  • Common Sense Media

7/11/16

In nearly every situation, Common Sense Media provides well-written yet succinct critiques of movies, games, music, and even websites. Unlike most other "family review" sites, they do not have an extreme Christian bias and will review any movie with an open mind. They give two ratings... one is mostly for parents, which is the recommend age for the movie.

It is very detailed and not just a rating like PG or PG-13... they will specifically explain that one movie is good for 11 and up and another might be 14 and up.

I do have one minor issue with them... they decided to give the website HomestarRunner.com a score of "15+", implying that the site would be inappropriate for anyone under 15. While I do agree with the 4/5 they gave for H*Rs quality... the fact that they think that the Brothers Chaps mostly harmless collection of flash cartoons is only for older teens and adults makes me wonder if they even watched them.

But besides that whiny rant, I actually enjoy using this site to see what they think of things. They can be trusted in most cases.

I requested my number be removed from this site so if that works out I will amend my review. But so far, it's a poor site that allows people to spread lies about others.

The latest lie about my number: "My girlfriend was called by this number and there was a creepy voice at the other end."

This is completely false and the fact that a site like this allows people to lie about me is really frustrating. I guess I have it coming with how I treat others, but I wish this site would go away.

I suppose it can be useful but I do not trust it due to my experience with it.

  • Kiwi Farms

Kiwifarms is run and used by stereotypical 4chan losers. The forum was once a wiki dedicated to "Chris chan" and now serves as a forum to mock "lolcows" aka people superior to them.

I am biased in favor of the cows because I've been one for more than five years. One of these 4chan types made a thread about me and since I joined and posted in it it never died.

My stalker from college also uses my thread to "update" people with lies about my personal life.

The good part is the forum design. You can mark posts as dumb/agree etc. More variety than most similar systems.

I recommend avoiding this 4chan hole. I sbould have stayed away.

  • LiveJournal

2/17/14

LiverJournal used to be an amazing site where I could express my deepest concerns with a couple dozen viewers (pretty much all girls around my age!) and get honest feedback about what I should do with the situations at hand.

Sadly the site has sort of died away and my friend that I knew well from LJ has not posted in almost four years. I've tried to rejuvenate my old LJ but it's not worth it.

While I never got a large amount of responses the ones I got were always genuine and helpful.

A horrible content farm that fraudulently increases its Google Search rankings. Any generic baseball-related search will lead to poorly written articles written by people dumb enough to fall for a content farm.

They should not be read. Ever.

My IPs, both home and mobile, are blocked from using this site.

They tell me to use a competitor instead.

I have emailed them and contacted them on social media.

Instead of rectifying the situation, they continue to post banal memes on their Twitter page

Yet another of the many anonymous email sending sites out there. People use this to send nasty and cruel emails. You know the sort. Pathetic losers with no lives that don't understand how the world works.

  • Vox Media

9/21/19

Make one rude article/blog on a sports site (McCovey Chronicles) and you get banned from Vox and all their subsidiaries like The Verge. I've tried to request access to their sites again but I expect nothing will come of it.

I wish there were more online chat platforms beyond Vox, Facebook, and Disqus.

  • Facebook

10/28/16

Facebook on the surface seems like a great place. You can make new friends or reconnect with old ones. But once you get on the wrong side of the punishments you will see the full picture.

If you posted some risky or otherwise inappropriate content you can expect a block. It starts out as a short block, as little as an hour. It will eventually reach 30 days.

Most of the time the blocks will occur just hours after your post is made, meaning someone reported your post and Facebook decided to take action.

But sometimes it will be many months after a post is made that the punishment occurs. I am currently two days into a 30 day block for a post made about 8 months ago.

Facebook may not be the one to blame here. It is very likely I have a stalker who digs through older posts to report me and get me in trouble months after the fact.

If you ever get this punishment it is in your best interest to go through your older posts and remove any that might get you in trouble. Because otherwise you might get another unjust block.

If Facebook weren't so overzealous with retroactive blocks I would rate them highly.

  • BugMeNot

As someone who has written for a site that was behind a paywall (SFDugout.com 2003-06), I really wish someone would just shut this site down for good and send the creator to federal pound me in the $#*! prison.

This is a site for lazy evil people who want to access paid/premium content but won't pay for it. Anyone using this site is my enemy and I will murder you with my mind.

Tip for consumers:
kill yourself

  • Amazon

2/13/14

Amazon itself is usually very reliable, but their "Amazon Payments" in conjunction with Kickstarter is clunky and frustarting. I tried to change my payment for a Kickstarter project and they told me my account was "disable" because they "couldn't verify" my information.

Now I must fax them my driver's license and to make it worse, the reward I wanted was limited and now there are no more. Kickstarter should use something better than Amazon Payments.

Once you've earned a permanent suspension (usually for a relatively minor infraction), they will go out of their way to keep you off the site.
Step 0: Suspending you
Step 1: Suspending any name on the same IP.
Step 2: Locking you out entirely with a phony "wrong password" error.

This is very shady.

It doesn't matter if the password is correct; they will say it's not to keep you away.

They will suspend new accounts that don't even post within an hour if they decide you're a "bad user."

The admins must try to be this useless. It can't be an accident.

  • Sporcle

9/24/13

There are many excellent quizzes on Sporcle, and the userbase is very creative in developing various games such as mine puzzles.

Their customer support is excellent. Despite being a completely free website, their email responses have been quicker and more informative than other companies that I was a paying customer for... Comcast and PG&E.

It's very exciting to see the new quizzes each day.

  • Craigslist

5/8/12

A lot of the jobs on here are pretty shady, unless you know what to search for and how to detect scams. The dating section is pretty much a joke... it's all about reading hilarious and disturbing entries, not actually dating anyone there.

Vox
  • Vox

6/15/22

Vox bans for random comments on blogs unrelated to them entirely. It is a large conglomerate that includes SBNation and others. The news is biased and left-wing. About as bad (and newsworthy) as Buzzfeed.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful what you post online anywhere. They will get you banned from Vox because they own so many sites.

Banned words: "Glenn Beck, CuckingFunt, Sperglord"

I run 92 Nations based on me, tomi lahren, and otherz.

Some people are annoying, if you make a region and leave it unguarded it gets "invaded".

Tip for consumers:

Clay and his wife Dee have been running this company for more than 20 years. The product has remained amazing over the years and I stand by them. Others may prefer a "fancier" game like Out of the Park Baseball but I prefer something that doesn't eat up computer resources.

I wish they could have hired me to do something, but TBH I don't think my skillset would help them at all, and they probably don't have the time or resources to hire more employees than they have.

  • Rateyourmusic

1/19/18

I used to use this website a lot. I did not use it well, though. I would give high ratings to all Lifehouse albums and low ratings to stuff I disliked. Your mileage will vary.

  • Steam.com

1/19/18

Steam as a web service is very good, but the UI can be a bit clunky. Especially if you are going to a link to Steam.com which will often force you to log into your Steam account even if you are already logged in elsewhere.

Despite clear call quality, Curse's voice chat on the web is unreliable. Expect frequent "Unknown Errors" despite otherwise good call quality.
