the customer. To lie about a delivery of a known Christmas present places the with the grinch
I ordered three shirts from Vermont Store. They sent one short with no explanation with a $16.95 shipping cost. They sent it US Mail. They said they charge all the shipping upfront and the second two shorts would come free. I queried where they were and they told me they were back ordered. I asked how long it would be. They said by the end of December (almost two months after order). I waited until the beginning of January and again asked where my shorts where. They told me that I had called to cancel the order and snarkily said therefore there will be no shirts coming to my address.
Ordered products and still waiting after almost two weeks. They took two days or them to process the order then they shipped it by UPS Surepost. I have yet to receive the order after almost two weeks! I ordered from two other companies at the same time and received everything else within 3 days.
Truly Horrible Service, I'll never buy from them again.
Very slow delivery, 10 days via USPS Surepost. They say they use UPS but the parcel is turned over to USPS for delivery. My parcel had been in my city for 4 days before it was delivered. Quality wasn't there so I had to return and I turned it over to USPS a week ago and it is still in my city. Customer service was borderline rude the two times I spoke to them. Plus, they charge $6.95 for all returns. Will never shop here again!
When I order from the Vermont Country Store I know I can count on products being of high quality. Those who man the telephone order lines are pleasant and knowledgeable.
I have bought clothing and other items from them over the years and it was all good. Products are geared more toward baby boomers, longer dresses with pockets, sensible shoes, etc.
I posted a review a couple of days ago about problems I've had with The Vermont Country Store. Two days later and they still have not answered any of my e-mails. I did get a message, 2-3 days after I requested they cancel the shipment, that the item had been sent, scheduled for delivery today. UPS tracking, today at approximately 2 pm, told me the package had been delivered at 12:30 pm, IT HAD NOT. I contacted UPS and there is no way you can speak to a person, the computer will tell you that the package has been delivered. I went to the Vermont Country Store web site to the option called "Live Chat" and waited for the Live Chat Rep to join the conversation, got tired of waiting after 5 minutes. Did send another message that I have no hope of ever being answered. If you are considering ordering items from The Vermont Country Store allow me to state again DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
This is a store that sells OLD products that most people today do not benefit from. Some of their products do not perform as described & they are over priced.
I returned a pair of slippers I ordered for my wife, since I ordered the wrong size, and made the mistake of using their return label-which they charged me $8, more or less, and it took 2 weeks before I got an email that they had received them, with the statement that they would send me the correct size. A month goes by and no slippers. I contact customer service, via email, and they say the slippers have gone up in price and since I used PayPal, they need my credit card number to pay the difference, and that I need to call them and speak to one of the customer service representatives. I call them and find out they want another $20 to send the $49 slippers! They have to add on the return label charge, and the difference price now charge, and the shipping to me. I was livid! Their customer service sucks big time-no communication, scam on returns ands a total rip off. Never again! They have too many hidden fees they don't tell you about, and obviously don't care about customer satisfaction, or doing business in a timely fashion. A totally worthless outfit in my opinion. Buyers beware!
I love that they have a lot of hard-to-find old fashioned stuff. However, their stuff is very expensive. For example, one Henley nightshirt is $50. I have found the same one on other sites for $12.
Proceed At Your Own Risk … Two years ago—during Co-vid—I ordered two pair of flannel sleep pants from The Vermont Country Store (total cost of $90). They sent me two pair but one pair was obviously defective or previously worn and returned because the flannel material should have been sewn over the entire elastic waist band. It wasn't. So parts of the elastic were exposed in the waistband and one of the pull ties was longer than the other. Their Shipping Dept omitted the necessary (shipping) paperwork needed for proof of return. Due to Co-Vid concerns, I didn't return them and I also didn't have a box or a mailing envelope. Flash forward to more recently, I wore the defective sleep pants a few times and the pants began ripping because that elastic was never covered completely from Day 1. The other pair of sleep pants that I had worn all along are still fine. I contacted The Vermont Country Store several times and I was blamed for not returning them in a more timely manner. Another possibility is that, they could have been worn by another customer for a period of time, and their Shipping Department substituted these worn, returned sleep pants for sleep pants that should have been new. It's suspicious to me that their shipping paperwork/Order Confirmation was not included in the bag. That Order Confirmation would have been my proof. It was rather convenient not to include it. The Vermont Country Store advertises that they guarantee your satisfaction but that wasn't true in this case.
