Birchbox is such a cool idea! I love it for myself and gifts for friends. Their website doesn't do them justice. My friends actually sold me on the idea. You complete your profile (hair type, skin type, style, etc) and they send you samples every month for only $10! That includes shipping! You can choose what type of samples you want - makeup, skin care, fragrances, etc. Great gift idea to get a friend a year subscription.
Feeling pretty ripped off. These are free samples that anyone can get at any fine department store, beauty store or directly from the vendor. So basically, we pay for samples that Birch Box is getting free from these companies to promote their products. Nice scheme. The best part of this box was the in this actual box; It's cute. But not worth $10.
They make it impossible to cancel and are very dishonest, sending poor quality products or not even sending boxes at all. I've been trying to cancel my account for 3 months now with zero success. Dont do it!
Great concept and some great products. It's impossible to get any customer service for issues and it takes forever to get your gift shipped and delivered (definitely taking the pony express). The website is not very user friendly other than to place an order but if you're looking for other info... it takes a while to find. And once you subscribe the amount of unwanted marketing emails is excessive. Customer service should be #1 for this company to succeed. Going forward, find another source online.
If you do not unsubscribe exactly one year after signing up you will continue to be charged annually, as the automatic billing is automatically on. I subscribed for 2.5 years and wanted to stop, as I had samples of mascara and dry shampoo (their most popular box items) stacking up. I am not able to cancel until the 3 year mark. I'm mad!
When i subscribed over a year ago, this was a great service. But since then, the quality of the samples has dropped, damaged items come more often, customer service has gotten less helpful, etc. Sadly I don't think it's worth it anymore.
I am as hot as a potato. I order birch box a few years back, love it. Ordered again in march 2015 it's been great thus far. I order my husband a 3 month, that you had a time limited on to order so it will ship so he can get by father's day. Really father's day has come and gone and no box. Then, I pick what would be in my June box, I did not get nothing I pick. Plus I black american, can you see me with pink lipstick. I am really pissed off, call and email still no respond. Where is the customer service.
Pissed off;

I was hopeful when I signed up and excited to try new products. When it took more than twice the length of time promised to receive my first box, I was very disappointed. I had sent a couple of emails only to receive their automatic reply and no actual information. But the worst part was opening my very first box to find the purple shampoo had come open and ruined almost everything in the Box. The samples were thrown in the Box with no sort of paper or Bubble wrap to keep the items from jostling around. Again I emailed the company, received their automatic reply that they would get back to me shortly and waited, and received no reply. I submitted my cancellation to which they sent yet another automated reply asking why I cancelled. I referred them to my previous emails and never heard another word. There seems to be a lot of sample providers like this available, I suggest you use anyone other than Birchbox.
I deleted my account with ipsy after months of getting such disappointing small samples and i signed up for more..they never send me any. Birchbox is completely full sized samples of makeup and skin care its awesome
I subscribed to Birchbox for three years. Each month they would offer product choices. I would choose only to be told that my choice was out of stock. After having this happen repeatedly and not getting my choice -ever -I decided to ask what's up with this. I was basically scolded and told that the choices are for the important customers who buy full size products from Birchbox. Well then Birchbox - Why give me a choice if I am an unimportant customer who buys only a few full size products per year. Sometimes the samples are for shampoo and conditioner that can be purchased in a warehouse store. Clearly I was treated as a undervalued customer. So I'm done.
It doesn't matter if you've been a loyal customer for 3+ years. They will still take away the ONLY worthwhile rewards/ points system. It used to be that once a month, you could write reviews for the samples you received, and you would get 10 points for every review. Why on earth would customers write reviews now when they will receive NOTHING? If anything, Birchbox should be making more money now, so it just shows they are getting greedy. Just like every start up who turns out well. Unfortunately for them, they will start losing their valued customers, and will get more and more BAD reviews. Never forget the customer. That's their first HUGE mistake.
I gifted a birchbox set to a friend of mine (she is addicted to make up and Ipsy doesn't do gift sets) when she received the email informing her the box was coming in a few days, she was ecstatic. That was quickly short-lived. First the box was sent to the wrong address after that issued was fixed, the February box never came. She called Birchbox and they informed her that the time had passed and now they could only send a March box + an extra month. Well last time I checked it is March 30 and no box has come in as well. She has spoken to numerous employees and emailed dozen of times. I know its only been two months but I ordered the gift for her back in January. Worst customer service and with Ipsy offering far better products with a great little make up bags each month, Birchbox needs to step up or step aside. I want my money back.
