The overall reputation of Hotwire is marked by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding its customer service and booking reliability. While some users appreciate the user-friendly interface and occasional good deals, many report serious issues such as double charges, incorrect reservations, and inadequate support when problems arise. Customers frequently express frustration over a lack of accountability and responsiveness from the service team, leading to negative experiences during their travels. This pattern suggests a need for the company to enhance its customer service practices and improve the accuracy of its booking system to restore trust and satisfaction among users.

I booked a car on Hotwire for the first and last time. I arrived at the airport and the company they gave me was over an Hour long. I called and they could do nothing. Never use this service. No refund not even an apology just a person telling me to wait at least another hour.
I wanted to book a trip to "Puerto Rico" and I didn't type in the exact city in where I wanted to go. After typing in just "Puerto Rico" I was expecting them to give me locations that were in Puerto Rico instead I got results from an Island off the coast of Africa called "Puerto Rico" if I didn't check the location I would have book the wrong place. They are some scammers and the worst part is I heard they have led people through dangerous hotel locations!
I had an error on my reservation. The car I originally booked was "cancellable". Then I got a change on my reservation in an email the dates were incorrect and now it was Non-Cancellable. After multiple messages all not willing to work to correct the reservation, I asked to speak to a manager. I had to call two people before getting to talk to a "supervisor". She read some lines off a sheet of paper and went back to sitting in her cubicle after hanging up the phone on me. Such Customer Service! NOT! Don't be fooled by these high rates. I called direct to a company and got a rate $300 cheaper but am forced to stay with my reservation that was changed on me.
I only speak and understand English, I can hardly understand their customer service representatives on the phone their English is not good, I've experienced so many bad situations with Hotwire there's not enough room to write it all. If you don't get what you booked don't be surprised, also good luck getting your money back. I would give no stars, but gave a 1 star to submit my review.
Bottom line is if you need to make a modification, cancel, or any change, for ANY reason, you WILL absolutely lose all your money and have to pay again. This is from over 4 hours of texting with agents and a phone call where I finally reached a supervisor. They said I could directly make changes with SIXT, but SIXT says they need an email request sent to their *******@sixt.com from Hotwire requesting the change. Hotwire will not send one... period. As Hotwire is owned by Expedia, you would probably be well off to avoid them as well. Bottom line for me is a 5 day rental loss and I get to rebook... but it won't be through Hotwire or SIXT. Orbits allows you to make rental reservations without paying for the reservation up front... so that's where I'm heading.
I bought an express deal for OKC Yesterday for a 3.5 star hotel. The depicted hotel choice were hilton, embassy suites and wyndham garden. When the hotel popped up it was SLEEP inn. How is sleep inn a 3.5 star hotel? They refused to cancel and said their ratings differ from other sites and there is a disclosure stating that other hotels may be allocated depending on availability. FAKE ADVERTISING AND POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE. I am going to file a dispute with credit card and write a bad review every week for a year! They are going to regret having ripped me off
If I could I would give Hotwire negative 5 stars. This has quite literally been the worst traveling experience of my life.
Our airline changed our flight with no notification from a 7 am flight to red eye (12:30 am flight) and Hotwire required that change notification in order to cancel, even though we never got one and we had two different itineraries with the same flight number departing on the same day (aka clearly an airline change).
We jumped through several hoops trying to satisfy their requirement to prove it was an airline change and still no flexibility or cancellation.
To try and not lose out on the money we had already put down ($400+), we showed up to the rental car company to pick up at the originally scheduled time (6 hours after we landed) and the line was out the door, service members were slow to turn folks around, we didn't get our car until an hour after our reservation, which was NOT the version of car we reserved, and obviously we will never be booking a rental car like this again.
I would recommend avoiding Hotwire at ALL costs. Hope this helps someone out there save them saves from a similar fate.
The worst travel service company ever. I have been on hold for over a hour and a half to change my reservation. I highly recommend using another travel service
Have waited over 1 1/2 hours on hold. Made airline reservations 2 days ago, and received confirmation from hotwire. But after 2 days, credit card account has not yet been charged. Called to see if flight reservation is still valid. Still waiting on hold.
