Unlike other pet stores, Petco will not replace an expensive fish that dies quickly after purchase. They do not inform you of this or post signs anywhere saying as much. They are money hungry cheaters. Besides this, their dog grooming is also horrible. They did an unbelievably bad jog on our goldendoodle and overcharged us on top of it. Stay away from Petco!
On January 18,2025, I took my pet to the PETCO on FM1960 near Atascocita for a bath, a trim around his jawline, and a facial cleaning. What should have been a routine grooming session turned into an absolute nightmare.
When my daughter went to pick him up, she FaceTimed me, and I was shocked—my pet was completely unrecognizable. The groomer had shaved off all his hair, leaving his ears bare and looking as if they had been skinned. This was NOT what I requested, and to add insult to injury, the staff was rude, dismissive, and outright lied, claiming this was what I had asked for.
I paid $100 for this botched grooming job, and instead of rectifying the situation, they told me to come back the next day to speak with the manager—who might not even refund my money.
This level of incompetence and disregard for both pets and customers is unacceptable. If you care about your pet and your peace of mind, stay FAR away from this place!
On February 13,2025 I scheduled my pet Milo for a full service grooming appointment at 1:45pm for the first time since I recently moved to the area. At the 3 hour mark I had not received a call and decided to pop in just to check if he was ready. Receptionists proceeded to ask the groomer Melody if my pup was ready to which she replied with an attitude "I haven't even gotten to him yet and I haven't even called her!" The groomer that asked her came back and apologized that he wasn't ready and I understood because they looked busy.After I left the store they called me 15 minutes later saying that my dog was ready for pick up.
Upon arrival Melody didn't bring out Milo another groomer did and they did it so fast I was unable to ask any questions. After pick up I noticed that my dog was limping. Throughout the night my dog was whining and crying out of pain and when I took him to his primary vet and was he told us that my dog's leg was sprained; they must've pulled him too hard or he fell. He also told us that he needed to get X-rays done to rule out a fracture.
It took 2 managers and 5 days later for Petco to provide X-rays. I took him to get his x-rays and the vet did not let me tell him what happened; he replied with "we heard what happened". X-ray came back with a suspected fracture but they stated my dog was not limping since he wasn't dragging his leg! I don't understand what kind of limping they expected!
Melody is still employed and they don't want to tell me what happened. DON'T TAKE YOUR PETS THERE! MY PUP IS TRAUMATIZED! I really hope they get to the bottom of this and the groomer gets fired so no other dog under her care gets injured again!

