ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

Complete scam. Ended up with $9.00 after fees and thus was from a full bag of named brand clothes. Some still with tags on them. Also slow to get started-took 2 months to process. Donate or sell elsewhere.
Never again... Do not send items to ThredUP. Wish I read the reviews first. Received $9.96 as my so called Consignment payout. Was taxed a new $9.99 fee so I literally got nothing for the clothes. They sold each piece between $14.99 and $20.99 and I sent in a bag full of clothes! This is a huge scam!
I was going to send some stuff in -- but never mind! They barely give you anything for your clothes in the first place and now they are going to take $9.99 off the top? No thanks! Donate instead - you will get more off with a tax deduct then you will get from them. Sad to say - Mark my words this is the beginning of their end. If I feel this way then others will as well. If you don't have stuff coming in -- you don't have stuff to sell... Very, Very, Very move Thredup...
So much more for your money, good selection, fun to shop. When i open the box im amazed how neatly theyre packed, it shows they care.
I sent in a mixed bag of women's and kids clothes. Lots of new with tags, after being charged their $10 fee I received last then $10. I wish I would have donated it to greendrop and just used it for a tax write off.
I love buying from Thread up. I have made 3 purchases with multiple items in each purchase and I have never had to return anything. I have also sent clothes in to be sold but I have never earned anything From it.
I gave them months ago a lot of good stuff and they not even tell when they pay I wrote 4 times and after 4 months they answer, a full bag for 3.00 come on really?
This is the worse in the planet site to deal and sell, go better throw your stuff or give to a charity to dont stress with this website
I sent a bag a few years ago and thought I would try it again. Now I remember why I didn't do it sooner! It took more than 8 weeks to process a bag that was full of Dooney and Bourke, J. Jill, Michael Kors, and only got a pittance, even items that were new with tags. Do anything else with your unwanted items - sell through consignment, list on Poshmark, donate and take the tax deduction but run away from thredUP.
I've gotten lots of beautiful clothes and shoes from ThredUp. I purchased all of my maternity clothes from them and they're my go to place for special occasion dresses. You can't beat the prices -- I could never afford some of the brands I've bought if I got them in a store. I love knowing that I'm buying secondhand, which helps sustainability. And the clothes and shoes are so cute!
Don't do it! I am stunned! I just got my payout. $8.70 for approximately $500 worth of items sent to Thred-up! Some with the tags still attached. LL Bean, Coldwater Creek, Dressbarn, etc. All current styles. All in new or like new condition--including a pair of never-worn $150 sandals. Wish I'd read the reviews first. What a rip-off! I'm going back to e-bay with my gently worn or never worn stuff.
Worst experience ever! They take forever to process so your clothes are practically out of season by the time they get to them. When you follow up everyone has a different excuse. No way I'd send them anything else.
I used to love Thredup. I've sent in lots an lots of bags over the last couple of years and have always been satisfied with what I received for my items. Now they have become terrible with buying items. I've sent in a couple bags packed full of Ann Taylor, Talbots, Banana Republic, Lafayette 148, and J Jill some with the tags still on them and get only $3 or nothing after they deduct shipping. Really... I'd much rather donate them to someone who appreciates and needs the clothing. The acceptance rate of items has become ridiculous. I really wonder what happens with the items that "aren't accepted"... really wonder if the employees aren't some of the best dressed around for free. My last bags are waiting to be processed and then I'm done for good... probably won't buy from them either when you know how unfairly the sellers are being treated.
Long time buyer and seller here. Total lifetime payout of over $800 and I've only ever used it to get more clothes from them so I have a bit of experience with thredup. Let me just say that they used to be amazing. I averaged $100 on every bag of designer items I sent. HOWEVER, things have gone flying downhill and crashed in a burning heap. If you're just looking to shop than I say the site isn't so bad, I've had a few experiences of items arriving with holes or strange smells but the return policy is free and easy (for now) I will no longer be shopping with them because I wont support their conning of people. But as of Jan 2017 sending in items to sell is a WASTE of your time and items! Please hear me, I desperately regret sending my last two bags in. They took many of my designer items that they used to give me $100 for and instead gave me $4! I was shocked and disgusted when I added up how much they were going to make off my items was over $400. Screw. That. And just know that the minute you put your items in the mail, they are now property of Thredup and nothing you can do about them offering you pennies while they make hundreds. Such a disgusting way to run a business. I really encourage you to take your items to a local consignment where you will make abundantly more anyway (like 30-50% of every sale) and support small business owners while donating the rest and getting a tax write off. Don't even get me started on their customer service, they couldn't care less about your concerns and send you a generic "sorry you're disappointed" email over and over again.
I love receiving my boxes everything is so wonderfully packed, clean, mostly new items and it reminds me of shopping online at any other Department store even though this is a second chance outlet. Love Love ThredUp. Will keep searching and shopping
I've been using ThredUp for more than a year. I probably won't sell to them again - initially, it was free and would could get $15-$20 credit fairly easily. However, the new "deposit" thing is very discouraging, and not worth my time to try to stuff a bag with enough to payout. HOWEVER, they have been shipping much more quickly lately, and it's still an easy and fun app to use. I will continue to shop there, and donate my stuff to charity locally.
I ordered the most amazing deals my first order, it was delivered with in a week and a half. Everything was freaking perfect. So sent promo invites to my friends none of them have been able to utilize this opportunity for a few bucks back in our pockets, making it seem as if not a legitimate offer. Other than that it would be nice to get my second order in such a great timely fashion it's been almost 3weeks now for 1pair or jeans had service been consistently provided service I'd be apped to give a 5 star rating no problem or doubt about it!
When I stumbled upon ThredUp I was mostly looking for an (easier) way of getting rid of my old clothing in a responsible way. Who knew I was going to find something so wonderful! From the first polka-dot box I received in the mail to the thorough and careful email-updates I got about my Clear Out Bag, I continue to be impressed with your company's mission and work. As a recent design school graduate, I am happy to be supporting and working with a website/concept that is so beautifully executed, and so well-run! Can't say enough good things. I've been your biggest hype man since December.
I sent in my very large bag and 9 items were accepted. I got paid 8.55 for them. Three of them have sold already. I should have donated my clothes locally. I wasn't expecting to make lots on these items but didn't expect to get less than $1 per item. Not worth the effort
They LOST my return items!
I paid for the 'Return Assurance' - meaning they would send back any items that they chose not to keep. Well, after waiting a couple of months, I contacted them and was told, "oops". They lost 10 items! Then, they told me they gave me a crappy $65 for those lost items. Really? $6.50 per item? This is not acceptable!
I have bought for myself and my pregnant daughter. The service is great, and i love their mission statement of why they exist. I tell everyone about them!
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
