ThredUp's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the selling process and customer service. Many users report feeling misled about item valuations and processing times, leading to frustration over perceived exploitation and lack of transparency. While some customers appreciate the variety of products available for purchase, issues such as delays in shipping, inadequate communication, and poor handling of returns overshadow these positives. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, prompting many to recommend alternative selling methods and express reluctance to engage further with the company.

They only offer their worthwhile coupons to new members, giving nothing for loyalty. They also send out emails to loyal customers with coupon codes, just to say at check out that they cannot be used by anyone but new members. No where in their email does it say that. Sure, you could go through the trouble of creating a whole new account, but why should you have to? I have also received several items from them that were not in the condition I expected.
I want an answer to this please.
I bought some items about 3weeks online with ThredUp, PayPal gave a wrong shipping addres. Immediately I made two urgent calls and sent 2 email messages with my correct address.
They had enough time to change the address,
Next I got from them is, "we shipped before receiving your mail" this is 20 minutes from time of purchase.
To date, I have not receive the goods only mails of apology. My question is, where is the package not received at the wrong address and I did not receive too?
They offered me a refund but I refused, because that is the worst sale point carelessness.
They cannot do that with a refund and get away with their do not care attitude.
Let them handle professionally please. Selling cheap items does not allow taking people for granted.
Wow, what can I say. I went through the list of accepted items and only put my higher end stuff that would be accepted. I put a brand new 125.00 designer coat in the bag. Well six weeks after the get the bag, they give me a list of four items they are putting on consignment, and they are paying me, wait for it. 4.55, My items sold in days, and then the other items that they did not pay me for, I magically find two of them posted for sale. Wow, I have sent numerous emails, asked for a call, sent a complaint, they are looking into it. So three months later I have been paid nothing and I feel like this is a scam. I plan to write to the BBB and file a complaint. Save yourself time and money and go with a local consignment shop. ARG
I have been consigning my clothes and buying consignment for a LONG time. I was excited to try ThredUp because it seemed like they were easy to use and fair with their prices. I have to say I was sorely disappointed in both. I carefully put together my bag and kept track of what I sent in because it took over a month to hear anything. I sent in a lot of higher-end items including coach, lululemon, etc. assuming that they would be fair with pricing. Along with those items I sent some random old navy and gap items assuming a couple extra dollars could only help! They ONLY sold my old navy items and have kept my higher end clothes which I will never see again or make anything off of. I assume they are still going to attempt to sell them. Their directions for their bags are confusing, and I take credit for potentially missing the mark on wanting my clothes returned, but I after speaking with customer service for help I was basically told I was screwed.
Long story short, it is a COMPLETE waste of time, and you wont get what you deserve for your clothes. Its a scam, honestly. Take your business to a local shop!
I had a designer bag re-seamed and professionally cleaned to get zero $$ for it, along with 11 other items that totally met their criteria. They totally represent themselves in a local news segment and don't accept emails questioning their decisions
Next time I will just donate rather than have them make almost all the profit from MY stuff! I am so mad I didn't check out these reviews beforehand. They won't survive at this rate...
I absolutely LOVE shopping with them. I have been buying clothes from them since 2013 and have never had an issue. Recommend them to anyone looking for name brand quality clothing at great prices.
I agree with all other reviewers who say don't use Thredup to sell. I was expecting about $200 for excellent, new and designer clothing that I was estimating ONLY $5 per item and I got $42.51! No customer satisfaction when I inquired about the unexpected compensation. DO NOT USE TO SELL! Donate to charities that help clothe women for job interviews, etc.
As many others have written, don't use these guys for selling! I played by their rules and they accepted very few of my new with tags items. Wish I had given them to Dress for Success!
I bought some amazing clothes made from luxurious fabrics for a hugely discounted price. As advertised they were In fine condition. I am very small and many things are too small for me so I only purchased things that offered a return.
A few items were too large and it was so easy to return them. They processed very quickly.
Really great way to shop. I can sit at my computer or phone and type in brands that I love or scroll through new arrivals and find clothes at a fraction of the price. I love their huge selection and the thoroughness with which they inspect clothing, so there are no surprises when I receive my items. So glad a company like this exists!
I've used ThredUp for about three years, since I needed to remake my wardrobe after my daughter was born in 2013. It was awesome for that! Such a cheap way to restock the basics in my new size and lifestyle. Since then they've started to buy and sell maternity and kids clothes, which is great! Unfortunately, in that time span I've seen my per-bag earnings drop so drastically that I don't use them for selling anymore. My first couple bags made over $100, some even closer to $150; now, even designer items with tags and NIB (new in the box) sometimes don't get accepted, and the most I've made is $30, so I started to use Poshmark instead. I loved it while it lasted but after two poorly performing bags full of quality brands, many unworn, I can't risk sending my stuff there anymore. I actually started to get suspicious that they were reselling some of the stuff on the sly to be honest with you!
