“Excellent Quality Items were Excellent!”

Michelle C.
10/7/23

So I cannot speak as to selling my clothes through this company but when it comes to making a purchase I ordered all excellent items and that is exactly what I received! I needed a couple of Calvin Klein blazers and Ann Taylor work dresses and I made sure to order the excellent quality that says it comes brand new and that's exactly how the material came! Completely true to description. The only thing I will say is I did not read the description for a final sale item so I did not know the material before purchasing, but everything else was perfect! Ordered 6 items and keeping all 6 items! The packaging was also so cute and I ordered everything 8 days ago and it came pretty fast for standard shipping!

“They steal clothing”

Rachel B.
1/7/24

Sent multiple boxes using the shipping labels provided by ThredUp. They "lost" every single box, I had to fight for a very paltry repayment. They facilitate shipping but then claim that you're still responsible for your clothing until they buy it off you which is nonsense. There is no accountability. I wanted all clothing they rejected returned to me and instead they "lost" all of it. Can only imagine how much they steal if you opt to donate anything they "reject". Absolute trash.

The sire ( Thredup), has decent finds, but make sure that you want the items! No turning back! I had to GOOGLE how to cancel the order I wanted to cancel because they're lil chat machine didn't find my VERY obvious order number. So I found the answer and after being screened with several answers by the lil robotic chat machine. I was able to email with a request for cancellation, hopefully they will "get the request in time." I do not like that type of hurry up and send before they can cancel type of business. UPDATE: They did cancel my order the same day... process still horrible IMO...

Hi Richard, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us regarding men's clothing. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment that has been caused since we currently don't have those available on our website. At this moment, we accept women's and children's sizes and brands, and our boy's section currently goes up to size 20. We truly hope to add men's clothes to our service in the future.

I have spent thousands of dollars over the past year on thredup. I LOVE buying second-hand for a variety of reasons, and have always found exactly what I needed... and then some. In the course of my 50+ order history, I have grown very accustomed to everything being shipped within 48 hours and received ALWAYS within 10 days. However, they have recently implemented a new shipping change without any customer communication. I have a $200+ order that has still not been shipped and it was purchased 7 days ago. This is such poor customer service and customer communication. For a company as well-established as Thredup, I'm not sure how this change got approved without the proper departments weighing in on the impact it would have on their customer's shopping habits. I will really be thinking twice about ordering from now on.

Why are their used clothes so expensive? I can get new on sale for cheaper. They definitely don't pass the money on to the seller. Have you seen the tiny amount they give sellers? It is not worth sending in clothes. Use swap.com. The almost new isn't always accurate. I have received shoes with scuffs and another pair fell apart the first day!

Pros- This site can be good for designer finds. If you are in the market for a silk gown or something that you wouldn't normally be able to afford, Thredup is a godsend. I've found several good quality finds that I'll continue to cherish. I keep my eyes on a few particular designers and will sometimes find a real gem. My recent find was a Yoana Baraschi dress that would usually retail around $350 for $26.50, still brand new with tags.

Cons-
1. I've sent in about a half a dozen bags for "re-sale" and its always the same song and dance:
a. They only accept less than half of what you send, and you will need to pay to get whatever does not sell back.
B. Unless it is a designer label, you will not get much for a payout.
C. They take FOREVER. Returns also take some time.

2. They have a re-stocking fee when you need to return an item

3. Some of the cheaper items that I've purchased were in piss poor condition. For this reason I tend to stick with items that have "new with tags" listed or make sure it is available to be returned if needed.

4. It's not always that great of a deal. I was recently looking for basic tank tops and noticed that most of what is available on Thredup is around $8-$10, I went to the mall and found brand new (decent quality) ones for $5.

Handbags are also non- returnable items.

I think they play game s like changing the price as you put the item in your cart. OR all of sudden I will not be able to FIND a item on to see them relist it more expensive.

Recent event and THEY never reached out to me... ever.

I try to re bu becasien one item was not suppose to orde rit an they just completly igore me and than sometimes i will save clothing that like 7.99 only to ome back and they put a marked down of 38.00 dollars when it was alway 7.99... for a used skirt.\

I thought used clothing was suppose to help the earth but at this point i can get brand new for a few extrea dollars and know the item is going to be as such.

While most the stuff i have order has be fairly clean some of the condition just flat out lie.

Yeah ill stick to other consignment shops. I hope threadup will understand what customer service is one day.

Communication saves lives... so stay "straight up" thredup: roll eyes:

I love the idea of ThredUp, and I have received a few nice items. My main problem is finding the correct size. Most of the clothing items I've purchased in my size are way too small. Returns are easy but costly as a surcharge is assessed on each item you return. A couple of items I received had no sizing tags on them questioning how they even determined what size they were.

