NEVER AGAIN
June 11, 2023

Very disappointed in my J.Jill purchases and their policies. Their prices are over the top and not inline with the quality.

I spent quite a bit on clothes for late spring/ summer, and sweaters for fall. The sizes are inconsistent. I wear an 8P/PM. XS tops were too large, and sweaters were extremely BOXY and awkward fitting! Their QUALITY is embarassing. The sweaters were "thick felt-like fabric", very itchy materials. I had to return my purchases. I tried to purchase different items hoping for a better outcome, no such luck.

The pictures portray attractive clothing, but this is not what I found. I would have tried to exchange if the merchandise was better quality and sized correctly, but they are not the standard.

The free shipping policy states you have to spend a$150 for free shipping, tax not included. Easy to do when their clothing is pricey. However, If you return any item, they deduct $9.95 from your return credits to reimburse themselves for shipping!

That just tells you they have no confidence that the customers will be happy with their products.

Quality not good
August 5, 2019

I am slender and have a few favorites although the main customer is advanced middle age spread with oversized tent like styles. However the prices and styles are tempting. I especially like the Wearever travel group. However, I should not have to iron travel clothes. The fabrics are cheap with unfinished scratchy seams, and some of the dresses look like housedresses.

I am a frequent online shopper and like most, don't care to pay for shipping. While some retailers do charge if under a certain amt. The best ones simply offer free shipping, period.
Well, then there's J. Jill... which has an interesting and punitive concept...
I've discovered that the more you spend at J. Jill the more you are charged for shipping.
I called them to express my opinion but was told nothing could be done except bring my concerns to the marketing department.
So, I promptly emptied my cart of over $250 worth of merchandise and asked to be removed from their mailing list.
I'll stick w/Bloomingdales, RL, LLBean, and Nordstroms from now on. Each one of these merchants really understands customer service.
JJill just isn't worth it.

As others here have said, the last few years, the styles and cuts have gotten progressively dumpier, frumpier, shapeless, and old lady. Nearly all their dresses are straight shapeless tunics, or maternity-look high waisted styles. They used to have beautiful blouses, and now everything is a frumpy old-lady tunic style. Their jeans selection is not what it used to be, either. I used to buy several hundred dollars in merchandise each fall and spring at JJill; that is no longer the case. And now I get notice of their 40% off sale - just went back to the site, and there really is almost nothing there I want or don't already have. Very sad.

Totally agree with post by Rhonda F. Bring back the high quality fabrics and wonderful styles of the 90s to early 2000s. Embroidered tops & skirts, linen and cotton. Always looked foward to the catalogs to view the next collection. My daughter and I both shopped there almost exclusively. Hope the new CEO takes heed of the negative reviews. Additionally, prices are excessive for mediocre clothing.

I fully agree with Joy Fs review horrible cutomer service
I ordered a PSm maxi dress - something as big as a tent arrived waited for the neighborhood store to open for return
Got tired of waiting to get rid of this tent dress - used their smart label. Now wonder where the dress is. Go on my account - nothing there indicating they got it. I would not dare to order from them again. Last time I called their recording says March 27th the same as the sticker on the door.

Shipping Error
August 19, 2019

I ordered 4 items from JJill. I opened package only to find out that not one item I ordered was in the package. I wear a 3x and they shipped me a pair of shorts in size 4P and 3 shirts in size S. I can't do anything with these.

Then they offered to ship me 3 out of the 4 items at no charge. One item out of stock and that's the item I really wanted.

Packing slip had all the right items. Poor packing and now a very unhappy customer.

I wanted some compensation for an error that was not my fault!

What happened?

Why did I used to get beautiful velvet and embroidered linen from J. Jill and now it's all dowdy stretch fabrics for people who work in conservative offices?

Made in China

I was very disappointed when I went to a J Jill store yesterday... every label said 'Made in China'. I've been a long time shopper but wont' be coming back again until I see merchandise from the U.S.

