Anthropologie - great clothes if you can get them and if (good luck) you can reach customer service. For years, Anthropologie was my "go to" choice for interesting, fashionable, "different" clothing items. But lack of service sent me to Saks, Banana Republic, Not Your Daughter's Jeans, JCrew, and other competitors, especially online.
Today, I decided to give it one more try because there were a few items I couldn't find elsewhere. Late last night (wee hours), I placed a major order. I woke up to find it was canceled! No explanation - canceled the entire order of over 10 items (not on sale). I tried to call customer service and was on hold for 40 minutes, then disconnected. I called back and selected the option for Anthropologie to call me back: never happened.
Then, I placed an order for three of the items - and it seems to have gone through. Separately, I placed an order for one more item - three times - and three times got a cancellation with no reason. I finally called the local store that told me the item is on back order (I knew that from the information online but placed the order - willing to wait).
OK, so these days, real customer service is hard to find. But Anthropologie seems to have reverted to a business model characterized by disdain for the customer, arrogance about its ability to get business with no customer service, and a total disregard for all of us whose money enables it to exist. Well, not this customer - not any more.

I bought a jacket through the online service. Anthropologie sent two jackets rather than just the one that I paid for. I brought the extra jacket back to the store to return it and was told that it was rightfully mine and that I should just keep it. Since I did not feel that that was the honest thing to do, I then went home and called the online service. They proceeded to act like this was my fault and that I had done something wrong! I feel like I went the extra mile to be honest by going to both the store AND calling the online service. I expected to at least receive a thank you for pursuing the return. At this point, I am going to avoid Anthropologie and its affiliates (Urban Outfitters and Free People) in the future given this TERRIBLE treatment by their representatives.

Purchased two sofas around September 2019. It has been an unending series of errors on their part since then (it is now Oct 2020): wrong orientation, wrong pieces, wrong size, wrong color, wrong fabric, one order was cancelled AFTER 3 months of waiting because they weren't making the item in that color anymore EVER AGAIN, only to be told later they would, but only after we had already moved forward designing a space around the new color. Keep in mind that between each of these errors you will be waiting 2 to 3 and possibly 4 months before the NEXT mistake is sent to you. We had to give up one one item completely because they haven't gotten it right after a year. A YEAR! To date (and forever no doubt) this is the most unprofessional experience we have ever endured.

I ordered four items from Anthropologie. Firstly, everything is completely overpriced and low quality here. Secondly, after paying for shipping my order was lost. I finally found it going to the WRONG LOCATION. I couldn't change the final destination and I spent half a day trying to change the address. I talked to a manager at Anthropologie who assured me the address was changed. The address was never changed, and nothing could be done to resolve the issue, according to the company. It was constantly pass the buck whether it be talk to the shipping carrier or contact the sister store. Finally, the items were sent out in FOUR separate boxes. Use a different service like Nordstroms Rack, BCBG, Free People, or Zara.

A disaster
May 7, 2018

This is my first order from Anthropologie so far it has been a disaster. When I placed the order I had to telephone customer service as I was not prepared to pay the shipping cost I was persuaded that the quickest way was to place the order & then she would refund this cost the website was by the way advertising free delivery. The refund didnt happen so the next member of staff said they couldnt refund I then instructed them to cancel the order. A 3rd member of staff then agreed to the refund although still not received.
Part of the order arrived instead of 2 cushion covers I received1 & a black skirt I am still waiting for advice about returning this as you have to wait 70 hours between emails why?
If you make so many mistakes as a retailer you need to sort it out as soon as possible I now have no confidence in this retailer

AVOID AVOID AVOID!
May 22, 2020

If you want to (1) Wait a long time for your item; (2) Pay to return the item (although almost all companies are offering free returns right now); (3) Be told to go to the store instead to return despite Covid-19; (4) Have your items not match what is described... then go ahead and shop here. I do alot of online shopping and very disappointed in the quality of the items for the price point and the overall customer experience. AVOID AVOID AVOID if can! There's better out there!

Worst customer service
September 16, 2020

Horrible, horrible service. I used to have a wedding registry on their site; I received a gift that I had originally registered for but had changed my mind about, and decided to return it for credit. Despite repeated assurances along the way that the gifter would NOT be notified about this exchange, I was informed that the process was completed when the gifter messaged me to ask why anthropolgie had credited their credit card. Customer service was of absolutely NO help - they offered to rectify the situations by giving me store credit in the value of the gift by CHARGING the card of the individual who had gifted me in the first place. Absolutely no shame. And this was after three e-mails (with boiler-plate responses of apologies for inconvenience), and two calls.

