ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I've ordered from them twice this month. Everything came fast and boxed up so pretty. Clothes were exactly as advertised and looked like new. For those complaining about consigning with them, you people do realize they are in business for a profit? You're not going to get a lot for your stuff because they sell cheap and still need to make something off of what they post. Greedy consumers.
Recently things have changed. I used to send in bags of clothes and have the money it sold for available in my account which would keep growing everytime an item sold. Now it takes a long time for my bags to be processed and I get emails saying an it has sold for a certain amount but when I check my account balance the only money it shows I have is the cost of that particular item. The amount is not growing even though other items are selling and when I try to contact customer service they say the money will only be available when my entire bags sells but does say when or how much
We're both a little hard to fit and have strong preferences in clothing, so we love being able to go online and get things that are perfect for us without endless hours of searching, trying on, finding something great and then not seeing it in the right size, or getting sticker shock. Several times a year, we get his seasonal wardrobe--he's 8, but just 4 feet tall and 45 lbs. I know the brands and styles that will fit him, and he can pick and choose among items I've put in the cart from the comfort of the couch. And I've packed for vacations or business trips in different climates from the women's section easily, because getting great quality clothing from all over the country means I don't have to be limited to Seattle's current styles and what's in stores for the weather. This might be true of all online apparel shopping, but with ThredUp I can get four or five great pieces for what I'd spend on one elsewhere. Better cost than Amazon, better quality than eBay, and fantastic reliable service. ♡♡♡
I am so glad I found Thred up, it has been such a blessing to me, I am a busy mom with a tight budget ( hav 5 kids) Thred up has allowed me to find great clothes at a great price I lov it! And I also sell to them as well so I keep money in my account for when I need something such a awesome find!
Two of the items I ordered were not the sizes listed. The pants are too short by 2 inches and the jacket is a small, as listed, the problem is it's a men's small not a woman's small. Extremely disappointed! I will never order from this company again.
What a joke, four items Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Gap only paid 4.75! The rest of a hug bag was apparently not acceptable. Stick to consignment stores, this is a scam!
Horrible! $11 payout for a bag of Prada, Miu Miu and Theory! Only worn once! Some employee is probably wearing my expensive clothing! I asked my local consignment shop what they would have paid me based on the photos I took of my items and they said $200-$300!
I love buying baby clothes from Thredup. Always in very nice condition and perfect price for me to buy my grand daughter a new wardrobe every few months without breaking the bank.
For years I've been looking for a place to consign my clothing and this online store has more than met my needs. In addition to getting some quick cash for my items, I've been able to use my website credits to purchase items needed for the current season. Surprisingly I have received excellent quality garments at a very reasonable price that more than surpassed my expectations due to ThredUp's quality standards. I recommend this to all my family and friends as well as patients at work.
I have been shopping with Thredup for a couple of years, and I decided to try a clean out bag. After waiting for nearly two months for them to "process" the bag (which was huge and full), I received an email saying I had earned $21.90. Half of the things in the bag were designer brands and new with tags. One of the items was an $80.00 dress, new with tags, and never worn. I contacted thier customer service department and received no reply. Don't waste your time trying to sell with them. It's a major scam.
Being a mom, I've been changing clothing sizes all over the place the last couple of years. ThredUp has really helped me keep up to date with my wardrobe. I'm able to trade in the clothes that don't fit anymore and purchase new clothes for myself or my kids. Ordering a cleanout bag is simple and easy, and I just put it right in the mail with no hassle. While the payout isn't great, it's more money than I would have gotten by leaving the clothes that I don't wear in my closet. Plus if something doesn't fit, the free returns are super easy. It's also great for my kid's clothes. I got my daughter's Halloween costume on ThredUp this year for under $10! I also love that they added a new East Coast shipping facility. My orders have been coming much faster lately.
I suppose thredUP can afford to be picky about what items they accept for resale, since they seem to have quite a large selection. However, I've been turned off to using this site after attempting to sell with them... The estimated payouts are almost laughable.
I sent in a large bag of clothes and only recived $1.90 for 2 shirts that sold on the site. $1.90 for TWO SHIRTS! It was a total waste of my time. I could of got more if I sold it at a consignment store down the street.
I've never sold anything through thredUP, so I don't know how that goes.
I have bought from them a few times, and the transactions have mostly gone smoothly. Last time I purchased some tops for work, and they refunded me for one of them, with the explanation "It wasn't up to their standards". Ok, but I kinda wanna know what's actually wrong with the top, as I might be able to fix it. Their shipping is cheap, but suuuuper slow. The prices are great though!
The time it takes to process the bags is very long, I had a bag that took over a month once it arrived before it was processed. I think I will still to taking my items to local cosignment and I will buy a few things from the site.
I bought few items and I was very surprised with the quality. So I decided to send few handbags in mint condition to sell. The first problem was that they do not inform you on how much you are going to make - not even an estimate. So you are pretty much on the dark. They "eat" 40% of the selling price which I found absurd. One of my items is marked as RESERVED since forever - it's been a month. So I am not sure what's up with that. I would rather have sold on eBay.
I LVE ThredUP! I have 3 year old twin girls... great deals, fast shipping and prompt customer service. Website is easy to navigate and I love the ability to refine searches, i. E size, color, style. Item descriptions are very helpful, from new with tags to describing minimal flaws... You know exactly what you are getting... I have gotten several friends hooked as well. Try it, you'll love it too!
Sometimes i am disappointed in the number of clothing that they SAY that they are NOT accepting (some name brand; not things
That are on their do not accept list). No i don't want to pay to have them sent back,. But part of me wonders if they still sell it and i just don't get credit for it...
I have only ordered not sold from thedup, but I have been extremely happy with everything I have ordered! I have had to return one pair of jeans and that was very easy to do, I just used the money from the return to buy something else. I think the worst thing I have to say is, after I order I can hardly wait for the merchandise get to my house! When the box gets to your house and you open it up, it defiantly reminds me of my stitch fix box! The items are all wrapped up in pretty paper with a nice sticker. I have told others about thredup I am not sure if they have ordered but I do know when I want something, I will check thredup first before looking else where.
I send in brand new name cloth a lot of them max i got was 28 box... and they were not even open from the bag. We moved and my stuff was in storage and my kids got big so i had to sell them each jacket or pants cost me over 35 getting 28 box for over 20 item is so on fair if i asked them to send them back i have to pay 12.99. Keep getting the email my item got sold good job but so want i do not get money when they money so i do not recommend it... i have no other options. Second hand store only buy up to size 10... for over 3000 new kids item only got 200 max and getting money though pay pal still loose more money... so unfair..
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
