Was rushing through a day of booking process and inadvertently booked through getaroom.com rather than the website of the hotel. Not until I entered my CC information did the price increase by 70% in hidden fees and taxes. These taxes and fees came with no explanation!
I didn't even intend to proceed but accidentally clicked submit. I called immediately after and was offered 50$ off the 170$ up charge. This company seems to only exist to take advantage of consumers and serve no purpose in actually booking a room.
I am in the process of working with AmEx to dispute the charges and recoup my poached money. Disgusting practices.
Finally, I'm quite surprised by the high number of 5 star reviews flooding this review site. I suspect this is also fraudulent.

OH! Where do I begin? Giving book a room with a 1 star is way too much. They are deceiving. Was on Hampton inn website booking a room some kind of a way was redirected to BOOK A ROOM website without knowing. They use some way of redirecting you to their website without your knowledge. And I am not the only one this has happened too. Have read many reviews saying the same thing. I put in a dispute about the charge because I canceled my reservation after a few hours because I found a room cheaper. But when calling Hampton Inn, they were booked through a third party and they could not help me would have to contact GET A ROOM. OH! Get a room is impossible to contact. So, I put a dispute in with my credit card company and the result was the reservation is non-refundable. So not only do they get my money but the money they used to make the reservation. What a con.

Terrible company with terrible support and terrible terms and conditions. I was misled to booking through their site somehow and was not trying to book the specific hotel that I was given. One of those buttons that looked the same color, etc. and then by the time I hurried and clicked to fill the form with my data and confirm/purchase (no visible notice of booking the wrong hotel with the wrong company)... I was sent the email. At that point I IMMEDIATELY called them to explain and get my money back/cancel. They pointed to their terms and conditions and refused to help me (after an hour wait time on hold).)-:
After the hold and terrible support/unwillingness to do anything, I called the actual hotel. Extremely friendly and made a note on the account that I did not plan on using and never planned on booking with that specific hotel, but the Marriott hotel just down the road. She said that I booked through a 3rd party and that was the problem. This third party has 100s of terrible reviews and there is a good reason why.

Fraudulent excessive charges and fraudulent currency invoicing (invoiced AUD and charged USD)
We made a hotel booking. Ramada by Wyndham in Scarborough Perth WA
My wife cannot remember the website through which she started but she was finally redirected to this obviously fraudulent website in the process: getaroom.com.
She made a booking for 3 days and made an online payment for AU$981.17 using a credit card
Three frauds have occurred:
1. We were charged an extra AU$337.59 which did not appear anywhere in the transaction process but was present on the invoice.
2. The whole amount was then charged in USD rather than AUD despite the invoice being clearly in AUD
3. We where then also charged $68.08 international transaction fee!
We contacted the hotel and they have actually booked the reservation. The hotel however only has the AU$981.17.
I can understand that some of these booking companies charge a "booking fee/tax" but the excessive additional AU$337.59 where not mentioned anywhere in the transaction process.
Charging USD rather than AUD is obvious fraud especially if the invoice and every part of the transaction is in AUD.
We have been unable to contact anyone at the booking company despite multiple attempts. Their number go nowhere (classic scamer behavior)
I've cancelled my credit card under advice from the bank and have started a fraudulent dispute investigation through my bank.

Getaroom's website is deceptive, misleading and deceitful. The price displayed for 2 nights was $116, which was slightly less than other sites ($68/night on Booking, Expedia, Priceline). Once I entered credit card information, the charge tripled to $343.95. I immediately called to void the charge. The service representative quoted their "no cancellation" policy. This is not a traveler friendly company who wants to keep you as a customer. Using "no cancellation for any reason" policy to justify their outrageous upcharges is certainly a sign they know this business is a scam.

Absolutely horrible experience dealing with getaroom. Stay away from them go directly to hotels you want to book, don't use this 3rd party junk company. I made a huge mistake to book through them after a long flight. If you book with a hotel you want directly they have a reputation to protect, this company is a 3rd party junk and there shouldn't've be a reason for them to even exist but was sold on this from a google ad which they probably pay for so they can come up on top of the search. You want to book Hilton, go directly to Hilton, not getaroom like I did which ended up with me writing a review to help others not have to deal with a junk company like this one.

I thought I was booking online on the hotel's own website. I normally am careful about doing so. This time I obviously was not careful enough.
I cancelled my reservation online and on the phone, with a customer service rep, after being aghast at roughly $70 in "taxes and service fees" on top of the $149 room cost. (One night stay). Yikes. "taxes and service fees" are nearly 50 percent of the room rate.
Through this process I learned - from the customer service rep and via the website I used that yielded the ridiculously high "taxes an service fees" - that I had used Getaroom.com to book the hotel room. I later saw that the website first labels itself as guestreservations.com. And when you click on "terms and conditions" of the cancellation e-mail, you see that the company is affiliated with Priceline.com and Booking.com.
Hopefully, the refund will show up in the next three to five days, as I was told by the customer service representative over the phone. I am including my confirmation number below. I don't know whether this is the confirmation number of the original booking or the confirmation number for the cancellation.
I feel stupid for inadvertently using the guestreservations.com (Getaroom) website. It is truly a buyer beware landscape when it comes to online booking.
I found the hotel website and got a better room for $158 - with taxes of not quite $14 - and no fees!
Update: Yes, I did gat a refund from getaroom.com, guestreservation, Priceline - whatever!
I will not be changing my review and giving anymore stars. The point of my review was to caution other people about the site, and to encourage people to call the hotel directly - or if they are using an online site to double check that it is part of the hotel or is specifically contracted with the hotel as its agent to book rooms. I purchased two rooms on the 16th from Agoda which I believe is also Priceline I received a bill for $271 3 days later I received another bill for $317 from get a room. I had never heard of get a room so I was charged twice for my two rooms I tried to explain to them over and over for the last 3 months they told me it was booking fees mom and I paid booking fees for $317 when I booked through a goat I never even heard of getting a room. They refuse to return my money so if you use a good luck to you cuz you're going to need it

DO NOT USE THIS SITE TO BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM. You can get a room at the hotel for the same price. THEY DON'T OFFER GOOD DEALS PLUS THEIR CANCELATION POLICY IS HORRIBLE!
I booked a room through them and saw a better deal with the actual hotel. So, I canceled this room with getaroom.com within minutes of booking it and they refused to give me my money back. They do not honor the 24-hour refund policy, which most hotels and other booking sites honor. They claimed that the hotel wouldn't refund them so they couldn't refund me and only offered 10% of the $860 that they charged my credit card. The total experience felt like a scam. I ended up paying double the cost for my trip to Louisville due to this company.

GETAROOM website offered the lowest hotel rate online for an Elevated Two Queen Beds Renovated room at the Strat Hotel compared to Trivago, Priceline, Travelocity, Trip Advisor, Traveluro, and other travel agency websites.
Further, GETAROOM was "honest" to include information about a Hotel Resort Fee and the "exact" amount the hotel will charge per night. This is my 1st time to make a reservation via GETAROOM. I am impressed by their integrity, professionalism, and dedication to provide the best hotel rates online. Godspeed!
Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
