They automatically renew and if you don't catch it they will not cancel it. You can't delete your credit card without adding a new one. They have 0 sympathy for their customers. Also the samples are what get sent are equivalent to something sent in a magazine sample.
2016 I decided to try the wonderful but hit or miss world of subscription boxes. Birchbox wins my rave because the Customer Service was GREAT! Answered my questions quickly and you can tell it was not just a generic answer. I could tell a live person read it and she was so giddy I was like well you love your job. My first box was OK not a WOW but not a dud. I did not get one sample again Ms. Giddy CS Rep sprung into action by the end of the week it arrived. Also the lotion I told them I didn't like Almond scent Ms. Giddy CS sent me the scent of my choice. Sorry to be so long but the Customer Service was well worth the subscription price. So thumbs up I can't say anything bad about Birchbox. And my review is not coerced I was not bribed, or paid. Lol I'm just honest and I will always tell you the good and bad. I will however quit writing books and rambling.
I would give them no stars if I could. The other issue, I forgot to tell consumers and you will never get live person on the phone. It all computerized and just chatting. The company is rip off. Thank you, for telling me about other companies that are similar to Birchbox. I remember in the good old days. I order a beautiful makeup and it was good makeup and regular sizes all for Ten dollars. The good old days. Sad, now they give you bunch of crap and I would not put on a dog. They think by giving you a little organic samples that ok. Please, as the saying goes you get what you pay for.
I honestly love birchbox! Sure, every once in awhile I will get a sample that I will not use but overall I have found many many products that I love. I would not have found these products otherwise. $10 is a reasonable amount for these sample sizes. I have been a customer for nearly a year now and have never had any problems. You can't expect them to read your mind on what products you want, so I do understand that occasionally I may get a product I didn't necessarily like. Also, they will send you some trendy things (i. E.) blue eyeliner, which is fine by me because I am always up for trying new make up trends at least once. I highly recommend Birchbox for anyone that wants to try new beauty brands. I get so excited when my box arrives!
I should have learned 2 years ago when Birchbox was so difficult and did not allow me to cancel my subscription and continued to charge me. I bought a year for my daughter in May. Received 3 boxes and then they "upgraded" the site and have left customers hanging with no product, no way to log in, the customer service number is not in use. AVOID!
Received as a gift 12 months of Birchbox. Pretty sad when the box the samples arrive in is more exciting and useful than the samples I've received. Then too, every time I attempt to order something it's either a) not in the color I want or b) out of stock. Don't waste your money or your time on this rip off.
I received my first box today after waiting a few weeks. I was so excited! I opened the outer box and excitedly opened the little black box only to find 5 little sample size products of junk! Needless to say after searching to no avail for their phone number to immediately cancel. I finally got a chat employee and I am just saying lesson learned for me! $10 thrown away!
I don't like to do this because I work in customer service and understand how customers can be. However, this is an exception. I was gifted a year long birch box subscription for Christmas two years in a row. I was super excited to try samples and explore new products. The first subscription, they missed two of my boxes and had to extend my year plan. The second subscription, I claimed by gift, it never came in the mail the whole year. My friend wasted her money and customer service told me it had expired, it was a new subscription! DON'T waste your money or time. I loved getting samples but customer service is extremely frustrating.
Absolutely corrupt company. You cannot cancel the service and they keep changing your credit card even though you don't want the boxes anymore. No one answers the phone, you send emails which are unanswered. Steer clear or like me, you will be forced to change your credit card number!
Subscribed to Birchbox years ago, for myself and my two daughters. Frequently our boxes contain 90-95% of the same contents, despite our beauty profiles and the decades between ages. The straw that has led us to cancel our subscriptions though, is the direction the company has gone with their customer service. You can no longer call them, you must schedule a call back time - with a 3 hour window. If you go the offered "Live Chat" route, expect a minimum of 15 minute wait before the chat begins. You can also email them and they will return your email - with the caveat that usually they get back within 12 hours (one and a half typical work days). Customer service on the schedule of the company and not the customer is really not customer service at all. They also do not offer a "cruelty-free box" for those who wish to use only products not tested on animals. We are shopping for a replacement service.
This was a gift. The thought was wonderful but the process, products, service leaves everything to be desired! One item in the first box was actually useable. The second box arrived today with a small bottle of shampoo that was open and had leaked everywhere. Only one product in this box met my profile. Most of it is just samples that they got free from a manufacturer.
