ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I send them a kit and two months later it is still not processed they kept pushing back the processing date of my kit by a month. This happened three times. I messaged them multiple times requesting my items back and never got a single response. Honestly, your better off going to Plato's Closet at least they have real customer service. They are lucky to receive one star.
I ordered 13 items and was charged $231 None of the items I purchased where over $10 each so I don't understand this and i was a new customer so I was supposed get 50 percent off.
I ordered a purse from Thredup that was just under $100. In the description it stated that it was a leather handbag. When I received the handbag it was clearly not leather. This place is a rip off! Stay away!
So I knew I was raking a leap of faith, but when my "new" things arrived I was disappointed. Being a retailer I relished the thought of purchasing some vintage pieces from J Crew. I ordered 4 skirts and a shirt. Thank goodness I did not spend much as really only 1 thing is wearable. No fun! Think I will pass from now on!
I had ordered a luxury brand handbag from THREDUP and it came as a counterfeit item which I am very upset about it. I reached out to customer service through email and they are very friendly on helping me with a manual return ( AT FIRST). And the return had been almost two months in transit as I keep on checking the tracking on Fedex. I contacted customer service and I got no reply's at all. Like they literally ignore me when I email them again. And I spent hundred of dollars for the counterfeit bag. I will update you guys on the return but I doubt it. I just checked the tracking and it indicated that it's delivered today on 4/29/20 and I shipped it on 3/18/20.
UPDATE: I have received full refund back to my bank account after they received the return package within 2 days; but the emails that I sent out have no replies at all. I'm glad I get my money back but Thredup need to be more professional on customer service.
The items were wore out and the size was off due to the items being old. I tried to return and it took over a month. I opened the box and sent it back ASAP. They said the items were not returned in good quality, interesting since I literally opened and put right back. It was a learning lesson and I will never do this again and would hope other people save the waist of money. $1.99 to restock, spend the extra money and go to the store. Horrible and definitely don't recommend it
I just got a Goody Box, which is one of their newer services. It's fun, and I like being surprised, but seriously- did they even look at my style profile? It appears they took some items from my favorites, but my favorites does not mean it's something I would personally wear. It could be something I was thinking of getting for a friend, or just a dress that was artistically inspiring. That's what Style Profiles are for, to personalize the Goody Box to the buyer. Out of the entire box of 10 items, I only ended up keeping 2, and one was something I was on the fence about- I just didn't want to only keep one item out of the whole thing. I prefer darker, tighter clothes, and it's almost like they purposely sent the exact opposite- items that are loose and pink or white. I even indicated that my style was more edgy athleisure streetwear, and they sent me stuff that's more suited for a spring-time white girl. Hopefully this was just an isolated incident, because I would like to try this service again.
Also, many of the clothes in the box sent to me were not as high quality as it looked in the pictures. In fact, one of the dresses I received was completely missing the ribbon it was pictured with, as well as the loops on the dress to hold the ribbon being broken. The dress itself was also very wrinkly, and they wanted $25 for it. Personally, I believe some of the items are a bit overpriced as well. There was another dress sent to me with the price of $35-ish, which looks alarmingly identical to a dress I got from Walmart of all places that was way more comfortable and only $11-ish.
It would be nice to know who the stylist was in the future, as well as having a form of communication with them. I understand that it's supposed to be a bit of a mystery box, but it's not supposed to be completely randomized. Even just having a name attached to the order, like "This box was stylized by Sarah M., and I chose this for you because____" Y'know? Because some of these items seem way outside of what I have said I liked, I would just like to know the reason why they chose them for me.
I have ordered two Vera Bradley purse, s the first one was described as a shoulder bag when it arrived it was a tiny purse with short handles that would never fit on your shoulder I tried again this time the purse was the right size but faded and vary used looking it had been described as gently used I am very unhappy with thredup I will not be ordering from them again Nancy Doyle
Hat was folded and sent in mylar envelope, ruined.
A shirt had nothing but piling, disgusting.
Clothing is not pictured correctly - they tie EVERYTHING in the back to make it appear fitted when most are not.
In February I sent them 2 large bags of clothes, shoes and purses. They notified me that they received them. They have not listed the items or sent them back to me. I did get a notification to contact customer service, that is impossible. I have been trying over and over. I want my items returned to me. They have not done what they were supposed to do. What a rip off.
I ordered three pairs of tennis shoes. I wear a size 5 1/2 in women's and sometimes that's a hard size to find. What they sent me was a size 6 1/2 woman and a size 5 1/2 in men's which is a size 7 in women. I've been trying to get a refund as it was not my fault the sizes were wrong
DO NOT USE THREDUP! I just sent in a bag that was STUFFED with a lot of Victorias Secret items that were BRAND NEW WITH TAGS! And only 3 NON VS items were deemed worthy - an old sweater, an old hoodie, and an altered skirt! All the T-shirts WITH TAGS, dresses WITH TAGS and other items were deemed "NOT ACCEPTABLE" how is something BRAND NEW WITH TAGS not acceptable? And just to be clear, the VS stuff was TSHIRTS! Check the BBB website... they have a ONE STAR consumer rating with 452 COMPLAINTS!