I am a long time loyal customer who is very unhappy about this year's design changes and sharp departure from the tried and true silhouettes, fabrics and styles that won my continued patronage. This year's collections have been disappointing and it's steadily gone downhill. The past 3-4 months collections have come out and there is absolutely nothing I want to buy. The classic long cardigans, clean looking maxi dresses (without stupid elastic waists in the middle) and tops in nice cottons, blends and fabrics have been replaced by cheap thin poly fabrics and fussy styles with bell sleeves, cut out sleeves, ruffles, ties and all sorts of fashion forward embellishments that look stupid on a mature woman. Also sizing is markedly different. Tees are running very small. Especially in the arms. If this keeps up I will find another store to stock my wardrobe. PLEASE return at least some of your merchandise to the classic styles you sold for years and years. If you want to attract younger new customers don't abandon your existing loyal base. I am extremely disappointed in J Jill this year.

UPDATE 9/10/19: Just saw the new September collection and it's a HUGE improvement! Better colors, many of the more traditional cuts are back and the new ones are flattering and not edgy or odd. I walked out with the largest haul in months. Great new pants, a classic faux suede jacket, classic sweaters in vibrant colors and a really nice blouse. I am very very happy with the September collection. Keep this up and i will be staying with J Jill.

J.Jill is a great alternative to LOFT; the quality is much better than most modern women's clothing brands. I am younger, so not everything style-wise works for me, but some of their basics are perfect for work wear in terms of fit and quality; unlike some mature woman brands, they don't go hog-wild with bizarre, gaudy prints and styling and so I guarantee you, regardless of age, there is something for you at J.Jill. I've had no problems shopping and ordering online, and their return policy period is very generous - it's very easy to take a piece to a local store for painless returns. Where I have to fault J. Jill is the in-store experience. The employees (and I have two locations near me) always have a bit of a "what-are-you-doing-here?" attitude towards me. While I understand I don't fit the traditional demographic, I think any store, regardless of brand, should show its customers a universal respect. And no, this is not an imagined chagrin, since I shop anywhere else without this experience (hence why it caught my attention). J. Jill is the only place I notice a bit of a side-eye or coldness. And no, I am not a "tough customer" asking for it- I'm a meek/mild "yes ma'am/no sir" type doesn't have the guts to confront the behavior in-person. Maybe send out a company memo to treat the kids well and think of me as a future investment at least? And to be fair, perhaps it's just the staff at my locations. I save myself the grief by mostly shopping online. Other than that, great brand and clothes!

I am thoughly discussed with Jjills customer service. The Rep Lisa was horrible and uncaring and her Supervisor Amy was condescending and equally umconcerned. Just be prepared that you will be left on your own here so don't look, for quality service or assistance once you make a purchase. I just hope that these two don't represent JJill's overall policy or standards for customer service.

Today I just received my final order from J. Jill prior a vacation. I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I'm so tired of having to order 2 to 3 different sizes - usual size/smaller size/larger size - as nothing at all fits as expected. I really don't understand the problem. You've been around for years. This isn't a group of students making clothes. Why on earth can't I wear the size I wear in every other store? I've ordered over 45 items and have returned all but a few in the last two months. The quality - sheer blouses (suggesting a cami) in mid-summer. Who wants to wear layers in 90 degree heat? Tops are too short, too long, too sheer, require ridiculous hand washing or ironing procedures. Shoulders are in the middle of your arm and armholes reach your waist. What the heck? The waist of pants are not fully sewn in? Expensive t-shirts and tops pill and unexplained tiny holes show up. When you find something you like that fits and doesn't fall apart after 5 washings, it's never made again and you are out of luck. I can't understand why I kept trying with J. Jill, but you've now beaten me down. Who is your customer? Sadly, not me anymore.

J Jill has been going down hill overall.

