I am deeply disappointed and concerned with my recent experience with Hertz, a company I once held in high regard, especially as a loyal Hertz Gold Plus member and a member of the Presidential Circle. Here's a summary of the issues I faced:

1. **Billing Discrepancies**: I've been presented with three different explanations for an additional charge of $178.55 on my account. Such inconsistencies not only question Hertz's transparency but also their billing accuracy. Upon thorough review, it's evident that the discrepancy arises from the prepaid insurance, specifically the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). I was initially charged $25 per day for a 4-day rental, totaling $100. However, Hertz's calculations suggest a daily charge of $41.75, which is significantly higher than any previous rates I've been charged.

2. **Communication Breakdown**: To make matters worse, after trying to communicate and resolve these discrepancies, I found that my emails are now being blocked, and I can no longer reach them at *******@hertz.com. This lack of open communication is not only unprofessional but also adds to the frustration and mistrust.

3. **Long Pickup Delays**: On my rental day at SNA, I had to endure a nearly 4-hour wait due to slow service and a long line. Such delays are unacceptable and caused significant inconvenience at the start of my trip.

4. **Blocked Communication**: To add insult to injury, after multiple attempts to resolve the issue, I discovered that Hertz has blocked my email, preventing me from reaching out to their customer relations team. This action feels like a blatant attempt to avoid addressing the problem and further erodes my trust in the company.

5. **Loyalty Unrewarded**: Despite my status as a Hertz Gold Plus member and being part of the Presidential Circle, I feel that my loyalty and trust in the company have been taken for granted, given the challenges I've faced.

In light of these events, I urge potential customers to exercise caution when dealing with Hertz. The combination of billing discrepancies, poor communication, and lack of customer support has been deeply concerning. I hope Hertz takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary changes to restore trust and ensure such issues don't recur for other customers.

Thieves and liars
August 19, 2023

Criminals and liars. Our cresit card information was stolen instantly when we called their call center to pay for our reservation. We had to cancel that credit card because of the theft which canceled our reservation. We were told to rebook the reservation and they would honor the original price once contract was compleated since it was now double the first reservation. Once we completed our return I have called their over seas customer support center that has done nothing but lie. After 4 hours of phone calls to customer service I finally get someone that is willing to help me and open a case and return our funds. 15 days later and no refund. Now when I call they say they have no record of the case number and cant show any history of any agreement we had. You can never get past the first person that answers the phone because there is never a supervisor available. If you speak enough logic to them they will just hang up on you. So our experience with hertz has been full of criminals and liars with employees that have no employee I'd number and make up fake case numbers or just hang up on you. We are filing this with the better business bureau and our credit card company

STAY AWAY FROM HERTZ
August 18, 2023

I rented a car to go from Fort Wayne In to Lexington Ky. The car broke down 2 hours after picking it up. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get a hold of roadside assistance. The came got the car and took it ot their garage in Indianapolis! The Fort Wayne Hertz employees told me that the only way to get another is to have brought the key to the broke down one back, really why would I keep the key? Anyway they proceeded to charge my credit card EVERYDAY for 15 DAYS even though they had possession of their car back. Good thing my credit card company blocked all the charges because the customer serivce at HERTZ IS HORRIBLE! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!

I had to rent a car through my insurance company, idk why I chose Hertz and not Enterprise. I had to drive all the way downtown Cincinnati for 1.2, when I got there one guy said he didn't even know how to process a rental through insurace, so I had to wait another 45-60 minutes for the "manager" to get back. Before even going down I tried calling 6-7 times, no one ever answered the phone. 3, a week after I returned the rental my cc was charged $120 for no reason and I cannot get anyone at any location or customer service for that matter to answer the phone. DON'T RENT FRON HERTZ!

Rental Agreement # *******
For a 13 days rental, I was deceptively charged $3,497.00 for an upgraded 49,000 miles driven car with poor shocks, bad steering and non-functional USB port. Complaint about the cars performance from the highway went unheeded, as the buck was passed here and there.
In addition to $ 3,497.00, my credit card has been charged an additional amount of $695.00 without any explanation on my receipt as to what this additional charge entails. I could not find the explanation anywhere on Hertz's website either.