Returns take over a month to get credit. I've had items I returned as far back as March 8,2020 and still no credit. Also, when shopping numerous errors and $1.99 fee to return. Absolutely no way to contact customer service, no email, no phone, no chat.
No customer service, no phone number to contact customer service, no email or chat with customer service. I have returns I sent back as far back as March 6, 2020 and still have not received store credit. Shopping isn't easy either. Numerous errors and they charge $1.99 to return the item and read above, returns take approx a month to get credit, sometimes longer.
I've used thredup numerous times and thought they were great 3-5 years ago but they've gone totally downhill. There's an option to reclaim kit, and even when you add it they haven't been sending items back and I see my "unwanted" Designer items listed instead of returned to me! WTF!?
I would also like to add pricing. Apparently they think j. Crew is worth the same as Chloe etc. Buyers have no idea.
Lastly, Customer Service is a joke. Can't get in calling and email/chat is about as helpful as a dirty broom.
At the end of the day I recommend taking it to a local second hand shop or listing it yourself on Poshmark or eBay. Good luck.
Not only do they sell nice clothes for way too cheap, your payout is pathetic. On top of that if you decide to have your items returned the return fee is $10.99. So every time one of my items sold I wasn't getting the $. 5 0r $6 because they were taking it for the $10.99 fee. A site that knows it pays out about $. 5-$10 should not charge such a high return fee, what a joke.
Their site says this:
If a Clean Out Bag has Return Assurance added, a fee of $10.99 will be deducted from your Clean Out Bag earnings
If all items are accepted from a Clean Out Bag, no fee will be charged
If there are not sufficient earnings from the Clean Out Bag to cover the fee, the remainder of the fee will be deducted from the user's account balance if available
Well, all of my items were accepted and yet they still charged me.
I ordered 5 items and kept 2. All were on the small side. One was so small, though marked "medium" from the Old Navy, that I thought it might have been a children's size. It had clearly been shrunk which is one issue they say they don't accept. I am generally a size small at the Gap, Old Navy, etc. All the items were marked medium, none of them were a true medium size. I liked the swimsuit top and cashmere hoodie, they were on the small size but I kept them. They were good value for the price. I would suggest that ThredUp take a look at their sizing metrics. Otherwise, it is for juniors and adolescents or women who don't eat. Sadly, all the unacceptable items were "final" sale. Off to Goodwill.
I sent some clothes to Thred UP. They picked six items which all sold. I requested my money and put in my payment information correctly. Then I got a message from the service they apparently use called Stripe that they could not deposit my money into my account. When I emailed them back, they said I had to contact ThredUP. I did so and they never responsed. Finally my 3rd email got some attnetion after a month. However, they continued to give my wrong answers and I tried to clarify. They would not give me a phone number to call. I finally gave up. They owed me $22 but it was too much trouble to continue to pursue. So they sold my clothes and i got $0.
If you send in a bag to sell, it has taken OVER THREE WEEKS and still marked "in transit"! When you email customer service(terribly named), they tell you to chat... with over 5 min delay time?! My stuff will be out of season and I should've WALKED it there from Chicago? Then the stuff they sell and mail for a fee is very wrongly advertised!
Totalled wrinkled lace dress -NOT fixable (even by a dry cleaner) too short, snagged and one thing (that's of course not returnable-when were you going to tell me THAT!)I wouldn't wash my car with(it's cheap polyester and totally different from photo colors)
Do the environment a favor: donate to the poor your used clothes, and get a tax write off -give the poor a job and keep postal service trucks off the streets... OVER three weeks to arrive and be sold?!
Not impressed. I used them before when my kids were very little and maybe i was less picky. Or maybe the quality of their merchandize went straight down, i dont know. Ordered nearly $200 worth of kids clothing. Overall seems like a good deal, i got at least 30 items, many final sales items. However, as the merchandize started to arrive (they ship it in like 6 packages, no kidding), i became more and more dissapointed. Purchased a pair of shoes for my 5 year old that were advertized as size 13. Shoes arrive and they are... infant booties. What? What am i supposed to do with these? Ordered a uniform shirt, a plain navy polo for my son, advertized as nearly new, could be mistaken for new, size 10-12. What arrives is a stretched out husky size polo. Dont get me wrong, there are acceptable good deal items, especially the dresses for my 5 year old. But along with it, you get a lot of junk. Total unusable junk. Mind you, returns suck. They want $2 restocking fee for each item. Ummm really? And you pay shipping back. Awsome. I honestly would have been better off spending $200 on fewer thing at a normal store. Not impressed.
Finding information about how account credits work and finding customer support contact methods are not user friendly. Once I found customer contact and sent a question about my sales not being credited to my account, it has been a week and still no reply.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
