I had a reservation to pick up a car at El Paso airport. I was told they had no cars and to wait an hour. After over an hour went by I was handed keys to a dirty car. I accepted it and drove off. About 25 minutes later I was out on I10 and the dirty car had a massive blow out. Now it is just not dirty it is faulty. I was able to gain control of the dirty and faulty car and get off the interstate. After waiting on hold for over 30 minutes to report the dirty faulty car had a blow out,
I was informed by the Hertz associate on the phone that I would need to agree to a 98.00 repair amount in order to get someone out to fix the dirty, faulty cars blown out tire.
After waiting by myself for over three hours on the side of the interstate a man came and changed the tire to the dirty, faulty car and told me that the spare tire of the dirty faulty car was not safe to drive.
The next day I returned the dirty faulty car to the airport. A guy with Hertz filled out a claim for the dirty faulty car and sent me to the hertz counter. I told the person of my problem and she said se was sorry for the nonsense and gave me another car. This car was more expensive then the dirty faulty car but she re assured me that there would be no up charge. Well I returned the new car a couple of days later and when I looked at my credit card statement I noticed I was over charged. I call and wait over 30 minutes to get a guy on the phone and he makes a credit adjustment. At this point I think everything is behind me but NOOOO!
About three weeks later I receive a bill for 179.04 for a 79.04 damage amount(for a faulty tire that should be Hertz responsibility) and 100.00 for an "administrative fee". I am beyond frustrated with the demise of Hertz. The underperformed on every level.
1. An hour late
2. A dirty car.
3. A faulty car.
4. A car with a defective tire.
5. They wasted hours of my time making me late for appointments.
6.They over charged me
7. I had to pay $79.04 for damage to something I did not damage. They did not take the time to inspect the tires before they handed me the keys
8. They are charging $100.00 for and administrative fee.
I have been treated very unfairly and I understand now why this company is on its way down. I also have now found out that dollar and Thrifty are now part of this same company. I am beyond unimpressed by these companies and will never rent from them. They should have never put me on the road with this faulty vehicle and are lucky I was able to gain control of their faulty vehicle and not hurt myself or others.
I should have never been charged a penny and I am sure they will send a new bill with some other pile of S---T! A terrible way to treat your customers. Shame on you
WARNING: DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ AT ICT AIRPORT – COMPLETE SCAM.
This place is a disgrace. A month ago, I rented a car and they fraudulently overcharged me $345 on top of my rental. Then they had the nerve to bill me for two full days when I clearly returned the car after just one day. I've reached out repeatedly — no response, no refund, no accountability. It's like they took my money and vanished. The customer service is nonexistent, and the way this location operates is shady at best, criminal at worst. Save yourself the frustration, the financial loss, and the blatant disrespect. Run — don't walk — away from this Hertz location. I made the mistake so you don't have to.
Hertz's lack of transparency and poor customer service made for a frustrating experience. Despite prepaying in full, I was hit with an unexpected $1,219 deposit hold—more than double what I was told to expect. Hertz never disclosed this amount upfront, and when I questioned it, I was met with dismissive and condescending responses.
To make matters worse, Hertz held my funds for an entire month, despite their own policy stating holds should be released in 7 days. Rather than taking responsibility, they shifted blame to my bank, leaving me to chase my own money.
If you're considering renting from Hertz, be aware of hidden charges, excessive deposit holds, and poor customer support. I strongly recommend choosing a rental company that values honesty and customer service.
Upon collecting the car at tromso airport an amount of nok 6672 was being charged of which nok 3000 is for refundable deposit. But when I received the final invoice they charged me the full amount without deducting nok 3000!

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ. They have the worst customer service. It is impossible to talk to a live human. I reserved a car through their app and entered a credit card. When I arrived to pick up the car I was told they don't accept that type of credit card and they could not help me and there were no exceptions. I was stranded in their parking lot for an hour in 90 degree heat while finding other transportation. Two days later they charged my card 51.00 for canceling the reservation. The same card they claimed they don't accept. I was there and there on time for the reservation. I did not cancel it...they denied me a car. I called customer service and was told it would be a 10 minute wait. The first call i held for 30 minutes and hung up the second call i held for an hour and still never spoke to anyone! The only way to reach customer service is via email and they take 3 to 5 business days to reply. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. HORRIBLE COMPANY. HERTZ ARE NOTHING BUT CROOKS! DO NOT USE HERTZ!
Hertz will not return your lost items. I left a bag in a car in the Las Vegas Hertz rental car location. I made a claim within two hours of the returned vehicle. Over the course of two weeks, I made several updates to the claim in great detail regarding the bag's name, brand, and contents. I made at least six calls, and no one from Hertz could provide me with a number to the site location. After three weeks, I was finally able to find a local number, and when you press to speak to a local representative, the system hangs up on you.
