thredUP Reviews Summary

ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Sent my bag months ago and have heard nothing or received nothing. I don't want credit but want the visa gift card. I sent very high end clothes and shoes. No customer service number to speak to anyone. This seems like a scam.

DO NOT BUY/SELL FROM/TO THREDUP!
They told me my brand new shoes and matching necklace and bracelet were not acceptable merchandise... this is how I responded...
No you are wrong! You took the merchandise! The bracelet was brand new matching the necklace. The shoes were brand new you people stole the stuff. I should have listened to the people on line! I have pictures of the stuff, I will ask you CEO what he thinks since I have his email address. You people are a joke.
I am not done with you people. You have taken from the wrong person
Did I hear from the CEO nope, nada, nothing. GO FIGURE. THE CEO obviously doesnt have a clue what goes on with THREDUP. He obviously doesnt know how to hire quality, honest employees.
Maybe the nut doesnt fall far from the tree. Maybe the CEO is in on the take!
RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY
Dont know how they can hold there head up and look in the mirror.
I am not done with this joke of a company

I decided to sell items I bought from you that I never wore and got only pennies on the dollar for things I paid good prices for from you. How can that be? If you sell something for 19.99 and I get 50 cents, and I never wore them, is that fair? Also I have had a pr. Of velvet shoes, size 10 missing for 32 days sent from GA. No matter what I send to you, you say it isn't enough. Please refund my 8.99 if you can't send them to me.

For buying, ThredUP provides some decent prices and some decent brands. BUT, do not sell your items with ThredUP unless you want to be shocked that your $85 washed, ironed, stain-free, current pair of jeans get's you $1.20. Their payouts are absolutely insulting. I have been consigning for 30 years and have NEVER seen anything like this scam.

Never Again!
June 15, 2018

First time I sent them a bag of clothes and it was great. The second time... horrible. I sent new clothes with tags and designer sneakers never worn and some only worn once. They didnt accept any of them. I will never send my clothes to ThredUP again, I rather donate them to goodwill.

We have no records
June 15, 2018

I sent 3 full bags in on 5/26, its now 6/12, and when I asked where the bags were in the process, I was told they have no record of my 3 bags. I give them my email, name, and the address they sent the bags to. 1 the day I signed up, and 2 more about 3 weeks later. The bags didnt just magically appear at my house, I ordered them with my account, now they say they never existed. Hopefully they will get their crap straight and find everything I sent.
Otherwise Im going to start believing its just a way for them to take your stuff and make money.
The jury is still out... while (according to the response I got) may take several days for someone to get back with me.

I really thought I liked Thredup until I saw a few items that I had sent in for sale on the site, and wasn't given credit for. Customer service was nice when I contacted them, but all they said was that it was from another customer's bag. How do I know that? I sent in two bags FULL of clothes... almost to the point that the bags wouldn't close, and I have received a $20 credit. How do I really know that you aren't keeping items from my bag, selling them, and not giving me credit? Oh, and then I find a place on the site that sells the 'rejects' that you didn't accept, but are selling to people in lots of 7-10 at a high price. So, are they really donating items that didn't make the cut? It just makes me wonder. I believe if you were truly donating, perhaps you could send people a donation slip for the items that weren't accepted... just a thought.

06/12/18 Update: Customer Service contacted me and asked me for the order number which I provided. They got back to me hours later telling me that my Oder was split into 4 shipments, duh! I already knew this information. They said 4 shipments but only provided info on 3 the 4th is the package that is missing! Do they even read?
They closed my case like they provided me with a solution. Ugh! So frustrating! I just sent an email to the COO and to one of the Co-Founders. Im not going to hold my breath waiting for resolution. Good luck folks!

6/11/18 So disappointed with thredup customer service. I've left 3 messages for them with zero response. My package says it was delivered, but there's nothing on the porch or in the mailbox. Does thredup not stand behind their shipping?

Still Trash
June 13, 2018
Updated review

I had a previous long review to this, so to supplement that long review, I decided to update and I don't feel my opinion on this website has changed much. Sometimes, at the post office, I see large polka dot bags and wish I could've told the sender that it's not worth sending to ThredUp.