I wanted to order a small, but not inexpensive, ottoman but refused to pay a $150 shipping fee. When I called customer service, I spoke with very condescending, unhelpful representatives (Jessica and Joannah, specifically). Almost every other furniture retailer, including Ballard, Urban Outfitters, West Elm, Crate and Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, World Market, Pottery Barn - the list goes on - has a cheaper flat-rate, or a more fair per-item shipping fee. Why does Anthropologie think they can swindle their customers? When I told Jessica I would no longer be shopping at Anthropologie, her response was a curt, "Ok." This company DOES NOT value its customers.

Don't Waste Your Money
October 2, 2022

Although many of the clothes on Anthropologie are nice, BUYER BEWARE! Here are some things to consider before buying from Anthropologie: (1) Sizes are not always accurate. (2) Descriptions are not always accurate. (3) You get dinged for returning anything, approximately $6 per item. AND THIS IS HUGE: (4) If you return and request your money back, they can take up to a month to refund your money! (5) Clothes are way to expensive to have to hassle for a refund. And while you are waiting, they bombard you with emails trying to get you to spend more money! BOTTOM LINE: Customer service is poor, and returns are a real hassle. I have NEVER had to wait a month to get a refund. They received items within a few days, but still would not refund for a month, so I went through our Credit Union and they took care of it.

I do very much enjoy the bold patterns and colors, and the fact that many of their designers refashion some of the older styles from the 20's, 30's and 40's eras. It's like recycling, but for fashion and what they come up with is a new look. The unfortunate thing is, that new look doesn't usually translate as "timeless".

Another downside for me, is that their sizing isn't consistent between designers. For instance, I wear an XS in their Odille line, but wear S (sometimes M) in their Walking on Snow line, which makes online ordering like a blind-folded game of darts.

The quality is meh, okay. The fabrics last, but not as long as many other brands that I buy. Even with recommended care, a silk blend shirt that cost $100+ will have to be replaced in 2-3 years. I know that may seem like a long time, but for the money... it's not that long at all, considering I can buy stuff from J. Crew for the same price that's lasted over 7 years.

Still, some of their styles are endearing, with their frills and frocks, they very much make me think of a garden tea party in the British countryside.

DONT SHOP HERE
April 18, 2020

I made 2 purchases through Anthropologie and I used PayPal. Right after I made my purchases, PayPal informed me that my account was hacked. Someone used my information and drained my bank account. I tried calling Anthropologie about it and instead of being helpful, they canceled my existing order! So I called them back asking for them to undo the cancellation and they refused to. I still have not been refunded the money I paid them originally either. It's been a few days. DO NOT SHOP HERE. YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF.

Horrible experience all round, in the 2 weeks following my order I kept getting emails that my 2 orders were about to be delivered but it was waiting for a tracking ID from a service provider. After another week I wrote to the support chat and they told me the orders had failed to be delivered and were now send back and I would need to wait for my refund.

Explaining that I never even received a tracking ID they still could not tell me when this attempt took place.
Service agent told me that I would need to wait about 1 week for my money... guess what 6 weeks after I order still no clothes nor my money back (total 450 euro).

After contacting service agents daily for a week, they start refunding me 1 item per day. The last item took another full week, telling me that the item was missing from the package and that I probably failed to put it in the package. You know the package I never got.

Finally after I ordered mid June I have all my money back as of September 14th. Never ever again.

We bought a couch on March 27 with a delivery of July. In early July, I received an email that our order was going to be postponed until October. In October it got bumped back to early Nov, then mid Nov, then late Nov, then early Dec, then mid Dec, then late Dec all the while each time it got postponed, they refunded and recharged my credit card. So now I finally called and spoke to a manager and he said he would look into it and get back to me by the end of the week (that was last week (Dec 24)). So I called today and spoke to someone and asked if there was an update on my order and the gentlemen on the phone informed me that it is now set to be delivered in June. 15 months after we ordered it and 11 months after they said it would be delivered.

Anthropologie is one of those websites that won't post negative reviews. I reviewed one of their el-cheapo "trinket dishes" that I bought for a co-worker; I gave it one star because it is deceptively described on their website with their typical handmade, "artisan," one-of-a-kind jargon, but when I received it it had a MADE IN CHINA sticker on the bottom and was packaged in that flimsy cardboard that they put stuff in when it makes a long, long transoceanic journey. It was mass-made Chinese crap, in a nutshell. This happens with a lot of their stuff. Their branding and graphics and store layouts will make you think you're getting something very special when you're not.

