ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I'VE SPENT ABOUT $150 ON 6 ITEMS AND ONLY 1 ITEM WAS ACCURATELY DESCRIBED. I COULD HAVE SAVED BOTH TIME AND MONEY BY NOT BOTHERING WITH THIS WEBSITE. THERE IS A FEE CHARGED FOR RETURNS SO IT'S NOT WORTH THE TIME OR EFFORT RETURNING. BUT THEIR DESCRIPTIONS ARE NOT ACCURATE. I'VE RECEIVED JEANS THAT WERE THE WRONG SIZE OR LOOK LIKE FLARE PANTS AND TURN OUT TO BE SHRUNKEN LEGGINGS. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.
First time seller--I don't trust sending my items to this company, they "lost" a Dooney and Bourke bag I mailed in and a new pair of Bass boots that had tags on them. They seem to list the not great items at an overpriced amount that would never sell and although you can lower the price, every time you lower it is at the point where you get pennies back. Never again, I would rather donate to my local charities.
My recent box had very valuable and classic pieces that were 'rejected' for reasons unknown. A formal wrap dress, Celine bag, Chloe bag, the matching skirt to a halter top, two beautiful chiffon skirts in perfect condition and much more. All missing from my listing and the shoddy customer service claims they have already been recycled. More likely someone put these items aside and is keeping them for themselves. I feel totally ripped off and will never use this service again. AVOID.
They claim to be well intentioned, but these guys nickle and dime you at every moment. They take a huge cut from what they sell which is fair enough but then also add an extra $14.99 for "processing fee" off the money you get. They also are vague when they say you can receive back unsold items- you have to pay $5.99 for each item you donated plus a lot for shipping. This makes no sense as apparently it's going to be recycled - so no reason for them not to send it back without cost -just you pay for shipping. Wont be using them again.
Sent items to this consignment they choose which items that they will list if you pay for return assurance your items that are not accepted or returned to you. I sent all designer items to this company the items that they did not accept return to my old address, which is in another city and state, my address is updated but they sent my items to the old address and will not take responsibility for compensation or acknowledging that this their error. I understand that the pricing is agreed to once you send your items into them. You agree to accept their policy but them sending my return items to the wrong address is not acceptable because it is their error and not mine and they should correct it and compensate me for my loss of items.
Aweful I sent in clothes all name brand over 20 items they list 1 I was in shock. I sell on other platforms like Mercari and eBay only name brand quality stuff that sells great. But time consuming listing so I gave this a try NEVER again I didn't understand that if you don't ask for your stuff back before they receive it you loose. How frustrating I could have made money on my items.
I recently bought two kate spade handbags I was so excited for them to come. As soon as I unwrapped them I was devastated. They are both counterfeit I immediately reached out to customer service assuming they didn't know. I sent in pictures to show them the poor quality of the bags proving they are not authentic kate spade. They took quite a while to get back to me then told me they were authentic. One of my bags has 5 FEET on the bottom are they serious! I will never buy anything from them, it is too bad the clothes were good. I have also read so many stories about them basically stealing the products from people and paying them little to nothing for them. They shouldn't do that if they tell them they are paying for them they should be paid I would not have given money to them if I had known that.
I was delighted when I received my 4 pair of "gently worn boots" until I opened the box. All 4 pair were unacceptable. Scuffed, dirty, worn heels & soles.
So bad looking, I did not even try them on. I would not take these to Good Will.
Coach boots were the worse $50
Lucky boots, worn out $25
Lucky boots less worn, but dated $22
Kenzie boots. Suede worn heels & not described as suede $25
This way first & last order with thredUP
I purchased a dress, it smelled so strongly of mothballs after soaking 3x in baking soda I had to throw it out. It smelled up my whole house.
I have now purchased two pairs of pants that I can't wear. The first pair of pants were supposed to be courderoy. They were actually a knit ribbed legging type and the second pair I ordered was described as high rise and they are a really low rise instead. They offered me a credit for the first pair and the credit expired within 2 weeks. I will stick with Poshmark from now on.
I earned a whole 13 whopping dollars, off of designer clothes, and then they charged me a 14.99 service fee, so I got nothing. Not ever going to do this again.
I've been shopping with Thread up for several years.I've even sent boxes of clothes to them for resale. On my most recent and VERY LAST purchase from them, they cancelled an item and did a return for less than what I paid for it. No email of explanation or statement of return.why did they cancel it? It was my most wanted item! And what they returned it for was about $15 less than what I paid! I'm through with Thred up. Used to be good.now it's just scamming...
Also.no customer service whatsoever.they have no time for their customers! Soo long to my business..
I bought a gift card, but my order was canceled. So I used a different mobile device and a different method of payment. That was canceled. I've emailed "customer service" several times, but all I've received is a blanket statement saying they got my message. I won't try again.id give zero stars if I could.
This is not a place for sellers so this is a warning to anyone who wants to consign or sell clothing. You will likely end up paying them to sell your clothes for you and will earn $0.00 payout. I would never buy or sell clothing on this site again.
I sent a ton of clothes to them. And I inspected every item and washed everything so it would be nice and clean.
First of all, half my items were not listed. And I didn't request them to send what they didn't want, to send them back. Because I sent clothes from Nordstrom and and Ann Taylor Style and Co., and some Harley-Davidson tops...that are expensive.
The things they did list it said my portion is like $2.99 or $1 something. One item was going to return me $5. But I see these items that have sold and my cash amount is $0.00. How can that be? Are the fees so high that I can't even get my few dollars.
And I thought, I want my clothes back. It costs $5.99 per item to get my clothes back.
What a scam..
Do not sell with Thredup. They rip you off and sell your quality brand name clothing for pennies. They took 2 months to process a bag and didn't accept half of what I sent which was top of the line jeans. Customer service is almost non existant. You will make so much more selling on Poshmark. I don't know how this company is still in business.
I filled up a bag full of quality items; Cabi, Northface, Oneill, etc. Several of the listings were inaccurate (brand, size, item description). They are claiming that only 1 item was sold and it isn't enough to cover my 'fees'. Going forward, I will donate directly to a local thrift store. At least I'll get a tax write-off!
I carefully bagged my very new clothes, mostly Ann Taylor and in excellent condition, including a swedish brand new designer dress which I paid $220 for... When my clothes arrived at the thredup location, 3 months later by the way, they only approved four items out of my complete bag. After seeing the prices that they are selling my items for, and the $14.99 charge for I guess listing them, I will get practically no payout. Now, I wasn't expecting a lot, but I was expecting something. I feel that they are intentionally not telling the entire truth about how this process works. My $220 swedish dress was listed at something like $30, and I will get something like $7. This is pretty uninspiring, to say the least. What really ticks me off frankly, is all of the other very high quality and practically new Anne Taylor closed that they decided we're not good enough to list. Very strange.
They make sure that they don't accept Men's clothing only women and kids clothing. Don't go anywhere near this
Poor company morals. Lists items incorrectly and received several items with stains not visible from a computer screen. Contacted customer service and they do not care. Not buying or selling here ever again. Fraud company.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