Plus, my coworker ordered a jacket from them and it got lost in the mail. ThredUp told her to file a claim with the carrier. This shouldn't be the customer's responsibility. ThredUp knows that filing a claim with a carrier takes ages and rather you (the buyer) waste your own time doing it. ThredUp knows a large majority of people wouldn't go through that hassle and just "forget" about the issue. My coworker decided to forget about it and lost her money.

Oh, and if they somehow donate your items, they get the tax credit for it, not you. So in a way, you're giving them items so that the company can deduct it off their taxes.

Recycle clothes is a great concept, but ThredUp executed it poorly, and try to make up with it by using "cute" packaging that is so wasteful and bad for the environment..

Processing Takes Too Long
June 11, 2018
Previous review

I am reviewing as a seller: I used to use LikeTwice and I can honestly say that LikeTwice's payout was much better and their processing time was much quicker. For ThredUp, with a giant bag of accepted name brands including shoes, they only gave an average of $30 per bag full of items barely worn, or even NWT. If I could get proof that unaccepted items are going to a donation, I'd be happy, but that's not going to happen.

On average, no matter what type of item I gave or what condition it was, I almost always got less than $1.00 per item which is actually pretty disgusting. To the point where it's blatant ripping off. I got between $3-9 per item from LikeTwice before they shut down to merge with eBay.

Just to give an example of how low a payment is: I sent them in a bag full of items and they gave me a total of $40 yet all 27 items they accepted marked up on their website for sale for a total of $250+.

On top of that, it takes ThredUp weeks to process the bags. Yes, I am aware that they process a lot of people's stuff. I would forgive the long processing time, but once they give you the money, you can't cash it out immediately which is stupid; so that sort of adds to my impatience. And the only way to get the cash is if you have a PayPal account, so if you don't have that, there's no other way to receive money.

LikeTwice (when it was still here) always gave me a fair price for every item and valued my items as if I was a long-term customer and had the option to send me checks. I made at least $400+ with them within three months from stuff I sent it. One box of clothing, they gave me $118 for. It is obvious (like another reviewer said) that ThredUp is only interested in taking your clothing next to nothing, reselling and don't expect to see you ever again. I considered it a lesson learned just by looking at these numbers.

I'm also an eBay seller and I buy/sell on Facebook, but it takes too much time sometimes. Almost everything I sell looks news. Buyers always message me or people always comment how great the condition my items are and always satisfied. I sell brands like Madewell, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, J. Crew, Gap, Abercrombie, Hollister, AE, etc. So to have this website give me back so little for my items, it's heart breaking and humiliating, and not the experience I wanted. I should've known better but I thought ThredUp was going to be like Twice but they aren't.

Also, all the positive reviews here are beyond generic and fake. All "users" have one review and that one review is for ThredUp, with the account made on the same month the review was posted. ThredUp's rating was around 2 stars when I came here to view it, months ago. There's no way it spiked up to 4 stars because this company is TRASH.

I sent them a bag almost 2 months ago. I was curious to see what was taking so long since I never got an email saying it was processed. I just checked and it turns out it was processed. They just never told me. I only made $6 on a HUGE bag of very nice designer items. It seems they took the worst ones too not even the designer stuff showed up in my "accepted items" seems really sketchy. Definitely a rip off.

I really like threadUP, there app is laid out well, it's easy to navigate, and search features are great. I find myself looking through this multiple times a day. Clothing and shoes are given two views for each item, this works great.
Descriptions could be better, like accurately show material, petite, women.
Shipping is a bit slow, but the packaging is nice and neat. Returns are quick and easy.
Prices for the most part suck, suck, suck. Most of the prices are barley under the original new prices. In fact with store coupons I can get them 20% cheaper.
The prices they give to purchase your clothing, handbags & accessories is ridiculously low especially in comparison to the prices they charge.
If I find a product I like, I go to Amazon or another web site to find the product, compare the prices and get a better description and usually find that buying it elsewhere is the better deal.
This could be the best thing ever if the prices was reasonable!

