ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Not getting your clothes back complaints, they do return clothing. You just need to READ the instructions before you mail in your clothing. Simply check the box "if you don't sell any of this, please return it."
Not getting your clothing accepted, I'm okay with them denying clothing because that means the clothing I purchase from them is in better condition. I have never once had an issue with clothing I've gotten from them, other than sizes not fitting right but that's not thredUP's fault.
And I can't believe that anyone would get anything less then almost-new from thredUP, but if it DID happen - again it comes down to READING the website before you buy. In the notes, they will tell you exactly what is "wrong" with the piece before you buy.
Needless to say at this point, I'm a huge fan of thredUP. What few issues I've had were resolved.
The only thing that I would want to suggest is opening a Men's section.
This is a great option for people who are looking for something fresh and new to wear but don't want to spend a fortune. Also, if you're trading items in, the process is very easy. It takes a while to receive your credit but it's better than having unwanted clothing taking up space in your closet!
I have sold twice on Thredup, both when purging items before a home move. The payouts are extremely low, but the mark-up once items are listed seem high for consignment type items. I won't use them again, but would look towards Poshmark or eBay so I can make more of a profit.
My experience withy ThredUp has been very positive. I am waiting to have a bag processed so have not yet experienced from the selling standpoint. I've been happy with most everything I ordered. For the items I chose not to keep, the return process is very easy. I do see a difference in what information is on a mobile device versus the regular website and I'm not sure why that is. Even the item numbers are different. I'd like to see more consistency between devices to make searching easier. Also being able to search for pants by length would be very helpful too.
I have purchased many items for myself and my children. I did request a bag to send clothes but after reading the reviews - I decided against it. I have had to deal with customer service when an item I received was a different size than advertised and it was resolved promptly. I do find it unfortunate that they email coupons && all of them require that you are a first time buyer!
I like buying my clothing pre loved whenever possible, and Thredup makes that easier! Their prices are a bit higher than the average brick and mortar consignment shop, but their selection is way better!
I have bought several items and am totally happy with my purchases. The only downside for me is the time spent on the computer shopping. I love that thredUP is picky about what they accept. I have not sent clothes to sell. I take mine to Goodwill locally but like buying things that are in excellent condition. I've gotten some very good designer jeans for a fraction of what they would have cost otherwise.
If you are looking for cute clothes on a budget... shop here! I have been extremely satisfied with all items purchased. And anything that didn't fit I returned with absolutely no issues. Highly recommend!
I love thredup! It is my "go to" store for specific or functional fabulous finds! I highly recommend it to any person who likes the hunt and discovery of gently used treasures!
Always quick shipments, prompt correspondence, and happy customer service.
I have both sold and bought clothes on ThredUp, and have had great experiences with both (though I've only sold clothes once). For selling, my cleanout bag was processed in a very timely manner (~2 weeks after I sent it in). I thought the price I received for the clothing (not a ton of designer stuff, mostly just decent quality stuff from Target and Lane Bryant) was low but fair, and clearly consistent with what they describe on their website. They probably took about a third of the large cleanout bag I sent in, but I knew that was going to happen based on their very high standards. I chose not to get any of the clothes back because I had planned on just donating them anyway, so this was a great way to earn a little bit of ThredUp money and really easily clean out my closet. In regards to buying stuff from ThredUp, I have had nothing but good experiences. Everything I've received has been at a great price and really high quality and I've received a ton of compliments on them (no one could ever tell they were second hand). I have received several things that haven't fit (always a risk when not trying things on first) and the return process is incredibly easy (and free). The one thing I wish was that they did have a bit more information about each piece of clothing online, but overall there's a lot of options and I can always find something I'm interested in.
Used to be a huge fan of thred up when I first discovered them a few years ago. Since then their prices have increased dramatically. I definitely don't send clothes in anymore because you get pennies, literally. I feel much better just giving them away. So, I did decide to give them another try regarding buying. Found a few things and now noticed there is a return fee. One of the tops I got had a paint stain on the elbow, advertised in excellent condition and like new. I tried contacting customer service and still have not heard anything, this was a week ago. I give up, I will keep it with the stain and move on to another site. Someone definitely is making a ton of money...