Their clothing quality is has been consistently on a decline.
Their buyers keep missing the mark.
Their stores don't stock what they used to stock: size and variety-wise
Shipping: $17 to ship 4 items that arrive in 7 - 10 days? What?
Their "New Talent" in stores don't know me, they've taken away many of the sales staff that knew me, and that were close to my age, replacing with younger people that don't even want to wear J Jill clothing. (why put Millenials in a store key holder position when they don't know anything about what my needs, wants, desires are!)

Their new website is horrible; slow to respond, no multiple promo codes allowed on checkout (and YES, they previously allowed for it--whether intentional or not... it's a take away now). I would love to speak with whomever authorized this horrible experience to launch.

Bye bye J. Jill-it was a nice experience before making all of these changes. Maybe you should have asked some of your customers about their needs.

Sad and boring...

So sad that JJill was bought by Talbots! It's no longer unique but a boring extension of Talbots blah clothing. Why would they buy it to only make it carbon copy of their existing store...?

Horrible customer service, I purchased products online and paid a huge shipping charge to get the items before I went on vacation. Did not receive the items as promised, I returned my entire purchase and received a statement with a late charge, I called customer service and they said the return had not shown up before the billing cycle it would drop off. I received another bill with another late charge! The credit did show up but the late charge did not drop off, so I received a second late charge with interest! WTH, I called and said I am not paying this, i even spoke with a supervisor, David told me that he would waive one late charge but only if I did not cancel my account, I said I would cancel my account if they didn't fix this. I believe that is illegal to extort customers with fees. I told David that I would pay one late charge ad then call back and cancel... he could have cared less, cancelled account, will save me, not them. Beware of J. Jill. I have so many friends that have had issues with them, no wonder their rating is so low.

Straight Downhill
January 10, 2016

J. Jill's steady decline continues. Every piece of overpriced clothing I've purchased from them after 2000 has fallen apart rapidly. Anything knit is full of holes within 5 washes. Their prices are obscene, their shipping and handling fees are among the highest you'll ever find, and their return policy is pretty much nonexistent: You can return something that you don't like, but only if it's "unworn, unwashed, and still has the tags attached." Because that's how you find out if you like a piece of clothing--don't wear it, don't wash it, and never take the tags off. They will not take anything back that disintegrates, which is damn near everything. I remember back in the 1990s they had some lovely, feminine pieces in velvet, gorgeous embroidered blouses, and sweet homegoods. Take a look at their clothing line now. Sixty cardigans that are based on the exact same shapeless-sack pattern; horrible prints; t-shirts that (sorry to beat a dead horse here) just FALL APART.

How do they stay in business?

I miss the old JJill!
September 1, 2020

I have shopped JJill since before they had brick and mortar stores. Back in the 90's and early 2000's I would be so excited for each new season of clothing, looking forward to rich colors and interesting prints and garments that fit my not-exactly-slim shape in a flattering way. I've stuck by JJill despite the fact that both quality and aesthetics have gone down but prices have stayed the same or increased. The colors for the last few seasons have been muddy and the garments seem shapeless and unflattering. I read the other reviews and agree - I have a number of garments that i still wear from the old days - a beautiful teal silk blouse, a deep fig corduroy button-up tunic, and several beautiful, lightweight pure merino wool sweaters. I bought two colors of the same sweater last winter that fit well, but after they were washed (according to label directions) they shrunk just enough - in the bust area only - to make them unwearable. I didn't try to return them. There is rayon in most of the sweaters now and it shrinks when washed. I'm afraid to buy a JJill sweater these days. I was looking forward to the September collection but after paging through the catalog that arrived today, I didn't find a single thing I wanted to buy, so I went online to see if there were other offerings that would appeal. Normally I find at least one or two, but NOTHING. Not a single thing. Just because we're mature doesn't mean we want shapeless, bland clothing! How about some tailoring? Please JJill? Get your mojo back before it's too late!