Terrible
July 14, 2023

My name is Amanda scarpa and I am 37 years old. I recently had reconstructive surgery on my mouth and face due to a connective tissue disorder I was born with. My jaw bone was degenerating so rapidly which caused me to have my teeth removed to prevent endocarditis (infection of the heart leading to death). I tried wearing glue on dentures but because I was loosing my entire jaw bone, they would not stay on. I had no other choice but to seek a rare surgery to save my face and be able to eat/chew solid foods. This surgery cost me 43,000$ and insurance would not cover any of it because they say it's cosmetic when all my doctors have written documentation that it is medically necessary. I brought this all the way up to congress and they said there is nothing they can do. I had no clue on Tuesday that my follow up appointment would take over 6 hours and that I would hit traffic and have to charge the electric vehicle 4x for an hour each time. I read on the website that I would be charged 1/5 of a daily rate unless it exceeds 5 hours. I tried calling the local hertz but it just kept going to a recording. I was charged almost 200.00$ extra and when reaching out to harold the store manager, i was only offered a 20.00$ credit. I explained my entire situation and he was incredibly Incompassionate and just kept saying the charges are valid. Now I do not have enough money to get to my next appointment because of this. I have been out of work for 3 months now and I am still in recovery. I had 6 screws placed into my cheeks and nose bones. All I want is a refund for the extra day as I returned the vehicle that evening as soon as I possibly could. Please help.

I rented a car on 6-7-2023 and was given a 2023 GMC Arcadia. My trip was from PA to TX. I was forced to stop in Kenosha WI at about 6 pm and book a hotel room after the engine light came on and it overheated. I popped the engine hood and discovered that the radiator overfill was completely empty. I reported this immediately to Hertz. They ordered a tow and looked for replacement vehicle. The tow was supposed to come in 30 minutes, never showed up. In the morning I called Hertz again and was told it wouldn't be there until 11 am. I still had over 1500 miles to drive wanted to leave as early as possible. They Ubered me at 9 pm and arrived at 9:30 just before the Milwaukee airport closed, where I was given 2021 Highlander with dents, scratches all over and a chip in the windshield. When I asked for something better, I was told I would have to pay extra. When I returned the vehicle to Hertz in PA and told them of the horrible experience and asked for some kind of discount, the manager at the Green Tree Hertz said no. Another words TOO BAD SO SAD. It is obvious to me that the mighty dollar is more important to Hertz than the customer. I will be sharing my experience every review site

Falsely Charged
June 20, 2023

If I could give zero stars I would! I rented a vehicle from Hertz in Nashville TN and turned it in at the Bishop Airport Hertz in Flint MI. When I dropped the car off nothing was wrong with it no smell nor was it dirty. A few days later I noticed that Hertz had charged me over $600 for a $200 rental. I called them to see why and they told me they charged me $400 for a cleaning fee. I was totally confused as to why would I be charged a cleaning fee when the car wasn't dirty, (I did have my grandchildren with me but they didn't make a mess at all, they were pretty much sleep the whole ride.) The representative told me that in their notes it said the car had a strong odor, now I'm really confused! I said what strong odor? I don't smoke and me and my grandkids don't stink so what odor? I talked to a few different representatives no one could tell me what kind of odor it was. When I dropped the car off it didn't have any type of odor. I really hate I rented a car from these people, its like they can just take your money and say f*** you! I am a hard working mother & grandmother it's just hurtful for a company to take your money for nothing and there's nothing you can do about it. I rent cars all the time and never have I experienced this. Everyone I talk to at Hertz keep saying the charges are valid and there's nothing they can do. I really want to talk to the person that checked the car when I turned it in, I want to know what odor did he/she smell because there was no odor. Hertz need to have multiple people inspect vehicles when people turn them in to be sure because I'm really being charged for a false odor. I will never rent from these people again and I am informing others about my experience and advising them to not rent from them. I am currently looking into legal help with this matter and sadly a law adviser informed me that Hertz has a history of over and falsely charging their customers and have a lawsuit against them for renting cars then reporting them stolen! Hertz or any car rental agency that's has anything to do with Hertz will never get business from me, my family or friends ever again!

On Friday June 9th, went to Hertz counter to pay for rental and they refused to accept my credit card because it said PayPal on the card. This is NOT a pre-paid PayPal card, just a standard mastercard that's also linked to my paypal account. A card which I had USED BEFORE at Hertz and was saved in my GOLD PROFILE from previous uses. They also had a list of other credit cards they'd refuse to accept. So beware that just because you have a valid form of payment that you have used before with Hertz, they may not choose to accept it.
We escalated to 2 levels of management and they basically told us to F off and rent somewhere else. The only positive thing I'll say is that the local manager Mark tried to help us out, but corporate management refused.

Hertz Rental Record -******* 8th May 2023
I arrived at Dublin Airport to take charge of a car booked 3 months earlier with $A720 charge against my debit card. I was told that If I could not produce a credit card, an additional 23 Euros per day Insurance would be added to my rental. I do not use credit cards so the additional charges were added but the interesting thing was that Hertz accepted a further 406 Euro hold on my DEBIT CARD to complete the booking paperwork. On arriving back in Australia some weeks later I checked my paperwork to find that I had been charged 34.05 Euros extra per day plus 13.5% tax which became a 100.33 Euro overcharge. I contacted Hertz Head Office seeking a refund but with no reply to my email so I am informing anyone that may consider renting a vehicle from Hertz in the future to be aware of these shonky business practices.