I sent in a bag about a month ago, finally got processed. Nearly everything was NWT or barely used, good name brands. They only accepted 8 items, 3 of which were held back for "consignment". From the 5 items that were deemed 'worthy' to sell immediately, my payout was $3. Comparing that to the price ThredUp is selling them for, I am barely getting 5% of the profit. Now I'm wondering if I'm even going to be able to get my measly $3 after reading the reviews here, but I'm posting this under an assumed name so they don't hose me either further. It would be a waste of time to 'dispute' this with them, I sent in my clothes in good faith and my 'reward' is 5% of their profit. Facts are facts, I learned the hard way, don't make the same mistake I did.

I used them years ago, the payoffs were much better, so something happened... greed, I assume.

DON'T SEND YOUR CLOTHES TO THREDUP. THEY ARE A RIPOFF.

Frustration!
June 4, 2018

This is my first order from threadup and surely the last one. I followed the instruction to set up a return. Received an email for the link but the link doesn't work at all. When I tried to use the "help" from their site, it takes me to the Q&A! To be honest, you don't save much from this site compared to the sale price from Macy's or Tabolt, and their customer service is so much better. Don't waste your time and money on this site!

I sent in a huge bag full of name brand clothes. A lot with tags still on them. Stuff that was hard to part with... they accepted almost everything in my bag and I paid the $10 to have what they didnt accept sent back to me. They have sold ALL of my clothes for between $20 and $25. My pay out total ended up being $16... then minus the $10 I payed for the bag return equals a little less than $6. This was a few months ago and it has bothered me so much to see how much they are making and paying out so poorly. Do NOT use this site.

This is the first time I have ever written a bad review about a business. I prefer to contact the company's customer service and give them a chance to help me with my problem or complaint. However, I can not get through to this company by email or phone. I ordered two items a few weeks ago just before leaving on vacation. The company never confirmed the orders, nor sent me a way of tracking the packages. I thought that the order didn't go through and was prepared to reorder, but both packages were delivered while I was gone. One item was nothing like I thought I ordered so I tried to return it. But there is no history on my account of the transaction. I can not click on the item I want to return and get a return label.
I have tried emailing the company, several times with no response. I found their "customer service" phone number on yellowpages.com and have called, repeatedly, left messages with no response. It is ironic that I can't contact this company, since they send me "teaser" emails several times a week. I've considered sending the item back with a letter, paying the shipping myself and asking for a refund, but after reading all these bad reviews, I feel that would be useless.

I've also sent a number of very full bags with mixed results. Mostly, I and have the same questions plus-what do they really do with the unaccepted items? Sent them a current pair of designer tall suede boots (reminded me of an ex boyfriend...). Got nothing for them. I won't pay the high price for returning items. There's no logging, explanation or notification that the rejected items were really donated to non-profits. They could do a lot with this business but until Thredup improves customer service and accountability, it's not looking like a good bet.

I've sold mostly clothing with ThredUp for a couple of years. My confidence grew and I began to send in some more high end items, some new with tags or barely worn.

The last bag I sent to them had several new pieces of designer jewelry and a designer handbag (never worn with dust bag). All but one of these items went missing! No credit, no explanation as to what happened to them. Just gone.

My attempts to contact customer service were infuriating. I asked about the jewelry and I was sent a dismissive response that didn't address my questions. They told me the items had holes, were pilled or stained. I wrote back, asking to speak to a manager and received another dismissive response that didn't address my issues. It said the items were discolored.

I know for a fact that there was no damage or discoloration to these items! I inspected them before sending them in and some had never even been worn!

I assume the response was from the same shady employee who did not sign their name and did not forward my concerns to a manager like I had asked.

These people are crooks! They took my items and didn't credit me for them and offered no legitimate explanation. It seemed like the customer service person was just making things up.

This is complete negligence and downright theft! Do not bother with this company! They will take your items and not credit you for them! Horrible!
