Absolutely horrible company, unprofessionals who care only about profit!
Extremely poor customer service, unacceptable behavior.
We rented a car in Malta, someone scratched it while we had it parked and even though we had liability, they charged us the irrational amount of 450 euro! FOR A LITTLE SCRATCH!
We tried to communicate with them multiple times and after 15 emails sent from me and my family, they finally answered that they can do nothing when we requested to reconsider the amount that they charged us.
We attempted to find a solution with the central offices, but of course no one was willing to assist us.
The car is full of scratches, of course it will not be fixed, but still we got charged this excessive amount for a damage that we did not cause!
It's such a shame cause we had trusted your company many times, but I assure that my family, friends and me will never lease a car with you ever again.

I am a frequent traveler and travel around the nation for work. Hertz is my favorite place to rent as in the decades I have traveled never had an issue minus simple things that they worked to resolve. Its easy to pickup a car, especially if you sign up for free to be a Gold member (no prerequisites). In my experience they are not the cheapest option, but there are great perks if you look. There is AAA discounts that is OK for business travel, but great when traveling with a family as it includes a car seat and extra driver at no additional cost. Another pro tip I will offer is don't just look at the compact price. There are times when SUVs or trucks are the cheaper option. Sometimes a luxury car is only a few percent more, but these are more exceptions.
Read reviews because since filing for bankruptcy, Hertz has clearly started scamming customers and telling them tough s***.
We signed an estimate for $375 and got a final bill that was $525! This included Hertz' %15 "luxury tax" that the rep even said was just an additional fee from them.
Rent from Enterprise and save yourself time and money!
Rented a car on feb 3 2021 and was going to return it at 5:30 the same day. The rep said that it was a 24 hour rental and didn't need to be returned until the same time the next day. I decided to take advantage of the extra time and returned it 5 hours before it was due back. When I received my email receipt I was charged a 12.00 late fee. I immediately called and was told that it was a 24 hour rental but because the return time still stated 5:30 on the 3rd they had every right to charge me. Not an expensive mistake but the lack of customer service and the attitude that I should have know better will have me choosing a different car rental in the future.
Car had a 0% oil life alert come on the first day. We were in a rural, remote part of the country with no cell service. Were lucky to get it to a mechanic and paid out of pocket. Called road-side and they told us to keep the receipt and file a claim later. Never created a ticket for my call. We never got refunded because we were supposed to call road-side and have a ticket # issued. We were misled by their representative, never refunded, returned the car early, AND got charged more. We spent hours on hold/countless emails and never any resolution. This company is a SCAM.
I went to the Hertz on US 135 in Greenwood Indiana. The Manager Assoiciate, Melody, lied about her title, stating she was the Manager of the location. It turn out she is just a Manager Assoiciate. Besides lying to us, she was very rude and kept interrupting my husband and I when we were having a private conversation on how we wanted to deal with the situation at hand. I will never rent from this company again. After experiencing this terrible customer service I know why this company went bankrupt while a Enterprise is thriving because of their customers forward approach. Just save yourself time and grief and go with Enterprise.
We booked, months in advance, a small automatic car for 2 weeks from Milan, Italy with an additional driver.
We got to the hire car depot and they said they only had a larger size manual transmission car.
They still charged us for the additional driver even though they couldnt drive a manual car and also still charged the extra for an automatic transmission.
They have also refused to refund the approximately $1000 extra we paid for an automatic and extra driver.
Do not use them they lie and are untrustworthy
The worst customer service… Gave us a car that smelled like someone had smoked weed in it the last 20,000 miles. Back tire had metal and screws in it and was going flat. When we came in to switch it out, they told us to take it to firestone ourselves. What a bunch of milk drinkers.
I booked a car with Hertz in the middle of the rental car shortage. I booked it two months out. I ended up having to cancel it 35 days prior to my trip. I was charged $50 to cancel when I know full well they will turn around and rent that car without my discounts at twice the price. During Covid, most companies are allowing for cancellations without penalty but not Hertz! I tried to call and argue the fee but they were going to charge me 5% of my rental fee to speak to someone on the phone. Never again. Thank God for Turo.