This is definitely the worst customer experience I've ever had as far as booking a car reservation. I booked a car reservation and found out I had Covid 19 before picking up the Reservation so I call Hotwire explain my situation and they say "hey no worries submit you documents and we'll get back to you regarding your refund" fast forward after I get out of quarantine they are completely giving me the run around telling to message customer service after I wait on the phone for 45 mins to talk to a rep and still nothing. Don't ever book anything from Hotwire it's "price match" or cheap bookings are rip offs
So me and my gf booked a deal with hotwire with a price match guarantee. We'll we found a better offer for $50 less at the same hotel. They refused to match the price, even with their guarantee. We are highly disappointed and will not be using then again.
Garbage! Don't waste your money or your energy! They're scam artists! I chose one of the deals for the system to select a hotel within the filters I set and it gave me a hotel outside of the parameters. I know that the system will choose from several options for you, but I would expect for them to at least honor the requirements that you set. I called to get a refund and even spoke to the manager, and they didn't care! I explained that they gave me a hotel outside of the filter requirements and they just kept saying "sorry all sales are final." Then they deferred to the hotel's non-refundable cancellation policy and said to check with them for a refund. Really!? (as if I booked with the actual hotel). Then they offered to give me "hot dollar" credits and only after charging me a cancellation fee. So there's still no accountability! It's like ordering a sweater online then getting a shirt instead. Even though you consent to receiving any sweater, don't give me a shirt and say "sorry, no refunds!" Totally fraudulent!
I rarely write poor reviews, however if you book though Hotwire, and prepay for a car, you will not be able to modify your reservation.
Hotwire's website under FAQ, states that you may contact the rental car agency, and request modification. However, not only did Dollar refuse to modify my reservation because it was prepaid, a lady from Dollar said if I were to drop the vehicle off at a different location, Dollar would report it missing/stolen. That's when I terminated the conversation. I will never use or recommend Hotwire or Dollar car rental again.
I booked a car rental and had to cancel due to the Pandemic. I am now trying to reschedule my trip but they won't because they have no record of my cancelation ALTHOUGH I DO VIA EMAIL
I was offered a 10% discount on car rental if I downloaded the Hotwire App. Two problems, I put in wrong return date, but also when I checked our there was no 10% off!. I called customer service and spent nearly 3 hours on hold before I hung up. Then got a return call from customer service who couldn't find my reservation and put me on hold for over 3 hours before I hung up.
Their customer service consists of them hoping you will hang up after waiting several hours.
Reservations made through hotwire for alamo. Plane in at 9pm in palm springs, no one at counter and phone support says systems are down so no car for my family. Had to uber and find someplace local to stay. Had to uber back next day and wait in long lines only to have them try to give me a lower class car than what we actually paid for. I did not accept. Horrible customer service. No apology for problems we faced and tried to get us out as quick as possible. Now Hotwire and alamo both refused to compensate for uber and lost time. Will never use Alamo or hotwire again.
We had to cancel our trip due to Covid -19. We called Hot wire and understood there is no refund but explain we would get some kind of credit under our account but nothing. Under this kind of circumstance, where everyone is affected by this pandemic, you would think Hot Wire would have made some modification to their policy but nothing. Total scam! They only care about taking money and keeping it. Never going back to them, I'll book my car rental with another company, we lost 1000$.
When I show as a Hotwire customer the hotel always puts me in the worst room they can find unless I pay more for the room. I was put in a room with a pile of molded towels and sheets hiding in the closet and a broken heater. We were relocated to another hotel but I was told I would have to pay the difference in price but the new room was worst, smelled like musty armpits and an ashtray. It's not a good plan when you book your hotel with Hotwire. They use a classic casino style bait and hook psych out so you feel like you might win something great but you never win you will always lose and they know this. It's gambling and you are the one paying for the rig. We were staying at the Makai Beach club near Daytona Beach. I should have known it would be a disaster.
Hotwire will scam you out of your money; no refund for certain deals, but the notice for those policies is not readily apparent, almost certainly by design. Skip Hotwire and use a more reputable company and service.
Answer: In my case it was only when I convinced a Hotwire customer service representative that I needed to speak to her supervisor that I got any "service."
Answer: Phone the hotel to confirm your booking at the rate you paid. Make sure you get the name of the person you talk to and maybe have him send you an E Mail confirmation.
Answer: They can't. For me it's $1400 (more characters to post answer)
Answer: Pay for it then you'll know. Don't book through these people. Read the reviews. I'm still upset with myself for paying lots more than I could have gotten it directly from the Hotel itself. There is no customer service.
Answer: No. I didn't see Richards Hotel on the list. Having said that I've never been to Richard's Hotel it could be great. They just don't show it as one of them. Be kind to yourself read the reviews and stay away
Answer: Never share your credit card info... they double bill you
