Never take the car from Hertz, they are more than double the price of the market.
If you are planning to book one at the airport, it is better to reach your destination by Uber and book through any other local company.
Before you realize they are looting you, you will be well under a lot of money and will repent.
I am telling you from my personal experience, that after paying over 4300$ in two weeks I realized the same could have been done maximum of USD 600.
Never, Hertz, we get under the impression of Tesla and all through them but it is all a trap. Worst company to take car rental from.
I took Tesla and lost my Key, I called the call center they told me USD250, and to take a replacement, when I went to take a replacement they charged me USD400 dollars for the key, and the person at Newark airport in the Gold member area was damn rude. When I said okay I will return the car, this person charged me a full week despite I returned in one day, I did not realize it earlier, but after a few minutes when left, ran back to him what he did.
No apologies nothing, he just said "O" and then adjusted it. As if he is doing a favor to me.
First, we stand in the queue every time for over an hour, where one person will be there who is least interested in working and above that charges you exorbitant money and loots you.
My advise do whatever but keep away from HERTZ.
SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND AGGRAVATION. 1) Their phone tree (press the options) is amazingly inept. Total run around dead ends as it disconnects you! Again and again I called just to SPEAK WITH SOMEONE who could answer a complex question that was not on their "phone options". 2) On my agreement I was to drop off at a certain location and it was CLOSED on the weekends. So, I went ahead and dropped the car off with the lock box, and they AUTOMATICALLY charged me for the days the car was sitting in THEIR PARKING LOT until it opened on Monday. 3) TOLLS: the rental agent never told me about the transponder on the windshield (I thought it was for tracking their vehicles) or how it works. The New Hampshire DOT WOULD NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT for the toll because it didn't register the license plate within the 7 day window to pay the normal toll, so now I am being over charged and I have to call back and waste more time getting the extra charges taken off my credit card. 2 hours of learning all of this with multiple phone calls to hertz and NH DOT, which could have been circumvented if the Hertz Agent bothered to tell me about the transponder in the first place. Overall the worst rental car admin experience. The phone system being the most aggravating. I will pay the extra and go back to Enterprise. Can't imagine if the Hertz car broke down, what a nightmare it would be.
I had an extremely frightening experience at Hertz Rental Car in Downey this morning. We went to turn in our rental car (we usually rent from Enterprise, but had a better rate at Hertz), we got there at 9am today when the car needed to be turned in on time, there was a socially distanced line outside. I asked most of the people in line if they were waiting to rent a car or if they were turning in keys. All were waiting to rent. I called the front desk from the back of the line, as I had a handicapped person with me, who could not wait so long, and I told them I was in line and needed to get the car turned in in time and couldnt wait as I had this person with me handicapped, and the gentleman at the desk said "we usually recommend you wait so you make sure you are charged correctly, but it is ok, just come in the front and turn in the key". I did so, and a white young dude who looked like someone out of a "Make America Great Again" crowd, with his hick hat jumped in my face and started screaming "Get at the Back of the Line--we are all waiting"... he would not stop. I tried to reason with him that I had called the front, but then an African American guy jumped in my face as well, then the whole MOB came out me. The people behind the desk did nothing as I was feeling attacked and frightened, so I threw the keys at the desk guy and ran out yelling "This is What America is Coming too"!. I havent seen my charges yet, but I would never come around that place again and I dont advise ANYONE to. Horrible place
Criminals and liars. Our cresit card information was stolen instantly when we called their call center to pay for our reservation. We had to cancel that credit card because of the theft which canceled our reservation. We were told to rebook the reservation and they would honor the original price once contract was compleated since it was now double the first reservation. Once we completed our return I have called their over seas customer support center that has done nothing but lie. After 4 hours of phone calls to customer service I finally get someone that is willing to help me and open a case and return our funds. 15 days later and no refund. Now when I call they say they have no record of the case number and cant show any history of any agreement we had. You can never get past the first person that answers the phone because there is never a supervisor available. If you speak enough logic to them they will just hang up on you. So our experience with hertz has been full of criminals and liars with employees that have no employee I'd number and make up fake case numbers or just hang up on you. We are filing this with the better business bureau and our credit card company
HERTZ FILES FALSE STOLEN VEHICLE REPORTS = INNOCENT CUSTOMERS IN JAIL!
This is a common practice with them and THOUSANDS of Innocent Customers have been Arrested and Jailed!
BOYCOTT HERTZ FOREVER!

