ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

I love this site for shopping for myself! I have found amazing clothes at great prices. I did not, however, have much luck when I tried to sell my own clothes (I think I got $5 for an entire bag of name brand clothes).
This site was great at first, but when they restructured their payouts, I went from feeling like I was getting a fair deal to feeling like I was mostly donating my items so someone else could make money off them. A great site for purchasing good quality used clothing, but I don't send my gently used items to them anymore, I get much better pricing at resale shops. In the beginning, they boasted high payouts, stating their lack of brick and mortar meant less overhead and better for those looking to sell. That was true for a while, but definitely has changed.
I too made the mistake of mailing in a large bag of clothes all of which were in excellant condition and several pieces still had the tags on them. They only accepted 6 pieces and I received a mere $23.41. I had ordered a few items from them, prior to sending in the bag, and were pleased with them but since this has occurred I don't see myself using there site again.
I have used thredup's cleanout service twice and ordered clothes from them on a number of occasions. They are very good with detailed communication. They let you know when they receive your bag, how long it will take to process, and then when it's processed you get an email showing pictures of all the items with exactly how much you earned for each. As far as ordering clothes, the clothes I've ordered has always been in great condition and I've been very happy with it. I recently purchased five skirts and five tops for my six year old daughter for a total of $50 with free shipping. Just one of the skirts would have cost me over $20 if I got it new at Gymboree. Overall a very good site. I use it mostly to buy kids clothes and have been pleased with the quality and service.
I easily earned $30 in credits just by posting my referral link to Facebook. I love that I can count on the excellent quality of the clothing I buy from ThredUp, and it's so much fun to browse! I updated my summer wardrobe for free!
I had to wait over 2 months before they processed my bag. They only accepted 2 out of about 22 lightly used designer items (all on their brands list) with no explanation. In the waiting period I had placed an order from them and one of the dresses received had a tear in it - so much for their high quality standards - we will see if they give me flack about taking the return. Also I did the return assurance and when I got my bag back - there were OTHER PEOPLE's clothes in there! Unfortunately I did not keep a full list of what I sent them for all I know they sold some of my clothes and I did not get credit - or someone else did. They obviously have a very inconsistent and disorganized process.
The site is great for buying clothes from if you are looking for decent slightly used items. The problem with threadup is sending them clothes. I have sent 4 bags of clothes to them. The first time I sent in two bags, one with boys clothes and a handful of girls clothes in it and another with all girls clothes. All the items were in great shape and were high end. There were multiple pairs of jeans in the boys bag barely used, two with tags still on them. I received a nice payout for the girls bag, just over $45. The boys bag however was just $9 and the website only showed that the girls clothes were accepted. I exchanged numerous emails with threadup over this because something was definitely fishy here. In the end, they claimed that none of the boys clothes were eligible for sale. I think a bag inspector had a son in need of some new clothes. I waited almost a year before trying them again and only sent a bag of girls clothes, and received another payout close to $45 which I spent on their site. At the end of last year I decided to send another bag of girls clothes, it took them two months to finally give me $4.60. The bag was full of nice items, yet they only gave me credit for 4 items. One has already sold for 12.50. I'm not sure if the company as a whole is crooked or if it is just some of the bag inspectors, but I feel like I can't trust sending them anything again. It will be better for me to just take the tax write off and donate to Salvation Army.
I have bought 3 times from ThredUp. Sometimes the clothes fit great and sometimes they are over washed and shrunken, so are 2 sizes smaller than the tag. Also, not very accurate when stating inseam of pants. I'm tall, so need a 34" inseam. I bought pants that were listed as 35", but when I received them they were WAY too short (measured 32"). I went to ship them back and it cost $15! Great site for anyone that is average size. They need to work better on descriptions and be better organized with tall clothing... You have to look at every pair to see the inseam and even then can't guarantee it's right!
Do not sell clothes on this site - they take 7-8 weeks to process your bag, and will pay you pennies (and during the time you are waiting, they may change what brands they accept, and too bad for you). Since their payouts are so pitifully low, you may end up owing THEM for a bag of clothes if you opt to get them back. Shameful! There are numerous stories of people finding their rejected clothing items for sale on the site as well, which is highly suspicious. I would recommend you try LikeTwice.com, or else consign locally. Even donating and getting the tax deduction would be better financially.
