** UPDATE: Getaroom.com refunded my charges. They were quick to respond to my complaint. I'm changing my review from 1 star to 3 stars. If I didn't need to make changes to my reservation they would have been just fine, and I wouldn't have known the difference. I still don't like that the URL is misleading... I'm sure A LOT of people have clicked on it without knowing. Just a word of caution, if you want to book directly with a hotel, make sure you're on the right website. **
I did a Google search for Holiday Inn Express Saskatoon and the first link that came up said: https://holidayinnsaskatoon.guestreservations.com/
It says Holiday Inn Express right in the web address, so I thought I was booking a hotel room directly on the Holiday Inn Express website. But as it turns out it was actually Getaroom.com. I only found this out when I needed to cancel the reservation and couldn't because the booking was through this 3rd party website, not the hotel. The website for Getaroom is VERY sneaky and misleading... it is NOT CLEAR that it isn't the website for the hotel. This is wrong and they shouldn't be allowed to operate this way.

I initially only booked one night. But needed to add a 2nd. The website tells you to call Customer service, you go through a verification process then the customer service rep says they can't edit... only cancel and rebook. Then they sent me to a another queue for reservations, which started the process of revivification again. This was an annoying experience. It was much easier to cancel and rebook online.
This website adds huge fees to the room price - book directly with a hotels website. We were charged a $70 fee for a $129 room. I called the hotel directly and they said that fee was directly related to what the 3rd party charges customers.

If you're booking more than one room in a reservation, you can only select the same type of room for each one. It doesn't allow you to customize the room type for each room individually, which is allowable under every other hotel booking I've ever experienced. This seems like very sloppy or lazy design.

I thought I was booking direct with hotel, and GAR had hijacked the IP address. I realized it when they charged vme $100 tax on a $160 room. Tried to cancel charge, tried to cancel and rebook room, no go on that. NO EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE----BUYER BEWARE!

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.
Answer: I'm definitely in. There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