I made a car rental reservation through Priceline to pick-up a car at Hertz in Buford, GA on July 15,2022 at 12:00 pm. I went to the store at 12:00 pm to pick up the car, and the store was closed. There was a sign on the door which said it was CLOSED ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS. Why would I have been able to make the reservation through HERTZ and PRICELINE in a time slot when the business was officially closed? I had a family and business vacation planned to leave straight from the rental. I was extremely frustrated. We were very very fortunate and thankful that we were able to secure a last-minute rental from a nearby Enterprise store before they closed at 1pm on the same day. The rental at Enterprise was $200 more than the original rental at Hertz. Both Priceline and Hertz refused to assist or help compensate the extra fees I accrued because of THEIR scheduling mistake which jeopardized my trip. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
I've rented car from Hertz at ******* 1st Avenue South Burien, WA ******* from 07.22.2020 to 07.29.2020. I've received station report summary from Hertz stating: UPON RETURN, CAR SMELLED OF SMOKE, CHARGED CUSTOMER AND TOOK PICS. They charged 300.00$. I've called the main Hertz office disputing this charge as no one smoked anything inside the car. The main office directed me to call local branch at Burien, WA. I had a talk with the agent who actually inspected the car after return, and he said that he detected a cigarette smoke. This is a completely unsubstantiated claim, since nobody ever smoke anything inside the car. Moreover, why would someone smoke inside the car knowing that it will be penalty for doing that? There is no any logic. In addition, rental company did not provide any proof for the claim. Therefore, it is the agent word against mine(ours). In addition, even in hypothetical situation if there was any smoke smell cleaning would cost from $50-$125 for a typical car, and up to $75-150 for a van or SUV. Thus this fraudulent charge of 300.00$ even from this point is unreasonable. It appears that Hertz solving their financial problems at the cost of customers.
Had a horrible experience with the Denver Airport rental location. I reserved a "Large Elite SUV" from Hertz back in March 2022 (Cadillac Escalade or comparable as defined on their website). We needed a vehicle that would carry 7 people and 4 suitcases. Upon arrival we were given an Infinity Q-80 (a large SUV as defined by online help agent) not the bigger SUV. Note: the Large SUV is $50 per day cheaper to rent. There was no way 4 suitcases were fitting in the Infinity with the 7 people. When we questioned the vehicle size, we were told this is what you reserved. After an hour of arguing with the front desk, supervisor and manager, the manager finally brought out a Cadillac Escalade. I went to thank him for correcting the error, but he told me the Cadillac Escalade was an upgrade and I shouldn't be getting it. I referred him to my reservation that clearly stated that I reserved a Cadillac Escalade or comparable, but he just walked away. After I left, my Hertz app changed my reservation to a Large SUV, from the original Large Elite SUV. Good thing I took snap shots of my reservation from the app and still have my email confirmation. Not sure if the office was trying to cover their mistake or not, the whole thing just seemed very unethical. If you go to this Hertz location, I would double check everything.
After watching the video about the Puerto Rican men that almost got arrested due to the fact that your employee didnt paid attention in school about US territories, As a Puerto Rican, I am in favor of not using Hertz EVER AGAIN! PUERTO RICO NO USES ESTA COMPANIA CUANDO TE VAYAS DE VIAJE! NO LA USES
The Hertz car we rented to drive 1300 miles from NYState to Florida had extremely low tire tread when we picked it up in the pouring rain. When we noticed this, we took it to our local tire garage and they said it was illegal to drive the car in NYState. We called the Hertz rental office in Oneonta, NY where we had rented the car, and were told they would call us back the next day. They never called. We then spent 53 minutes on the phone with Hertz Roadside Assistance, who finally said that they would call us back. They never called. We then spent 3 hours researching and writing to the CEO; Director of Customer Care; President of Rent A Car Int'l; and General Counsel, telling them that we have both been lawyers for 37 years and that we have an undrivable & dangerous Hertz car. It was extremely difficult to find any helpful phone number or email address for Hertz, and they seem to try hard to make it hard. Their inexcusable negligence could've resulted in severe injury or death. They finally brought us a new car & gave us $100. Unbelievable that they didn't thank us for catching such gross negligence and give us, at the very least, a free rental without us even having to ask. If you want good email addresses for Hertz management, go to elliot.org
Family is from Sydney, so Rented a car from lynbrook hertz in New York State to attend my daughters graduation from Hofstra uni. Had the rental 10 days, paid for in advance. Two weeks after arriving home I get a credit card charge of aud$1300!. My bank says its for tolls! I email hertz saying I was never closer than fifty miles to any toll roads and its an error. Clowns finally concede my rental wasn't associated with these tolls and tell me to contact the toll company. That was hertz response. They gave out my credit card details negligently and recklessly without checking the bona fides of the charges, yet these scumbags response is contact the toll company. Further emails sent by me and a consumer affairs advocate were ignored and went unanswered. A grub of a company and with an odd exception, a bunch of lazy boofheads working for them. The toll transponder had been removed from my rental prior to me picking it up, either someone has walked into the open yard where cars are stored has been removed by an employee who is involved in this criminal behaviour. At no time was this transponder mentioned to me, hertz is aware of this scam but doesn't give a rats $#*! about it. Id hate to see how many others have been caught in this and have received no help from hertz. Never again will I hire from them
And a few times I've left things like glasses, and they would mail them back. My fav rental car for years.