I even had two local family members stop by the location to try and retrieve my belongings and was told both times, "normal work hours," the only person that had access to the lost and found room was not in. I had an air tag in the bag and proceeded to take over ten screenshots of the bag just sitting there at the location. I checked their lost and found page every other day to see if my reference number was posted, and nothing. No one from Hertz contacted me or even responded to my inquiry. Now I see my bag is at a trash facility. So beware: Hertz has one of the poorest customer services I have ever dealt with. The only way you can get someone on the phone is if you are looking to give them money towards a new rental. I rent a lot and am currently a part of their Presidential Circle, but that will change because if this is the way they do business, then I can rent my cars somewhere else.
I returned a vehicle that had a tiny rock ding that was smaller than a pencil erasure, nno way I would have noticed it when I picked it up. Needless to say they blamed me then rather than repairing it for $100 they elected to replace the windshield for $670. Customer service was a joke and refused to explain why they chose the much more expensive option
I recently had the pleasure of renting a car from Hertz, and I must say, the service I received from Liz was truly exceptional. From the moment I walked in, Liz greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel instantly welcome. Her professionalism and attention to detail were evident throughout the entire process.
One thing that truly stood out to me was Liz's remarkable memory. Despite only renting cars for the last month, Liz remembered me from my previous visit. This personal touch made me feel valued as a customer and added a level of comfort to the rental experience.
Liz's helpfulness and understanding were evident from start to finish. She took the time to listen to my needs and made sure I had everything I needed for a smooth rental experience. Her knowledge of the rental process was impressive, and she answered all of my questions with patience and clarity.
Overall, my experience with Hertz, thanks to Liz, was outstanding. Her professionalism, helpfulness, and attention to detail made the entire process seamless and enjoyable. I highly recommend Hertz to anyone in need of a rental car, especially if you have the opportunity to work with Liz. She truly goes above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction
I rented a midsize SUV from Hertz via Hotwire.com at the ATL airport on 4-11-2024 for $88.87. While at the counter, I was asked the standard questions about insurance, gas, etc. I was never asked if I wanted to upgrade my selected vehicle. When I received the emailed bill, I noticed that I had been charged for an upgraded SUV that I never asked for and was never informed I was getting. When checking out of the rental center, I also noticed that the gas gauge was showing less than a full tank. When I asked the lady about this, she told me not to worry about it and to just bring it back with the same amount. They have to know that this would be next to impossible because you would have to add gas, stop, check the gauge, and repeat multiple times to get it where it was. I also figured if I brought it back less than a full tank, they would attempt to charge me the $10.67 per gallon they charge to add gas to an under filled return.
Once I received the email receipt and saw that I had been charged an additional $105.21 for an upgrade I did not request or consent to. I filed a complaint with Hertz Customer Care. Today I received a reply back from them basically saying that it was my fault for not reading the rental agreement fully before signing it. They took no responsibly for upgrading me without my knowledge or consent. This is insane to claim that I should have read the entire rental contract prior to leaving the counter. They have now charged me $193 for a vehicle I had for less than 8 hours.
I do a lot of traveling and have rented a lot of vehicles. I have been asked multiple times if I wanted to upgrade, and I have been upgraded for free many times when they don't have the size vehicle I reserved, but I have NEVER been charged for an upgrade that I neither asked for or consented to. I will go out of my way to never rent from Hertz again.
I am retired 67 year old living off a pretty meager pension and cannot afford these tactics by an employee of Hertz. I have filed complaints with both the Georgia Attorney Generals office and the BBB.
I was driving your rental when a 6 ft tractor retread came at me and I couldn't avoid it without causing a deadly accident. Damage happened to the car. The amount of fees you are charging me for this are insane. You are robbing me for your cost of doing business. It is unethical and a completely ignorant way to do business.
Not only will I never use hertz again but I will be discouraging everyone I know to ban hertz.
The amount of social media posts I will be making will cause even more to go elsewhere. You also charged me for a toll and I was never on a toll road.
You seem to think you can just use my credit card as though you pay the bill.
You are a rip off unethical and ignorant company not to mention your total lack of customer service as I have been trying to contact your claims department and never get a call back or a live person to speak with.
Hertz, Dollar Car Rental and Thrifty Car Rental are all owned by the same corporate SCUMBAGS that SCAM people when renting cars BUYER BEWARE! I will go to the ends of the Earth to make sure EVERYONE knows what a SCAM Thrifty is! Upon arriving for my rental ("Manager's Special"), the attendant took my credit card and ID for a rental that I reserved, checked in via text the day prior, ALL at $169... He ('Jay' at Portland Airport) handed me back my card and a receipt for $536. I ADDED NOTHING... He said the online reservation (THROUGH Thrifty Car Rental 's website, NO THIRD PARTY) was "just an estimate"... So, my car went from $169 to $536? Yup! BUYER BEWARE! When I questioned Jay, he became so upset, he ripped my receipt out of my hand, told me he is refusing to rent to me, and now three days later, they still have a hold on my card. Refused to let me speak to a manager, refused to tell me a manager's name, took my name and number and said they would call me... NOTHING. This company is nothing but CROOKS!
