Well, if you're selling something, you won't get much for it. They are also limiting what they will take to the items that sell easiest for the most money (you know, the stuff you could easily sell yourself without their help...). If you were going to donate or toss it anyway, then maybe it would make sense to use their site.
I have been enjoying EBTH for a few years now, always interested in what they offer, keeping an eye on everything, specially in the art section.
On May 12/2019 I was the lucky winning bidder of an 8" X 10" oil painting by famous American tonalist, Charles Warren Eaton. One just like it, same size and similar scene, was sold at Shannon's Fine Art Auctioneer in Milford Connecticut on 10/28/2010 for $ 4800. 00
My lid on this auction was $ 5000. 00. I could not believe my eyes when I got it for only $ 600.00.
This was at EBTH in Dallas, Texas.
The artwork arrived three days later, perfectly packed, in St. Louis Missouri, and is being housed ever since in my studio for my total enjoyment.
I could not be happier!
We do a lot of purchasing 20,000 to 30.000 yearly on Ebay. Thought I would try EBTH First item I won took over a month to get. Second item never got after nearly a month. Finally after many phone calls to EBTH they said item was damaged before shipment. They never contacted me to let me know this had happened. Also contacted them couple times about tax exemption for our retail business. They said they will get back to us. Never got a response back. Probably will not deal with them again. Wasted too much of my time.
I don't get all the bad reviews either, I've bought eight times from sales in Atlanta, New York and Austin, half shipping and half pickup. My items were always exactly as described if not better, and I was aware of shipping before I purchased so if some shipping was high I wouldn't bid on the item. It's not like they surprise you with the shipping. Meanwhile shipping was always reasonable for my shipped items. I had one item that took a few weeks to ship and the cust. Service people were great - very professional and knew exactly what was going on with my item. I love this site.
I have purchased 4 framed pictures. Two of them arrived damaged! They want to blame UPS but the boxes were not damaged. EBTH does not know how to pack pictures for shipping and have made no effort to look into improving how they do things. If packing and shipping is done by a vendor they make no effort to control the quality of that vendor's product. They are really slow at providing refunds! They won't escalate your issues to management. This is also a clear indication that upper management does not care about customer concerns or suggestions. EBTH has a lot if internal issues and issues with their website and notifications to clients. They don't want to take responsibility for anything. They DO make sure they promptly get your money.
Bad descriptions, lack of knowledge of offered items, doubt it was an honest auction because some high valued items were sold for pennies. No accounting of items as to what they sold for and sellers amount given. In my opinion they are crooks!
Not only did we receive an incredible deal but the customer service representative that we dealt with answered our many questions (and we had many) about the whole process. Finally the shippers they used were superb and our items arrived in excellent condition!
What a great concept. Such a cool thing, great pictures and products. But by the time you pay for the shipping (and wait WEEKS to get your item), it's no longer fun or cool. It's a shame, because they took something that could be so awesome, and really screwed it up! They should take a look at ThredUp. Shipping is always reasonable. No more ebth for me!
I've bought a few items on EBTH over the last year and have been pretty pleased with the items themselves. A point of contention is that the shipping is always higher than what is quoted to you and the packing is iffy depending on the seller. For the last jewelry lot that weighed maybe 8 oz they charged $20 to ship in a small flat rate priority box. Inside everything was jumbled together in a plastic bag... all the necklaces were tangled and two items were broken.
I have been working with this company for some time because you do see some good stuff on their website. However, a significant number of my purchases have arrived damaged. They overcharge for shipping and then don't pack things appropriately. If you challenge them on shipping, they reduce the price. Make sure you challenge them. They automatically make you pay for an item, before you have a chance to ask any questions. I have asked questions, and received the answers after they deducted the payment from your account. Too bad if you don't like the answer. If items are broken and they are what you bid for, they will only partially refund your purchase price even if the rest of the lot was total garbage. I have shopped there for quite some time but I did not receive an couple of items and they have told me too bad for you. Well, no. Too bad for them as I will no longer shop their site.