HERTZ is THE MOST CORRUPTED car rental company on the face of this earth. The social media support in the Facebook page of Hertz and their executive customer service never bothered responding because they knew they were at fault. Following which, I was a subject of (SLANDER) by Hertz's Vehicle Control Department in spite of making all extensions and payments on time and having tangible proof of such payments. I wish I could sue Hertz for defamation but I have more important things to focus in life. DO NOT rent car from Hertz because after taking your money, they will tamper the paperwork in their computer system, so you would end up driving an illegal, unauthorized vehicle (which would constitute a "stolen" vehicle) without having any knowledge of that. Following which, they would threaten you to return the vehicle in spite of charging your bank account in advance. Hertz would deliberately do that so it would give them the opportunity to decline any insurance claims and you can also get arrested on the road as well. Hertz says in their Facebook page - "WE'RE HERE TO GET YOU THERE". What they mean by that is - "We're here to get you arrested, get your driver license revoked and get you into $#*! loads of financial trouble". Holding money from my bank account and letting me drive out with an illegal, unauthorized, uninsured vehicle is not only wrong - IT IS A CRIME.
On November 7,2022 I Shani rented a car Nissan from Hertz at 6850 Mt Zion Blvd, Morrow, GA ******* I pacifically told Supervisor Mr. Tim Hardaway I did NOT want Hertz insurance when I got my own insurance Progressive who cover any damages with a rental car my mom was there when I told Mr. Tim Hardaway this. So when I sign the contract I'm thinking everything was done right. But when I turn in the Nissan on December 13,2022 but on December 14,2022 I wake up to check my bank account I see that Hertz ROBBED ME OUT OF 1,923.83. Hertz are THIEF'S, CON-ARTIS, & LIER'S I need all of 1,923.83 back on my debit card.DO NOT SHOP ARE DO NOOOOO BUSINESS WITH HERTZ MAKE SURE YOU DO A BACK GROUND CHECK ON THEM BECAUSE DOING THE PANDEMIC THEY ROBBED LOTS OF PPL AND THE PPL WON 200 MILLION DOLLAR LAW SUIT. WELL PPL FILE A DISPUTE WITH YOUR BANK I DID AND GOT ALL MY MONEY Bk.look at the dates I got my money back in the green
Just incredibly disappointed! When you rent a car, you assume its working well. Check brake light goes oncalled the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hertz rental & told them the brakes feel like theyre slipping (they told us to return the car to the site) & we were nervous about driving the car back to the airport (30 minutes away)the brilliant response... if you want it towed you will have to pay for the tow truck. They Hertz employee was incredibly rude & frankly was completely unsympathetic about the huge inconvenience to wasting part of our day having to swap the car out. We scheduled a quick trip to Florida & wasted half our day dealing with this car issue. Our day trip to Epcot was definitely impacted. The manager at the Hertz was very apologetic about the rude employee & how we were handled at the emergency call phone center & told us he would offer us a $75 credit (for our inconvenience). Long story short he said he couldnt credit us $75 but would give us a $75 credit towards our next Hertz rentalTRUST methat credit will not be used as we will never rent from them again.
