I'm considering this resolved with 2 stars. GetARoom contacted me via email and voicemail upon seeing my review, and promptly credited the room fee. The $7.99 service fee came from a third party booking agency CCI Hotel Reservation so GetARoom couldn't credit it. I've spent enough time on this so I'll just eat the $7.99.
Consumers beware that there are third party booking agencies involved that charge fees. Because of this and the strict cancellation policy, I will not use GetARoom in the future. I'll be much more careful and may just book with the hotel directly which might cost more, but no confusion.
I feel strongly that this should have been resolved the night I booked it in error at the wrong location (Bowling Green Kentucky instead of Bowling Green Ohio when I called immediately, no location switch or refund, there should be some flexibility.) I was able to get it credited only after posting negative reviews. Spending a lot of time and energy chasing it around after-the-fact is bad business.
Initial Review: Do not use this site to book hotel rooms! I accidentally booked Hampton Inn Bowling Green KY instead of Bowling Green OH. Yes, my mistake, I should've paid closer attention... I realized my mistake and called GetARoom immediately. I was told due to strict cancellation policy they wouldn't offer a refund or even change the location from KY to OH. I called the Bowling Green KY location directly, they were totally fine with cancelling and provided authorization to GetARoom to cancel, but GetARoom wouldn't do it. They couldn't charge my credit card fast enough. I'm now getting my Visa to remove the charge. Horrible customer service and inflexible policies! Do not use!
**Amendment** - Once I posted the below, Getaroom did call me to resolve my issue and provided a refund of the 'tax'. Very pleasant customer service lady (unlike the original person I called) but slightly disappointingly their customer services are in the USA so the international call cost me £16.
Their website goes out of its way to mislead you! They advertise a cheap rate and it is only on the page that you enter your booking details that they add an imaginary tax, drastically increasing the overall charge. Calling their customer service is a waste or time and effort (despite calling within minutes of my reservation), as they will basically tell you it was your mistake booking with them and they can't be bothered to assist. A disgrace to the travel industry, don't ruin your trip by booking with them!

I wasted days trying to book a room on this website. Not only did not one of my attempts to book go through at the end, but each time I tried it still sent a pending charge to my credit card company who in turn locked my credit card. After I contacted my credit card company, I called the number instead trying to book the hotel and spent 45 minutes on the phone picking one room after another with the same results. Total frustration. Don't waste your time!

The sales representative misrepresented himself, he let me to believe he was working for the hotel. I specifically asked him several times how he knew what I was looking for as I thought I had click on the hotel reservation website. I had no intentions of booking my reservation with a sales company, I found out when I received the email confirmation and it wasn't the normal formal email confirmation from the hotel with all the hotel information maps and directions. The email confirmation I received was plain the ink was lo light I could barely read it. It had not information for the hotel, it should at least include a link to the hotel with information, address, phone number, etc... Also the agent quoted me a price for the room of $97 per night, during the span of the call the quote he gave me was no longer available and it went up to $110 per night, I thought that was very ridiculous. In addition, the resort fee of $30.50 per night I told him it was higher than what the hotel indicated on the website and he said that it was correct, I still was under the impression he was an employee making reservations for the hotel, so I mentioned to him why he was charging me $2.50 higher than what the hotel had listed on the website and that he should honor the rate and he said he was not able to. He should have said to me that he was not working for the hotel and that the company that he works for charges higher than the hotel and he should have identified himself with the GetARoom third party hotel reservation service company that is completely independent from the hotel. In addition, the cancellation policy is ridiculous, the consumer should at least get a three day waiting period to make the sale final. Good business practice and consumer protection and good customer service requires this flexibility. To make the reservation a final sale at the time of the phone call it is absolutely ridiculous. If you ask me if I would recommend GetARoom it would be absolutely No, and if you ask me if I would consider using GetARoom in the future, my answer would also be absolutely not.