I pursued EBTH's shipping policy and challenged them to justify shipping cost. They did end up reducing the shipping rate from $71.83 to $23.76 which I believe is more in line for this type of logistics service.
I bought quite a few things on EBTH over the past year or so. I have noticed that shipping cost have been going up. They claim anything purchased over $100 requires more insurance or some nonsense. I bought a tin toy airplane that weighs about 1 pound. The shipping and packing was $75.00. Thats total BS. Here's a hint to all, if you see something you like on EBTH search for it on EBAY if the price makes sense buy it there. The delivery will be much faster and muuuuuch cheaper.
We have purchased several unique, high quality items from EBTH. Shipping is done promptly, and extreme care is taken to make sure the item you receive is in good shape. We've purchased pottery, jewelry and vintage clothing.
Do not purchase from this company. I have had problems with them three times. Local deliveries weren't made for over a month and only then because I called and emailed repeatedly. Now they have sent me the wrong item. It has been ten days of emails and it is still not resolved. They seem to think I should pay to return the item. And they won't issue me a refund on my much more expensive item until the wrong one is returned. Half the time their online chat is down and their customer service is abysmal. They take 2 days to respond to an email.
I have purchased several items locally from EBTH and I was very pleased with the results. I will not buy anything that has to be shipped any more because the shipping costs were much higher than quoted. I also had a problem with my last local purchase. I won two lamps and they were a very good price, however I was not notified about the pickup location or time. Fortunately I was able to contact someone (not locally) and I was able to pick up the lamps at the warehouse for an extra $20. I can not take that chance again. So... beware!
I actually have been a fan of EBTH, no issues, just expensive deliveries. Customer service seemed good. The I received a piece of $#*! gold chain that they were selling that should have been marked as scrap. Paid over $200 for a chain that had so many kinks it could not lay flat. Numerous e-mail and over a week, they denied my claim and would not refund my money. Today was my last day with EBTH.
I purchased several items and their artwork is cheap looking and descriptions are so vague that you cannot complain. And, after purchasing a rug, and spending hundreds of dollars for the shipping cost, and after two weeks, I still haven't rec'd it. And, cancelling the order ensures I lose hundreds of dollars. They accept no responsibility.
Just wait until you see the incredible finds on this unique site! As it's name suggests, they've got Everything But The House - From the Lawnmower & BBQ in the backyard to the antique wedding dress, Steiff teddy bear & antique quilt in the attic & everything in between! Want a classic Rolls Royce, a Diamond Engagement Ring, a Babe Ruth signed Baseball? It's all here! You just never know what you will find! Prices are great and the auction process is easy and fair! No need to worry if you're a beginner because it's easy! I have not found another site that even comes close to this one!
BE CAREFUL. On my first attempt to bid on an item the bidding was less than honest. I placed a bid on an item only to find that the same bid was placed by another bidder at the same time. This happened several times on the same item. The only way that this could happen is if they have a rigged computer program that automatically slides a bid in over you. I will never visit this auction site again. It all makes sense since they get paid on commission and if the items don't get bid up then they loose money.
For serious collectors and shoppers this site is great. The items are as pictured and there is no assertion that an item is what it isn't. This is especially helpful when purchasing jewelry. I have purchased over 50 items from this site and have been pleased with 95% of them. The other 5% I misread the description and one was an honest error for which I was compensated. The shipping may be a bit sluggish but for the most part I pick my items up. Even when I do have the item shipped the item is definitely worth the wait! A couple of times I have felt the shipping was outrageous, so I called customer service and it was fixed. I have has very good experiences with this site and most assuredly recommend it!
I could not be more pleased with the process, staff, and results. From engagement with the sales person to cleaning out the house, and watching the auction, and resulting in cash in the bank for my mom and a house ready to market. The EBTH team was friendly, professional, and keenly competent at their jobs. The few hiccups along the way were handled expertly by their customer service. I would not hesitate to use them again, and highly recommend them to anyone in need of assistance with dissolution of an estate.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
