It was my first time using this service, I was travelling to Mastichr in the Netherlands and needed some relatively cheap place to stay for a night.
That's how I found a Stayokay place in Maastricht and paid only $35 for a night. It was much cheaper than anything else I could find with some other popular booking services.
I forgot to mention a friend of mine recommended this service to me exactly for this purpose. Now I have them bookmarked and whenever I need a room, I know where to find it π
So, I am sharing my new discovery with all of you!

Just as others state, when you go to a hotel to do direct booking they have a pop up ad to reserve a room which redirects you to their site. You don't realize it's a pop up as it looks like you are booking direct through the hotel. They'll also add in a certain percentage discount but when you attempt to enter your information to receive the discount, it will tell you it's not available for that particular booking. You can tell from their responses to individual complaints that they are not in the least bit worried about resolving or changing their deceptive tactics. They charge more than booking direct with a hotel but the unfortunate part is you are frequently unaware you did not book direct until it is too late and you are now subject to their terms of agreement. They also count on the fact that no one reads the terms of agreement. This company has multiple re-directs but seems to be a ***************** in the end. My booking was through hotelvalues.com but when you attempt to change your reservation, it directs you to getaroom, I paid $90.00 extra. Many other complaints were charged a great deal more.

I made a series of a couple reservations to evade tax recapture and I cancelled in the time alotted. How do I rectify this since phone conversations are NOT encouraged with this service. Also the reservation did not disclose a $12 a night per pet charge. Why has Howard Johnson not receive my payment made to you folks?

Such Scammers! PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS TRAP. I first went on their website to book a hotel which showed me Β£90 for the complete booking. Then at the end after inputting my details, it confirmed taking the amount. Immediately i was on the phone with customer service to explain something went wrong and it was taken with the wrong amount as well as the check in dates, the amount was wrong and the customer rep i spoke to adviced me that this is not refundable but she can speak with the hotel. So she asked if i wanted to cancel and reach out to the hotel, not understanding that the hotel will refuse if we cancelled. They played me and kept my Β£180. Any sort of communication or me trying to contact the manager is met with opposition, rude customer service. AVOID AT ALL COST.

The team has gotten in touch and i have now been given the full refund of this, My advice is to check properly and get in touch with them before booking.

The biggest scam, they added a 50 % charge on top of the hotel price
I wanted book hotel direct on the hotel web page, somehow I was redirect to getaroom. Price for room was 585, same as on hotel web page. When I paid, received email, where price was 863, with service fees 278. In 10 mins I received email, that I paid 977 euro, it means plus 113 another fees. I called to customer service getaroom, they told me, that amount 977 was charged by hotel, so I called directly to hotel, they even didn't have our booking. So we paid double price for that room. Getaroom is cheater, liar, scammer. Watch out for them.

Stay away from getaroom.com, apparently a subsidiary of priceline. Quite honestly if priceline is supporting this business, I won't be using them either. The fine print says that the hotel is non-refundable. I get it. But when you go to cancel it is the easiest thing to do, and it makes it seem like everything is fine and your refund is on the way. We called several times, were put on hold, and were hung up on.
UPDATE: After multiple calls and giving poor reviews on every site I could find, they did refund my room. I do not change my review. STAY AWAY and call hotels directly. Rates are usually the same.
I wonder if I showed up to keep my booking if I would even have a room waiting for me. WORST HOTEL BOOKING EXPERIENCE EVER. Customer service is NO help - after all, what do they care, they have your money AND get to book the room again.

I had made reservations for a family vacation and they took it upon themselves to cancel the reservation without my authority or having me be made aware of. I pulled up to the hotel with my family after a long day only to be turned away at the front desk. The rep at the desk was beyond helpful and explained this is a constant issue with "getaroom". They're notorious for taking your payment and cancelling only to keep the profit.
Really unprofessional customer service. Called multiple times and had to constantly repeat myself because the agent (each time) wasn't paying attention to me. They all seem to speak broken English and had zero interest in resolving my issue.
Finally the hotel front desk rep took it upon himself to speak with the get a room agent I had on the line and he too had to repeat the situation several times. After an hour and a half of wasted time the hotel agent was able to comp me a room for the trouble and explained they're working really hard to rid their deal with getaroom. He went on to explain they've only caused more trouble and has made the hotels in the area look bad.
Save yourself the stress and trouble and book elsewhere. They're professional con artists at get a room!

I have never felt so scammed in my life. I made a reservation through what was advertised at one rate and when i went to confirm the payment, it thanked me for paying a doubled amount. I immediately called them and they said there was nothing they could do. After over an hour of not accepting this, they finally said "well if the hotel says you can cancel, we will give your refund"
I called the hotel explaining I want to cancel the room and get my refund with getaroom to then book through the hotel directly, and the hotel said of course you can. I went ahead and booked with the hotel right then and decided I would cancel if they didnt confirm my refund. When I called getaroom back she said we need to speak to the hotel and then we will call you back. She calls back and says okay we will give you a refund within 24 hours, we will send you a confirmation email. Where I made the mistake is not waiting on that email, however I had already been on the phone for over 2 hours trying to deal with this on my last day of vacation. I never got an email.
When checking out of the hotel, they said I did not book through them that I had booked through the 3rd party. So what clearly happened is when they called the hotel directly, they somehow communicated that I was going to book with them. Which was NOT TRUE. I have had a headache with my bank ever since, since they technically have documents that I paid and got a room there.
Again, STAY AWAY!

This hotel website is awful. Customer service is completely unhelpful and basically cut me off. Took our money saying they cannot help in anyway. Website details an unclear but soon want to take money off you on a page where you cannot check your booking. When we tried to navigate back it's still unclear and customer service really don't want to know. We will not be using this hotel chain again!

Answer: They are not ethical. For me, they used a website that appeared to be the actual hotel website, did not identify themselves when they should have, and did not mention booking fees while they charged a 30 percent booking fee for a room that was its normal price. They were supposed to cancel charges on my credit card and did not. STAY AWAY!
Answer: They are a site attached to Trip Advisor---- if you see them on screen while trying to book a room-- hit cancel. I'm out over $150 because of their fraudulent cancellation policy.
Answer: Thought I was booking on the actual hotel sight but was deceived in as much as it was Getaroom. Talked to someone else also staying at this hotel at the same for about a third less. Called them right back and had already charged my card and it would be up to 3 weeks to refund. That's about what it took but did get refund. Then checked reviews and no one had anything good to say about getaroom. Go straight to hotel sight of one you know and trust or stick with something like Travelocity.

There's something very deceptive, if not illegal, when you start off on a hotel's website and when you click Make a Reservation, it somehow transfers you to the GetARoom site without your knowledge. I had no idea this was done until I received their email confirmation. I'm thinking of contacting my state's Consumer Protection Div. Of the AG's Office to file a complaint when I get back from vacation.

Answer: Wow. This is one bad company. Made a reservation and then needed to cancel. They gave cancel date all along. I called to cancel on that date and was told that date was only for 1 minute of date they told me. I was supposed to forfeit one night's cost. Luckily I made reservation on AMEX and they'll tell this fraud company to get lost. Moral of the story: make reservations through hotel.
