ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

The thredUP experience is exciting - I'm always interested to see what they've just gotten in, and which of my items they've accepted to sell. I still regularly give away clothes to my local charity shops, but I no longer sell at consignment stores - thredUp is fun and hassle-free, and clear about what they accept and why. It's also weirdly gratifying to see how quickly my clothes sell - thredUP taps into what buyers want, and clearly we all have great taste!;-)
I have placed three orders with ThredUp and have been very happy with the shopping experience: ThredUp has great values, an easy to browse website, good selection, and the items I've purchased have been in excellent condition - with the exception of just one blouse I returned (free returns) and received a full refund (I chose store credit). I will definitely keep shopping at ThredUp!
The new website design reduced the visual clutter, which makes shopping easier. Checkout process is streamlined.
I have owned consignment business's for 20 years. I love the whole idea of re-using anything from clothing to furniture. Thred-Up has made every step of the process so enjoyable and simple. I consign and buy easier then I would at a local consignment shop. Every chance I get, I share this information.
Thank you for the opportunity and your feedback!
I'm severely disabled & cannot shop my usual thrifties anymore, therefore I was thrilled to discover thredUP a few years back. Their prices were way above my local thrift & consignment, TJ Maxx & Marshall & even retail store's sales. But I realized they had to make money & I appreciated having a way to have a variety of items shipped to me to try on. For the past few years everything I wear has come from there. When complimented on them I would freely sing thredup's praises. I have never written a review but I have given tons of word of mouth free advertising! Now I feel I need to hunt all those people down & tell them to steer clear. Policies have changed without making it clear enough to the customers. I have always taken the free return route bc if you go in a store to try things on, what percentage of what you try on actually fits & looks good? A small one. Therefore I tend to keep a running credit with them. Now, how much is my store credit worth when everything I need to return is charged a $1.99 restock fee? This is a bit underhanded for those of us that returned items, opted for the store credit before the policy change & now we are stuck with our store credit greatly devalued. First, it was cutting return time from 30 to 14 days, then limiting one free return per month, but this? I'm done too. I miss the old thredup! If you bring it back let me know.
In comparison to other sites, the quality of the clothing, the prices and the user-friendliness of the site have not met my expectations.
I check my "personal shops" every day. This feature that allows me to save my favorite brands and sizes is really, really awesome. Why can't Nordstrom notify me when there is a new Tahari jacket in my size on their site? Well, ThredUp can and does. I have scored some very expensive clothes at 20% of the retail cost. (Note that the clothes that were cheaper to begin with are not as deeply discounted.). I've scored some good kids clothes and shoes too.
I don't love ThredUp as much for selling, but I credit it with motivating me to clean out my closet.
Shipping terms and returns are great.
I never have any problems with my orders from thredUP. The items are always in great condition amd the prices are amazing. I get a box every month and get to reap the benefits of having an always in style wardrobe! Buying clothes new and seeing those prices is almost painful now! Not to mention the feeling good about being more green!
The ThredUp site is so easy too use it might actually be a problem for my wallet or closet! I love the site!
Return process is very easy if something does not fit or meet your standards
The bag is just mailed to your house and it's huge so it fits so much and the shipping and everything is covered so you just have to take it to the post office! So awesome!
I very much enjoy using Thredup! I would give them a top star rating, except that I was disappointed earlier in the year when they changed their payout structure, reducing percentage paid on most items, although I get that they need to make money, too!. Otherwise, I have had a great experience using thredup! They respond to questions, and have a good turnaround time.
I have used Thredup to sell and purchase. It is always easy to sell my clothes, wish payout was better. I have found some cute items. I like the return policy- no fee if you opt for credit. Last purchase I kept 1 out of 3, loved my C and C California sweater. It is sometimes hard to see color with the pictures. It would be nice if they put color in description as well
Hi Vanessa, thank you for your feedback! Color is being added to the item descriptions VERY soon. Hope to see you again soon!
I have always been satisfied with thredUP from handling of my products that I send to products that i have ordered to customer service.
The prices were very affordable, especially for the quality. Faster delivery than expected
I love Thred Up & pretty much shop there exclusively. I had issues with a return but it was my fault, I did not read the fine print. The item I ordered will make a great gift.
You received my bag on 9/21. Currently it's 10/11 and still hasn't been processed. Very slow processing time. I have another bag full and waiting to be shipped but don't want to send until I see the outcome of this bag. Have friends waiting on my experience to see if they want to use Thredup. So far, not satisfied. Should not take this long to process my items and make money. Thus far, not satisfied and bad business to not be able to accommodate your customers' needs in a timely fashion!
Every pair of jeans, I ordered were low cut. I am 58 and wanted regular.
Hi Edna, thank you for your feedback. Sounds like we need to suggest offering more information on the cut of jeans. I will definitely pass this along! If you need assistance in returning the items, our support team is happy to help. support@thredup.com
I've always had quick and supportive response from ThredUp. I recommend them to my friends and use them regularly.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