If you are looking to clean out your closets, Thred Up is great. They send you a bag, you send it in, no charge either way. You can get rid of tons of clothing quickly and easily, that is the positive side! However, in my experience, I only send name brand clothing in great condition (because I know they will not accept anything less than perfect), and I have still been disappointed with their selection of clothes to keep and sell, and the resulting payout. The first bag I ever sent seemed fair as far as payout, but the next two were really disappointing. They have reduced their payout, but the prices they sell their clothing for does not seem to have gone down. Thred Up is a great concept, just prepare to be disappointed by your payout. Highly recommend spending the extra money for a return bag so you can sell your unwanted items elsewhere.
ThredUp has reasonable priced clothing for children as well as for women.
My only suggestion would be to put the colors with the clothing description. Also put short with the pant sizes made for shorter people.
I have sent in several bags of clothing. The first bag they only accepted maybe 2 items from so the next time I tried I sent in all name brand excellent condition items many of which still had tags on them and they were not accepted. I'm sure they are making money off of this too since I chose not to pay $13.00 to have my unwanted items returned. With the second try I even checked the website for each item I sent in and they were indicated as accepted. The payout for the items they did accept was not that great considering they didn't pay for most of what I sent in... I could have made more had I had a yard sale. Oh and it takes FOREVER for them to process your bag... literally at least a month. And then when they determine your payout if you don't want to buy stuff from them you have to wait an additional 2 weeks to get the money sent to you via paypal. Then buying stuff. Some of it has been ok quality, probably not as good as the items I've sent to them that have been rejected. But I ordered a pair of what were supposed to be black wedges and these shoes are any color but black. At times the look brown and other times olive green depending on how the light hits them but they have never, not once, looked black.
I have been happy with some of the clothing items I have purchased through thredUP, particularly those that were described as being in "like new" condition. After receiving a couple of items that were in less-than-new condition, I now always use filters to show items in "new" and "excellent" condition only. Since they are so picky about what they buy, it is surprising to receive items that are completely worn out or that have flaws that cannot be fixed and are worse than described.
Selling items through the company does not seem to be worth it. They give very low payouts and reject items for inexplicable reasons. I sent in two pairs of like new children's Ugg boots, and they said they rejected them because there was some scuffing on the sole (not that I saw).
I absolutely LOVE ThredUP. This site allows my toddler daughters and me to remain perfectly fashionable on a budget, and the fact that it's all "recycled" clothing is the icing on the cake for this passionate eco-activist. I ordered my first polka dot box while pregnant with my second (because seriously, who wants to pay crazy-high prices for chic maternity clothes, when you'll only wear them for three or four months?!) and now, a year and a half later, I'm obsessed. I'm building my dream wardrobe bit by bit, and I love that when I order the clean-out bag, my previously loved pieces which no longer fit my lifestyle will be given a second life! If only they would build a men's tab for my husband, my family would be locked in for life!

I have sent in and bought clothes and got what I expected on both ends. The clothes I have received are in better condition than most consignment stores. When selling I sent in things I was getting rid of anyway. Had it not gone to thred up it would have gone to goodwill so I was quite pleased with my 25$. Also it took awhile almost two more maths for them to go through my bag, again it was headed to goodwill otherwise so not really a biggie for me. They also gave me an estimated time of review before I sent it so that is cool too.
ThredUP is a convenient way to get money for items, no doubt about that, but I've learned from experience to separate out my items by what they cost me. For example, if I'm sending in a bag of Old Navy T-shirts and sweaters that I probably got for 40% off, I'm not going to check the box that I want my stuff returned if it's not of quality for resale. However, if I'm sending in a bag with jeans, name brand tops, or anything that I could take to a local consignment store - do yourself a favor and check that box. Recently, i sent in a bag that had about 8 pairs of name brand jeans that were hardly ever worn - NONE of them made it the site for sale. When I sent an email asking about the jeans, I was told that they were bootleg jeans and they have better luck selling skinny jeans, etc. Well, that's not really what their advertising states - it's name brand, in good condition, they will sell them - it states no where that if it's not what they're selling the most of at the moment - it will be trashed. I also believe that this company should be liable to give customers a dollar value of the items that are being donated and to where they are being donated. Of course, I also believe that whoever reviews the bags takes for themselves. (The first time I sent in a bag, I actually sent in a LUCKY Brand shirt that still had the tags on and was already listed on the site in a different color - and I didn't get a penny for that shirt. Lucky Brand is pretty trendy and I know I could've received money for that at consignment.)
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