I was in a rush to turn in my rental at the airport and reviewed my details later in the day... I was grossly overcharged in three separate areas - I can't imagine this was an honest error - it's corporate policy to beef up short term profits, and the cost of losing potential business... very short-sighted!
1. Charged for a vehicle "upgrade" (in fact they didn't have the full-size car I reserved, and downgraded me to a mid-size.
2. Charged for 1hr. Extra (vehicle turned in 3 hours early)
3. Charged for "Full tank of gas@ $9.99 per gallon (the vehicle was checked out "empty" as a courtesy for having to downgrade me (after I complained and demanded it), and the vehicle was turned in with 1/2 a tank!
Keep in mind. I'm a GOLD customer, so I get the preferential, and best treatment!
My gold card has been cut in half - I'll never use HERTZ again, and I'd recommend you choose another service as well.
Hertz tried to charge me $343 a day for a Kia Soul in Seattle. I spent close to an hour at the Gold counter, as I was not going to pay this grossly over priced charge. After a 45 minute wait, the manager reduce the charge to $51 per day. However, when I got my bank statement, Hertz did charge me the original price for a total of $1,646. When I called customer service, i was told that the $343 a day was the original reservation and that there was nothing that could or would do to correct this. I called the Seattle airport location and they have no record of the manager fixing this.
I have been a loyal Gold (sometimes President/4 star) customer for 20 years and this how I'm treated! Wow! As of now, I will be renting from National.

I would like to recognize, and commend the outstanding customer service at the DCA location for Hertz. The young lady named Markata was very nice, kind, knowledgeable, and considerate. Me and my daughter enjoyed her sweet, kind, and respectful services. We do appreciate Markata so much with her over and beyond great hospitality! She is a STAR! Thanks Hertz for hiring her.
I booked the car for one day. As per the booking, it should be a saloon but when I reach for collection at the airport they said we have only this one which was not a saloon. So this is the first disappointment.
When I return the car it was 35 min late because I had a problem finding the return location but they charge me a full day, they also charge me full cover for this extra day. So basically I use the car for 1 day and paid for two days. Hertz was using the car for 1 extra day which I have paid for.
So I will prefer not to choose Hertz again because they have ZERO transparency.
FRAUD! We had two reservation with them in the last couple of weeks. First car we had some issues with the pickup place. Took soma arrangements with the costumer service that they did not honour. Second, the car was not washed with foot prints on the window. No reimbursement or nothing. They charged us an extra 600$ and refused to reimbursed.
I rented a car from them for 500 dollars for 2 weeks. When I'm about to get the car they ask for 408 dollars for liability insurance. They did not specifically explain to me that insurance is not included in the rental fee. I cannot cancel my booking since I already paid on advance
It was a pleasure working with Jozsef Johnson. It started with greeting me at the door as I approached the office. Then I noticed how knowledgeable he was about the vehicle I had rented which was a Honda Accord. He made the me feel welcomed which made the transaction process go smoothly. I would recommend that anyone renting from Hertz, please find out the location of Jozsef Johnson. He works to get the job done the first time.
Rented a car from you guys yesterday, waited three hours on a vehicle. When I got to the location that I was dropping the car off we did another hour and a half to be told I have to go to another location. I have been hung up on by your customer service team five times this morning condescending talk, rudeness, arrogant behavior. Told me that I was not allowed to talk to a supervisor. Literally six phone calls later still have received nothing from your team. I will never rent a car from you again and I will recommend everybody go to enterprise. They actually have customer service there.
I rented a car at Seatac (Seattle) airport with Hertz from June 17th to July 4th 2015 and exactly got what I ordered six months ago: an excellent Mazda 2 automatic for a price of 442€. Driven more than 5000 km (3155 miles) without any problem.
At the end I added a US$39.95 giving back an empty tank. The final check of the car lasted 2 minutes and approval given right away.
This is to compare with my previous review with EconomyBookings where their subcontractor Green Motion UK gave me a penalty of £622 for a damage evaluated to £100 by a UK garage.
My advise: always prefer a well known rental car company, the final cost will be surely lower.
Have had a great experience with Hertz in Italy, Bergamo. Liked that the car was new and fun to drive. At the desk got all the help and assistance that was needed, so nothing really to complain about.