For buying, the site used to be a good deal, but they've raised their prices dramatically. Why would I pay more to buy a used Old Navy or GAP item that I can't try on and have to pay return shipping on if it doesn't fit, when I can pay the same (or less) for the new item in the store? No thanks.
**** WARNING**** DO NOT SEND THINGS TO THRED UP! Complete rip off. Takes FOREVER. They pretty much steal brand new with tags items & pay out NOTHING. I wish I could give no stars.
I went on the site and before sending in my bag of clothes and used their "clean out calculator" to find out how much I would get if I sent in my bag of clothes. In addition to waiting SIX WEEKS for them to process my bag, my bag of once worn designer clothes I had calculated out to be worth $130 was supposedly worth $20. I am disgusted- should have just taken them to plates closet, what a waste.
For buying clothes I would give it a 3 star, for selling I would give it 1 star. I had sent in a bag with nice, clean barely worn name brand clothes and was credited about. 60. I was very surprised since the site often has sweatpants with elastic gathers at the ankles (do they even make those anymore?) and High School Musical and Hannah Montana clothes etc. so they don't seem that picky about clothes being stylish - the ones I sent in were much more current. The items I have purchased from them though have been good quality and I have been happy with them.
I love this site! I have shopped here a few times and just love how great the quality of their clothes are and how fast they ship. Yes I agree with the other reviews in that you need to know your size in the brand you buy. But if it doesnt fit then you can always send it back and they will give you a refund. I haven't sold anything to the site yet. I plan on doing that once my new order comes in. I think they price things fair! You might not get what you paid for your items but then again who would pay exactly what you paid for it when its been used? I think some people are just going to love this site and some will hate. It all depends on that person. Make the decision for yourself. Check it out and give it a try! My last order I have over $1200 in retail prices! I think its a winner!
First experience selling fine. Second OK. Last, they completely ripped me off. I send 5 kate spade bags and a coach bag. They paid me $11 for 2 brand new pairs of boots and nothing for the handbags. Do not send your stuff!
I have made 2 orders so far so I can make a good review without being emotional.
This site is great IF (big IF) you know your size in every brand you are buying! I ordered a bunch of stuff some fit, most didn't... basically because these are clothes from a lot of different stores and they all have a unique sizing charts, so BEWARE... that the filters they (thredup) have for "equivalent" sizes are not real! Do your research on the brand size before you buy! Because this is such a pain in the a** to buy clothes on this website, I rather pay the extra money a get it on the official brand website, at least I know it WILL fit me because they tell you the exact cm or inches of each size.
Can't give less than one star! Sent a bag in full of Escada, ST John knit, new BCBG shoes, Theory, Milly, Nanette Lepore all in pristine condition! I got paid $0 they claimed none were acceptable for cash payout! Before you send high end items to this site BEWARE! Do not send in without RETURN ASSURANCE or you are going to get the short end of the stick.
I love this site! I get great clothes that are of an excellent quality and condition at better than new pricing! I always recieve my shipments in a quick timeframe and Love Love Love what we get!
I love shopping at ThredUp. I find the best deals for myself, my daughter and my son. The clothes I have purchased from ThredUp always arrive on time and are all in great, "like-new" condition. I have also returned two "polka dot" bags of clothes my family has outgrown and have been very pleased with the payouts I have received. In addition, I think it is great that they offer "returm assurance" for a small fee on any bag that I send to them. I recommend ThredUp to all my family friends who love a great deal.
I personally have purchased through this site 3 times. Overall the experience has been great. There was one time that I purchased a pair of "boys" jeans for my son that was NWT and when it arrived the tags were all pink, labeled with "girls" on it. I contacted thredup about the mistake and sent photos, and they refunded my money on the pair the next day. That is the only bad experience for us, but they made the issue right with the refund very fast.
I love buying stuff from ThredUp. I've gotten so many cute pieces for great prices. Like many of the other reviewers on here, I'm not thrilled with selling to them. I've sold to them one time-a huge bag of stuff. They only accepted a handful of items and I didn't get a lot of money for it. I followed their guidelines on what they buy so I'm confused on why they didn't buy more. They do have an option to send back any clothing that they don't want, you just pay for the shipping cost to get the items mailed back to you. I wish I would've done that because I had a lot of nice things in that bag that I could've sold at a yard sale.
Still, buying from them is great. If I ever sell to them again, I will definitely choose the option to have them mail back what they don't want.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