Long story short Hertz would not refund my account after dropping the car off early I talked to numerous hertz customer service people who all assured me I'd have my money back within 7-10 business days - I asked to speak to the supervisor Earnie who said you were refunded yesterday -if it's not in your account take it up with your bank- and hung up on me, so I did my bank got me my money back - two months later Hertz sent me to collections for the exact amount they owed me. 9 month ordeal still going on.
I arrived at Hertz car rental Hwy 49 location gulfport ms on Friday March 8 to pick up car I reserved Location was closed I had no notice Missed sons wedding
I always use Hertz services when travelling they deliver the car to where I need it, which is very convenient.
I worked in the call center in Oklahoma City.
This is a place that requires a disciplined individual to successfully work here, and most people in the age group they usually hire, people in their 20s, don't have that.
The first thing our training group noticed and openly commented on was when reviewing the handbook that the company seemed to be out to get their employees. Admittedly, being only 24 years old I didn't have the level of maturity they were demanding in the job, but it wasn't going to work anyways because of the petty nitpicking.
Because of this, they went on hiring binges at the first of every year. People would quit during the year, and they wouldn't replace them until they started hiring again the next year leaving themselves with a skeletal crew by year-end.
I had people in the building ratting me out and even people at the rental locations tracking my supervisor done when I advised customer of the wrong information.
After four months, I could see I attracted too much negative attention. I went into the office at the start of my shift and said I was quitting right in front of a group of new hires that just happened to be there.
I now make over $200K per year and have never rented a car from Hertz. They usually don't have the best rates anyway.
As a loyal member of Hertz's Gold Plus Rewards President's Circle, I had always expected a seamless and hassle-free experience with them. However, my recent encounter at the Nashville TN Airport branch left me thoroughly disappointed and frustrated.
First and foremost, upon arriving at the rental counter, I was dismayed to find that I was not given the option to choose my vehicle, as I had been in the past. Instead, I was simply handed keys without any consideration for my preferences or needs. This lack of personalized service was a stark departure from my previous experiences with Hertz.
To make matters worse, upon receiving my final bill, I was shocked to discover a charge of $615 that had not been previously agreed upon. Despite being a President's Circle member, I was subjected to this exorbitant "upgrade" fee without any justification. Apparently you are charged for the guaranteed one-car class upgrade that is listed as a perk.
Adding insult to injury, my attempts to contact a live agent to address these issues were met with frustration. Every phone number I called directed me to the Hertz app or website, leaving me unable to speak with a real person to resolve my concerns.
Overall, my experience with Hertz at the Nashville TN Airport was extremely disappointing. As a loyal customer, I expect better treatment and transparency, especially as a member of the President's Circle. Moving forward, I will be exploring other rental car options and cannot recommend Hertz at this location to fellow travelers or my company's travel department.
Despicable company that tried to get my money although i never signed anything with them. They told me later that they own Firefly car hire who also tried to grab my money. They referred the issue to debt collectors! Without even reviewing my case or answering my emails. Didnt even want to talk to me on the phone. It was a result of a VISA credit dispute that resulted in my favour. 6 Months later Hertz popped up and want that money back without answering any of my questions regarding this issue. Thinking serious legal action against them and their side kick eos debt collectors
Preferible no usar Hertz nunca jamás.
Hertz should de ASHAMED!
I planned a trip from Alabama to Texas for a family reunion. Boy am I angry and disappointed.
I found a good deal online and booked way in advance. I ordered a large SUV to travel in style and a bit luxury.
When I arrived to pick up my rental, I was told that they had no SUV I rented. They offered me a way smaller SUV interested.
I was angry and asked the lady, if she could do anything to help. She denied.
She told, I have 2 options: take the smaller SUV or cancel for a refund. Really?
I called Hertz headquarter and explained. The "gentleman" looked up the reservation and told, that I made the reservation with Priceline, and he will not help.
If I had made the reservation with Hertz directly, he could help and could make a change to another location.
Only resolution he offered: cancel this reservation and book a new one. Of course, then the booking would be almost double then I have prepaid for the large SUV.
What a disappointment.
Of course we had no other choice, we had to take the small SUV.
That this small SUV stank like hell to cigarette smoke was just the top of the iceberg.
We are renting quite often, and out next trip will be in April of 2024.
I told my wife, I will never ever rent with Hertz anymore and I will make sure, that all of my friends, etc get notice of this.
I look forward to her from Hertz for an explanation. "we are sorry" just will not do it.