This company acts and leads you to believe that they are the hotel you are booking with. Used a bank card to hold the room but low and behold they billed me on that card. So got hit with a nice over draft payment from my bank. They took the money out of my account 2 days before we even got our room. Tried to get a hold of someone in customer service that took a act of God 5 automated phone calls later (they do not have a customer service line on their website) got to finally talk to a human being and her answer was sorry about that but I can't do anything for you. The room was $60 more going through them than the hotel directly. So add my bank surcharge and it became a very expressive night.

May appear the cheapest when you do a search for a specific hotel/date, but always check prices include the VAT - not an issue for businesses who can reclaim the taxes but in the UK, we are used to consumer prices being quoted as including 20% VAT. There may also be a "service charge" bumping the costs for the privilege of routing your money via the US. Having said that, Getaroom customer services were very responsive when we complained so that brings the rating back up

My sister-in-law found a price on line for our upcoming visit to San PedroBest Western Plus Hotel. She was in charge of booking for them and us. We were not made aware that the second room charge would be much higher tan the first although the rooms were alike. I found this out on my confirmation page. I called to try to have the error corrected and was told that my alternative was to cancel but we would still be charged. The attendant then offered me a 15% discount which I unhappily agreed to. The discount has not shown up on my confirmation site. I am pretty disgusted with this site. We are still making our trip but some of the joy was taken out of our stay. You need to know this is a terrible way to keep customers.

IT WAS A EASY PROCESS, BUT I WISH THAT IT DIDN'T CHARGE MY CARD RIGHT AWAY. GOING FORWARD I'LL BE PREPARED FOR THAT AND WILL USE GETAROOM AGAIN. I DID HAVE TO CANCEL DO TO SCHEDULE CONFLICT AND THAT ALSO WAS VERY EASY.
Be aware of this "xxhotel.guestreservations.co" website. They are from "getaroom" agent, which mislead you and charge huge amount of so call "tax recovery charges & service fees" it made your cost for staying at least 30% higher then what it should be. Be alert! They speak like the reservation dept of that hotel, but not!

Watch this company and STAY FAR AWAY. They show up on hotel sites and make you think you are booking directly with the hotel. I booked a room and with 3 minutes realized I entered the incorrect check out date, I call them immediately and was to there are no refunds. After three calls to them getting no where, I spoke with the Asst Gen Mgr and Hilton Garden Inn. After telling me they are a 3rd party company she explained that she would only charge me for one night and that when this company saw that I would get a refund for the 2nd night. This company charged $12.99 for this nightmare, took my funds from my bank immediately when I booked, for the 18th and to date I still DO NOT HAVE MY REFUND. PLEASE ONLY CALL THE HOTELS DIRECTLY TO AVOID THIS TERRIBLE ORDEAL

Went to book a room was redirected to getaroom, decided to call in person. Booked a king size jacuzzi suite and paid the rate. Find out that I was booked into a wheelchair room with a queen bed. Complete scammers and wouldn't recommend to anyone

Have never never dealt with a company that had such unethical business practices. I booked a room not knowing it was a 3rd party. Immediately, (less than 5 min) after receiving the email I called to simply change the date and was told that I could not do so and would have to make a new reservation. I have since called multiple times trying to speak to someone about changing the date and continuously denied the opportunity of even speaking with a supervisor. I have been charged $290.00 for a room I won't be using.

SCAMMERS. I hope they get caught. You cancel you pay full amount. So why cancel? This alone is fraudulent. They also use the hotel name at the top of the URL to get you to think you are on the hotel website very fraudulent scam. I made a reservation and then found out it was through a third party website and not the hotel website. I was advised that I cannot book through a 3rd party website and 10 minutes later, I called them and told them that I need to cancel and that person (J... n) said I would have to pay the full amount even if I cancelled and did not help at all. So now I have to pay cash out of my pocket for a room on a business trip and stay in another paid room because I had to book it through the hotel directly. I am now going to other review sites to let people know.

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