It's been three months. I still have yet to get something I can use more than twice. Most of the time, I do not know the companies they use.
Their idea of a sample this month (April) was a makeup wipe. Their whole idea is for you to use their samples and to purchase the large one at their site, but it takes more than two tries to purchase an expensive item that's not yet considered upscale.
First of all it took almost a month for my first box to come, when it did all but 1 sample was only good for 1 use. All samples very small. I read there would be at least 1 full size product and a free gift, there were none! I will give it one more try but not a happy customer at all big rip off!
What a scam this is. Received this as a gift. Not a thing I could or would use in the box. There is probably not $1.00's worth of products in the box. Not worth saving for this year's "Dirty Santa" grab bag. My friend's money would have been better spent with a donation to charity.
Shipping is also an issue. My package spent days in TN and days in IN.
By the time I was able to fill out my profile, there was only 1 box remaining of a 3 month subscription. Who knows, maybe the next box will contain purple mascara to go along with the gold eyeshadow. Halloween will be exciting this year. I will be made up as a 74 year old "lady of the night", thanks to Birchbox! Trick or Treat!
I only order one month to try.
The stuff they sent to me are all junk, including those face wash that contains tinny plastic ball to cause fish to die!
Then next month, the box comes again! But in the first order, there is no mention that you have to cancel the subscription! I refuse to open this box and want to send it back, even without refund. But they just refuse to send me the return address...
It started off great! Good samples, great customer service, even a real live person when you called their 800#. Not anymore. Samples slowly start to suck and get smaller and the customer service is all thru email and live chatting now. Don't waste your money!
I am so sad to see so many negative reviews, especially about customer service. I have nothing but excellent feedback about customer service. I reached out to them twice and have been helped immediately. They are so nice and quick to respond and both times have been issues/user error on my end. In one instance I forgot to put the promo code in for a free product and did not realize until I completed my order so I reached out to the discovery specialist and they sent me the free product right away. I also receive my BirchBox fairly consistently each month and have received great products. I believe part of their goal is to send you high end and new designer products that you may not have ever tried before. They introduce you to these products based off your personal profile. How could people be so upset about this?!
I purchased a 3 month subscription for my best friend's birthday (who has breast cancer) and she kindly emailed them asking if it was possible to receive skincare products instead of hair products because she is bald from cancer- and when they told her no, she did not receive a box. Instead, they sent her 2 mini mascaras and addressed her as "The Clever Lindsey". How rude can you be?! I regret purchasing this as a gift and want to share with everybody. The user experience on the site is also terrible. Why couldn't I just email her a code to redeem her box instead of pay a mass amount for shipping? So so so disappointed and sad my friend had to put up with this.
I am not sure who the people are that receive a single full size product, or in the cases I see from beauty bloggers, MANY?
Absolutely not worth the price. It was actually offensive to open my box each month and find half the amount of shampoo that I can tear out of a magazine ad.
Oh but then they throw in 4 additional samples of stuff that you don't want. They have also neglected a section to include allergies, so if you're allergic to a fruit or a flower/extract whatever, there is no way to be excluded from that type of product. Fantastic.
They scam you out of money, they don't delete your auto-renewal after they said they would. In fact at one point they told me to go online and cancel my subscription there, there wasn't an option at the time. I see they have since fixed this issue, probably too many people complaining. Their samples are so small, and some only half full. It's not worth the time or the money. Their customer service sucks! Do not order Birchbox. Unless you like headaches and regret.
Answer: I've bought a few. I've liked several more enough to buy a full size item but haven't gotten around to it yet because I have enough of a similar product on hand for now.
Answer: The issue I've had with them is that their customer service contact information was difficult to locate, so I get it. I had to contact them over Twitter to get it. The email form on the website doesn't do you much good. Try sending an email to info@birchbox.com for a better response. If all else fails, and you can't seem to get them to stop charging you, contact your credit card company, and let them handle it for you.
Answer: I work at a credit union. What I would recommend in this instance is canceling the card and then disputing unwanted charges. There is no way for the institution to cancel the subscription for you. However, as I said, we can issue you a new card number and help you dispute the charges that you did not authorize.
Answer: You get one point per dollar when shopping in the Birchbox shop. Additionally, reviewing the items you received in your Birchbox earns 10 points per review, and sharing your box on social media also yields you 10 points.
Birchbox has a rating of 1.7 stars from 261 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Birchbox most frequently mention customer service, month subscription and credit card. Birchbox ranks 96th among Subscription Shopping sites.