I never heard of birchbox until a friend referred me. If all the samples I've received I have used all but maybe 3. The perfumes and lotions smell spa fresh. The face creams are dead on to my profile and the hair products they send are a good send to my thick wavy long hair. I honestly don't have anything negative to say. I her excited when I receive an email saying my box is shipped. Its a must try.
I received a gift subscription and I receive a box every month... but after six months I have never received a sample that I could use. And, the samples are teeny tiny. The whole thing is basically a rip off... definitely not worth $110/year. I'm horrified that the people who gifted the subscription paid so much. The samples should be free. Even if it were free, I'd opt out. Don't waste your money.
I ordered an add-on product to be shipped with my monthly box. My credit card was charged for the product and it never showed up. After multiple customer service requests, plus messaging the company on every social media platform I could find, I finally gave up on them and disputed the charge with my bank. My wonderful bank immediately reversed the charge for me and I have yet to receive any kind of resolution from Birchbox. Needless to say I cancelled my subscription. DO NOT trust this company with your credit card information.
My sister bought a year long subscription for me as a birthday gift and I was super excited. The boxes that come every month are really good looking boxed but the stuff inside them is crap! None of the samples is even remotely useful or worth trying.
I wish they spent some money on the samples and less money on designing the boxes.
I have been consistently disappointed with Birchbox, especially because I believed all of the hype about it being the gold standard of subscription beauty boxes. I have tried several subscriptions, and Birchbox is the worst by far. Inferior, useless products which are often repeated. Worst of all, if you neglect to cancel your auto renewal after the first month, there is no way to cancel it. The only thing they'll do is cancel your auto-renewal, but you're stuck paying for the remaining boxes, which in my case, is NINE MONTHS. There is no reason why they can't end the subscription and refund the remaining monthly payments. In addition, they give "points" to subscribers to be used on Birchbox products. However, if you don't use them, you LOSE them. Such a con job. This whole subscription is not worth the money. Save it and go buy the products you really want.
First, like others mentioned, if you forget to cancel it automatically renews and you cannot get out of another year. My main complaint is they offer choices each month, EXCEPT you can never get them. I received an email this morning at 10 that this month is available to choose and at 12:15 when I tried to select one they are all sold out so you get what you get. Very unhappy with the company.
I have had the subscription with Birchbox for about nine months and each passing month, the boxes arrive later and later. This month, for example, my subscription fee was taken from my account on the 1st, it is now the 17th and my box still has not arrived. I would expect this if I placed an order from China, but a company that is in the US and shipping to a US address should not take three weeks. I just cancelled my subscription and also the Birchbox Man I ordered for my boyfriend. If any BB higher ups are reading this, get your s*^t together!
P.s. I gave two stars because it is fun to get a box of beauty samples every month, I just recommend going somewhere else.
I was able to get my box for $8 a long basically and I'm so happy with it. I've been sent stuff that I would use and love the quality. I've found some stuff I would buy full sizes of, which is hard to do when your a mom and dont have time and money to waste on trying products you dont know you'll like. Some people complain about the sizes and samples but what do you expect for under ten bucks?! You get what you pay for. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I would love if they gave you at least 2 days to customize your box because I tend to miss the 24 hour time period.
Answer: I've bought a few. I've liked several more enough to buy a full size item but haven't gotten around to it yet because I have enough of a similar product on hand for now.
Answer: The issue I've had with them is that their customer service contact information was difficult to locate, so I get it. I had to contact them over Twitter to get it. The email form on the website doesn't do you much good. Try sending an email to info@birchbox.com for a better response. If all else fails, and you can't seem to get them to stop charging you, contact your credit card company, and let them handle it for you.
Answer: I work at a credit union. What I would recommend in this instance is canceling the card and then disputing unwanted charges. There is no way for the institution to cancel the subscription for you. However, as I said, we can issue you a new card number and help you dispute the charges that you did not authorize.
Answer: You get one point per dollar when shopping in the Birchbox shop. Additionally, reviewing the items you received in your Birchbox earns 10 points per review, and sharing your box on social media also yields you 10 points.
Birchbox has a rating of 1.7 stars from 261 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Birchbox most frequently mention customer service, month subscription and credit card. Birchbox ranks 96th among Subscription Shopping sites.