I received $31.83 for 26 items. Very disappointing considering most of the items had tags and one was a winter coat with tags. I will definitely use my local Kid to Kid consignment shop next time. I am very annoyed that I chose Thred Up over the local store. Lesson learned.
I read some of these reviews prior to submitting but thought I would give it a shot. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. Go to your local store!
I'm a first time shopper on thredUp, and I'm puzzled by the bust measurements for size small. Their measurements are stated as 12" to 21". Isn't the standard bust measurement for small sizes about 34" to 35"?
Fast service... products as presented! Will shop again.
Need to improve the photography and get better manikins. Style and overall appearance of the clothing is not optimized, resulting in my hesitancy sometimes to make a purchase. Text of details could be a bit more detailed, as well. I like the site and it's ease of use, but some"upgrades would likely result in more sales.
Thanks for asking for input and for a friendly shopping experience!
I just recieved my order and I'm very happy with everything I got. I will definitely encourage people to use this site...
Everything was in great shape! Package came quick and my items were boxed and tagged beautifully! One of the best experiences I've had online and I would for sure reccomebdnit to everyone! The price you pay for the items you get is unmatchable!
I am new to the site but have purchased several things over the past month (I think their should be a rewards program for people who can't stop shopping!). Each item I have purchased has looked even BETTER on than I thought it looked on the site. I'm so happy and have sent several family members shopping here!
Love getting deals on items I wouldn't get a regular stores. Especially being on a budget I am able to get the styles I want at a fraction of the cost. Im so glad I found this site.
Answer: Don't bother. I got 80 cents for a whole bag of good condition name brand clothes.
Answer: I've actually emailed their customer service to show them how many negative reviews there were on this site and they did not care at all. They just quoted their policies. I'm sure they will go bankrupt soon enough...
Answer: 1% but they trash the expensive stuff (or am not sure what they do with it) and sell the cheap stuff. So i sent 2 bags with over 20 items, and got total 25$. I had antik batik dress, anthropologie clothes, jcrew, christian lacroix, etc. and they trashed the expensive (new condition) brand and listed cheap things. I will not send them stuff again, it was very hurtful.
Answer: Because they essentially steal your clothes and then sell them for a profit. You get hardly any payout, but they gladly take all your clothes and sell them for a big mark up.
Answer: Of course buyers are satisfied. They are getting other peoples' brand-name, like-new clothes that has been stolen by ThredUp. Buying from ThredUp just supports their dishonest and shady business practice.
Answer: I almost always sell on eBay first. Then when I don't feel like hanging on to the clothes any more and just want my closet space back and they have been on eBay for months, I will send to thredUP. I don't even send in that high end of items and I will usually get $16 and up per bag. So to me, it's a last resort, but I usually can expect something even if it's a little. I LOVE thredUP for buying. Use their upfront calculator to see what items they take. They will say 50 cents to 1.00 per item so it is not hidden info. There is always the return option where you can get your entire bag back for $12.99 as well. Everyone who has nice stuff they'd want back should opt for this method always.
Answer: They sent me an email and put the money on my thred up account so I can buy something. I was do disgusted I gave up on the whole thing
Answer: Because I sent in 575.00 worth of clothes and recieved 8.00 in credit, half of them had tags still on them and were high priced items. When I asked for proof why they did not take them in they said they had stains on them. I asked for pics because they were brand new, they squirted water on them and took a pic. It takes a couple months to even get your credit and when you buy womens clothes, half the time I was sent stained or childrens sized clothes, TWICE is a much better company.
Answer: Honestly this company is not choosing to accept a lot of product that could easily be listed. I have sent bags and bags, including valuable pieces... cashmere sweaters, high end items of considerable retail cost and relatively recently produced. When questioned I am given the response that the items were not in as good a shape as they wanted them to be. That their buyers should be able to buy perfect product. My take on this is... if it's a 200 dollar cashmere sweater and the purchase price is under 10 dollars, a few pills on the fabric should be a non issue! Period. I question what is going on, frankly, as many do. Too much disappears with no explanation, many bags go into complete reject status. I genuinely am concerned that there is a story here and may become apparent after a while. Only time will tell.
Answer: Not worth it unless you have stuff priced over $40 and can get 40%. There percentages are ridiculous for lower priced clothes. You can order return assurance for about $12 but be prepared to get a bag back with your items stuffed in like garbage. They do not even take the time to fold things nicely even though you pay for this service.
