Discovering paiement in US dollars for a reservation made in Canada for a canadian hotel is disturbing. I don't care if your business is established in Cayman Islands, but showing a little deference to the country you do business in appears a legitimate policy and appropriate marketing.
If you go to a hotel site and it says "booked call this number", do not call. They prend to be associated with the hotel but they will charge you twice the amount which they call "Tax recovery charges & service fees". If your reservation begins with an R you will never get a refund and they will blatantly say "if you dispute it with your credit card our office will have to issue the credit"
I thought I booked a room at the Gaylord Opryland, in Nashville TN, when I tried to check in there was no reservation. They had booked the room at the Inn at Opryland, A Gaylord Hotel, and then refused to cancel the wrong booking. There email had in Red lettering Free Cancellation, when I asked they stated that the Hotel did not support that statement and offered to reduce my room at the wrong hotel 10% when I told them that I was registered at the right Hotel. I was contacted by the customer service folks and we found that we both had a communication problem and they were going to return my money There customer relation folks were very professional.
Looked like a direct booking from Best Western. Did not reveal they were a third party. Told me I could even use my Bonus points which was false. Took all my information and made me pay upfront. Tried to cancel and they hung up on me 4 times. Customer service transferred me over twice to a nonexistent line that hung up. Scam. Beware.
I booked a room through Getaroom and they advertised the room for $109.00 a night.
I was charged $171.46. I sent a email about this and was informed these were taxes and fees. I asked to see where they state this and never received an answer. I received a email 4 days before check in and was told I would receive a 10% refund. This is unacceptable. I would advise anyone who looks into Getaroom to keep looking. There are multiple legitimate sites out there. Getaroom charged me 57% above the advertised amount they listed. I will never use them again and will let everyone I know to stay away from Getaroom. Next email is to the Better Business Bureau.
This is a follow up to my previous review. After posting my review here, getaroom.com contacted me to refund $72 of the $80 in transaction fees charged for the 2 night hotel reservation, resulting in a very reasonable $8 transaction charge for booking the room through getaroom. Sometimes things go wrong. This was a great service recovery.
I fully acknowledge that in my haste to reserve a room last minute while on the road that I did not catch the $40/night transaction charge (excluding local taxes and fees) getaroom.com initially charged me when making the reservation until I saw the confirmation and it was too late. My negative review was for the customer service reaction to my complaint about the exorbitant charge. Getaroom's site made the reservation easy.
Would recommend you read the fine print carefully. In a hurry for a last minute reservation while traveling was pulled in by search engine marketing thinking I was reserving directly with the hotel. Was charged a $40/night transaction charge by getaroom for reserving a $110/night hotel room excluding taxes. Didn't realize until got confirmation. When contacted customer service was essentially told too bad. Had to prepay and last minute so couldn't cancel. Don't know why anyone would do business with such a company.
Get a Room is a nightmare to work with. First, they listed incorrect rates and wouldn't honor the rate we booked at, and had to refund our reservation. Then, a month later, I received an email confirmation for a booking made at a hotel in Europe that I never booked. Get a Room denies that they made a booking, but the hotel insists that Get a Room booked the room. Now we're dealing with the hotel, our credit card company, Get a Room, and the credit bureaus trying to keep what's looking like they fraudulently booked something under our name from hurting us.
Do yourself a favor and book with someone else. They have awful customer service and tech capabilities at best, and are running a scam operation at worst.
At time of reservation was told I had the option to cancel or modify the reservation up to two days before arrival. My plans changed. I called GetARoom customer care number, their phone tree options ask if you want to book new reservation, modify, or cancel. The rep I spoke with states they do not modify even though their company phone tree states that as an option. All they had to change was my arrival by one day later.
False Advertising and misleading! DO NOT RECOMMEND, TERRIBLE!
I was charged double the rate I would have received had I booked directly through the hotel.
The price they quoted on the phone was over $100 LESS than the charge that hit my credit card. Customer service emails do not address the stated concern nor do they provide a phone number for follow-up. I got the phone number off of my credit card statement and itwas one of the worst customer service interactions I've experienced.
