I made a purchase end of February beginning of March. On the website it said that the product was available with no notification that it would even be on back order. I kept checking my email for the shipping information and never got it. I sent an email to them asking what the hold up was essentially and if there was an ETA. They told me that they tried reaching out (I checked my spam and everything) but there was nothing from them. They then proceeded to tell me that since I hadn't responded they were going to cancel my order since they did not hear from me. UHM I think not! I never wanted my order canceled. So I asked what an ETA is and they said the beginning to end of April. Ok... I then tell them that is fine and I would wait. That is the information I was given at the start of March. I still had not heard from anyone thinking oh April is almost here, so I decided to reach out. They have now told me it has now been pushed to middle of May! Why did I have to reach out to them to find this information out?! In all of the emails exchanged not once did they sound concerned or want to keep my business and kept offering me to cancel. Most businesses try a lot harder to keep a sale. The emails seems as if they are written by brainless humans or a robot. I HIGHLY recommend taking business else where. The only good thing to come out of this is finding the same product at Target of all places and cheaper. If anyone wants to shop for similar quality go to Target or ALL MODERN. Bottom line do not support this company unless you want a headache, crummy customer service and waste your time. :)
I wish I had read reviews about English Elm before I bought from them. I was looking for an ottoman which was back ordered everywhere else, but English Elm's site didn't say anything about it being back ordered or out of stock, so I went ahead and bought it. I got a confirmation email but didn't hear anything else for 3 days. After 3 days I received an email saying that they don't actually have it in stock and won't be receiving any stock until August and they wanted to put me on a wait list. Umm, no, I'm not waiting 5 months for something you told me you had now. I tried calling but never got through to anyone and they didn't call me back. I sent an email and cancelled my order and got my money back in a few days, so that's good I guess? So if you're looking for a company that will take your money for an item they don't actually have, ask you to wait an extra 5 months for it, not respond to your calls, but return your money in a somewhat timely manner, then English Elm is perfect for you!
Placed an order but cancelled it via email prior to shipping (no one answers or calls back on the customer service phone). No one got back to me for 3 days so I sent a follow up making sure they cancelled it. Got 2 responses in 12 hours that they would go ahead, make sure it didn't ship and then cancel and get back to me and confirm. They shipped it 8 hours later (4 days after cancellation request) then said sorry it's too late. They are refusing to have it rerouted back to their warehouse which UPS only allows shipper to do. Saying if I deny the package, they will charge me $140 for RT shipping on a $220 item. Has taken them more than 24-48 hours to respond to emails so we could work this out. No email signatures. Not sure if real humans work there as they do not provide human to human interaction with customer service.
Terrible customer service. No phone calls. Read all return information. You basically cannot return anything for any reason. Read all reviews on the internet, then shop at a reliable store that will stand behind their products like Wayfair.
Do not order from this website - they will scam you. I ordered a $200+ end table from them and they emailed me letting me know that the order would be back ordered for weeks and I had the option to cancel. I immediately cancelled and purchased something else and then was still charged for the first item, it was shipped to me without the possibility of return. The reviews on their actual website are fake and you cannot even speak to anyone in customer service.
Placed item for electric blanket. Order canceled weeks after order placed. Never had in stock to begin with
Terrible bed. Terrible customer service. My bed had split wood even before putting it together but I told myself it was fine because you "couldn't see that part" but the second I put my mattress on the entire headboard broke. I emailed the company with pictures asking for a refund and they told me it doesn't qualify. Ummm if the entire bed breaking doesn't qualify I don't know what will! Been going back and forth now and they're still refusing to refund. TERRIBLE company, product, and customer service team. Run, you'll thank me later.
Never, ever order from a company that refuses to put a phone number or physical address on their website, or provide it to resolve complaints.
Shipped an item I had cancelled, and refused to recall the shipment, putting the burden on me to ship the item back.
Do not order from this Chicago based company. They will ask for a review when you place your order. Most all their reviews are from people who just placed their order. The problems begin once you order. Company is impossible to reach by telephone, and emails are not helpful. I was told that my items were in stock, and would be shipped in 7 business days. Later told that item is in the where house, but not enough trailers to ship? No tracking # provided. Did not ship within promised period. When told I wanted to cancel, English Elm claimed item is considered shipped, even though it hasn't. Very concerned with business practices, and many poor reviews about broken merchandise RCD, lon waits for orders, etc. Let the buyer be ware! I would never order from English Elm again!
I was told via email and text that my account was being refunded after the order was cancelled because of a stocking issue.
It has been several days now and no transfer transaction to my bank has ocurred.
I have sent numerous messages and no response. Phone number does not work. Be careful!
