ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Nothing more to say than the email I sent to them...
"My credit disappeared or is all of sudden non-existent. I've sent several clean-out bags over the years to not have ANY credit. Every time you send an email saying my items have sold, I click the link and an error message pops up. I follow the instructions to see my 'credit' or 'sales,' and still NOTHING. I should have something (money wise $) based on the emails lately saying "item sold." Can't see items, kits, or payout received! No history either! I can sign into my account and see my contact info AND NOTHING ELSE!
About fed up and rather just send my clothes to the goodwill or salvation army. At least I know something good will come out of it. So don't expect a good review out of me, even though I know you won't care. I've been a longtime thrift shopper, and this website is... by no means, thrift store shopping prices!
Good bye and I hope you feel good for price gouging "
I ordered 2 skirts and they were set to arrive last Saturday and the other one last Friday. It says that they delivered already and I have NOT gotten anything. I emailed them tons of times and got no response. I will not be spending my money again on thredUP. I work hard for my money and I am not gonna let it go to waste. DO NOT BUY FROM THREDUP!

Half of the clothes were stuff I'd wear in 2010 and when I placed my order it took the money from my card but said my card was declined. Another thing I'd like to add is that they don't even have waist measurements above 34, which at first took a toll on my confidence but then I realized it's not my fault I don't fit the measurements. Finally, they don't even have a currency option which makes it complicated when I was paying. Like it showed I would pay 81.65 but then took 107 disregarding the 30% code I had. If I could give 0 stars I would.
As someone who lives in Canada, there are a lot of brands that keep their websites on only USD which really frustrates me because they're cutting off a whole discography of people from buy from them. Just a personal opinion
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us, Sukhmanveer. We're sorry to hear that you had issues placing an order. The items on our website are listed in US Dollars. I've enjoyed Thredup but my last order (yep, I'm done) they put the wrong size (med) on the item in the post. I ordered based on that size and when it came the tag on the item clearly states it was a small. I returned the item and stated that I should not be responsible for the shipping fee since it was their mistake. Nope - they returned it and charged me to return shipping it to them. This is the level of detail that distinguishes a really solid customer oriented company with just a run of the mill. The devil is in the details and unfortunately they got it wrong.

Update: this review was posted late although I posted a while back and I was able to solve this issue via email through compensation. Customer service was great although I am still not sure if the pair I have are authentic. Anyhow, I will continue being a customer and be careful next time.
I thought I'd post another review on this site to include pictures. I feel pretty dumb to have just realized that an item I purchased months ago (March 2020) from thredup is fake. Someone brought up the possibility of it being fake today and looking at the videos and images I see online, I realize that there are differences from the real deal (white original Addidas superstars). I should have checked right after I got them but I had my trust in thredup and how they handle things. It didn't cross my mind then. Now checking the overexposed image they captured of the addidas superstars from my order history as well, I can see one of the differences on the side view. Clearly, the real ones have a point to the stitch shape whereas the ones I bought do not and instead, it is more dull. I barely wore them -never outside but I have no clue what to do with them now. I'm not the type of person to wear fake items. I was so excited and I loved that the second hand items sold on thredup are affordable and the quality seemed to be fine. Now I wonder if the other items I have purchased are real. I thought thredup was a great company but with this experience, I don't think I will continue purchasing from there. I am truly disappointed and embarrassed that I wasn't more careful. Please be careful when purchasing and double check it's legitimacy. Apparently, I am not the only one who has had this experience.
We truly appreciate your concerns Joey. As a trusted reseller, we have a team of experts who thoroughly review all designer items for authenticity. We guarantee that all of the items on our site are authentic - so we take your comments very seriously! We'd love the opportunity to look into this further. To do so, we need some account-specific information. Please reach out to us at reviews@thredup.com from the email address associated with your thredUP account. We look forward to hearing from you.
BEWARE! They stole from me! I shipped out my items and when I got back items not listed I am missing an expensive watch I had mailed to them. The watch isn't listed and didn't get returned to me. I took pictures of everything I sent them as this was my 1st time with thred up and they stole my expensive watch

Item was not as described, badly wrinkle and terrible smelly. I wished to returned, otherwise I would never buy again.