When I originally booked I could not understand anything the person was saying because he had a heavy accent. When you book through them they charge you a cancellation fee. When I called to question they are so rude and when I asked for a supervisor they said no. She put me on hold without telling me and I think she wanted me to hang up. When she got back I told her how rude that was and she continued to do it. When I asked her name she said no and then said Reg which is probably a lie. I will never use them again.
Very happy with the service, were able to beat the competition by over 15%. Will look for them again when traveling.
Yesterday I wrote a review because GetaRoom would not refund my money. Today they called me personally and took care of the situation. I have a whole new respect for the company. I greatly appreciate that they were willing to take care of the situation. Thank you very much.
We were in town for a practice round of the Masters. We booked a non-refundable two night stay. We were rained out after a couple of hours, and opted to leave after the first night. I turned in our keys to let them know we were leaving, in the event someone needed a Masters room... our room was lovely. Kitchenette with fridge, and sink. We dined in Emilios, the lobby restaurant. All of the staff was absolutely delightful. Would definitely stay again... not gonna lie, wish they could have refunded my second night!
Highly advise to NOT use gestation.com.
We were charged $217.00 by them AND then $147.00 by the hotel. When I called the hotel they said that the getaroom credit card had been denied. Still no response to my email to getaroom.com!
HORRIBLE! April 13th on the road, wanted to stop for the night with bad storms rolling through. This one reservation turned into TWO hours of headache and cost me $392. I wanted a HILTON hotel as Im a Hilton Honors Member. I called what I thought was HILTON and was led to believe was HILTON! Booked 2 rooms, 4 people in each room, need 4 beds... easy right? She booked me in a double King saying it was 2 king beds in each room, I questioned her over an over and guess what... we had ONE king bed and a small couch in the room. My first phone call back it was suggested that we sleep 3 people in the bed and one person on a couch... UM NO. Unacceptable. Change my room. NOPE can't do it. Transferred to the rudest woman ever who basically didn't give a rip and said she would refund my money in 10 days. Shelled out another $300 for rooms again at the hotel. Here is the kicker... was on hold for an hour while sitting in hotel lobby, the getaroom rep telling me she is calling my hotel. She keeps coming back telling me theres a high call volume etc. Finally. After 6 hrs in the car in. The empty lobby and the phone rings, first call Ive heard to the hotel in an hour and it's getaroom calling the hotel FINALLY AFTER ALL THE WAITING... MY BUTT! I was on hold while she got her kicks and giggles. She wasn't calling the hotel at all. Im so thankful the reservation clerk at Hampton Inn got to see what they were doing. Disgraceful. They tell me they refunded my money, my bank says no they haven't, they say sorry not their problem. Can't even find me someone who can help?
Company pretends to be hotel, then they LIE about the price. After speaking with representative checked confirmation email immediately only to see that I was changed more than I was told it would cost. Called back only to be told I could not get my money back. Repeatedly Asked to speak with manager only to be told that there was no manager. This company is a SCAM. I will be reporting them to the BBB
Update- This issue was resolved
I had a terrible time cancelling and getting a refund for reservations I had made and payed an extra $50 for to be able to cancel. The number I called was supposed to be GetARoom and the people on the phone said they were GetARoom and said I would get a refund in 24-48 hours. I called 3 times and then turned it over to my credit card company. It took 2 weeks to get a refund. This was critical because the reservations were for several rooms for a group of under-privileged children who were traveling to compete in a sports competition. Today I received a call from GetARoom. They said they had not received calls from me and when they received a call from my credit card company it took at least 5 business days to issue the refund. They have no idea who I had spoken with before. It had sounded like I was reaching a phone room not in the USA.
The correct number for GetARoom.com is *******578. If you ever use this company be sure to use this number.
Made a reservation had no idea I was using a third party. Now I have NO flexibility to change my date so I will end up paying for a night I won't be there. Absolutely terrible. Will AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I reached out to Getaroom about changes to an upcoming reservation and have not heard any information back
I recently needed to change a reservation made through GetARoom, and the Customer Service Representatives were very accommodating and polite.
I will use GetARoom again in the future.
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.
Answer: Call 800-468-3578 but good luck. They are scammers
Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