I purchased lamps. They came not fully assembled. When I pushed the cord down through the lamp to complete assembly, it got twisted and frayed. I requested to send them back. First, I was asked for photos of the fraying and when I sent them, I was told by Andrew N. That this is normal and that this will be considered a "regular return". I said that if I have to damage an item to fully assemble it that it is not a regular return. They refuse to pay for return shipping. I finally started packing the lamps up and discovered that one had a piece cracked off of it. Due to the time that we have been arguing, they now say that my time limit for a damage claim has expired. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY.
Radio silence for weeks out of the nearly two months we waited for the product. Expected delivery December 18th and it arrived a full month later. No updates for four weeks. Then the chair arrived damaged.
This is the worst online purchase experience I've ever had. We ordered a swivel glider for nursing and it arrived weeks after our baby was born leaving us with no place to nurse during that time. English Elm is absolute garbage customer service and the products are either used or getting damaged in their incredibly slow shipping.
I don't usually leave reviews but this time I had to. I wish I could leave negative stars. I ordered 2 nightstands that I really loved on the pictures, when I ordered them I got an email that they went out of stock as soon as I ordered them. I got them 1.5 months later and they were so damaged that one of them I couldn't even take out of the box because it was basically pieces of wood scattered in the box. The other nightstand is cracked all over the sides. I messaged them the following day to ship them back, and Andrew at the claims department was horrible. He only wanted to give me one shipping label back to send it back, while both were damaged. Their policy states that they will cover return shipping if the products are damaged, but he ignored that. All Andrew did was just deny my second claim with the second nightstand to not give me the second shipping label. Also replacement nightstands were not available at that time either. I tried calling them and leaving them voicemails but they never pick up the phone and they never call back. It's been a terrible terrible experience. I'm still trying to figure this out and it's been several months already. Look at the pics below of both nightstands, and you'll never order from here!
I ordered a room divider from English Elm and a day later I got a email saying the item was out of stock. So I got my money back and noticed they were still selling the same item a week later. I then ordered a different divider and same thing happened again. Apparently they don't have the products they're advertising.
I ordered a bed months ago that was reported as "in stock" on the company's website. Apparently that was not the case. My shipment proceeded to be delayed for 3 months, with several generated emails saying "I was on the next shipment, make sure you reserve your spot" then only to receive the same email with a delay the following month.
Alas my bed came... the headboard was completely broken. As for the bed's based, it was not broken but severely scratched up making it a total eyesore in my room. I contacted the company and they said they could send me a new headboard. In 2 months... I asked if instead they could just give me a partial refund (a measly $200) and not go through the hassle of sending the headboard, and they refused. Needless to say, I will not shop here again or advise anyone to do so. Use Wayfair if you must go cheap and fast -- at least their customer service is good.
I ordered a desk almost 5 months ago and it hasn't been delivered. I've been in contact with their team via email, and they provide no updates unless asked for one. They've continuously told me the shipping date gets pushed back every month.
Don't order from here.
I ordered a small table for my laptop in October 15th. It's now Thanksgiving. There's no shipping update, no order update, no phone number to call, and no response to my email inquiries so now I'll have to do a chargeback which is a royal pain!
It's really disappointing especially considering I spent hours searching for a US based company to avoid these hassles.
I read the reviews saying items weren't as pictured and returns were a hassle... but I bought anyway :( And when my rug didn't even have the same colors as the one i purchased, I returned it... for a shipping fee of $124! English Elm doesn't even give you a printable shipping label and their email states if you don't give them they tracking number it may result in them not giving a refund! AWFUL! STAY AWAY!
I placed an order that was expected to arrive in a few days, but when I placed the order I received no indication of when it would be received. I reached out and they informed me my order was actually backordered for weeks and if I wanted to cancel I had to reach out 7 days before it was going to be shipped (which according to them, was weeks away). I went ahead and cancelled the order and purchased something from somewhere else in it's place. 5 days later, the item from English arrived to my apartment and they are saying too bad there is nothing they can do. There was no apology, no attempt to make it right, and now I am stuck with a $200+ console table that is difficult to build and I have no where to put it. TERRIBLE 0/10 would recommend
I ordered a rug on October 2,2020 with the understanding that normal delivery ( outside of an Amazon-type environment) could take up to 2 weeks.
I have made 3-4 inquiries about delivery. They provide no tracking numbers. After 3 weeks, I still have nothing. Someone always responds thanking me for my patience, but that no consolation.
It's a horrible process, and once I get delivery (if I get delivery), it will be my last encounter. Beware if you decide to order from English Elm.
Answer: Price. Lowest cost versus other retailers and didn't realize customer service would be so bad.
Answer: Hello! We unfortunately aren't able to meet the call volume demand. We are very responsive in our emails. Have you attempted to contact us?
Answer: Bad service. Called 3 days in a row, left several messages and emails twice- no response- good thing I did not order- you just lost me as a customer K FULLER