Tip for consumers:
Buy at least one size larger than you normally wear. Items are often sized incorrectly and returns come with a surcharge.

This is a thrift store. I believe they have an ap but I have only used the website. Each items condition is listed as either; showing wear, good or excellent. If an item is listed as excellent and arrives with pilling or defective zipper or ripped hem (I have received all) they do not charged the $2 per item restocking fee. I did pay to ship back. However they do not refund but give you a credit instead. But do not let that discourage you! I have received some lovely designer pieces including bags and boots. Know your measurements and check items measurements carefully. Know your brands and read the fabric content. Look very carefully at the photos before you buy. They do ship quickly and packing has improved. I try everything on immediately. Inspect for damage, then I wash on delicate or hand wash cycle. I had a cotton dress fall apart at the seams, I sent it back and received a credit. But you must send back in 14 days!

I both buy a4nd consign at Thread Up. I have found brand new with tags for clothing. I only buy excellen to new with tags quality. The variety is endless. Consigning is not great and I am lucky to get a dollar when I consign. I use it to clean out but never to make money. Their payouts are ludicrious. They also proicess very slowly and at a huge price. I have to pay to have them $15 to $23 per bundle.

Buying; A+

Consigning; F-

Tip for consumers:
I am spoiled by local and The Real Real. I get great commisson and their client service is amazing. Thread Up is a mixed bag but you will not make a lot of money. Thread Up is unusually picky but most of the time they accept everything I send. Make sure and Read Consignment 101 to see what brands they accept.

I liked Thred up but when you redeem the rewards that you have earned you break even. So if you have an item that is 20 % off with code and you also want to redeem rewards example - free shipping you can only use one or the other. Shipping is 10 dollars or you can use your code that will give you 10 dollars off. So you are not saving any money!

Tip for consumers:
I like their stuff but you can't redeem your points so you don't really save

Finding information about how account credits work and finding customer support contact methods are not user friendly. Once I found customer contact and sent a question about my sales not being credited to my account, it has been a week and still no reply.

I've ordered dozens of items the past several years from ThredUp. Many were excellent, a few were horrid. I always donate what I don't like because someone else will find it wonderful. I just now started the Goody Box (you know, personal shopper). Epic fail - I literally hated every single thing chosen so I won't be doing that again. I trust my own ideas much more than a strangers. Lesson learned. Also, some items the past year have been disappointing - wrong size, wrong quality, etc. Once covid is past, I'll go back to local shopping in thrift stores. But - all in all - it's a decent site. -merri

I give ThreadUp a solid meh.

I love the concept and have gotten some reasonable deals using their discount codes (Coach wristlets for $40). I feel like the expansive inventory and filter functions could be great at saving someone time if they had something specific in mind. I've never experienced an issue with discrepancy in descriptions or shipping either - everything has always arrived as stated, on time.

However, I feel like for the items being sold second-hand, the mark-ups can border on being unreasonable. I acknowledge Loft, Madewell, Anthro, JCrew, etc. are so much brand-new, but when they're out-of-season pieces and I find the same items at my local Goodwill for $2.99-$4.99/each, the argument doesn't hold.

In conclusion, my personal feelings are that if you're willing to spend a little time browsing racks, you could easily get 4/5 items at your local thrift store or garage sale over the $20 ThreadUP can be trying to charge for one. Bonus points, you'll save the Earth by eliminating all the shipping travel and packaging!

Plus, Goodwill, St Vincent de Paul, and my neighbors are all causes and people I want to support. I have no idea who is profiting at ThreadUp and regardless, it probably won't impact me or my community directly.

The descriptions are really inadequate, and they charge a $3.99 restocking fee if you need to return something so it's a problem when you rely on the lousy descriptions. I've purchased from them twice and have a few things I can't use because I relied on the descriptions but returning them will cost more money! Also, I sent them a clean-up bag that took them over 6 weeks to get feedback to me. Five items just disappeared and the other seven were listed for prices that totaled over $125.00 on the site but my return on that (if the items sell for the listed prices) will be just under $21.00! WHAT? I really like the idea of recycling clothes and not wasting but I don't think this site is the way to go. Great concept, not so great implementation. Maybe they just got too big and it's not manageable now. Too bad, it's a good idea going south. And I agree with the other comment about NO customer service available. HUGE problem.

