Hotwire has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I made a hotel reservation and used my debit card instead of my credit card. When I discovered my error a few hours later, I called to see if they would void the transaction and charge the other card. No. No. No. No. And then a 5th no via email. I do not recommend Hotwire. Not at all. Their "customer service reps" follow a script when speaking to you or emailing you and they will not deviate from that script. It's very frustrating to deal with them.

The room I booked through Hotwire was $73.00 with taxes and fees the total was $86.23. They have a "low price guarantee", but when I found 3 identical bookings for less they had a loop hole for all of them. Then I found one that I was certain met all their requirements for $66.60 with taxes and fees the total was $71.90. Their so called "guarantee" is smoke and mirrors. Their big discount of $73.00 was $1.00 less than what the hotel charges if you walk in off the street. I do not know what they pay the hotel but even if they paid $74.00 and the taxes, the room still cost me almost $7.00 more than it would if I had checked in myself. They will not save you money, find an honest web site where they will not rip you off and always check the room price by contacting the hotel/motel itself before booking with anyone.

I can't even give hotwire 1 star for their customer service. But I will give them a 5 plus star for taking your money when the reservation is made. I booked 4 rooms in Oregon and when I arrived hotel didn't have any rooms and when I called hotwire customer service the representative was rude offered no help in finding another hotel and told me it was my problem! I will never use hotwire for any type of business and I suggest to stay away from hotwire!

AWFUL

BEWARE! Arrived at Ontario Airport, took shuttle to car rentals, Economy is not located at the actual airport. Tried calling them and couldn't get anyone, after reaching out to hotwire and three different people they finally reached someone on the phone after over an hour of waiting. Finally had to rent from a company there at the airport as I was already an hour and a half behind, was trying to get to the hospital to see my father. I can't tell you how awful the customer service of both agencies, hotwire and economy were. Having to have my credit card fight these charges as they are sticking with their no cancellation policy, even though I could not get the service I paid for. I paid for a car rental at the Ontario airport, I waited over an hour and a half, It wasted my entire day of phone calls between all agencies trying to get my refund which never happened. They are just awful, awful, awful! Never experienced this before. Not worth the few dollars you may save.

Bottom line is if you need to make a modification, cancel, or any change, for ANY reason, you WILL absolutely lose all your money and have to pay again. This is from over 4 hours of texting with agents and a phone call where I finally reached a supervisor. They said I could directly make changes with SIXT, but SIXT says they need an email request sent to their *******@sixt.com from Hotwire requesting the change. Hotwire will not send one... period. As Hotwire is owned by Expedia, you would probably be well off to avoid them as well. Bottom line for me is a 5 day rental loss and I get to rebook... but it won't be through Hotwire or SIXT. Orbits allows you to make rental reservations without paying for the reservation up front... so that's where I'm heading.

On three occasions now I book something on hotwire and when I go to pick up the car there is a 2 hour wait. Or check into a room and after waiting till 5 pm to check in the room in a 4 star hotel smells like smoke and sheets are stained. No refunds

I'm not going to be long; but I booked a Hertz car through Hotwire and when I showed up on my booking date, there was no car available. I ended up booking through Dollar car rental and it cost me about $300 more. I requested Hotwire to pay the difference and they refused. Only offering me a $25 voucher. Do not do business with Hotwire or Expedia.

My son used a Discover card I gave him to hold a car rental. When he picked up the car, he was charged on his personal credit card. However, the charge on my Discover was not refunded. I called them to try to resolve the issue but could not talk to a person and was left on hold for 1/2 hour. Ridiculous waste of my time. I am disputing the charge on Discover since they are more reasonable to deal with for sure.

Terrible. My mom booked with them for my wedding. Changed her flights, to 8 minute layover,, then no option for her to change her flight booking online. She had to call. Almost 2 hours on hold and they hung up on her. Still no response from any of them other than my department doesn't handle this. So it will be at least 4 hours wasted on hold before we can get things straightened and that's if we get someone who can help and don't get hung up on again.

Terrible!

We had to cancel our trip due to Covid -19. We called Hot wire and understood there is no refund but explain we would get some kind of credit under our account but nothing. Under this kind of circumstance, where everyone is affected by this pandemic, you would think Hot Wire would have made some modification to their policy but nothing. Total scam! They only care about taking money and keeping it. Never going back to them, I'll book my car rental with another company, we lost 1000$.

Hotel was in the wrong destination... Representatives and supervisors are rude and helpless. I called them right away right after I saw where my hotel was located. It was 45 mins away from Seaworld. Wanted to change hotels but they were no help. Do yourself a favor and go with another website!

I rented a car from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach. I prepaid for this Car. When I received by confirmation it was for a car rental out of Miami with a return to Miami. This was not what was on the booking before confirmation. I immediately called and was told that they would do nothing for. Seems insane they would lose a valuable customer over a $30 car rental have used them for years but will never use them again. Very short sighted on their part.

It used to be you can see who the merchant is for the last minute deals. Now, not always. They only mention the neighbourhood.

I used to be able to find great last minute hotel and car rental deals that were much more attractive than the bookings I made months in advance. Now, I find if I use a non-last minute site such as Travelocity and Expedia, I get the same deals.

Bait & Switch

First experience, they allowed me to book at a location that was closed. They blamed me telling I'm not at the correct locating. After over an hour and an additional 100 dollars charged, they allowed me to switch to a new location. Second experience, I booked a convertible because weather was predicted to be warm but now it's very cold. Asked them to cancel that so I could Rebook a normal car. Was denied even though the policy states "cancel anytime" this is a bait and switch company that screws up your reservations and blames you but keeps yours money. Buyer beware!

Long time customer that is disgusted

I have been a long time member/customer of Hotwire. I have used them to books hundreds of hotel stays all over the country. They used to be the service I recommended to family and friends because if there was every an issue at a hotel, hotwire took care of it.

Now, they last 2 times I have used them not only do they are the process difficult if there is an issue at a hotel, but Hotwire customer service itself is difficult to work with.

In 9 years, hundreds of hotels I have only had an issue 3 times at a hotel. In the last 3 months there has been an issue at each hotel. And it was customer service at Hotwire that was the most difficult and terrible to deal with.

I have used them 4 times, never had an issue. So far so good. The prices seem reasonable. Last weekend i got a room in St Louis for a concert, 95$ and it was a wonderful room at the Sheraton. I would guess its normally a 200$ a night room. Huge flat screen, big bathroom, and the bed was about as comfortable as i have ever slept on. Props to Sheraton, but props to hotwire for getting it so cheap for me.

-if you need to penny pinch its ok
-easy to use site
Cons:
-hotel location can be far away from location you want to be. Really examine the location area they give. Usually cheapest hotels are far from where you want to be close to.
-special services given with normal room may not be offered with Hotline ex) free breakfast, shuttle service, etc. So check what you want in a hotel

Horrible

I booked a hotel reservation, but due to circumstances I tried to cancel it per their policy and they refused to refund me... denying cancelling within hours is refundable.

So my friends and I were going on a vacation to TN April 28th-May 5th. Booked a van through Hotwire with a deal if I prepaid. Long story short, Hotwire will not refund my $411. Buyer Beware. It is not a good deal. Once Hotwire has your money it is gone. Do do book any Flights, hotels and car rentals with Hotwire. They are a scam. I have read hundreds of the same incident that has happened to me.

Bad service

We booked our flights with them. And our seats were not booked properly by them as told. Also told entire flight all one price. Now paying extra because they didn't do their job. And may not even have a seat when we get to airport. We will not book with them ever again