Reserved a med sedan for 2 days to be picked up at St Louis International. Due to flight delays and cancellations arrived to pickup vehicle later than pickup time. Attendant rushed me to complete rental agreement then told me to choose any vehicle "on the other side of the building, the key is in it" and began to turn off lights in the office because it was 2 minutes past closing time. Went outside in a poorly lit parking lot and was yelled at by another male driving across the parking lot at a high rate of speed "lady get the car and go thru the gate, we closed." I opened the door of the vehicle I was standing beside, threw my bag across the seat, got in and found my way to the gate. Stopped and asked gate attendant for car seat which I had reserved. Another annoyed employee.
Again due to flight changes by the airlines had to leave earlier than planned. Called local office several times to inquire about returning vehicle, no answer. Called 800# explained about flight and that as of now I didn't have time to return to off-site rental office and that the vehicle would be left at the airport. Was told they would contact the office to have it picked up. 3 days later started receiving automated calls that vehicle was over due. Called 800# was told they would follow up with local rental office. Heard nothing. A week later I got 2 emailed receipts for 1117. 50 and 1217. 50 with the later being deducted from my account. Called 800#, they explained that "even though I had called, I was charged for 8 days rental because that's "probably how long it took them to recover the rental from the airport impound yard." 10 days later I receive letter stating my rental is overdue, yadda, yadda, yadda. Don't know about other locations but Hertz St Louis International is not customer friendly and CSR at the 800# are useless. Overall a disappointing experience for a 2022 rough running Malibu with rust on the trunk.
My sister & I drove our car rental after two days to Sanibel on July 30th. The car was a Toyota Camry 2015, which didn't turn over after we visited Bailey Mathews International Seashell Museum around 2:30 pm. The Toyota was equipped with backup camera & GPS. I called emergency road assistance & was told to stay in car & wait for tow car. The temperature was 94 degrees outside & inside car even hotter. We called Hertz rental too & that person stated service car on the way. We waited 45 minutes outside car in parking lot. The service guy charged the battery & asked us if we left lights on or anything running. "No" we said. He said that if we turned engine off that it might not start again so he said go to only gas station Chevron & get another Hertz rental. We asked for Doug who exchanged Toyota with a Chevrolet Impala, which was dirty inside & smelled like cigarette smoke. So my sistr & I attempted to drive back to Lehigh Acres Golf Resort, where we were staying. We got lost but eventually got there. I did get a reduction in rental charges but I think Hertz should bring another like rental to break down site. I did not get any papers on Chevrolet.
I worked in the call center in Oklahoma City in 1994.
This is a place that requires a disciplined individual to successfully work here, and most people in the age group they usually hire, people in their 20s, don't have that.
The first thing our training group noticed and openly commented on was when reviewing the handbook that the company seemed to be out to get their employees. Admittedly, being only 24 years old I didn't have the level of maturity they were demanding in the job, but it wasn't going to work anyways because of the petty nitpicking.
Because of this, they went on hiring binges at the first of every year. People would quit during the year, and they wouldn't replace them until they started hiring again the next year leaving themselves with a skeletal crew by year-end.
I had people in the building ratting me out and even people at the rental locations tracking my supervisor done when I advised customer of the wrong information.
After four months, I could see I attracted too much negative attention. I went into the office at the start of my shift and said I was quitting right in front of a group of new hires that just happened to be there.
I now make over $200K per year and have never rented a car from Hertz. They usually don't have the best rates anyway.
I rented a car on 6-7-2023 and was given a 2023 GMC Arcadia. My trip was from PA to TX. I was forced to stop in Kenosha WI at about 6 pm and book a hotel room after the engine light came on and it overheated. I popped the engine hood and discovered that the radiator overfill was completely empty. I reported this immediately to Hertz. They ordered a tow and looked for replacement vehicle. The tow was supposed to come in 30 minutes, never showed up. In the morning I called Hertz again and was told it wouldn't be there until 11 am. I still had over 1500 miles to drive wanted to leave as early as possible. They Ubered me at 9 pm and arrived at 9:30 just before the Milwaukee airport closed, where I was given 2021 Highlander with dents, scratches all over and a chip in the windshield. When I asked for something better, I was told I would have to pay extra. When I returned the vehicle to Hertz in PA and told them of the horrible experience and asked for some kind of discount, the manager at the Green Tree Hertz said no. Another words TOO BAD SO SAD. It is obvious to me that the mighty dollar is more important to Hertz than the customer. I will be sharing my experience every review site
When I came in their was someone hollering. I should have known their would be a problem not professional and under staff.
Answer: Unfortunately scam is a kind of normal for hertz.com
Answer: ENTERPRISE! Go there, they have way better rates and won't screw you over.
