Update, I received a call from the rep at Get a room stating I would be reimbursed the fee less state and hotel tax, I did receive $162.00 (241.72 less the correct tax rate). I emailed the rep thanking her for doing the right thing, not for her assistance since this should of never occurred.
I thought I was booking directly with DoubleTree-Hilton via their site, apparently "Get a Room" redirected my reservation to them, there was no notification of this. In calling them they stated they had a contract with DoubleTree to redirect, checking with DoubleTree this was a lie. They charged me over $240.00 in what they called "Tax Recovery & Services fees" stating this was mandatory and they could not disclose per contract with the hotel... again a lie. From now on I am only calling in for my reservations. I am out the $240 plus, they said they could reimburse me $58 ONLY but again that never occurred. They need to be shut down.
Having been advised the price of my room, I carried through with the purchase on my cell phone not seeing the $150 in taxes and service charges that were added. A $250 booking became $400. When I called them to complain they told me they could not break down the taxes and service charges. I then phoned the hotel and they advised me that the taxes would be in the neighborhood of $50. This leaves $100 as their commission, far too high an amount. When I complained to them again on the phone after a lot of runaround they agreed to return a deposit equal to $64 Canadian. Since then I have received an email confirming $50 Canadian and that amount has been credited to my account. All efforts to point out this discrepancy have been ignored.
I was trying to book with hotel directly and accidentally got forwarded to this website. The hotel gives cancellation with no penalty if cancelled within 72 hours. Not knowing I was booking through this site they charged 200 extra per night in fees. When I tried to cancel they said no refunds which is criminal since the hotel permits it and it was false advertising how I even got to the site in the first place. I should be able to get a full refund!

Accidentally booked 2 nights stay at wrong hotel, noticed immediately, called to cancel, still being charged full amount of $835. US Dollars.
There is no recourse for even a partial refund for 2 nights stay over a month after room was booked!

Was rushing through a day of booking process and inadvertently booked through getaroom.com rather than the website of the hotel. Not until I entered my CC information did the price increase by 70% in hidden fees and taxes. These taxes and fees came with no explanation!
I didn't even intend to proceed but accidentally clicked submit. I called immediately after and was offered 50$ off the 170$ up charge. This company seems to only exist to take advantage of consumers and serve no purpose in actually booking a room.
I am in the process of working with AmEx to dispute the charges and recoup my poached money. Disgusting practices.
Finally, I'm quite surprised by the high number of 5 star reviews flooding this review site. I suspect this is also fraudulent.

This merchant poses as a direct website for the hotel. They charge exorbitant fees on top and offer a no/cancellation/refund/change policy. They are frauds and scammers. I attempted to book a room directly with the Marriott and through my search was re-routed to this scam site. I did not realize that booked through them until I called the hotel to let them know of my late arrival. After realizing i was paying HUNDREDS more than what it would have been to book through the hotel as I intended, i called to request a refund.

I used my travel booking company to book a room, they booked my room via GetaRoom - I booked a room with a whirlpool tub, it was my entire purpose of booking the room. I had surgery a couple weeks prior and did not know if we would be able to go out for Valentines, so I was excited to find a room that we could chill and enjoy ourselves in. When we checked in, we had a different room and I am going on almost an hour on the phone trying to get it resolved, They told me I can eat the price difference or cancel. Yeah, those are great options, not even an offer of a credit, just a we do not care about you, so get off the phone and here let me put you on hold now, after 30 mins of being stuck on our automated call system stuck in loop. Worst Customer Service & Horrible Advertising, thanks for going to your extreme to ensure my first weekend out was a complete fail. I will be telling my company on Monday to never use you guys again and I highly recommend others do not as well.

Getaroom's website is deceptive, misleading and deceitful. The price displayed for 2 nights was $116, which was slightly less than other sites ($68/night on Booking, Expedia, Priceline). Once I entered credit card information, the charge tripled to $343.95. I immediately called to void the charge. The service representative quoted their "no cancellation" policy. This is not a traveler friendly company who wants to keep you as a customer. Using "no cancellation for any reason" policy to justify their outrageous upcharges is certainly a sign they know this business is a scam.

Post prices marginally lower than what the hotel charges directly, and then tack on inordinate fees that are not explicitly disclosed. I consider that the MO of scam artists. If you've been had, no matter what they claim or try to charge you for a cancellation fee, do NOT accept. Take it up with your credit card company; no worries!
Big scam. Asked to be put into a SPECIFIC hotel - family funeral members were all staying at. They booked us into another - even after we stated the name several times. After confirming email we noticed it was not the correct hotel. Tried to get our money back, no deal. I would never recommend this company.
Also representative spoke terrible English.

I found it extremely difficult to get a hold of someone to cancel my reservation. With online bookings, confidence in the service provider is essential. Particularly for repeat business.
I ended up cancelling via email which worked out well.
I would give zero stars, if allowed.
This site billed us a 50% service fee AFTER we made our hotel reservation. When calling the offshore customer care, they said "no cancellations" and hung up on us. Total racket that makes money on overcharging fees.
Will not give refunds for cancellation even tho over 1 month in advance, charged 60 dollars for"extra people". Rip off, scam stay away from this company. Bad. Not sure how or why they are in business.
Prepaid for 3 rooms for 2 nights at Williamsburg Lodge. When booking it states refund for each room if cancelled by certain date. Need to cancel 1 room 1 night called told will only cancel entire reservation and cannot re book as no rooms available on wait list. This catch 22 is as dishonest, contacted them and after some useless platitudes basically told me too bad you loose. Do not use them go directly to hotel get same rates. Also found this site through Trip Advisor thought it would be a good site to use.
GAR staff intentionally changed my two room reservation from 2 adults and 3 kids to 6 adults and included a hidden surcharge of $1000 that increased the total bill by over 20%. Countless hours on the phone where they refused to take responsibility for even basic customer service proved useless. They are skilled in redirecting, delaying, pointing fingers - everything other than resolving problems. Never received a refund for their error. Do not ever use this service!
Just got totally messed over by getaroom.com. Sold us a hotel room in France they did not have. All hotels in the town were full, had to drive another two hours to find a decent place to stay. Will never use them again. These folks are scam artists. Be careful when booking through Kayak.

Called the customer service 5 min later that said we can cancel but you will not get a refund. Good lesson.
Confusing web site caused room to be booked in the right town but wrong state. I called GetARoom within seconds after the booking notice. No agents available. Confusing menu. Finally got through only to be told there was nothing they could do. They simply reference their multi-page terms and conditions. Stay away it is not worth the few dollars saved.

Staffs were friendly and helpful, despite unable to find our reservation details initially. When they finally uncovered our particulars within an hour, they followed up with a returned call. Communication was an issue as most staff speaks little to no English. As this resort is built more than 30 years ago, do not expect too much of sound proofing. We could hear everything from our Neighbours' conversation to pouring a glass of water. As for the spacious rooms, they are clean with fresh linens daily. View is breathtaking.

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
