Forgot to book myself a room for a workcation but Getaroom came to my rescue! I was able to find an affordable place (Best Western Mission Bay) - walking distance to the water, convenient location, walkable to little convenience stores... easy to get to the airport. Love the convenience of Getaroom - definitely my go-to.
We had to cancel the reservation (two full days in advance) due to family issues and when I tried to call directly, the line kept hanging up. There was no warning that I was going to lose the entire $166 (I called the hotel and I don't think they're getting anything).
I called customer service and asked if they could at least reinstate the room and they said no, they were not able to do that either. I asked for a supervisor repeatedly and was told there was no supervisor available.
The kicker was that the booking clearly stated there was free cancellation and that was an absolute lie.
Do not under any circumstances use getaroom.com for any bookings.
Between being treated the same by bookings.com and now getaroom.com I will never use an online reservation system again and will call all hotels directly to make a reservation. In the end at least I won't be losing any money.
Site overall very good. Need to improve English and efficiency of person on the phone. Will try site again when situation arises.
I wanted to book a room at Americas Best Value Inn. I googled the hotel and got several results. Not realizing that the site was a third party, I called them and made a reservation. They advertised a price of $61 but the total charge on my credit card was $91. Apparently they charge a $30 service fee. My wife came down with strep throat, and we couldn't stay at Americas Best Value Inn on the date of the reservation. When I called GetaRoom, they told me that this was a non-cancellable reservation and they would not give me my money back or modify the date of the reservation. I found the actual number of the hotel and called them to see if they could do anything. They said I should have booked the room directly with them, the room charge would have been $68 instead of $91. This third party scam operation provides no added value while charging extra fees for doing basically something I could have done myself. Do yourself a favor and call the hotel directly instead of using their services. Most hotels will match the price offered by Expedia, Hotel.Com, GetARoom, etc. I called the fraud department of my bank to lodge a formal complaint.

Horrible, horrible, horrible experience! I needed to book 5 rooms for my family and I to attend my grandmothers funeral. I got scammed. When I called customer service, first agent, Michelle, hung up on me. I called back and the second agent, Mark, was rude and refused to connect me with a supervisor. DON'T book with this site!

Misleading Scam, be alert when booking your hotel. Charged $32 in junk tax recovery charges and service fees. Booked other rooms on the Holiday Inn site for less than $100, I was charged $132.45 Called to cancel or even match the price that I should have paid, they offered $9. Please don't use this service. Take your time to make sure you're booking on the proper site. I am glad that I am now aware and I will make sure to stay away from Getaroom.com
UPDATE: After this review, someone did reach out to me and they offered to make it up through a partial refund. That interaction was very helpful and professional. If only they had a way to reach that customer service team first (instead of the rude, unhelpful team, from the number they list online...)
TOTAL SCAM of a company! I booked online, thinking I was booking with the hotel. I paid $1800 for my stay and then get to the hotel and they show a credit of only $1200! GETAROOM took my $600 and never transferred it to the hotel and refuses to give me an explanation as to why i was charged an extra amount and it wasn't passed on to the hotel. Subsequently, by $1200 wasn't enough for the entire stay so i had to pay the hotel an additional amount. NEVER USE THIS SERVICE. When i called their customer service (which is also a scam) they said they could not help me, gave me a canned response and said there were no supervisors. Stay far away from this site.

This site is horrible I made a reservation at 1100 am due to my husband losing his credit card. When my husband whet at 3pm to check in at the hotel he was not allowed to check in because he had no credit card and couldn't pay his incidentals in cash and called at 320pm to cancel this reservation! Could you believe that they kept my $160.00 and told my my reservation can be canceled but I have NO REFUND i then asked for a manager and they told my I have to email them only! Wow I! Then customer service is horrible really in a matter of 4 hours I lost $160 wow this 3rd party has no consideration at all! HORRIBLE Marianela Gutierrez

I found it extremely difficult to get a hold of someone to cancel my reservation. With online bookings, confidence in the service provider is essential. Particularly for repeat business.
I ended up cancelling via email which worked out well.
My daughter was stuck at the DETROIT airport, called Get A Room to book a room at the Westin Hotel in the DETROIT airport. They sent her a confirmation for the Westin in the DALLAS airport. And charged our credit card $218. Called them immediately, nobody I spoke to could help, but the next day I received an email that they would refund my money. And today I received a credit to my charge card. Thank you Get A Room.

I booked this afternoon (10/30) and then needed to cancel (funeral arrangements for family coming in for recent death in the family). Only then did I find that the room I thought was booked through the hotel website was actually thru getaroom.com and the cancellation was only allowed prior to 5 pm on 10/30. Hilton/Hampton cannot help me. Isn't there some way this room can be cancelled. It is for 11/3-4, which should be plenty of time. I have NEVER seen a site that you had to cancel within 4-5 hours or pay full price penalty. Please help!

I booked a room in Dallas and I was thinking it was a Hilton website and I found a room at Embassy Suites that was the best rate special at $189 but soon as I saw the breakdown they charged me $249 for the room and $97 in taxes. I called and said it was a mistake since they claimed the room was $189. I called and talked to a rather rude customer service agent and they said you agreed to the $249 and I said I didn't and wanted to cancel, she said it would cost one nights stay which was all I was staying for, I said I wasn't going to stay and will ask my credit card company to fight the charges.
I didn't stay at the hotel but was still charged for the room. Right now American Express is going to fight the charge but pay attention since they mirror the website of the place you want to stay

WORST experience ever! Booked with them thinking I was booking with the actual hotel. Asked if my room was with my son's hockey team and they assured me it was, they also assured me it was at the discounted price our coach told us we were getting. My credit card got charged double the price and when I called the hotel they told me that I was not in the block with the team. The lady found my reservation and told me that these guys lie to people all the time. I called "get a room" complaints after the hotel lady told me who it was I was actually talking to and they took 15 dollars off. I'm paying over 200 dollars for a room that was supposed to be 70 dollars! DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM! They make their website look exactly like it's the actual hotels, with pictures and all. RIP OFF!

Convenient to use website but not able to apply discounts via website (AAA, military, senior, etc.) which would have helped with the price.

Get a room pretended to be the hotel when I called. Canceling became impossible. I called the hotel to cancel and I still got charged for the room because I didn't cancel with Get a Room. Now we owe for one nigh we never stayed (and did called to cancel) as well as all their fees which we didn't know were in addition to typical hotel and city taxes.

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