I did a lot of research before sending in my packet of clothes and accessories to thredUP. Most reviews were positive and I was relatively confident things would work out. All my items sold quickly; however, they rejected a Coach handbag (that was hardly used and in excellent shape). When I questioned why it was rejected, they said it was stained. I looked everything over very carefully before sending - the bag was clean. Had I thought there was any chance they would not have accepted it, I would have gladly paid a return fee, which must be done up front. And - if by chance the bag had a small stain that I missed - many of the items listed for sale on their site are noted in the description as having flaws and stains. It's impossible to find out exactly what was done with bag and where it ended up. I am very disappointed and do not recommend them.
We accept as many items as we possibly can from Clean Out Kits, in fact, we wish we could accept more! Due to our strict quality standards and in an effort to keep our inventory balanced, we can only accept the items that meet our standards. The unaccepted items are responsibly reused or recycled. If you would like to take back your rejected items, you can opt into Return Assurance before you send your kit. For a $10.99 fee, we’ll ship all your unaccepted items back to you. We're sorry if you feel that your expectations weren't managed properly & we appreciate your review, Kathleen.
I really dislike companies that offer promos that don't actually pan out. When I tried to use an 'up to 50% off' promo code, not a single item in my cart received a discount. When I chatted with an agent, she put a different code in my cart and told me to refresh. It gave 20% off the items in my cart. I asked her how to tell which items would actually be 50% off. She said she couldn't tell me. I asked her if it was a secret or if there was only one item in the whole store that would get 50% off. She said there were thousands of items but I would just have to try to find them and test the promo code one by one. No thank you.
Tred up ripped me off! I had a Gucci bag I sent into the tred up the app said and I was emailed my vag was accepted it passed the exam I kept checking my potential profits it read 0.00 I was like mmmm maybe this is because it hasn't been posted on the webpage yet... after a little bit I was like hold on something is up so I emailed them the manger emailed me back saying my bag wasn't excepted so I said well ok where is my bag she says well next time u should say y want it back if it don't pass what the f... u got to be kidding me si now they saying well miss it failed we can't sale it but um we can't give you r bag back because we don't have it any more... matter fact the web page listed my bag as excepted and sold wtf
ThredUP is selling YOUR DONATIONS on eBay!
I sent clothes to sell via ThredUP and it took them 4 months to get them posted for sale. The prices they listed were very low which is as expected but then the split back to me only a few dollars, ok fine. BUT HERE IS THE THING NO ONE TALKS ABOUT - my donations ARE BEING SOLD VIA EBAY BY ThredUP AND FOR MORE $ than what is listed on ThredUP!
I am missing a paid for item in my…
I am missing a paid for item in my order... and NO-ONE will respond to my emails for the so called "customer support" dept. I've even tried the so called, "Chat service" they say is available Monday - Friday... NO real person there either. Since I received my order and it's considered delivered... they are done... I have no choice but to write reviews and contact the BBB...
I am always to find something I love when I shop with ThredUp. Shipping is quick and prices are good. I recommend trying it!
Two separate packages were never received! There is no "chat" available at this time due to "Covid". Get over it! There has plenty of time to make adjustments. The company offers horrible return policy options as well. Nothing but a s*** show! Stay away and don't waste any time or money here!
I sent my bag of items to thredUP to sell. I asked that they return items they were not selling because one of the items was a Prada dress with a belt. They returned some of my items and they returned the Prada dress but they did not return the belt. I emailed them immediately because I could not find a phone number. On their site they said not to email a 2nd time because the first email would be moved down and not viewed as quickly. Weird. So I did not email them again. It has been several months and I have no response to where my Prada belt is. A reputable company would have replied. Teresa Smith
Not being familiar with this process I can't give a educated opinion on my experience, the choices I made were based on personal taste, 1 too small & 1 a little large, but that's to be expected, its different just looking at a photo. Overall it's okay.
I bought long sleeve shirts and 2 pairs of pants from ThreadUp and they look brand new. They arrived in great condition and I didn't have to wait long before I received my packages. I am very satisfied with this company and plan on continuing my business with them for buying clothes online.
I sent in a large amount of clothing. Many items had tags on them. It took 4 months and they only accepted about 5 of my items. What a waste of time. Don't waste your time!
The clothing that I purchased was in wonderful condition and when you receive your merchandise, ThredUp nicely wraps your items in their green polka dot tissue with their Logo Sticker. Nice presentation which makes you feel like you bought it at a Department Store in the good old days when they packaged your purchases at the store and made you feel like a Queen!
Nothing but issues - cancelled orders, paltry payouts, slow shipping, but worst of all, FRAUDULENT CHARGES AND NO WAY TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE! Never again. Still dealing with cancelled credit card as a result and long time to come. STAY AWAY!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