Posting only good reviews is deceptive and a very poor business practice. I do not trust any store that won't post a bad review. I can understand editing for profanity, etc., but if a product deserves a one-star review, it should be posted.

Other things about Anthro that piss me off: No clothing they carry will fit you if you're bigger than an 8; the jewelry they carry is total crap (mostly from Alibaba.com) at crazy prices; their shipping charges are WAY too high, especially since they use that awful Fedex-to-the-Post-Office scheme, which also makes shipping very slow; and customer service is poor to nonexistent. Anthro is all image and little substance.

Do not buy from them.
December 12, 2022

First and last time I order from this appalling company, worst experience of my shopaholic life. At the end of november I ordered two vases as a gift for a couple of friends from the US website. The items were poorly packed and one vase arrived completely destroyed. First issue but ok it happens. I immediately asked for a replacement, that was two weeks ago and I am still waiting. I have been in touch with customer care literally every three days for the past two weeks and all the time l have been given the same pointless useless and unreliable answer: we are taking care of it, your case has been raised as priority, you will receive a dispatch confirmation mail in 48 hours. I have heard this several times and yet nothing arrived, not an email, not the parcel. I feel deceived by this company. I suspect the replacement item is now out of stock but they won't tell, so what's next? I read on the other reviews that getting a refund is not that easy as well... I am so embarassed now as at somepoint I will have to tell my friends that they will probably never receive the gift I meant (and PAID) for them. Refrain from buying from this company, they don't care about their customer. Not all that glitters is gold I'm afraid.

While I absolutely love their clothes, their customer service and online ordering is horrible... no quality checks in picking items to ship. I ordered a $188 dress and received a Tshirt... I thought it was a joke or some bonus gift... but no, someone actually packed and shipped this gray measly tshirt thinking somehow it was worth a $188 or red (it was gray)... please, hire competent people. Then when I called to inform them of the mistake, they promised it was shipped out immediately for me to wear as planned (had it next day air shipped and paid the premium). Called a couple of days later to check the status, they said no it was in Quality Control Check mode (for 2 days)... so needless to say it was not shipped and still no dress with 1 day to go... then was told, probably wouldn't be able to overnight and asked why... well, UPS doesn't deliver on Saturday... I said they do if you pay for it and since they made the mistake and I had originally ordered expedited... they would deliver it to me free as expected before... so never ordering from them again! I am not in a "grab bag" type of person!

I placed an order in November for 2 Claudia Petite Swivel chairs and they arrived on March 10th both damaged. The delivery company let us keep them as loaners and today the new chairs arrived and one of them was damaged again in the same part that the other two were (bottom part of the chair). I ask you how many more rounds of deliveries do we have to receive until Anthropologie can deliver a quality piece of furniture?

When I called Anthropologie to find out if these chairs go through quality check before they leave the warehouse the representative told me that she will need to put a special request in for me for this to occur. The team needs to investigate if it's coming from Anthropologie or delivery company. How is this possible that as a company Anthropologie does not quality check their furniture prior to shipping it out, especially for custom made furniture? She said this will take 3-5 business days. Additionally, why is it my responsibility as a customer to flag this for your company to ensure your processes are working accurately? This is completely unethical that you as a company charge upward of 1K per chair and promote quality?

I have called multiple times and spoken to various representatives no one can provide support. I am writing this email in order for it to reach someone in management at Anthropologie and I sincerely hope that someone gets back to me to resolve this issue.

I have been a loyal customer to Anthropologie since 2011 but will need to seriously reassess this moving forward if someone does not reach out to come to an amicable solution soon.

I purchased $700 worth of clothes and PayPal choose the wrong payment method and PayPal stated Anthropologie pics that cord out, which I did not authorize. I called PayPal and ask them if they would change out my work card to my personal card to get this matter taken care of and they told me to contact anthropology and anthropology they would not swap cards for me so I had to go into the store return the items to get the stuff charged back to my work credit card from my work credit card to my personal credit card and this all could've been resolved now since I have did that they told me that PayPal put a security left on my account. Anthropology told me this and then I am PayPal said that they did no such thing and I am Holly upset and I have tried to call Anthropologie like 10 times and I have sent numerous emails and nobody will respond to me and I'm Holly upset that there is a lift on my account for a something I did not do and for be this was brought on by PayPal an anthropology for picking the wrong card because I specifically said which card number I wanted to use I will never do business with these cracks again