Bought a rental at hotwire and paid there. When I was at hertz counter, they asked if I wanted insurance and I refused. They charged me for insurance anyway and when I realized, I tried to call them except none of their numbers were answered by a person (neither 800 nor local Ft. Lauderdale). When I tried to send an on-line form, it gave me an email to send to the 'webmaster' since their system wasn't working.

Do yourself a favor and do not rent at Hertz. Do not prepay any car rental service from them. They will charge you twice. Expect rude customer service representatives who will yell at you. Expect Hertz to charge you the full amount you prepaid because you decide to get a toll pass. Expect to receive a car that is way below the standard of what you usually drive. My reservation was pre-paid via PayPal a week before arrival. Once at the airport, the Hertz counter did not have power or internet service. I waited in line for an hour, in part because the customer service representative I was waiting on decided it was justified and necessary to have a 30 minute banter session with the client just before me. It was so bad people behind me in line were suggesting they should "exchange phone numbers" and "get a room." When it was finally my turn and I asked her why $249.80 were going to be charged to my credit card, because the reservation had been pre-paid through PayPal, she yelled at me to "settle down, because if she said so, I would not get a car." She then proceeded to ask if I would get a SunPass for the vehicle, and I said yes. You should know that according to Hertz, getting a SunPass or any other type of toll feature is considered an "additional service" and they will charge your credit card the full amount of the rental on top of what you prepaid. Then, prepare for a less than stellar experience with the car itself. I rented a compact vehicle that had a broken air conditioner, so I spent four days in a sauna thanks to the low quality of the Hertz fleet. When I tried to open an investigation as to why I was being charged twice, I found out that "purchasing additional services" triggers your credit card to be charged. They will not refund your money. So, spare yourself from doing business with Hertz. It is not worth it, and they should be driven out of business.

Horrible customer care. No one answers the phones. I was charged 900.00 for towing not only was the towing for a flat tire but I was also told a new rental car was coming and a towing truck for over 4 hours. I never received the new rental car, and the towing truck didn't even come until the next day. Since then, I have called and talked to multiple agents that said they were getting right on it, and still no help or response almost four months later. Horrible horrible customer service.

Car rented from Hertz Toulouse airport for 4 days, on my return I was 1hour late due to heavy traffic at that day. I was shocked to see I got a charged 1 additional day of rental with an exorbitant rate equivalent to the 4 days rental. So simply I paid double the original bill for 1 hour delay. Very disappointed and feel raped by hertz, certainly it will be my last rental with them.

Our flight was canceled at New Orleans International Airport so was desperate for a one way car rental to DFW airport. All the other rental car agencies had zero options for our request but Hertz was able to take care of our needs and were able to put us in a nice ride. The rental professional at the counter was extremely helpful and one of the kindest people I've ever met, her name was Lisa. So if ever in New Orleans in need of a rental car i would advise you to go see Lisa at Hertz rental, you will not be disappointed i promise.

On 05-15-2023 we rented the car that we booked a few days before that. We waited at their location in Oakland, CA. Airport. We were told to wait for 30 minutes so the car can be cleaned as it had just been returned. About 9 customers were waiting for up to an hour for their car. It is kind of alarm number 1 for us. They took $294 deposits on my card for a one-day rental. At 7.55 PM that was after 55 minutes, the waiter's name was called and we were given the car number and keys for it. We returned the car at about 1.35 PM instead of about 5 PM when the car was due for return. It was very dark at the check-out Kiosk. We checked the car with the phone light and found a couple of small scratches and a gravel nick on the front dash window. We had a very hard time reading the documents in the dark lot and our vision status. Gentleman asked us to mark the damaged spots and sign the paper. That we did the best we could and gentleman told us that these are small nicks and they will not look for them.( it was a 2020 model).
We were told to leave the car in between white lines on my return of the car. There were 3 people working but they told us to leave and go and that we will get the email after they scan the car and we did that. We had filled the gas completely.
We are worried that Hertz did not give us the receipt of the vehicle in good condition as we received from them. We call at certain numbers and texted various parties involved. Until 11 PM we did not get any credit back on our card or any receipt from the Hertz/Thrifty/dollar.
While worried and stressed especially after reading the reviews now, we are waiting for a happy ending to this unexpected and not needed incident.
We will update this review as it develops. Today is 5-17-2023. Please wait for progress with pictures, video, witnesses, and more evidence that we will post if needed.
I am giving 2 stars as neutral, which we will change as the end is unclear at present.
At present, we wished we had taken the Lyft instead and avoided the commotion and stress of the unknown.

N…
Rented a SUV for 1day for business from Hertz at Ottawa Airport on May 11th and was told if I returned it by 12:30pm next day, my charge would be $187. Returned at 1:54pm they charged me $319:46 an extra $132 for an extra 1 hour 24 minutes! This extra charge is outrageous I will never rent from Hertz again!