Petco's delivery service is far from satisfactory. My order, which was supposed to arrive within a week, took over a month to reach me. Despite numerous attempts to contact customer service, I received no response. Petco, if you can't deliver on time, you're failing your customers and their pets.
I placed an online order and was charged a $42 surcharge because my address uses USPS. This was done without my knowledge. When I noticed the charge all they offered to do for me is have me return the items and they will process a refund minus the surcharge when they get it back and processed. Horrible customer service. They lost a faithful customer today!
I have just become a pet owner and use Petco. I have had to return quite a few things trying to get the correct size for my puppy. Always had a great experience with no hassles returning. Also took puppy in for his first grooming and he was handled wonderfully and groomed perfectly.
Petco is my preferred pet store for its wide selection of products, knowledgeable staff, and commitment to pet wellness. Whether I'm shopping for food, toys, or grooming supplies, Petco offers everything I need for my furry friends. I appreciate the convenience of their online ordering and in-store pickup options, as well as the frequent sales and discounts available to Petco rewards members.
I always purchase the science diet dog food and if you buy 12 you get 20% off, but if that $#*! of a manager is there and checks you forget it, he argues with you and if an associate is there and as asks for permission to give the discount he will look at the customer and say"I don't know them" and "no discount for them." I will never shop in that store again!
I returned a dead fish and was interrogated by the associate and determined my 10 gallon aquarium with 4 small fish is overcrowded and refused to sell me fish. I have been buying fish and cat supplies there for 18 years. I talked to manager Ashley and stuck by her associate decision not to sell me fish. They were anything but nice to me. Very bad experience!
I am deeply disturbed by my experience with Petco's grooming department. My pet suffered both abuse and neglect during a recent visit, and I feel it is crucial to share this so others are warned.
I had a bad feeling about the situation when I dropped off my animal. When I returned to pick my dog up, I could see the physical and emotional toll it had taken. My pet appeared extremely distressed, panting heavily, trembling, and traumatized, and his eyes sunken in. Angel R. Was his groomer on that horrific Day!
The grooming process seemed rushed and poorly handled. There was neglect regarding the quality of care, and my pet's well-being was not a priority. It became evident that the groomers failed to take necessary precautions or provide proper comfort during the grooming. The result was an anxious and physically hurt animal, who now associates grooming with fear and pain.
This experience has left me heartbroken and angry. Petco's grooming department failed to provide the basic care and attention every pet deserves. I will never trust them with my animal again and strongly urge others to reconsider their decision to use their grooming services. My pet and I are still recovering from the abuse and neglect, and I am left with a sense of betrayal from a company I once trusted.
After having my dog groomed several times at pet co and using my phone number for pet co benefits I was informed today that you only get benefits if you use their app. No one has ever told me this before. Not the regular cashiers or the grooming department. I called their customer service and was told that all the times I have spent over $100 to groom my dog does not count. I like the groomer I use there and because my dog is older and likes her I will keep going to her. I will not spend another penny at pet co for anything else. I will buy everything else somewhere else. This is not a good company and does not care about their customers. Some other pet store will benefit now.
I went in to buy baby crickets and they told me. They can't sell them to me because it's for for their reptiles I've done had 2 of my baby lizards die now I've got one baby left and can't get any baby crickets from petco now my last baby lizard might die cause they refuse to sale me small crickets to feed him... petco doesn't care if they die so I'm out of money cause they won't replace my lizards if they die. All I ask is customers that bread lizards are able to by small crickets or they replace the lizards that die do to them refusing to sell small crickets to customers
Petco is one of my favorite stores that offer things for pets. I usually buy supplies such as beds and bowls there. I also got a few toys and they were fine. Last time i bough harness and collar - it was on sale, buy 2, get 30% off. My dog looks super cute in them so good purchase. Shipping was super fast!
I have personally made 5 separate comments regarding the leopard gecko enclosures at the location in Carlsbad off of Vista Way. They are kept in fine grain sand which can cause severe ailments including metabolic bone disorder which is irreversible. It would take 20 minutes of time and materials on site not 5 feet from the habitat to fix this issue. This petco location is actively killing the animals they're trying to profit from and refuse to make this simple change for the good of the animal.
We purchased an aquarium as a Christmas present for my son, upon opening on Christmas we found it was damaged. The purchase date was in longer that 30 days ago, therefore they would not exchange it. There only solution was to purchase another, great sales pitch. Don't support these stores
I ordered a prescription medicine for my dog and after 9 days and numerous calls to their customer service department, I never received an explanation as to why the medicine hasn't arrived yet.
In addition, their website is plage with multiples missing links.
They are on the same road as Toys & Us!
I have been taking my Sheltie every couple of weeks to the groomer for a year. I recently scheduled in advance to take him in. Six hours before his appointment at 2:03 am I received a text stating that the appointment had been canceled. I rescheduled and 3 hours later it was canceled. I called and the answer I received for the cancellations was (I don't know why). Surprised at the answer I replied well I will call someone else and her reply was OK. I suggest before you get this treatment find a company who wants your business.
The stores won't sell canned pet food by the case which means a higher cost per can. When I've ordered online to get the case price, they often sent loose cans instead of factory sealed cases. On two of my last three auto-ship orders, this resulted in my receiving the wrong items. Whoever is packing these boxes isn't paying attention to which cans they're grabbing. While they do ship quickly, I can't depend on them to send me what I ordered so I'll be doing all my buying with Chewy for now.

I have shopped at PetCo for many years at many locations and always found the employees very helpful and pleasant. My most recent interaction was beyond good customer service.
I sent PetCo an email letting them know my pet had died and could they please remove me from their mailing list as it made me sad every time they sent me a new advertisement.
First they sent me this nice note back:
We are so sorry to hear about your loss, and our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. We completed your unsubscribe request, and you will stop receiving all non-transactional emails within 48 – 72 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience the email caused. Thank you again for being part of the Petco family and giving us the opportunity to address your request.
Then they sent me flowers! Unbelievably kind and thoughtful from such a large company.
They often have a great selection of items and I like that you can give your dog treats to taste. I do think it can sometimes be a little expensive, but the people who work there are usually very sweet.

Answer: It took them 8 days to ship my order & it arrived damaged. I called them for a replacement & that to was damaged. Called again & they asked if I wanted a refund & I told them no, I want what I ordered.