I found thredup through Facebook last year. The first purse I bought the bag had black streaks on it although the picture didn't. I sent the bag back and was refunded because it should have been like new. Over Thanksgiving last year I was blocked from going on the site because I was saving bags. I explained to them that people are still able to buy what is in my cart and they have 1 hr. Save every month. They allowed me to go back on the site, and I bought a bag that I wanted. Sometime in July I was blocked from going on the site again without any explanation. My advice this site has some options if you want a new designer bag, but since a lot of bags are non refundable I would be careful about what I bought. Also, the site shouldn't kick you off for saving bags particularly if there are ways for other people to buy them.

I ordered 5 items and kept 2. All were on the small side. One was so small, though marked "medium" from the Old Navy, that I thought it might have been a children's size. It had clearly been shrunk which is one issue they say they don't accept. I am generally a size small at the Gap, Old Navy, etc. All the items were marked medium, none of them were a true medium size. I liked the swimsuit top and cashmere hoodie, they were on the small size but I kept them. They were good value for the price. I would suggest that ThredUp take a look at their sizing metrics. Otherwise, it is for juniors and adolescents or women who don't eat. Sadly, all the unacceptable items were "final" sale. Off to Goodwill.

So the good news is this is a real company and not a scam. The bad news is they do everything in their power to (legally) get your money and keep it. I bought some clothes for my kids. Surprise, they didn't fit. When I tried to return them, I found they charged $2 PER ITEM for a return. One of my items didn't even cost $2! You want a cash refund instead of store credit? That'll cost ya another $9. I spent $60 bucks there and wound up getting $35 back. Dare I try it again and hope for the right size this time? I probably won't. Just about every other online clothing store has free returns. With clothes, I would say that's a must. I'll either shop a different website or go to a brick and mortar store.

There are times I've received wonderful items from ThredUp, but a lot of the time I have to return due to quality issues. I've had items stained, faux leather peeling off a jacket, most of the time holes and tears. Funny, since their clean out boxes say it has to be in good condition to be accepted. Also, if you send items in you get pretty much nothing for your items. Pennies, sometimes.

For the most part I have always had positive experiences shopping Thredup, their representatives have always been kind and helpful, and as a thrift store junkie I am addicted to their website. When I have had problems with their merchandise they have always been responsive and professional.

I bought several items via a bundle a week or so ago. I noticed that Thredup had cancelled the item I was looking forward to the most. I contacted Thredup support to see why it was cancelled and was messaged "When an order is packed, our team completes one final inspection to ensure that you're receiving items that meet our strict quality standards. In this case, we found that item Cotton Candy Romper had a previously undetected flaw that did not meet our standards. To avoid any disappointment, we removed the item from your order and provided you with a refund on 4/25/22."

The item was white and the pictures were crystal clear (this is not always the case). The item was marked as having gentle wear, which I was fine with. I did not see any other issue, and the garment was perfectly visible front and back.

Supposedly Thredup donates their defective merchandise to charity. I do not understand why, if the item was so defective that they couldn't sell it, they would not send the item to me with the rest of my order. They obviously had it right there as they put my order together. I think someone snatched it for themself. I know other buyers who have had an item identified as defective by Thredup at the point of shipment, and in those cases they were credited their money but still sent the item. If I was sent the item and felt it was too defective to use, I would just donate it like Thredup claims they do anyhow. I do not expect freebees, but I really wanted this item and based on the scenario that they couldn't sell it anyhow, why wouldn't they pass it along? It'd be a totally different situation if it was a matter of the item being lost or sold on one of their other venues and no longer available.

Let me emphasize that I do not think that Thredup has a workforce of sketchy scam artists. I think their customer service does an excellent job, especially for the scale of business they conduct. You will find bad actors in every work force, and that is what I am guessing happened here based on the scenario. My hope is that this isn't a normal occurance.

I did share these thoughts with the Thredup representative I conversed with, but wanted to post a review in case this was happening to other people. I am hoping sharing my experience with other shoppers will help heal my mourning over the jumpsuit that could have been.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review!

Overall, I really like ThredUp, but have been so frustrated with their shipping lately. I love how environmentally conscious they are and they have a huge selection. However, their shipping times are just flat out ridiculous. For purchases, expect at least two weeks for delivery (which does not include the time it takes ThredUo to process the order before shipping), and sometimes even longer than that. For returns, expect up to a month. Perhaps they should renegotiate their deal with FedEx because given how quickly other companies are able to process and ship out products, ThredUp falls way short.

Basically, shop at least a season in advance because that's about how long it takes to deliver a package to you.

**Screenshot is of a package that I purchased on August 17th. The expected delivery date still shows as Sept. 9th. It is now Sept. 14th and there are literally no updates on where the package is after almost a MONTH after purchasing. Completely ridiculous.
